Regarding BI in Netweaver 7

hi
what is the relationship map between BI, netweaver, ECC ?
jj

Hi
NetWeaver is the technology that SAP solutions are currently build upon. There are a number of SAP solutions that are provided within the NetWeaver umbrella, eg. MDM, Enterprise Portal, BI, etc. SAP R/3 (or other names being ERP, ECC, etc) are all the enterprise solution for SAP. They are built on the NetWeaver platform as the underlying layer. So, keep R/3 separate from NetWeaver. One is the enterprise software and the other is the technology layer.
BI:
Business intelligence (BI) is a category of applications and technologies for gathering, storing, analyzing, and providing access to data to help enterprise users make better business decisions. BI applications include decision support systems, query and reporting, online analytical processing, statistical analysis, forecasting, and data mining.
www.informatica.com/solutions/resource_center/glossary/default.htm
Normally describes the result of in-depth analysis of detailed business data. Includes database and application technologies, as well as analysis practices. Sometimes used synonymously with “decision support,” though business intelligence is technically much broader, potentially encompassing knowledge management, enterprise resource planning, and data mining, among other practices. Business process engineering: The analysis and re-design of business processes and associated technology systems, with the goal to eliminate or reduce redundancy and streamline interactions.
it.csumb.edu/departments/data/glossary.html
SAP R/3: This is the default database or they refer it as the R/3 system which comes with SAP system.
mySAP: is the name of the suite of applications.
SAP Netweaver: is the Latest platform from SAP which supports Java development.
For J2EE professionals the entry point in SAP is SAP EP (Enterprise Portals), SAP XI (Exchange Infrastructure, now renamed to PI ). You could also try SAP BI (Business Intelligence).
SAP EP is portal development which is similar to Java Web development. SAP XI is more for integration technology. SAP BI is analytical domain similar to COGNOS.
Hope u got some information

  • Regarding difference between netweaver and WAS

can anyone tell me the difference between SAP netweaver and web application server???
actualy i have no idea regarding this topic.Could anyone help me to solve this asap.please reply to me urgently.
Edited by: Nishigandha Misra on Apr 10, 2008 2:11 PM

    hi
SAP net weaver is a platform which work as foundation for integration of components of SAP with each other ,
WAS  is one of them (component)
    other are like
    SAP  Enterprise Portal
SAP  Business Information Warehouse ( BIW )
    SAP  Exchange Infrastructure
SAP  Knowledge Management ( KM )
SAP  Mobile Infrastructure – Not yet fully released
SAP Master Data Management ( MDM )
    SAP Composite Application Framework
    SAP Life Cycle Management
The fragrance/essence of integration of all of the above in a unified development platform is called SAP NetWeaver. So, the name Integrated Development Environment ( IDE ) inherited for SAP NetWeaver.
    SAP NetWeaver provides,
an open integration – Ex: Platform independent,
an extended application platform – Ex: xApps,
permits the integration of the Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA),
an unified business processes across technological boundaries,
integration of applications as needed, and
access and edit simple information easily and in a structured manner.

  • Running SRM 5.5 (SP level 12) on Netweaver 7.01

we are in the midst of planning the implemenation of support packs and have hit a stumbling block regarding SRM and netweaver.
We are currently running SRM 5.5 (SP12) on netweaver 7.0
We will be moving all of our other systems (ECC, BW) to netweaver 7.01.  However, we have not found any clear documentation as to whether or not this version will run on Netweaver 7.01.  Do we need to move to SRM 7.0 if we want netweaver 7.01?
Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury (resources) at this time to do upgrade SRM, so our alternative would be to stay with SRM 5.5 / netweaver 7.0 and just up the SP level - though this would mean our SRM would be "behind" all of our other systms (NW 7.00 vs 7.01).
Ideally, we are just looking for some definitive (and clear) documentation regarding this issue - any links (or suggestions) would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
If you are not upgrading to SRM 7.0, the NetWever should be 7.00 for SRM 5.0.

  • SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 Trial Version, what's inside

    Hi all,
    I have two main questions.
    First:
What are the limitations of the trial version against the commercial version?
    Specifically It is written:
SAP NetWeaver Application Server, Java EE 5 Edition
    SAP Composition Tools
SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio (with Java EE support), based on Eclipse Callisto
    MaxDB 7.6 database
    Web Dynpro
Which are the composition tools? and
Is the Service registry and repository for service management missing?
    Second:
What manuals, tutorials or documents are good for beginners?
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards
    v s

    Hi,
to start with, the links provided by Abhijith represent a nice overview of the documentation delivered with <b>the older version (SAP NetWeaver 7.0)</b>, and are of no help regarding the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1.
    To your questions, v s:
    1) >>> What are the limitations of the trial version against the commercial version?
The main differences are that the trial has limited license (30-day, which can be extended to 90-days). It's only a developer installation (i.e. compared to productive install options in the commercial one)
    2) >>> Which are the composition tools?
    This should comprise:
    - the Composite Application Framework (CAF) - a framework for model-driven development of business logic and persistence of composite applications. More information <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/49/80b066798a4ba2a1e26ce93997e839/frameset.htm">here</a>.
    - the Visual Composer - a tool for visual modeling of user interfaces used by composite applications. More information <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/04134e8a5741dee10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm">here</a>.
    - the Guided Procedures, which a framework for orchestration of services into user-centric, collaborative processes. More information <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/fb/5e6f4169e25858e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">here</a>.
    3) >>> Is the Service registry and repository for service management missing?
The Services Registry <b>is part of the trial version</b>. The Enterprise Services Repository is not part of it, neither in the commercial release of SAP NW CE 7.1, SP01.
However, if you're interested in consuming enterprise services defined in the Enterprise Services Repository, you might want to check the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/explore-es">ES Workplace</a> area on SDN. It provides access to enterprise services definitions in hosted backend systems, which you can use in your composite applications in SAP NW CE 7.1.
    4) >>> What manuals, tutorials or documents are good for beginners?
A good number of getting started tutorials and sample code is available if you browse the Welcome page of your developer studio. You can open it by selecting Help -> Welcome from the main menu of the developer studio.
In the Tutorials tag page, you can find getting started tutorials for different technologies included in the composition environment. In the Samples tab page, you can click on the links to import the sample apps code right to your Developer Studio workspace and play around with them.
In addition, if you'd like to get an overview of what a composite application is, I'd recommend reading <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/45/beddad24a252f5e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm">the following section</a> in the Developer's Guide.
Last, but not least, the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/46/0b5d04cb774f08e10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm">following page</a> in the documentation gives a good overview of the overall documentation delivered with the product.
    Hope that helps!

  • Apps using Netweaver Gateway

    Hi,
we are trying to build Restful services using  using netweaver Gateway, and have just going through the documentation and blogs in sdn being beginners .
    In our landscape,
Gateway addons are installed on SAp bacjend system from where i need to pull the data say System A.
Gate way server is installed on different machine say System B.
Now Should i create GW data models on backend system System A and  GW consumption model on Gateway system System B?
Most of the blogs are written ,wherein both of them aer running on same system?
    Any pointers will be appreciated.
    Regards
    chandra

    Hi chandra,
NetWeaver Gateway system needs 2 data model definition.
One is for provider side (SAP side) and the other is consumer side.
Regarding provider side SAP system discloses meta data such way as WSDL, so we can generate data model automatically by using NWGW proxy generator.
On the other hand consumer side data model should be defined by hand.
And of cocourse we should map-program between provider side and consumer side.

  • Queries redg. SAP Netweaver Developer Studio Architecture :)

    Hello All,
I was going through the help pages on SAP Developer Studio and have following queries.
Have mentioned the links onto which I have few queries to ask:-
1> link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_webas630/helpdata/en/cb/f4bc3d42f46c33e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm and found a sentence saying:
"Offers a highly flexible development process, since the Developer Studio can also be used as a local development environment".
<u>Question</u> - Am confused with the word "also". what do they actualy mean by saying.."it can also be used as local development environment". Does it mean that I can use it by installing on my PC directly rather than on server?
2> This is related to SAP Developer Studio Archtecture.

The Model Abstraction Layer is a generic layer that provides the foundation for both the graphic connection and for representing design time objects at a logical level. This layer is thus an abstraction of the physical files and folders of the objects involved.

    Thanks and Warm Regards,

<i>Note: Please excuse me if this is not the right forum for such queries.</i>

    Hi Ritu ,
Netweaver Developer Studio can be used to deploy in local as well as remote servers.
Regarding the architecture Netweaver Developer Studio is based on open source Eclipse platform which SAP has developed its own plugins for its use.
Whatever components like views, viewsets etc can be represented by means of Navigation modeller ,Data modeller etc
Whatever design time objects are there they can be represented in such a manner that it explains the logical flow.

  • SLD on Netweaver 2004

    Hi all,
I have a some basic doubts in SLD. Since i am working in SR2 I know about SLD in Netweaver 2004 sr2. At the time of installation we can configure local sld .But i dont have an idea about netweaver 2004 version.
In this XI installation till now i have  completed ABAP and JAVA stack. But i am not sure whether SLD will come together with the java installation.
Any idea regarding SLD in netweaver 2004.
    Regards
    Vijay

    Hi Achim,
    Thanks for your valuable reply.
But as you said I checked adminsitrator user. There is no such user existing in UME. Any idea on this? adn also for your kind information i gave only java add in for abap and not java standalone installation.
Its opted for an SLD option like SLD available or coonect with SLD. Since i dont have a existing SLD i dint prefer this two options.
FYI: I  checked in OS level usr/sap/sid/sys/global/sld is existing From this i think sld is existing in the server but i am not able to log in.
    Kindly suggest me.

  • Which application of Netweaver will be useful for JAVA professionals

    Hi,
I am new to Netweaver and need to know which application of netweaver will be useful for me. I am basically a JAVA Programmer.
What exactly i can learrn in netweaver. EP,Webdynpro or XI.
    Regards,
    Sujan.

    Hi,
Netweaver Portal(EP) is a frontend which provides one solid interface to all your applications, whether they are SAP or not. It runs on the java platform.
You can develop pure j2ee applications using the Netweaver Developer Studio, it has plug-ins which help in developing SAP technologies such as Web Dynpro, but you don't have to use it, you can develop your application using pure java technologies like EJB, jsp, etc. It also provides a solution for deploying your apps to the web application server.
In EP & WebDynPro, you can easily code if you have Java knowledge.Java is a big part of being a Portal Developer.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Pooja.

  • BIA running under VMware

Please don't flame me as I am just trying to understand licensing, scalability, and cost of this solution.  My understanding of the BIA appliance consist of Linux blades (16GB of memory), share SAN disk subsystem (GPFS configured), isolated switched infrastructure, and the application software (TREX).  Speaking to the physical configuration, this could all be virtualized into a custom VMware configuration where you could maintain/guarantee a high level of performance for disk, network, and Linux guest/blade performance.  Now for some of my questions.
My understanding of the license is per 16GB where 16GB is the max per blade.  This license is for production usage and would be priced different in a dev/test environment.  Is this correct?  To move a dev blade to a production blade center would have a license cost, correct?  Also, if this solution was virtualized, an additional license would be needed when adding new virtual Linux guests to the solution.
Based on licensing, would it be possible to virtualize the dev/test environment for no or little cost and concentrate the hardware solution to production usage?
What have people done when they max out their current blade center (10 or 14 depending on HP or IBM)?  Just buy another appliance?  It would see easier to support a configuration where you could add a VMware guest and just purchase the additional software license.  A win for SAP and the customer!  This would allow an easier scalability path when loads increase.  I haven't heard/read about processor being a bottleneck so I have left this out but please let me know if this is an issue.
I know this is easier said then done but with virtual being supported in all other areas of the SAP landscape, it would make sense to allow it to creep into the BIA solution.
What do you guys think?  Am I crazy for even thinking it possible?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hello Steve,
first about licensing... There are no SAP license fees for the non-productive blades. If you move blades from dev/qa system to production, then you new license fees are due. Please talk to your SAP account executive in this case.
Next about virtualization... BI Accelerator is all about performance. BIA is highly optimized for parallel processing and taking advantage of Intel CPUs. VMware or other attempts to virtualize BIA will not get even close to the real deal. It's basically a waste of time to even try.
Nevertheless there is one case where it makes sense. For a training system you would not need good performance and you would be using the "virtual BIA" only with a single training user. We have been thinking about it but as you said, it's not as easy as it sounds.
