Reg: The portal Drive

Dear All,
How canto use the portal drive in portal knowledge management? What are the advantages? How we have to configure the portal Drive in KM?Is any limitations for portal drive?
Regards,
Praveen

Dear Praveen,
The SAP Portal Drive only adds a KM repository as a WebDav-folder to your Windows-Explorer so you can access it like your normal filesystem.
So you can copy and edit documents like you know it from the Windows world.
But please keep in mind that you only backup the file as it is, not any KM statistics, settings or user permissions of the file.
So if you have to rebuild the repository you can upload the files from your backup again, but you have to reassign all settings too.

  • Portal Drive Authentication Issue

    Hi Folks,
I have installed the Portal Drive on my Desktop. It works quite good except the authentication of my user-id.
This means, whenever I connect to a KM folder that can be accessed by "Everyone", everything works well. All functionalities are proper. If I cange a document, I can see that the user is "Guest".
But whenever I try to connect a KM Folder, in which the Access Rights are set only to my user, then the Authentication fails.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
    I am using Portal 7.0 SP16.
I setup Portal Drive in my local system. I am able to connect to a folder in km repository for a machine having only one portal instance.
But when I tried to connect to folder for a machine having two or more portal instance, it is not able to connect.
I tried all the machine with only one portal instance and it works fine but it doesn't connect for machine having more than one portal instance.
Any help would be great to resolve this issue. I am getting error like:
" server is currently experiencing a problem connecting users. Please try later."

  • Portal Drive Cache

    Hi All,
I have a question about the portal drive cache.
Portal Drive is a web dav client to connect to your portal content with the windows explorer.
My problem ist that Portal Drive stores cached data on the c:\-drive, in my environment
    it is C:\Documents and Settings\tfelp4\Local Settings\Application Data\Xythos\cache.
My requirement is to store the cached files on another drive like d:\, because the c-drive is already full and only
    used for storing pinstallation files.
    Thanks for helping me

    Any ideas so far??

  • Edit a mounted file on the portal

    Hello,
I have mounted a directory from our file server on our portal server. I implemented this directory in our KM file structure with a file system repository. Now in this directory is an Microsoft Excel file. The mount is read-write and I have write access to the document on the file server and in KM structure. But how can I edit this file in the portal? I can access this file with KM Document iView but I cannot change the content of this file and save it. Can anyone explain me that?
    Best Regards
    Philipp

    Hi,
the KM document iView is for displaying content. To be able to edit it, you need access to the conent menu of the file. Use the KM folder iView to access the folder where the xls is stored. From there, you can also edit files.
You can also use the portal drive to access the KM folder with WebDAV. This way, the KM folders and files will apear as explorer folders and files.

  • Script error while mounting Portal Drive

    Hello All!
There is a command in KM navigation iViews which can be used to mount the Portal Drive to the chosen folder. This command lets you download a file named .davmount and if you open it, Portal Drive connects automatically to this folder. Now the problem:
As I open this file, a standard windows message box opens and tells me:"Für die Dateierweiterung '.js' gibt es kein Skriptmodul". I don't know exactly what message would be in english, but it should be something like "There is no script module for file extention '.js'". Well, if I now install the Windows Scripting Host, everything works. Until I reboot my computer. After rebooting I get the same error. Now i can install WSH again and it works, butI don't want to install WSH everytime. Well, not rebooting the computer is also not the solution I'm looking for
It seems that this problem regards rather Windows/Mircosoft than KM, but perhaps is anybody out there, experiencing the same problem or having a suggestion to solve this issue.
Best regards and thanks for help,
    Christian

I found a solution. In the Windows Explorer, I changed in "Extras" -> "Ordneroptionen" (Folderoptions?) -> "Dateitypen" (Fileextensions?) -> DAVMOUNT the call for the Application from wscript "C:\Programme\SAP\PortalDrive\davmount.js" "%1" to wscript.exe //E:jscript "C:\Programme\SAP\PortalDrive\davmount.js" "%1" and now it works. I hope this can help everybody with similar Problems.

  • Portal Drive - Administration

    Hi,
we want to do some mapping of WebDAV Folders with the Portal Drive. In our environment the user should not do that by himself. The drives has to be mapped in the login scripts.
My problem is to hide the PortalDrive in the taskbar. The User can open the application and change settings and so on. Is there a possibility to hide the application or disable the settings in the portal drive application? And if yes, how to?
    Thanks and bye
    Florian

    Hi Tobias,
    thank you for the answer.
I tried that, but the microsoft redirecting service (used by the "net use" command) with windows xp (operation system of our clients) has some restrictions:
For example it can only use port 80 as far as i know, so we have to install a port forwarding tool like stunnel. I think this solution is not really practicable. The autentication mechanism is restricted, too.
    Best regards

    Hi Scott,
What version of Portal Drive are you attempting to install? Also, what desktop O/S are you using?
We are in the process of going to Windows 7 for our desktop, and we are having issues getting Portal Drive 4.4.6317.17 to work with it. I just submitted an OSS message on it.

    Hi All,
As per the guideline doc I have installed portal drive software and from that created a service using webdav url of the folder where I want to upload mass data.
It is also allowing me to upload the same.
After uploading when I am accessing that folder from EP, it is showing all the folders and its subfolders, but when I am accessing one .htm file from another from EP, it is giving me error as,

    Hi All,
Can anybody suggest me a way to display a document that is present on the network drive onto the Portal.
    Thanks,

    Hi Tom,
You can use WebDAV or CM Repository in FSDB mode and create a KM Document iview to display the same.
    Try this link

  • Using the Oracle Driver on the portal box

I wrote a server API application that uses the DataDirect oracle driver (as I didn't want to install the whole (*#$$*$ oracle client install on my portal box) but cleverly, it pops up a warning saying it should only be used for the portal. Is there some param I can pass to this driver to remove the popup/block?

Plumtree.dll contains the licensing infomation necessary to use the Datadirect driver and when plumtree connects to the db...this licensing information is passed through. You will only be able to create applications that use Datadirect through plumtree.dll.
Are you accessing the server API through plumtree.dll directly? How was this installed on the machine?------- Jesse Wolfe wrote on 5/28/04 2:01 AM -------

  • Reg: The download from portal

    Hi All,
Can any one guide me from where to download the patch upgrades and set up files from the portal. I have browsed through the service portal but I am not sure so as to where from to download or find the available downloads. I want to have the set up file of 2007B PL00, the upgrade file to upgrade 2005B PL42 to 2007B PL00. How do we get te updates that a patch has been released? Is there any shortcut way or it has to be browsed and find every time?
    Regards,
    Raj

I am sure you have a S User.
THe "then a small window opens (blank) and then dissapears." is a window that will copy the download link to your SAP Download manager basket.
If you download and install SAP DM, then you will have to log in using the same S user. If will remember everything that you wanted to download the portal and will download it for you.
The direct download option on the portal sometimes works and sometimes does not. I am not sure ast to why, but I fell in a similar situation like yours and am using SAP DM quite happily till today

  • Portal Drive Single Sign On and Kerberos Authentication

    Hi,
We are using NW2004s SP10 Portal and we have successfully configured Kerberos authentication with Windows Active Directory 2003. To access the KM Content in windows explorer format, we are using Portal Drive but Portal Drive still asks for authentication i.e. SSO is not working for Portal Drive. I have understood from the forums and sap help site that SSO from portal drive will work only for NTLM authentication and client certificates. Can you please help regarding below questions.
    1. Can Kerberos and NTLM authentication be configured together.
    2. If yes, what are the steps to configure NTLM authentication for NW2004s SAP Portal and Active Directory 2003.
    3. Any other approach to make Portal Drive SSO work.
    Helpful answers will be rewarded.
    Regards,
    Chandra

    Hi Gregor,
    I did two things:
first i made a change in the portalapp.xml in the PAR file "com.sap.km.cm.par". In the section authentication scheme for "docs" I changed the authentication scheme to "default" to make sure that documents are opened using the default authentication scheme (SPNego) instead of basic authentication
second, I used the SPNego wizard to configure SPNego. So I didn't adjust anything in the Visual Admin or the authentication template apart from adding the Template to the Ticket policy configuration.
Again, this only worked after installing the latest vesion.
    Hope this helps

    Hello Vijay,
If you are interested in a 3rd party application with all the stats you need and more, check out Click Stream by Sweetlets. Easy to download and user friendly with many key reports quickly accessible. It also answers some of the questions you had above a whole lot simpler than anything else out there or any other route you had in mind.
In the very near future Click Stream will also have iView recording to monitor iViews, telling which iViews have been clicked, etc. Also, the one you were looking for, "who the last login into the portal", will soon be added.
Click Stream uses the Usermanagement (UME) API to get more information about the user, groups, roles, LDAP attributes etc. and offers you the ability to use such information for filtering within any report.
Click Stream also uses the PCD API to get information about the pages your users are visiting.
Here are some reviews on the SAP EcoHub from people who have used it: http://ecohub.sdn.sap.com/irj/ecohub/solutions/clickstream
Please just let me know if you have any question or if you are open to test drive Click Stream. We will certainly help as best as we can.
    Good luck.
