Reg: unable to extend tablespace error.
Hi,
On the database we work we got Unable to extend tablespace error. Suddenly in one night data was flooded into the tablespace.We have not run any precedure or On line reorganisation on that TS.
Is there any way that we can know what acivity had on that Tablespace during that night.We dont have audit option set in the database.
Thanks,
Venkat.
It really depends on what, exactly, you're looking for and what, exactly, happened.
If you have the archived log files from the night in question, that might tell you what statement generated a lot of redo. You'd miss certain unlogged operations, though, and that doesn't give you any information about what process caused the flood. If you've taken the basic precaution of getting base-line table sizes, querying DBA_SEGMENTS or DBA_EXTENTS to get the current size ought to show which tables have grown and is a lot less work than configuring Log Miner.
Log Miner would also tend to miss situations where a table allocated a new, rather large, extent.
Log Miner would tend to miss situations where an old manually allocated tablespace became fragmented

Request of one report fails with error: unable to extend tablespace
Hi All,
When I submit one request of report, the request end up with error:
unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace XXXX
The request costs too much tablespace in short time, but the temp is about 20 G large.
The sever have been add storage recently, but I don't know whether it is related to the performance issue, because the request had not such issue.
How do I deal with it ?
Thanks,

Unable to extend tablespace while EhP4 upgrade
Hi Gurus,
We are doing EhP4 upgrade from EhP ready SR1. Our database version is DB6 9.7.2. We are using EhPI version 37.
In the chack phase the installer suggests to increase some tablspace size. But the tablespaces are in "Auto Storage Mode". We are unable to extend or add a container to it.
Any suggestions or workarounds for this issue?
Advance thanks.
Kind Regards,
IndrakumarThanks for all the replies.
SAP replied with the following workaround and it worked for us.
i)Save all files <upgdir>/bin/DBF.SPC and their content (for example by copying each of these files to DBF.SPC.SAV)
ii) Empty all files <upgdir>/bin/DBF*.SPC; that is do not delete/remove these files but delete all content, so that these files are completely empty!
iii) Make sure that you are having sufficient space in the file systems.
iv) Restart the upgrade/SPACECHK. with empty files there are no space requirements and thus the SPACECHK should finish successfully.
Kind Regards,

If you have enough space on the Disk for the first Datafile to extend, it's a rather strange behaviour.
In this case, I suggest you to open a SR on My Oracle Support.
On Solaris, a similar bug was reported (in 9.2.0.8 release):
Bug 7196775: ERROR ORA-01653 OCCURS WHILE INSERTING RECORDS IN TABLE WITH DATAFILE AUTOEXTENDElse, you may try to extend manually the Datafiles so as to get enough free space inside the Tablespace SYSTEM.
Hope this help.

Unable to extend segment by 8 in undo tablespace 'UNDOTBS1' error ?
I have added a new column to one of my tables,and I am migrating data to fill all the existing rows for this newly added column; but while executing the migration script I get the following error -
Error:ORA-30036: unable to extend segment by 8 in undo tablespace 'UNDOTBS1'
Of whatever i searched on the net this error points to lack of space for the undo segment of oracle. is it possible to extend this space dynamically?
Any pointers to help me resolve the problem would be appreciated.
Thanks.<snip>
How have you written your migration scripts? Does it include commits at suitable points in the script, or is it one large commit at the end?
</snip>
Actually, that is the case too. I have a one large commit at the end. To avoid this and introduce commits at some decent regular intervals, i will have to modify my script. I am trying to see if there is any other configuration solution possible :)
Thanks -

Trying to create a fact table,error:unable to extend temp segement

I am trying to create a fact table from the dimension tables and its giving this error
what is the mistake kindly help.
Also when creating the fact table do all the columns need to be foreign keys compulsorily.

Edited by: Trooper on Jan 10, 2009 6:37 AMWell basically what your saying is absolutely right
I realized what i am doing right now is stupendous blunder.
Basically my aim is there are 5 dimensional tables that are created
Student->s_id primary key,upn(unique pupil no),name
Grade->g_id primary key,grade,exam_level,values
Subject->sb_id primary key,subjectid,subname
School->sc_id primary key,schoolno,school_name
year->y_id primary key,year(like 2008)
s_id,g_id,sb_id,sc_id,y_id are sequences
select * from student;
S_ID UPN FNAME COMMONNAME GENDER DOB
==============================
9062 1027 MELISSA ANNE f 13-OCT-81
9000 rows selected
select * from grade;
G_ID GRADE E_LEVEL VALUE
73 A a 120
74 B a 100
75 C a 80
76 D a 60
77 E a 40
78 F a 20
79 U a 0
80 X a 0
18 rows selectedThese are basically the dimensional views
Now according to the specification given, need to create a fact table as facts_table which contains all the dim tables primary keys as foreign keys in it.
The problem is when i say,I am going to consider a smaller example than the actual no of dimension tables 5 lets say there are 2 dim tables student,grade with s_id,g_id as p key.
create materialized view facts_table(s_id,g_id)
as
select s.s_id,g.g_id
from (select distinct s_id from student)s
, (select distinct g_id from grade)gThis results in massive duplication as there is no join between the two tables.But basically there are no common things between the two tables to join,how to solve it?
Consider it when i do it for 5 tables the amount of duplication being involved, thats why there is not enough tablespace.
I was hoping if there is no other way then create a fact table with just one column initially
create materialized view facts_table(s_id)
as
select s_id
from student;then
alter materialized view facts_table add column g_id number;Then populate this g_id column by fetching all the g_id values from the grade table using some sort of loop even though we should not use pl/sql i dont know if this works?
Any suggestions.

And this is the situation of every device belonging to DATA diskgroup:
Path | disk_number | group_name | group_number | header_status| free_mb | os_mb | total_mb
/dev/asm212 13 DATA 2 MEMBER 56627 208500 208500
/dev/asm9 7 DATA 2 MEMBER 12607 48127 48127
/dev/asm6 4 DATA 2 MEMBER 12600 48127 48127
/dev/asm8 6 DATA 2 MEMBER 12595 48127 48127

/dev/asm10 8 DATA 2 MEMBER 12598 48127 48127
/dev/asm2 0 DATA 2 MEMBER 12599 48127 48127
Why table cannot extend??
And more:
if I try to add a datafile to USER tablespace, I got:
ORA-17502: ksfdcre:4 Failed to create file +DATA
ORA-15041: diskgroup space exhausted
01119. 00000 - "error in creating database file '%s'"
Any suggestion??
thanks in advance,
SamuelOK, but what does FREE_MB mean?
Is it the unallocated space?
Is it possible that this disk:
path | disk_number | group_name | group_number | header_status| free_mb | os_mb | total_mb
/dev/asm12 10 DATA 2 MEMBER 0 5115 5115
is causing the error?
Does it make sense to try to remove it from the diskgroup? I should have more than enough space on other disks of the DATA diskgroup.
