Regarding database creation

Hi everybody,
I just installed Oracle 9i Personal under Windows 2000 Professional (Service pack 3). I am trying to create a new database by referring to an Oracle documentation.
1) The 1st step asks to set an environment variable ORACLE_SID. I added an environment variable ORACLE_SID = TestDB in System - Properties - Environment variables - System variables. Have I done right?
2) The 2nd step asks to create an initialization parameter file at the default location. For that I have created an initialization file named init$ORACLE_SID.ora in C:\oracle\ora92\database. Have I done right?
3) The 3rd step instructs to connect to the Oracle instance as SYSDBA.
SQLPLUS /nolog
CONNECT SYS/password AS SYSDBA
I was able to start SQLPLUS with the nolog option, but I am not able to execute the CONNECT command becauase I don't know the password for SYSDBA - SYS. What password should I mention?

you can connect to the database by using
SYS/ORACLE AS SYSDBA

Thanks Now I am able to Create a database , but with one error,
When I created a database using DBCA, at the last stage I got this error,
    Database Configuration Assistant : Warning
Enterprise Manager Configuration Failed due to the Following error Listener is not up or database service is not registered with it.  Start the listener & Registered database service & run EM Configuration Assistant again....
But when I checked the listener was up.....
Now what was the problem,  I am able to connect and work through sqlplus,
But  I didnt got the link of EM and when try to create a new connection in sql developer it is giving error ( Status : failure - Test Failed the Network Adapter could not establish the connection )
    Thanks & Regards
Creation of the dbcontrol requires a connection via the listener.  When configuring the dbcontrol as part of database creation, it appears that the dbcontrol creation step runs before the dynamic registration of the databsase with the listener is complete.  Now that the database itself is completed and enough time (really, just a minute or two) has passed to allow the instance to register, use dbca or emca to create the dbcontrol.
Are you able to get a sqlplus connection via the listener (sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl)?  That needs to be the first order of business.

  • Problem during Database Creation of 8.1.7 in Linux7.2

    hello folks,
i am having a problem in creating database of 8.1.7 in Linux7.2 RedHat.
after successful installation,,and after even successfull listener configuration,,
when database creation assistant is creating database; On 82%
    At "Initializing database"
    it comes::
    ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
and if we keep on ignoring it ,then it comes:
    end of file communication channel.
plz help me what i would do,,
    regards.

    Hi,
seems that your oracle database went down. just check if oracle is running or not by using ps command.
if its not running go to $ prompt and start the database either using sys or internal user i.e
    $svrmgrl
    connect internal
    $startup or startup force
    let me know the result.

    hi prem..
you have to create script for database creation..
no problem if ur on 9i.
    let do below step..
step 1. open ur dbca and create script for ur database.
    step 2. create folder
    bdump, udump, cdump ---- d:\oracle\ora90\admin\3 folder 1.bdump, 2. udump, 3.cdump
folder name some ur db_name -----d:\oracle\oradata\"folder name must be some ur db_name"
    step 3. go cmd prompt
    start>run>command [enter]
    cmd>set oracle_sid=dbname
cmd> create password file..... ( see mentioned link in previous post)
cmd>create and start services ( see mentioned link in prev. post)
    cmd>sqlplus/nolog
    sql>conn sys as sysdba
    connected
sql> run all database creation scripts.
    script generate in
    d:\oracle\admin\script\>>>>>>.scritps
Note.>> Drive may be C:,D: whatever according ur setting.
    hope this helps

  • Oracle 9i installation hanging in "Clone Database Creation in Process"

    Hi all,
I have been struggling in installing the 9i in my laptop.
    Here is my setup,
OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 in VMWare
    Database: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.0
When it automatically comes to "Database Configuration Assistant", there are 4 steps.
    Copying Database files
    Initializing Database
    Creating and starting Oracle Instance
    Completing database creation
The 1st 3 steps has been completed and the installation just hangs at the last step when the completion rate is 88%.
Anyone got problem like this ?
Here are the details I have so far for the DBCA during installation process,
    Listener Control complete.
Listener start failed. Listener may already be running.
    Listener configuration complete.
    Default local naming configuration complete.
Oracle Net Services configuration successful. The exit code is 0
Since I am completely new to installing DB, please help me to get rid of this frustration.
    Thanks !
    Regards,
    Chris

    Asif,
IMO, the OP wanted to have steps given to him for the database creation , not the installation of the software. Not sure though since the wording chosen by him is not very clear.
    @OP,
If you are looking for the database creation steps , the best would be to use DBCA! Other than that, you may want to look at the manual way of doing the same, given over here.

That said, if you were looking for the installation instructions, please look at the link given by Asif.

  • About database creation in Peoplesoft.

    Hello..
I am trying to create database by using scripts provided by peoplesoft HRMS9.
FYI, I have successfully install tuxedo 9.1, webserver 9.2, PeopleTools8.49 and HRMS 9. I use Oracle 11gR1 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3
Well, I read on Appendix B in the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.49 Installation for Oracle and some websites.
I have modified createdb10.sql, utlspace.sql. I ran those scripts and database created.
Well, when I ran dbowner.sql I got some error. I run as oracle owner and log as sysdba.
    SQL> CONNECT PS/PS;
    Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
    Connected.
so I ran PUPBLD.SQL first. And then I run dbowner.sql. But the error still occured. I read from this http://psst0101.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/step-by-step-virtual-ps-install-database-creation/
Any suggestion please, because I read in http://gasparotto.blogspot.com/ he did not run pupbld.sql but succeeded.
    Any one have same experience..??

Lastly, you could try to run this script (PUPBLD.SQL) as SYSTEM, not as SYS.thank you, It's work by connect system/manager and run pupbld.sql.
    well, I run select default_tablespace from dba_users where username='PS' I get SYSTEM.
I think these column is important information.. :
    username PS
    temporary_tablespace TEMP
    default_tablespace SYSTEM
    status OPEN
    user_id 28
    password ( blank )
    profile DEFAULT
    so, how about that?

this is specific to the primary keys of each table
has anyone come across this before? any ideas guys?

  • Database creation best practices.

    Hi,
We are planning to setup new database, oracle-10G on Sun and AIX. It is a datawarehose environment.
Can anyone please share me the documents which speaks about best practices to be followed during database creation/setup. I googled and got some douments but not satisfied with them, so thought of posting this query.
    Regards,
    Yoganath.

    Anand,
Thanks for your quick response. I went thru the link, but it seems to be a brief one. I need a sort of crisp/summary document for my presentation, which speaks about:
    1. Initial parameter settings for an datawarehouse to start with, like block_size, db_file_multiblock_read_count, parallel server etc...
    2. Memory parameters, SGA, PGA (say for an sever with 10GB RAM).
    3. How to split tablespaces, like Large, small.
If someone has a just a crisp/outline document which speaks about the above mentioned points, it will be grateful.
    Regards,
YoganathYou could fire up dbca, select the 'data warehouse' template, walk through the steps, and at the end do not select 'create a database' but simply select 'create scripts', then take a look at the results, especially the initialization file. Since you chose a template instead of 'custom database' you won't get a CREATE DATABASE script, but you should still get some stuff genned that will answer a lot of the questions you pose.
You could even go so far as to let dbca create the database. Nothing commits you to actually using that DB. Just examine it to see what you got, then delete it.

  • Database creation scripts from a running RAC

    Hi all
We have a two node Oracle 10g R2 RAC running on SLES 10 SP2 Itanium systems.
We have 4 database instances running on the two nodes.
I need to create database creation scripts for one of the databases. eg. the script should contain all current configuration of the database (i.e i dont want the script which would have been created at the time of creation of the database)
    Is this possible to achieve?
    thanks

    Hi,
You can follow this steps to create yours scripts using notes below:
    Create Database Manually

  • Silent database creation won't configure OEM

    Hi All,
    Windows Vista 64-bit Oracle 11.1.0.7
I am doing a silent creation of the database which creates the database fine but the OEM - Web front end is not created. I have run netca to create a listener before database creation. Here is my exact syntax I am using from the command prompt:
dbca -silent -sysPassword oracle -systemPassword oracle -continueOnNonFatalErrors true -gdbName 11GORA01 -createDatabase -templateName Test11g -emConfiguration LOCAL -dbsnmpPassword oracle -sysmanPassword oracle
If I then use dbca to try & configure the database options there is an error saying there is no appropriate listener found. There is one thing I did notice that when I did lsnrctl status the database name was in lower case and using the dbca the message 'Configure additional components for database "11GORA01" - is in upper case. Not sure if this is the problem.
    Any help would be fantastic
    Thanks
    Vic

    Hi,
Silent database creation won't configure OEM
AFAIK, NO you have to configure separately.

  • RH2.1AS FireWire OCFS database creation issue

I have 2 nodes configure with firewire device and ocfs. Firewire device mounted and oracm started on both node. Database creation looks fine from alert log file. When I try to startup from either node I got ora-0439: feature not enabled: Real Application Clusters. Is any one running into the same problem or just missing some step from my end?
    Garry

I find the option 'Oracle9i Real Application Clusters' under Enterprise Edition Options. As long as OCM is running, I don't know why you wouldn't see it...
Regarding gsd and srvctl: as far as I know they weren't deprecated or anything with 9.2.0.3. If there's something else you're supposed to use to start and stop nodes and/or the whole cluster I'd be interested to hear about it. Anyway, gsd and srvctl have been working fine, even after patching to 9.2.0.3.
For what it's worth, we gave up on OCFS (for now). We're using RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 Developer's Edition, and the kernel update (2.4.20) from www.ocfs.org. We spent a lot of time trying to get OCFS 1.0.8 to work but were never fully successful. Most of the time we couldn't run OCM on more than one node. Occasionally it worked, but then Oracle would report strange IO errors at the system level. After we switched to using raw devices on the shared firewire drive everything worked perfectly. We're going to wait and see what further OCFS development brings...

  • LiveCache Installation (Database creation) problems

    We are trying to install liveCache 7.6.29 (SCM 5.0 SR2), during the database creation phase we are encountering the below error;

    Hi Thilaka,
hm, why are you now askig the forum when you've direct email contact with me?
Anyway, this really should be handled over OSS...
    Just fyi:
It seems that SAPINST is trying to issue the following command:
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,
Can you try and see if you can issue it from the commandline on your machine (with the same user, i.e. probably root)? Please do not forget to add the password of the ql1adm, which is either not visible in the above command or forgotten (by SAPINST):
    /sapdb/programs/bin/dbmcli -n ql1ap01.cardinalhealth.net -R /sapdb/QL1/db db_create QL1 CONTROL,******** ql1adm,<b><password></b>
After issueing this, please try to continue using SAPINST (and please update the OSS message accordingly).
    Regards,
    Roland
