Regarding APO

Hi All,
I would like to know the necessity of using APO?. In fact we are doing good planning through MRP,Capacity planning etc in SAP ECC,then what is the necessity to have APO?. What are the features that are not in SAP R/3 or ECC and that is available in APO?.
Can anyone provide me some inputs.
Thanks in advance.

  • Planning with APO

    Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding APO and BI Integrated Planning. If we are using APO DP is it a good option to implement BI Integrated planning as well. because both of them have the same planning and forecasting strategies. Is BI Integrated Planning and alternate option for APO DP or can it be used along with APO DP for planning on certain reports. Thank you very much for your time.

    Hi Akshay27,
I have personnally never use the BI integrating planning, but based on my knowledges; hopefully somebody with more experience in this area will be able to complete this answer!
Integrated planning indeed allow to realised more and more planning using BW infrastructure. The very big advantages is the user friendliness.
However this does not exclude the use a DP. Both can be use together, for example DP for your power user and integrated planning for collaboration. DP will be the "master system" enabling you to maintain CVC, run complex statistical forecast, validate foecast.
(I have seen a simialr implementation a couple of year ago using BPS).
Note for exaple that the new functionality "customer forecast management" in SCM 7 use both DP and IP.
You mentioned the possibilty to perform statistical calculation in IP... I haven't actually seen that, but I am not convince you will have the capacity of DP (seasonal planning, promotion, like profile... MLR, POS forecast...), If you know more, please let me know.
I hope this help a bit; now if somebody could provide more information about IP, that would be great!
    Thanks and Regards

  • How to upload flat file in planning book

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to upload flat file(e.g xls, csv) in planning book against key figures(e.g forecast) in some characteristics level(e.g brand, sku etc)?
Is it possible to have screen shots or path to follow?

    Hi
Yes you can upload the excel files or flat files in APO planning area. APO planning area is made of characteristics and key figures. All the characteristic information is mainly available in Infoobject. You can upload these excel files in infobojects which will than reflect in planning book. Please find the detail information regarding APO BW building blocks.

  • CIF postprocessing in Make to Order environment.

    Hi Experts,
We have Make to order environment and i was wondering if we can use cif post processing in such environment. Please advice.
I would think post processing can be activated for all transactional data irrespective of the scenario, one of my colleague was opposing the fact and I feel he might have a point there but not very sure. we have tons of errors and we would like to sort them out without causing problem in the system...
Please suggest. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you for your time.
    Regards,
    APO Challenger.

    Hi,
In SAP, this functionality CIF Post processing is mainly used to avoid stoppage of business transactions. Whenever, you see major queues or faulty queues in the inbound or outbound areas, you can save those queues in a particular area so that other queues can be activated and made to pass through so that the business activities can be carried out.
During this process, only the faulty queues can be saved and actions like corrective and preventive actions can be taken for those queues by correcting master data or transactional data at our own convenience via CIF Post Processing.
There is not a sense of urgency to immediately delete the queues with error handling turned on since the creation of post processing records in APO avoids the creation of extended queue blocks in the CIF.  Efforts can be focused on solving the issues correctly rather than quickly.
I agree with Venkat, First you reduce the number of errors then implement this functionality.

  • Maintain master mata for Info objects e.g. 9AMATNR

    Hi All,
I am using SCM 5.0 Version.
When i right Click on Info Objects 9AMATNR & go in to maintain masterdata field,I can see only product code not any description of that product Code.Actually I would like to see both.If i am switching to change mode then only one product code will appear & i have to manually enter the description. But this Process is quite lengthy & I have more that 1000 product.
So can any suggest how to maintain master data with description,so that i can see the description also in reports
       So kindly suggest solution.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    APO Team

    Hi,
Assuming that you have connected to an R/3 system. To maintain the master data for an infoobject, select that infoobject and go to change mode then select master data/texts tab and assign an infoarea to the infoobject. Activate and refresh it.
Once you refresh the entire tree, infoobject starts appearing in the infoprovider. Now create transformation for the infoobject(texts) with datasource "0MATERIAL_TEXT " (i'm assuming that the datasource is active). Create and execute DTP and infopackage.
Material description starts appearing in the maintain master data.
If you want to see the descriptions in the dataview then the above steps are not required, just CIF all the materials, it starts appearing in the dataviews. If you are generating some reports from APO system then it will be helpful.
    Hope this helps.

  • Regarding required ABAP knowledge to understand the APO-BW developments

    Hi All,
Could you pls let me know what kind of ABAP skills that an APO consultant must have to understand the development code in the  routines and user exits.
    Best regards,
    Ramya

    Hi Ramya,
For ABAP consultant to work in APO, mainly you need to learn and
    focus on working with structures.
Other areas for focus will be Badi's, user exits, function modules,
routines, enhancements which are more or less similar to other modules

  • Regarding Integration Model to CIF from ECC to APO

    Hi ,
Please assist me in the following issues:
What will the impact if any material is ciffed twice or multiple times from ECC to APO through IM ...will it generate inconsistency ? if so, how we can avoid this ?
While I'm ciffing the material from ECC to APO through IM, the ' Find Master Data Object ' is showing certain number say 'X' but when I'm running CTM for it the explosion of BOM  of Master Data is showing less number of material than 'X'...in that case what might be the possible issue ?
While generating IM , can I club Sale Order, Sale Order Stock, Planned Order, Prodn order under same variant ? or ill it generate inconsistency ?
    TIA
    -Michael

    Hi Michael,
    1. It is not a problem. Is is quite common to CIF materials twice a days or even more. It shoul not generate inconsistencies.
    2. You could have more materials than materials bith BOM. In other words, maybe not all your materials have a BOM.
    3. Its recommended to have a separate integration model for your object.

  • Help regarding Scheduling date calculation in APO using Condition Technique

    Hi Team,
The below is the issue I am facing. Could you please help me regarding this?
For a material MAT1, a stock of 15 is available today i.e. on 15/05/2014 and a Planned Order of 35 is available on 01/08/2014.  I have created a Sales Order of 50 today i.e. 15/05/2014 for this material with a RDD of 20/05/2014. I have maintained the LEAD and the TRAN times as 5 days and 10 days respectively. These are maintained for a particular Route. LOAD, PICK, and UNLD are 0. In the Location master, I haven't defined any Calendar. So, it has to consider all days as working without any holidays.
For the given RDD of 20/05/2014, system performs the backward scheduling and arrives at a past date of 05/05/2014(20/05/2014-5D-10D) for the MBDAT. Since this date is in the past, the system should set the MBDAT to the current system date i.e. 15/05/2014. Since PICK is 0, the Loading Date also should be 15/05/2014. Since LOAD is 0, the Goods Issue Date also should be 15/05/2014.  Since LEAD and TRAN are 5D and 10D, the Delivery Date should be 15/05/2014+5D+10D=30/05/2014.
But, in the Sales Order, I am getting a different date. For MBDAT, Loading Date, and Goods Issue date, the dates are 05/07/2014. Transportation Planning Date is 25/06/2014 and Delivery Date is 01.08.2014. During the GATP check, I am getting only a partial confirmation of 15 and the planned order of 35 is not being considered.
The material is APO relevant and the Scheduling using Condition Technique is being used.
Kindly help me regarding this and let me know if I am missing anything here.
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Srikanth.

    Hello Srikanth,
Let us differentiate the problem into two pieces.
    1) Incorrect Scheduling
    2) Future receipts not being considered.
For the second problem, future reciepts not being considered, which is on 01/08/2014, please check if your system is allowing you to go further and do the confirmation. How long is your Checking Horizon ? Is your checking horizon configured enough to go ahead and pick this reciept element to give the confirmation by creating a second schedule line ?
For the first problem, LEAD to the best of my knowledge is transportation planning time which means, the MBDAT would be shifted to the extent of the LEAD time to be able to manage the truck though the stock is available today. However, the dates mentioned by you seems to be completely different. Hence, I suggest you to take the ATP check on this line item, go to Delivery proposal screen and click on the graphical representation of the Scheduling results. There you should be able to understand how the calculation is actually happening. Perhaps, there are some calendars that are being used which you'd not be knowing ? May be the condition record has different times maintained in the condition table ? Check the condition table that the system is picking up ? May be you have maintained the route and transportation scheduling in "X" condition table, however system was able to identify a different detailed level table which satisfied the condition and due to which system got the scheduling calculated accordingly ?
May be it is a good idea to investigate this way. Hope this helps.

  • REGARDING ECC STOCK TO BE CONSIDER IN APO

    Dear Friends,
I have a query on below issue:
We have implemented the APO in our client & planning happening through APO only.  If we have stock at QUALITY INSPECTION STOCK in ECC, APO should consider this stock also while doing the planning.
Lets say example: I have stock of 50 in unrestricted & 100 in Quality inspection stock in ECC.  While planning APO should consider the stock as 150 and should calculate the proposal quantity for remaining amount.
Plz suggest how can i achieve this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Arvind S

    Hi Aravind,
I would agree with Debashis on this, you can control this from demand tab in product master in APO.
What you need to do is to CIF storage location stock to APO and have this "Stock in quality inspection" ticked, which is part of standard setting.
As per my knowledge this is applicable for CTM and PPDS only, not sure about Optimizer and Heuristics.
For Optimizer and Heuristics to consider QI stock, i think below thread can help you there.
How to consider 'Stock in quality inspection' in SNP

  • Transaction CFC9 in ECC - regarding CIF change transfers to APO

I am using APO 5.1 connected to an ECC 5 system.
I am using ECC transaction CFC9 for CIF settings.
How do the 'change transfer' settings (online/periodic) in transaction CFC9 actually relate to the use of the online change transfer via CFC5 and the use of the periodic change transfer via CFP1. Is there a dependency here?
Thanks for any advice on this...

    Hi,
CFC9 is where you specify what way you want to have the data transfer for master data from R/3 to APO - online, periodic or no transfer.
Based on what you maintained in CFC9, you need to either maintain configuration relevant for ALE (periodic transfer) or BTE (online transfer).
So, if you selected periodic transfer, you should use periodic change transfer using CFP1. Alternatively, you could schedule a periodic job corresponding to CFP1 to send change pointers from R/3 to APO. You should also select "acticvate ALE change pointer generally".
Not sure what you meant by CFC5. If you want to send master data changes online (using BTE), you should have activated "online transfer using BTE".

  • Urgent !!!!   regarding 9AVERSION  (APO DP)

    Hi Gurus,
I have one question .I just wanted to know ,when we get the sales history data from R3 to an history cube for APODP process, How do we need to add 9AVERSION char in the cube ? Do we need to create as a flate file and add that one inHistory cube or any otherway
I will be very thankfull if you please let me know.
    Thanks a Lot
    Regards,
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
The 9AVERSION characteristic values for history can be any value you want (any value that is meaningful to the business). For example, you can set it to "000" or "HISTORYV1". The value doesn't need to come from R/3 or any data source for that mater. If your history doesn't have versions then you can just set it to a constant value in the transfer rules or update rules (as pointed out by APOForum's post above).
Here is an example rule that you can implement:
    Update rule for InfoCube ZHISTORY
ZHISTORYKF in cube = ZSALESKF in the flat file/datasource
    9AVERSION in cube = "000"
In the variant for program /SAPAPO/RTSINPUT_CUBE (transaction /sapapo/tscube), you can specify ZHISTORY as your cube and "000" as your planning version.
Hope this helps to answer your question.
Additional Info (in case you don't have a BW guy with you now):
To add 9AVERSION characteristic into your cube, you can call transaction RSA1->Modelling Tab->InfoCube->Select your cube->Change. Then simply add 9AVERSION in the list of characteristics and specify its dimension.

  • Clarification on details regarding getting data from APO into BW

    Hi Friends,
I need some clarification in terms of getting data from APO into BW for reporting:
I observed that SAP has provided standard data flows for PPDS module, where as for the Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning SAP has just provided some standard InfoCubes ex: 0APO_C07, 0APO_C10, 0APO_C11, 0APO_C12.
Which makes me believe that for Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning we need to generate DataSources from the Planning books in DP & SNP and build our own custom data flows. In that case what is the use of above mentioned InfoCubes provided by SAP?
Also in my current project the client has built a custom DataSource on top of a Planning Book in DP and created custom data flow in BW for reporting and also created a Back up cube in APO.
My question on this is, what is the use of this Back up cube in APO, what is the need to maintain two same cubes in two different systems?
My next question is, I have installed complete data flow for 0APO_C02 (Orders Data) in BW and loaded data. In SAP documentation it says when we try to load data for a particular date range using this InfoSource (0APO_PPDS_ORDER_01), it directly loads data from the live cache.
Is there a way to know if the data is coming from Live Cache or from APO server, can we get data from live cache for 9A*** Datasources also, which we create on planning books in DP and SNP?
Any comments and Info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Sunitha, thanks for your inputs. So does that mean for Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning, SAP has not given any standard DataSources because it makes more sense to build DataSources from the planning books as each company has their own planning strategies based on how they do there business. Right?
And for these modules there is no other way rather than generating DataSources from Planning Books and build the Data Flows based on it. Right?
Also these generated DataSources i.e. 9A**** pull data from live cache itself right or is there any setting that we need to enable for it to get data from live cache?
Thanks again for your valuable inputs hope to get answers to above questions as well.
