Regarding Correlation
How and why is correlation used in a BPM sceanrio?
Can anyone explain with an example the usage of Correlation?
Edited by: swathi suresh on Mar 17, 2008 6:11 AM
Dear Swathi
Correlation used to assign messages that belong together to the same process instance.
It joins messages that have the same valuefor one or more XML Elements.
if u want to use the corelation in BPM on a particular filed then u have to do the following steps.
in the corelation editor
in the first column give any name to the corelation of type string
in second column select the message interface for both the files u r getting and
in the third column select the filed on which u want to set the corelation.
U can go through the links below for moree details

Correlation.findInstanceBy...
Hi All,
I'm quite new with Correlations, and facing some problems...
I have two process, A and B.
Process B, define a correlation named Bcorrelation.
If I run Correlation.findInstanceBy(name : "Bcorrelation", values : <the_values>) from a Global Activity on B Process, I can find the instance associated with no problem.
If I run Correlation.findInstanceBy(name : "Bcorrelation", values : <the_values>) from a Global Activity on A Process, I cannot find the instance associated.
So, I suppouse that findInstanceBy is looking on correlations associated to the process where the code is running...
Any idea if it's possible to do a kind of 'inter-process' correlation search? (ej. find B instances from A Process Global Activity).
Any idea where can I get more documentation regarding Correlations...?
Thanks in Advance
Regards
cmontagClientBusinessProcess only works when you invoke the code from the client (or workspace) and uses the existing PAPI connection used by the workspace. This can only be done from dashboards or JSPs.
You're probably not on the client side. You should probably use BusinessProcess and connect using a user credentials.
I'm having trouble making sense of what you're trying to do in this code. I see you're connecting to PAPI, looking for instances and creating correlations. Looking for instances and creating correlations are functions usually done at different sides of code. For instance, in one process you set up a correlation so another can locate an instance based on account numbers, POs, etc. You don't need correlations if you know the instance id.
So let me know what you're trying to do and maybe we can help.

Hi guys .. M having a little problem with the correlation sets here ...here's my situation
1. Created three Async Processes A,B and C
2. The Reply from C should go to A directly and not through B.
3 .This is the same thing as the Tutorial in the Sample of BPEL folder regarding Correlation Sets
4. This channel is working properly without any problem
5. I have another process D which calls the same operation 'receive' which Process C also calls to return data to 'A'.
6. I have kept the two receive activities sequentially.
7. After the first recieve is over when it comes to the second receive i m getting a null pointer exception
8. When i remove the correlation set from the second receive it shows receive2 pending which is alright but somehow i need process D to fire the second receive as well ..it's not working ..
9. Incase of An adapter ..file/jms etc this thing will work but i m confused why it's not working and running into null pointer..
Any suggestion or help is highly appreciated ...
thanksHi,
yes i did all the things ..property,property alias and all ...but still i m getting that .. i m trying to figure out how these things are working independently but when am using both in the same process ..the second receive gets the null pointer when i am adding the correlation properties on that receive..m using the Oracle soa 10.1.3.0 base version on olite for this testing..

Hi,
EveryOne,
Good day to all of you..
I am new to Oracle BPEL technology and during my course of study and understanding period, i thought of creating a process and i have a query regarding correlation in Oracle BPEL.
I have a asynchronous process, which accepts 2n different kinds of requests and two differnt kind of responses which i have integrated using JMS.
Ex: Process -------------- REQ ------ JMS1
--------------- RESP_ACK------
--------------- REQ_ACK----- JMS2
--------------- RESP -------------
My problem is i can send multiple requests at a shot into the JMS and the system which talks to JMS sends me back a Acknowledgment (REQ_ACK)...
Now i wait at the JMS2 for the response which can be coming for any of those requests that i had already posted.
I would like to know is there any way i would be able to find out the response for that particular request that i had sent. I am using Order Number as corrleation.
kindly let me know if there are any solutions for this problem. I am quite stuck at this point.
Thanks a lot in advance.
- deepakYes you can achieve this. There are many ways to get this, it depends on your design. I didn't try the correlation sets.
If i were you I would like to use the message header properties of the JMS queue. Set an MsgID for the request message and use the same MsgId to listen the response. You have to ask the partner to listen to your request message and store the KsgID and set the same MsgID to the header properties in response message.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks

Correlation Set With externals partners
Hello,
I have a question regarding correlation set and there usage.
I'm currently making a samll poc on "correlation set" for testing the feature to determine if we could use it for our use case.
I'm hitting some problems that I can't overcome for the moment, maybe someone could help me.
First, here is my "test" use case :
I have 1 BPEL exposing two webservices interface
- 1 interface for creating the BPEL instance
- 1 interface for consulting the status (or other thing) of the BPEL using a functionnal ID
The BPEL logic goes like this :
Receive > validate the request > generate a unique ID > reply to the consumer (attach the unique ID) > loop on the second receive (waiting for consumer calls)
The consumer calls the second interface with the unique ID > The right instance is correlated using the unique ID > some treatment(is the response ready ? for example) > reply to the consumer (with the response if ready, otherwise "false")
The two problems I encounter are the following :
1 - I can't seem to be able to initialize the correlation set value anywhere in the BPEL except for the "Receive activity that create the instance". But that would assume that the consummer supply a unique ID (which is not likely in our case). Is it not possible to initialize the correlation set in the first reply ? or in any other activity in the BPEL ? The documentation doesn't say if you can or can't initialize the correlation set else where.
2 - Whenever a consumer try to "consult" a BPEL status using an unknown ID, the call timeout after 45 seconds with a technical exception. It is not possible to handle such a case in order to supply a "functionnal fault" without waiting the 45 seconds ?
remark :
This is working totaly fine when I initialize the correlation set with the first request of the consummer but as stated above, my externals partners (several) will not be able to provide me unique ID.

mathieu
Edited by: mathieu.d on Mar 12, 2013 5:58 AMHi,
I'm facing the same issue in 10.1.3.3 when trying to use a correlation set on an attribute of a regular xml message.
Have you been able to figure out what the problem was in your case?
Kind regards,

Correlated Subqueries, NOT EXISTS & Anti Joins - Clarification
I am a bit confused now regarding correlated subqueries and the NOT EXISTS operator (I had originally thought I understood but am all mixed up now!)
I was reading around and have gathered that if one were to use EXISTS that this isnt the preferred method, and that the query should actually be re-written as a join (im guessing INNER JOIN) to improve performance.
NOT EXISTS is also not a recommended method from what I read as well.
Correlated subqueries in general are not recommended for performance issues, since the subquery needs to be executed once for every row returned by the outer query.
I was reading up on anti joins, and found that a lot of people referred to anti joins with the use of NOT EXISTS and a correlated subquery, which if my above understanding is correct is super bad in performance as it combines two things that people dont recommend.
I was wondering for anti joins, is there any other way to write them besides a NOT EXISTS with a correlated subquery?
Essentially what would be the most efficient way of writing an anti join? Or when Im trying to find all the rows that are NOT a common match between two tables.Hi,
chillychin wrote:
I am a bit confused now regarding correlated subqueries and the NOT EXISTS operator (I had originally thought I understood but am all mixed up now!)That's easy to understand! This is a topic that does not lend itself to easy, general solutions. So much depends on the circumstances of a particular query that you can never honestly say anything like "EXISTS is bad".
I was reading around and have gathered that if one were to use EXISTS that this isnt the preferred method, and that the query should actually be re-written as a join (im guessing INNER JOIN) to improve performance. It depends. EXISTS and joins do different things. For example, when you have a one-to-many relationship, joining can increase the number of rows. Even if the join is faster than EXISTS, you may have the additional cost of doing a GROUP BY or SELECT DISTINCT to get just one copy of each row.
NOT EXISTS is also not a recommended method from what I read as well.
Correlated subqueries in general are not recommended for performance issues, since the subquery needs to be executed once for every row returned by the outer query. There's a lot of truth in that. However, results of coirrelated queries can be cached. That is, the system may remeber the value of a correlation variable and the value it retuned, so the next time you need to run the sub-query for the same value, it will just return the cached result, and not actually run the query again.
Remember that performance is only one consideration. Sometimes performance is extremely important, but sometimes it is not important at all. Whether a query is easy to understand and maintain is another consideration, that is sometimes more important than performace.
The optimizer may re-write your code in any case. When perforance really is an issue, there's no substitute for doing a EXPLAIN PLAN, finding out what's making the query slow, and addressing those issues.
I was reading up on anti joins, and found that a lot of people referred to anti joins with the use of NOT EXISTS and a correlated subquery, which if my above understanding is correct is super bad in performance as it combines two things that people dont recommend. It's actually only one thing that the people who don't recommend it don't recommend. EXISTS sub-queries are always correlated. (Well, almost always. In over 20 years of writing Oracle queries, I only remember seeing one uncorrelated EXISTS sub-query that wasn't a mistake, and that was in a forum question that might have been hypothetical.) Nobody worth listening to objects to EXISTS because it is EXISTS, or to a correlated sub-query because it is correlated. They object to things because they are slow (or confusing, or fragile, but you seem to be concerned with performance, so let's just say slow for now.) If someone tires to avoid an EXISTS sub-query, it precisely because the sub-query is correlated, and that is only an objection because they suspect the correlation will make it slow.
I was wondering for anti joins, is there any other way to write them besides a NOT EXISTS with a correlated subquery? As the name implies, you can use a join.
SELECT d.*
FROM scott.dept d
LEFT OUTER JOIN scott.emp e ON d.deptno = e.deptno
WHERE e.deptno IS NULL
;is an anti-join, showing details about the departments that have no employees.
Essentially what would be the most efficient way of writing an anti join? Or when Im trying to find all the rows that are NOT a common match between two tables.Anytime you can use EXISTS, you can also use IN, or a join. Personally, I tend to use the in the reverse of that order: I'll generally try it with a join first. If that looks like a problem, then I'll try IN. The query above can also be done like this:
SELECT *
FROM scott.dept
WHERE deptno NOT IN (
SELECT deptno
FROM scott.emp
WHERE deptno IS NOT NULL -- If needed
;Failing that, I'll try EXISTS.
Sometimes other methods are useful, too. For example, if we only need to know the deptnos that exist in scott.dept but not scott.emp, and no other information about those departments, then we can say:
SELECT deptno
FROM scott.dept
MINUS
SELECT deptno
FROM scott.emp

Hi experts,
I have gone through the relevant thread & tested in the system. However, I still got question about the field "create delivery group" in item catergory (VOV7). This filed can be marked X or A.
Appreciate illustrating about the difference. Many thanks.The F1-Help of that field reads below;
Form delivery group and correlate BOM components
Here you can determine whether sub-items that belong to a main item, and which resulted from a BOM explosion, are to be combined in a delivery group.
Use
You use a delivery group to determine a common delivery date for all the items that it contains. If you double the quantity ordered for the main item, then the order quantity for the sub-item will also be doubled.
Indicator X means that a delivery date is created for the delivery group. The system uses the last date (chronologically) of an item in this group to create the schedule line date.
Indicator A means that the system generates correlated schedule lines. If no complete delivery is required, as soon as all the items in a bill of material are available, the system creates a correlated schedule line. On the first date, when all items in a bill of material are available, a confirmed quantity is issued.
Additionally check the below links regarding correlated schedule line;;

Hi,
Since I installed a few updates, that I can't access the sharepoint the same way. I always get errors when trying to access the majority of the pages.
I already removed the update suggested on other threads (KB2844286), but everything remains the same.
I always receive errors like this one:
Error
An unexpected error has occurred.
Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

what can I do? The Sharepoint 2010 is located on a virtual partition of our server, running Windows Server 2008 Standard edition SP1.
When I try to access administration tools it happens the same error, and I don't know what I can do more.
Please help me.
best regards,
Jorge GuimarãesI followed some tips, to trace the error, allowing some trace debug, and got this:

Hello,
Calendar/iCloud chrashes on OSX when i try to klick the checkbox for share/use "calendar" in icloud.
What can i do to fix it?
In the same time / parallel, when i open iTunes, a window tells me that: "com.apple.MediaLibraryService was closed unexpected". Is there a correlation?
The whole Problems begann Days ago, when i stupidly "played" at the rights and permissions for another "user". After a TM-Backup the Problems where there. It seems so that a few of my Picturefolders also weren´t recovered...
Kind regards to all of you!
Here ist the analysis - i cant do anything with it becuse i dont know much about it/that:

And both of the others wouldn't connect for a few minutes, but are now working again.
More suprising is that trying to log in to webmail (www.icloud.com) is giving a very unhelpful error message, suggesting the server is down. Everything else Internet is working fine for me, and haven't changed any settings, so fairly sure problem is Apple's end.
It's possible that your iPhone is collecting your mail via a different server route that is still working; my three iCloud accounts are collecting via p02.imap.mail.me.com, p09.imap.mail.me.com and p99.imap.mail.me.com, and it's only p02 that's consistantly not working. -
How to tell if correlation is working...
All,
I currently have a simple BPM where I have 2 receive steps (both start processes) within a 2 branch fork step for a header and item file. Both receive stepsOnce branch receives the header message and the other receives the item message and there is a correlation on the material number. After the fork step I have a transformation to produce a single target message and a send step to send the data to the receiver.
I have a test where I'm sending in a single row of data for each of the source messages which should result in a successful correlation. When I go into process monitoring (transaction SWF_XI_SWI1) I see 6 workflow steps. 2 are the (Sub)workflows for each of the records in the header and item files (1 subworkflow for the record in the header file and 1 subworkflow for the record in the detail file). When I look at the graphical display of the header read it shows that it read the header record but is waiting for the item record. If I look at the graphical display of the item read it shows that it read the item record but is waiting on the header item.
For each of the 2 reads there are 2 wait steps each. It looks to me like my correlation isn't working but I don't know how to confirm this. Is there a way to look at either of the messages to determine what the value it's attempting to correlate is?Hi Shaun,
Go to moni and click on PE then it will take you to "View workflow Chronicle" tab. Click on "View workflow Objects" tab. In this tab you will found the message interfaces. Under one of the message interface it will display your Integration Process name. Click on the integration process name it will take you to next window "Basic Data" tab. Move to "XML Messages" tab and click on any of the object type. In that onject type check is there you correlation elements. Now load your inputing data and execute then it will display the correlation value from you input payload.
Thanks & Regards.,

I create a sales order with sales BOM which one component is short of stock that reserve no qty. And then I create outbound delivery, but error log happens as below and the delivery order has nothing in the item lines:
As a result of qty correlation, dlv.grp 002 from sls.ord.*** will be deleted.
But after creating SO, I updated the customizing of BOM material's item category, and change "create delivery group" from A to space.
How can I solve this problem to create partial delivery order in spite of some component materials are short of stocks? Please check Note 350468.
Also check the note 774347 for collective notes on BOM.
Hope this helps

Correlation of AQ messages no longer working in 10.1.3.3
Does anyone have the same problem as we do in correlating an outbound (enqueued) and an inbound (dequeued) AQ message in BPEL? This is the functionality as demonstrated in example 124.AQAdapter/AQOutboundCorrelation where the request and response wsdl's are combined into a single wsdl and the adapter can correlate the response message to the request message....
We have a number of BPEL processes where a request is enqueued and the response to that specific request has to be dequeued for further processing.
This used to work fine in the 10.1.2 version but since version 10.1.3.3 we get this error:
Failed get wsdl service definition.
Failed to get a WSDL service that support the portType "{http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/aq/RequestIn/}Enqueue_ptt" in WSDL definition "{http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/aq/inbound/}aqAdapter".
Please verify that WSDL portType "{http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/aq/RequestIn/}Enqueue_ptt" is supported by a service in WSDL file.
it looks like the request port type is to be available in the inbound (ie response) AQ adapter wsdl?!
does anyone have a clue?i don't have any ideas abt load condition and threads etc.
but i have found the answer to the question i posed above where i wanted help regarding AQ correaltion to work with correlation headers.
for native adapter correlation to work the send and receive should point tot he same aprtner link also the header values are mapped in such a way that outbound header of messageId should be smae as the correlation header of incoming message. IF such is the case adapter framework correlates the 2 messages.
the exampls 124 works fine in 10.1.3.1 alonwith use of sql scripts.
we can also model another BPEL process whihc shall do the job being done by sql script in the example above.
in the exampls bpel\samples\tutorials\124.AQAdapter\AQOutboundCorrelation
The AQOutboundCorrelation is the sender process where the native adapter correlation works. This project also contains the sql scripts to create the AQ queues and to transfer data from out queue to in queue.
The receiver BPEL is designed pick from “out” queue process the message and put it in “in” queue also it extracts message id from in message and copies it to correlation of out message. -
Issue with Correlation in 11g related to Number of Instances
Hi ,
I am working on the correlation sample application and i observed like correlation is working fine but it seems two instances are creating in EM console,
As per my knowledge when we are working with correlation we should only one instance,
Can anyone tell me why i am getting two instances instead of one ?
Is it a bug in SOA 11g version ?
I had executed many examples and all of them are giving two instances..... one of the site i downloaded and tested sample is available in below link,
http://blog.andrade.inf.br/2010/03/oracle-bpel-11g-correlation-sets.html
Can anyone help me in this,
Regards,
vnraju
[email protected]In case you have multiple instances running, whereas any instance has an unique value started as correlation, when the engine receives the messages for the intermediate receive operation it will be routed without problems to the right instance. In this case, it is not a problem if the engine creates a new composite instance for the intermediate messages.
We have this situation in Production without any problem.
Anyway should be simple to simulate the same situation in your development environment to make sure it works well in your scenario.

Multiple Correlations PI 7.1
Hello Guys!!!
I wonder if anyone has been there:
Developing the IP 7.1
I am using a BPM with 5 correlations, all in Block, all with local correlation;
It happens that the first correlation is performed using FILE Adapter, a receiver and another sender (with success) to reach the second correlation, the data leave the BPM through a Receiver Adapter FILE however, to return to BPM by a Sender Adapter FILE error occurs in the Receiver in BPM, the correlation, and the call is stuck in the queue XBTO.
ps.: I am not using the content conversion File Adapter
Already checked the data from related fields, are ok, the Integration Builder Directory, too everything is ok
After the error occurs which, taken from the Trace, TCODE SXI_MONITOR.
Best Regards.

Correlation or container step in BPM
we had scenario where 3 files will come in batch in sequence
and after validation check in message mapping they had to transfered
to same RFC in that sequence.
File -> Xi-> RFC
Files will come in one shot/batch
batch by batch..
Now my concern is..
With BPM we want to correlate 3 files and then post it to RFC.
3 files will have some comman field/Filename extension...
why we want correlate is that:
- XI should not process any incomplete batch ( like 1-2 files have come)
- XI should differentiate between files of Next coming batch..correlation will help or only container variable ..
Regards
AshutoshHi,
Why do u want to go for BPM is there any specific reason.
Did the functionality of BPM work only for batch files.
If it work for single file then make necessary changes in file adapter mention below.
3 files will come in batch in sequence
We can understand that they will come in batch (group) within that batch they are in sequence.
Correct me if I am wrong.
If so make necessary changes in sender file adapter.
Mention file name as .txt or .xml (depending your format)
Processing mode as Delete.
Processing sequence By Date.
Hope this changes is necessary with out using BPM.
If using BPM is mandatory
With BPM we want to correlate 3 files and then post it to RFC.
3 files will have some comman field/Filename extension...
if u want to use correlation then three files should have common Field.
reward points if helpful.
regards,
pradeep A.
