Reg Licence for DG Database

Hi,
I have a Standalone Enterprice Edition 10g database.
I like to go for DR for this database.
Do i need to buy a new licence for the DR database.
OR i can create a database but with the restriction of Opening that database only 10days in a year.
Thanks and Regards
Krishna

Standby – In this method, one or more copies of a primary database are
maintained on a standby server(s). The sites in a standby configuration may be
dispersed geographically and are connected by Oracle Net Services. As the
primary database is modified, log information generated by the changes are
sent to the standby database(s) and subsequently applied to the standby
database. If the primary database fails, a standby database can be activated to
be the new primary database. Solutions like Oracle Data Guard (included with
Oracle Database EE) or customer-generated scripts can be used. In this
environment, both the primary and the standby databases must be fully
licensed. Additionally, the same metric must be used to license both
databases. See illustration #5.

    Chris C:
    Data Guard, except Active Data Guard, is included at not additional cost with Enterprise Edition.
    Indeed Dataguard is included in the enterprise edition licence but you must licence both the primary and standby database(s) using the same licencing metric, this includes peopple who configure poor mans dataguard with standard edition and manual log shipping scripts, failover clustering (VCS, Oracle Failsafe etc) can be used without paying additional licence fees provided the database is not run on the failover node form more than 10 days per year.

  • Reg Licencing For APEX

    We have procured a Licence for Enterprice edition of Oracle10g.
    Do we need to procure separate licence for APEX.

    No, as long as the Oracle database is sufficiently licensed, APEX is free.

  • Licence for Standby database

    Hi All,
    Is it required a separate Licence to run a stand by for production database?.
    Our production server is bit critical. I am planning to built a stand by.
    Can you please give clear an idea of licencing for standby?.
    What is the difference between hot standby and cold standby?
    Thanks,
    DJ

    In general, you would need to license the standby database separately.
    You'll want to see the Software Investment Guide for more details. You may be able to avoid licensing the standby database if you are using OS clustering to provide the failover and the standby database isn't activated more than 10 days a year.

    i realy have probleme with reg.cgi
    for now i did www/cgi-bin/reg.cgi and in the xml i set my websiteurl = "http://88..../cgi-bin/"
    also how to complete reg.cgi for have it to talk with my db ?
    here the reg.cgi file.

    This file is in the public domain.
    IMPORTANT: This script is for illustrative purposes only. It does
    not have user authentication or other access control measures that
    a real production service would have.
    This script should be placed in the cgi-bin location according to
    your web server installation. The database is an SQLite3 database.
    Edit the location of the database in variable "dbFile".
    Create it with the following schema:
    .schema
    CREATE TABLE registrations (
        m_username VARCHAR COLLATE NOCASE,
        m_identity VARCHAR,
        m_updatetime DATETIME,
        PRIMARY KEY (m_username)
    CREATE INDEX registrations_updatetime ON registrations (m_updatetime ASC);
    # CHANGE THIS
    dbFile = '.../registrations.db'
    import cgi
    import sqlite3
    import xml.sax.saxutils
    query = cgi.parse()
    db = sqlite3.connect(dbFile)
    user = query.get('username', [None])[0]
    identity = query.get('identity', [None])[0]
    friends = query.get('friends', [])
    print 'Content-type: text/plain\n\n<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>\n<result>'
    if user:
        try:
            c = db.cursor()
            c.execute("insert or replace into registrations values (?, ?, datetime('now'))", (user, identity))
            print '\t<update>true</update>'
        except:
            print '\t<update>false</update>'
    for f in friends:
        print "\t<friend>\n\t\t<user>%s</user>" % (xml.sax.saxutils.escape(f), )
        c = db.cursor()
        c.execute("select m_username, m_identity from registrations where m_username = ? and m_updatetime > datetime('now', '-1 hour')", (f, ))
        for result in c.fetchall():
            eachIdent = result[1]
            if not eachIdent:
                eachIdent = ""
            print "\t\t<identity>%s</identity>" % (xml.sax.saxutils.escape(eachIdent), )
            if f != result[0]:
                print "\t\t<registered>%s</registered>" % (xml.sax.saxutils.escape(result[0]), )
        print "\t</friend>"

  • Licence for Development Oracle standard edition

    Hi,
    I am having named user licence for the standard edition Oracle database.
    Can I create multiple instances for the same machine and redstribute my licences internally?
    Can we run multiple versions of oracle on same machine under one license ?

    WARNING: None of this internet advice has any legal standing and you would be absolutely recommended to confirm with your local Oracle sales representative.
    Can I create multiple instances for the same machine and redstribute my licences internally?Yes, as long as you have enough named user licenses to cover all of the users who will be connecting to all those instances
    Can we run multiple versions of oracle on same machine under one license ?Yes, as long as you have enough named user licenses to cover all of the users who will be connecting to all those instances of different versions
    If you have a large number of users (say > 50) it may be cheaper to purchase a processor license for the server. You will need to check this with your local Oracle sales representative as processor licensing has its own licensing metrics e.g. O/S platform and CPU.
    Note that what my sales rep says is ok may not be what your sales rep says is ok, so get confirmation in writing for reference.

  • Licence for RMAN

    Hi,
    is RMAN licence included in DATABASE Licence or we should buy seperate licence for RMAN ?
    Thank you.

    I would be careful about making such a statement about "comes along with the database software so you don't need to buy an extra-cost license".
    My co-workers and I were talking about this the other day. There are a lot of "options" that come along when you do a default software installation. We define "options" as things you will need to pay for if you start using them.
    One that really gets my goat is the Automatic Workload Repository....
    Unless things have changed that I am unware of...unless you are Licensed for the Diagnositc Pack you are not to be using the AWR and its reports.
    So again...I would be careful about making such statements. :) People might go around thinking that they can use anything that is installed.

  • Reg setting up Logical database

    Hi,
    I need to set up logical file system for generating Idoc. can any one help me in setting up logical file system and how to config the idoc to that location.
    I appreciate your help.
    waiting to hear
    Thanks,
    Kisu

    Hi,
    I am not sure I understood your requirement. Your heading said "Reg setting up Logical database". But in your description you are asking about "logical file system". Then you say IDOC configuration. Can you please explain what you want to do?
    You can create logical file using transaction FILE. If you are talking about RFC Destinations for Idocs(not logical file system), then you are talking about SM59. If you are looking for configuring logical systems for ALE distribution or workflow configuration, then you do that in customizing transaction SPRO under "Basis Components>ALE>Logical Systems--> Define Logical Systems".
    Please let us know which one it is.

  • DR startegy for Large database

    Hi All,
    We have a 30TB database for which we need to design a backup strategy.( Oracle 11gR1 SE, 2 Node RAC with ASM)
    Client needs a DR site for the database and from the DR site we will be running tape backup.
    The main constraint we are facing here are size of DB which will grow till 50 TB in future and another is we are running in Oracle standard edition.
    Taking a full RMAN backup to a SAN box will take around 1 week for us for a DB size of 30TB.
    Options for us:
    1. Create a manual standby and apply archive logs( We cant use Dataguard as we are in SE edition)
    2. Storage level replication ( Using HP Continous access)
    3. Use thrid party tools such as Shareplex,Golden gate, DBVisit etc
    Which one will be the best option here with respect to cost and time or do we have any other option better than this.
    We cant upgrade to Oracle EE edition as of now since we need to meet the project deadline for Client. We are migrating legacy data to production now and this will be interrupted if we go for a upgrade.
    Thanks in advance.

    Modified the heading from Backup to DR

    Arun,
    Yes this limitation about BCT is problematic in SE but after all if everything was included in SE who would pay the EE licence :) ?.
    Only good thing if BCT is not in use is that RMAN checks the whole database for corruption even if the backup is an incremental one. There is no miraculous "full Oracle" solution if your backups are so slow but as you mentioned the manual standby with delayed periodic applications of the archives is possible. It's up to you to evaluate if if works in your case though : how many archive log files will you daily generate and how long will it take to apply them on your environment ?
    (notice about Golden Gate it's no more a third party tool : it's now an Oracle tool and it is clearly introduced as a recommended replacement for Streams)
    Best regards
    Phil

  • Do we need separete licence for AWR , ADDM in 10gR2

    Do we need separete licence for AWR , ADDM in 10gR2?

    AWR and ADDM come with the 10g database. When you connect to a Enterprise Manager Database Control or Grid Control web site for the first time you are presented with a page lists the "Packs" that are included and inform you that some premium functionality contained within this release of Enterprise Manager require a separate Oracle License.
    You can view the packs at a later date by clicking About Oracle Enterprise Manager link at the bottom of the home page and then clicking the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g License Information link.
    The Diagnostic Pack includes the following:
    Performance monitoring (database and host)
    ADDM
    AWR
    Event notifications
    Event/Metric history
    Blackouts.
    You have to have the Diagnostics Pack license even if you will only be accessing these features through their SQL or PL/SQL interfaces.

    Dear all,
    i am not sure that the question is relevant here or not, if not then please accept my sorry for that.
    we are going to move to 12c database and fusion middle-ware from 10g database.
    our head of department ask me to prepare a proposal for that so i ask and forward it to the top management.
    i am wonder what should i include in that proposal?

    If you have a proper Support contract, it includes Update support.  So upgrading an existing implementation doesn't require additional licences to be purchased.  You'd need additional licences if you are increasing your licence count (Processors or Users), adding database options (e.g. the 12c MultiTenant Database Option is a new feature that needs additional licencing) etc

  • Licence for 9i AS

    Hi,
    In the case I want to connect to Oracle 9i Application Server using SQLNet and powerbuilder.
    Is the Oracle 9i Application Server per processor licence include the Oracle
    client connection licence?
    Is the Named User licence include the licence for using SQLNet to connect to the
    9i AS?
    Jimmy

    You are mixing things up. SQLNet does not connect to 9iAS, it connects you to the Oracle database.
    9iAS is used to deploy applications on the web.
    I don't know anything about Powerbuilder, but my guess it that it can connect to an Oracle database through ODBC or JDBC. You don't need 9iAS for that.
