I am facing this problem,please tell me if any one knows the resolution.
I have to activate the 0fi_gl_4 data source in bi.
while i am doing this one it is giving below error.
" Remote activation of data source is not possible "

First install it in ECC using RSA5 Tcode then check it in RSA6 and replicate it and use.

Business Content Activation - run time error

Hi guys,
We were at plugin 2002.1. We installed PI 2002.2 and PI 2003.1 on top of it.
After the plug-in upgrade, we are at support pack 9 for SAP-BW and 13 for BI-Content. For aba and basis, we are at 620 and support pack 32.
As part of the regression testing after the 2003.1 plugin upgrade, we found out that the business content activation abends with the following run time error.
Runtime Errors SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC
Exception CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB
Looks like it is trying to insert into table RSOLTPSOURCEFIET and the row already is existing. I thought the activation process is supposed to update something if it is already out there.
If we just select the 'only necessary', the activation goes through ok, but if we select 'before and after in the data flow', we get this abend.
Any clues???

Hi Seow,
This is how I resolved it. I looked at the ST22 closely and one of the messages indicated that the number range is missing in tran SNRO for an infoObject. I created an entry for that infoobject using SNRO and tried activation and it worked.
When we created an OSS for SAP to look into it, they recommended the following two things. I tried these two but it did not work. I am mentioning them below just in case they may help you.
1) Sometimes there is inconsistency in the content cache when trying to activate objects and we have to delete the repository cache. To delete the repository cache, go to RSA1 ---> Business Content -
> Extras ---> Delete Rep Cache
2) Execute SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES program for types 1,2,3 and 6.
If this helps, don't forget to assign points.

Restrict Business Content Activation

Does anyone know of a way to restrict business content activation while still allowing developers to maintain objects in BW 7.0? I ran a trace while someone was activating an InfoObject and didn't see anything that I could use to achieve this level of control. If I remove the S_RS_ADMWB Maintenance (ACTVT=23) authorization for INFOOBJECT, then that stops the activation; however, we want our developers to be able to maintain existing InfoObjects. We just don't want most to be able to activate business content.

We have our own SAP development team at my company and don't typically use many consultants. It has always been our philosophy to allow our SAP developers to have comparable access across all our SAP development environments (e.g., ECC development, BW development, etc.) for cross-training purposes. But in reality, only a handful of our developers are very knowledgeable in our BW environment; we call them our "BW Administrators". These BW Administrators have concerns that one of the other developers who has played around in the BW environment but isn't all that knowledgeable might activate business content without realizing the implications of what they're doing. We would like for all of our developers to have RSA1 etc. so they can learn more about BW; however, per request of our BW Administrators, we want to restrict them such that they can't activate business content. But as you said (and per authorization tracing that I've done), there doesn't appear to be a way to restrict them from activating business content without also restricting them in other areas where we don't want them restricted. I guess we'll have to rely on administrative controls (i.e., training).

Regarding error occur in business content activation

Hai experts,
when i am activating the business content its going to dump analysis the system is going to give me the error like " message_type_x" using st22 i found that error occured in abap program .It is an predefined program.Is there any solution for that one other wise i have raise this question to service.sap.com.i need emergency.

You have to underastand whether this is happening with all the objects , I mean are you getting this dump for any object you are trying to activate through bi content.
If this is happening with few objects then you have see whether the method of activation bi content is being performed in the correct method.
If thisis happening with all the objects then check all the basic settings and at the same time check authorisations.
Check if you have any thing in SU53 transactions.

Taking too much time incollecting in business content activation

Hi all,
I am collecting business content object for activation. I have selected 0fiAA_cha object,while cllecting in the activation but it is taking too much time and then it asks for source
system authorisation and then throws error maximum run time exceded. i have selected data flow before there.
What can be the reason for it.

Hi ,
You should also always try and have the latest BI content patch installed but I don't think this is the problem. It seems that there
are alot of objects to collect. Under 'grouping' you can select the option 'only necessary objects', please check if you can
use this option to install the objects that you need from content.

Datasources in 3.X in a new BI 7.0 Business Content Activation

Hi all,
When Installing Business Content for a BI 7.0 Installation, some objects like Datasources, Transfer Rules and Communication structures are activated under 3.X format.
Is there a way to install all Business Content in 7.X format, different from a migration process (which is a manual process)?
Does this extractors (3.X) have any performance issues in case of use them exactly as they are delivered from Business Content?

I understand that a migration process can be executed to old 3.X datasources, but this is a manual process.
My point here is that the activation of a brand new business content of an Instalation NW 7.01 enhancement package 1 and with a Bussines Content Release = BI Content Add-On 4 SP 03 have some elements (datasources) in 7x Version (transformations and DTP´s) and some others in the old 3.x version (transfer Rules and communication structure).
In the moment of ACTIVATING the Business Content, there is not an option to migrate, but the standard Business Content delivered for this scenario is sometimes 7x, and sometimes 3x (i.e. CO_OM_CCA extractors).
I need some documentation to point that, besides some best practices of regular UPGRADES, the STANDARD deliver of a business content of this scenario contains both 7X Datasources and 3X Datasources.

Also ,The selected objects are not getting activated
I checked RFC connection , but i am getting rfc connection is ok

when you are installing the business conetet does you checked the source system option of that objects , check both the self source sysytm and R/3 source system and try toi do install.
once again cam e out of the ( log off) and do collect the one object with wiyh only necessary objects and do installation , once it is succeful then try for all objects.
In your case when installing for that object all the tablesa nd every thing shoulkd be formed but Log could not be written to output device T log is not appering .
so it is better try with each object first then go for all objects.

Business content activation in a fresh implementation

Before i begin let me state that i did check and did get information about activation...my concern is that i am new to implementation and i want to know exactly what are the steps that need to be followed at R3 end and in BI when we imlpement a fresh system as far as business content is concerned.As of now the functional team is setting up the R3 system...appreciate your inputs on this in detail....

Step 1: Define Logical System in R/3
Step 2: Assigning Logical System to Client
Step 3: Setting Up an RFC Destination
Step 4: Distributing Data Model
Message Types Involved in Process of Data Loading
Step 5: Generating Partner Profile
Step 6: Maintaining Message types in T-Code WE20
Communication Setting between BW and R/3:
Creating Source System (SALE): This step creates source systems which are to be connected.
1.
Assigning Source System to Client (SALE): This step gives a logical name to a SAP Client from which the communication is to be established.
2.
Setting up RFC Destination (SM59): This step is required to establish remote connection to the partner with which Source system is trying to communicate. Here one has to maintain the logon and IP details of the target system.
3.
Distributing Data Model (BD64): A distribution model is used to model a distributed environment in which you specify messages exchanged between sending and receiving systems. Here one has to define the message protocols with which the two systems will communicate.
4.
Generating Partner Profile (BD82): This process generates a partner profile for each system with which your system communicates. Outbound records are created in the partner profile for each outgoing message, and inbound records are created for each incoming message.
Note: If one distributes Data Model before generating partner profile then one has to redefine partner profile in other system also (repeat step in both system). In this document we are generating partner profile after Distribution of data model so as to demonstrate how to maintain inbound and outbound message types in WE20.
5.
Maintaining Message Types (WE20): This process is optional. Generally while generating partner profiles we automatically get the respective Outbound and Inbound messages, which can be checked in T-Code WE20. If the message types are not defined then one can manually do it by following this process.

Business Content activation and change - BI upgrade

Hi Colleagues,
I am working on a project on which one.
1. Developpers have activated SAP BI business content.
    and for minor changes, they will directly modify the business contents infoprovider.
As example.
1. They will activate 0IC_C03 Material Stcks/Movements (as of 3.0B)
2. They will change cube structure :
   - Add a material plant dimension with 2 characteristic inside.
    - Add additional field in a existing dimension : 0company_code inside Location Dimension.
I always have worked on project on which one we made a copy of the business content infoprovider before to change it.
QUESTIONS :
I would like to know what is the impact of changing directly the infoprovider of the business content ?
Is there an issue with BI upgrade ?
Is there any SAP BI recommendation regarding system development to minimize impact on BI upgrade ?

It's always better to use BC Objects as template if you want to do any customizations to the standard objects.
For any reason if someone again installed bc for the same object ,assume person doesn't check match option ,so the std object will overwrite the existing active version and as a result the customizations for the object will be lost
As far as I know there won't be any impact , I do not have any doc but you can search in forum

Business content activation 7.0

Hi,
Recently we have upgraded from BI 3.5 to 7.0.
We are facing a problem where in while activation of business content for some BI infoobjects some of the objects are not activated.
What f i consider revised version and activate it, do i get object upgraded to 7.0 version?

Hi Aman,
Yes, you can try activating the revised version as it would be version 7.0, I think it should work 100%.
(or) You can also try reinstalling the infoobject from the beginning.

Business content activation in fresh implementation

Dear gurus
Kindly excuse me if its an old cliched topic...I am new to implementation and i have been assigned to an end-to-end implementation project..my early work would be to know if standard business content available in BI will suffice our requirement or not....kindly guide as to how proceed from very beginning..what should i do first and yes since i will have to activate the entire flow in BI...how to go about it....i dont know what all ia should ask...kindly help with your suggestions..

Observe that is mandatory to install objects from the bottom up, so it is safer to activate small groups of objects, this way it is also easier to determine the causes of errors and make the appropriate corrections. Basically you need to install the objects in the sequence shown on slide 14.

- Update Rules (or Transformation Rules for Dataflows available in version 7.0).

Hi,
Business content is the place where u can find the SAP standard BW objects lyk infoproviders, infosoruces, updaterules, queries etc.,..
Based on the requiremnt we have to c int he business content whether that matches with teh business content objects.
( suppose a customer infocube requirment is tere then we have to take into the consideration what all the dimensions i mean views the users is expecting the reports and model it and simultaneously u can see for the BC infoprovders whether any matches r not if matchign install them and utilize them. It is always recomended to make a copy of the standard ones an use )
U can go to the rsa1->business content -> and spcify the collection paremeters and then can install the BW objects which match ur requirement.
As per DS's are concerned, when u make a connection to any source sytem and replicate the system in the BW end all teh DS's (which are active willbe usable )will be copied over.

Hello ,
How to activate business content for master data ingoobjects . Like 0p_plant .
I activated PP cube and just want to proceed now for masterdata with out missing it's attribute .
Should I drag infoobject and select dataflow before , Is it correct method ? But in this case , I am getting so many other object which i don't want .
I only want to activate master data object , ( it's datasources , transferrule , update rule and infopackage if possible )

Hi Akshay,
you can very activate the object of your own choice by simple drag and drop.
Howcver, this is usually not recommended as you might miss objects which are very important in the data flow.
Apart from this you can also make selections of the objects from all the object included due to the option " before and after data flow" by checking or unchecking them while installing your content.

Business Content Activation of business partner

Hi,
I am activating standard business partner from business content.The business partner we have right now is of version 3.3/01 and has lot of custom fields. When I am activating the version 3.5/03 I want to make sure I don't lose those custom attributes and also want to know how this will impact the cubes,ODS,Infosets,Update rules,Transfer rules, queries etc associated with this InfoObject. Can anyone please help me out with this issue.
Also while trying to simulate installation of an InfoObject,it ends up with red light. It gives me a message that one of the attributes in the latest version is a navigational attribute and the older version it was a display attribute.Hence while simulating I check both the install and match/copy box so that I can transfer the selections without having to make it navigational but end up with the red light. Is it advisable that I go ahead with installation or how should I go above it.

when you activate the new version , the version is changed from M to A and the new business content would become the active state...
But then since the old BPartner IOBJ is being used in ODS.. cubes etc , I am not sure if your Business COntent installation can proceed since there is master data as well as the same being used across BW.
You could try a merge instead to see if he new fields as part of the new business content is carried over.

Business content activation in BI 7

Hi - We are on BI 7 and trying to activate business content. When I try to install an
infocube with dataflow "Before and After" ie including infosource and datasources
I get this message....
"On the following screen, logon with your user so that the
system can check whether you are authorized in BW to
transfer DataSources into the source system from the Content"
is this a new feature in BI 7 to activate R/3 datasources from BW ?
I know the old way...
1. Frist activate R/3 datasource
2. Replicate the metadata in BW
3. Then activate business content.
will the new feature in 7 do the first two steps from BW side ?
In your projects did you use this new feature and how is it
working with you ?

Sabrina,
When you select "Before and After" you include also the "Source System" objects portion.
Just make sure you uncheck whatever objects are below the "Source System" subtree. Then you should be fine since only the BI objects will be checked.
