I am Rajesh, I want to know that can we check Cisco 4500/6500 power supply whether it is working or dead by connecting it directly with power source and without attching it to chassis.

Cisco 6500 power supply and module (hot-swappable?)

Hi everyone!
We have currently a Cisco 6500 with 2 power supply of 3000w. We want to replace these PS for 2 new ones, which have higher wattage: 6000w.
Can we replace them without needing to turn the 6500 off?. I mean, What happens if we insert a 6000w PS and the switch is working with one 3000w PS?
Is it possible to do this replacement "on hot"?
And second, we also have a ws-x6708-10g-3c module. Can we insert this module "on hot"? Without needing to turn the Catalyst 6500 off?

Cisco 3850 Redundant Power Supply Reporting Issue

We have deployed several Cisco 3850's. Several are showing the following symptom

Every single switch at this particular location has the same status on the B power supply. The problem was there on the previous code level (3.2.2) and we recently upgraded to 3.3.5 to resolve some SNMP bugs on the switches we also expected the latest Assurewave version to fix this issue also. So couple questions:
1. Anyone else seeing this?
2. Anyone found a fix for it?

Hi Zabeel,
                   I did talk with TAC - per the engineer there are two bugs that cause the issue and one was fixed in 3.3.5 - so we upgraded all our 3850's to that code level. Unfortunately for us, that still didn't fix the issue. TAC suggested that it may be fixed in rev 3.7.0, but that has not officially been confirmed by Cisco's developers.
         We're waiting for the official "fix" before going through another round of switch upgrades.
        TAC did suggest reseating the power supply if you still have the issue after the upgrade to 3.3.5 - but that's not really an option for me since my switches are geographically spread out.

Cisco 3850 Dual Power Supply - One No Response

Hey Guys,
I am getting multiple switches on my network showing "power supply failure" from Solarwinds.
I am running Cisco 3850s running v 03.02.03.SE cat3k_caa-universalk9 iOS, and they all have dual power supplies. When i do the sh env power, I get this output.

Ciscoview Cisco 6509 VSS power supply LED indicators incorrect

Hello all
i am experiencing the following problem.
In the Ciscoview, the LED indicators of the power supply of Cisco 6509 VSS are represented incorrectly. All power inputs and fans are okay actually. however, in the ciscoview, there is only 1 green "INPUT OKAY" for each power supply. And "FAN OKAY" LEDS are off on Active chassis.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Check the PS at the back, is there a light? If there's no light, then you need to RMA the PS as it could be faulty.
If there's a light on the PS, then you need to RMA the switch.

Cisco 7603-S power supply

Hi,
i have cisco 7603-S router with 1500W DC power supply. As per documentation, there is one input per power supply. I want to know the Electrical Cable specification (thickness of the cable in Sqmm)for the 1500W DC power supply, also type of lugs if required.

Cisco 6500 Power Supply and related configurations if any?

Hi,
this depends on what power-supplies you have and how loaded your chassis is.
For Example:
When your chassis is loaded with
     1x Sup720
     8x GE-TX Linecard (WS-X6748)
     2x 3kW Power-Supplies (WS-CAC-3000W)
Then you have to run the chassis in Combined-Mode because, even if there is no second Sup, the same power is allocated to the second sup-slot as if there were one installed.
Having 2x 6kW Power-Supplies, then you should run your chassis in Redundancy-Mode and go with your proposed setup.
for combined-mode use:
cat6k(config)# power redundancy-mode combined
for redundancy-mode use:
cat6k(config)# power redundancy-mode redundant
verify with:
cat6k# show power
system power redundancy mode = combined

Hi Everyone
So i just ordered a W540 as my work PC too swap out my old Dell latitude.
My company is trasferring from Dell to lenovo setups in all the offices.
We move arround with our laptops so we have a lot of extra power supplys from Dell (19.5 V 3.34A with round plugs).
My question is, will we be able to use an adapter like this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2PCS-New-Power-converter-Cable-Adapter-For-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Carbon-0B47046-/3...) to power our laptops instead of buying loads of new power supplies?

No. That power supply will supply 65 W at the most, which is nowhere near the amount of power required for the W540. You could try to rig it to work on an X240, which takes about that much power, but a W540 requires a 170 W supply due to its power hungry CPU and GPU.

1 red "OUTPUT FAIL," normally is off but illuminates when power supply outputs are out of regulation limits

INPUT OK
AC-input power supplies:
•Green—Source AC voltage is OK. (Input voltage is 85 VAC or greater.)
•Off—Source AC voltage falls below 70 VAC, is not present, or the PEM is turned off.
DC-input power supplies:
•Green—Source DC voltage is OK. (-40.5 VDC or greater.)
•Off—Source DC voltage falls below -33 VDC or is not present at the PEM.
FAN OK
Green—Power supply fan is operating properly.
Off—Power supply fan failure is detected.
OUTPUT FAIL
Red—Problem with one or more of the DC-output voltages of the power supply is detected.
Off—DC-output voltages within acceptable margins.
Note For proper operation of the OUTPUT FAIL LED, systems with single power supplies must be configured with a minimum of one fan tray and one supervisor engine. Systems with dual power supplies must have a minimum configuration of one fan tray, one supervisor engine, and one additional module. Failure to meet these minimum configuration requirements can cause a false power supply output fail signal.
This is for 6500 switches but apply to almost all models.

Power supply of Cisco WVC210 Camera with batteries

I want to use my new WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Video Camera on my wheeled robot, so I would like to provide a separate power source for this camera.
Can I use 4 "D" batteries for it? They give 6 V DC, not 5 V as written on the camera.
I've measured the voltage coming out from the power supply, which came with the camera. In Switzerland it outputs 5.39 V DC.
I am afraid 6 V DC may damage the camera. Or is it OK?
If 6 V is not OK, then another possibility is 4 x 1.2 V DC researchable batteries. But it gives only 4.8 V DC.
Can camera be supplied with only 4.8 V DC? Or is it better to use 6 V DC?
Or I shall build DC-DC converter outputting exactly 5 V?
In specifications for the Cisco WVC210 it is written: "5V DC 2.0A switching power supply". But how tolerrant is the switching power supply? Will it work safely with 6 - 5.8 V?

I'm afraid we can't recommend using any power source other than the AC adapter included with the camera. Using anything else would likely void your warranty also.

Odd power supply fault callhome emails on Cisco 2232 FEXs?

We recently enabled smtp callhome for our ucs pod a few days ago. Since then, we've received more than a dozen email bursts about power supply failures in each of the four Cisco Nexus 2232TP FEXs in our pod. In each case, we get a "Recovered" email within a minute or two, and we're not seeing power supply failure emails for any other devices within the UCS pod.
Here's a sample email burst from this morning, showing the subject lines within my email inbox:

If we were seeing this from just one fex, I'd suspect a hardware issue. If any of the other UCS devices (rackmount/blade servers, fabric interconnects, etc) reported similar issues, I'd suspect a power feed problem within the DC.
But this has me baffled. If it helps, the UCS pod is running firmware 2.0.3c

The above is resolved in recent version of Nexus 5K switch software. New defect to port the fix to UCSM has been submitted today

It will take a while to get published on web site.
Even though they are cosmetic, I would suggest you open a TAC SR with UCSM, FEX tech support and above bug IDs so that we can track the resolution.
