Regarding email attachement while running a background job

Dear Experts,
When i am running a background job for any ALV report (standard or custom report) <b>automatically</b> the output is going to an e-mail address as a HTML file attachment. I want to change it to EXCEL file attachment.
Please help me on this issue..

Thank you for your reply. I am not using any code for sending the mail to the recipient E-mail address, system is taking care automatically.
Few settings were done in SCOT transaction from basis, but no where they mentioned file type is .HTM.
From my end i have done the following steps.
1. go to SM36, give a job name.
2. press on step push button , give the ABAP program name ( any ALV program, i mean standard report or Z report), give the variant and save.
3. Come back . press on Spool list recipient push button give the e-mail address, press copy button on the pop up window.
4. press on start condition button , press on Immediate option and save.
5. again press on Save button in the screen.
now here job will be scheduled immediately, go to SM37 check your job status, if it is completed, automatically system is sending an e-mail with the ".HTM" attachment file output to the recipient e-mail address.
i am not doing any coding part here.
my concern is system should send the e-mail with ".XLS" file output attachment.
please advise on this.

Have you tried to set the format properties?
Execute in Background->Properties Button->Format.

ABAP program to run in Background job

Hi,
We have a custumized program (SO Creation) calling some functions (like: WS_QUERY, WS_UPLOAD, WS_DOWNLOAD, CREATE_TEXT and CALL TRANSACTION VA01) and can only run thru dialog process (foreground). Is it possible to convert it to something that can run thru background job?

Unfortunately cl_gui_frontend_services will not work in background.
Please have a look at following information about cl_gui_frontend_services :

To Use this, you should be bit familier with OO ABAP Concepts. So I will suggest you to go through with OO concepts of ABAP. It will be of great help to you.

How to read the error logs after running the background jobs. In our scenarion we are running the COHV transaction to release the production orders in background. But we are not finding the error logs after background job. We would like to read the error logs and correct for further processing.

you can check the back ground jobs defined by any user in SM37 and where you can see the spool and job logs as well.

Office intergration - run as background job

Hi,
I have a word template merged with data using "Desktop Office Integration".
Currently word template will be opened before data merging is done.
Is it possible to run as background job, which word template can merge with data in backend? If possible, how should i work on it?

Ftp_connect/ running at background job

Hi,
When I try to run the FTP_CONNECT FM in background,
the ftp server is not connected throwing an error message ''Attempt to set up connection to <ftpserver> failed''.
I am using the RFC destination SAPFTPA and still it is not working!
My program was successfully executing in fore ground with SAPFTP.
Please help.

Report program when run in background job getting cancelled immediately

Hi
When i run a program in foreground i am able to see the output. But when run in background not able to run the job successfully. The job is getting cancelled immediately.
I am using the below function module for output display. Should i need to pass any parameters in the below function module so that i can run the program in background successfully.

      EXPORTING

Hi Rajani.
ALV require the DRYPOR(screen) for display but incase you run in back ground which have to write to spool but in spool we can only write in format of LIST REPORT not inter-active report like ALV. That why
system cancelled your process immediately.

Field not getting updated in BDC while running in background

Hi Friends,
I'm executing a BDC transaction to update the Alternate Tax Classification (VBAK_TAXK1) field in Sales Order. I'm passing value 1 to the field and then saving it directly. While running the BDC in background, the field is not getting updated. On the other hand i checked it running in foreground, the field got updated without any error message.
Can anybody help me advicing why the field is not getting updated in background?

Hi ,
Check the the log if you are using a session method and if call transaction then capture the messages for the same,
Because in the foreground the BDC will update the records even if there is a warning message nut in background it will not update. So check the data which you are inserting and try avoid the warning messages also so that it can run smoothly in backfround.

Can we run in Background job which can pick a file from front end ?

I would like to run a report in Background job , for this i need to pick a file from front end services(Local drive or share folder)
Is there any alternate FM=>GUI_UPLOAD to upload data from front end services or any other solution for this?
I am getting error=> "No batch" and " Cannot perform frontend function in batch input mode"

Hello Prasad,
IF you keep your file on a shared folder on your front end, you can access it via OPEN DATASET if your application server has access to that path.
You can test it out by asking Basis to try and access your front end file from the app server itself.

Force Dialog in ATP when run in Background Job

Hi gurus,
Can we set the ATP to always show even if in Background Job? I have a requirement to run a program in background job and set the confirmed qty to 0. In foreground the process is ok (the ATP screen shows up so my BDC is correct). But when I run the program in background, I have an error in my BDC because the screen for the ATP does not show up.

Unmount the ZFS filesystem (either /zones or /zones/test) and check the perms on the directory that it's mounted on.

Can ABAP proxy to consume WSDL file be run as background job for every10min

I have a requirement where I need to build an interface which gatheru2019s the purchase order details and send to external third party software in their required format (as an XML file).
So I should be the first point of contact and should trigger the interface each time a purchase order is generated.
So I am thinking that I should develop a background job for every 10 minutes which will look for new purchase orders and gathers the information of the purchase orders and send them to external third party software in their required format.
I have gone through all the SAP forums and e-Learning but still I have confusion in regards to how is it possible technically? Can some one guide me with some information on the same.
I have a little bit of confusion and want to know few things.
1)     Should I create a web service or should I consume a web service?
2)     If I need to consume a web service, then can I write an ABAP proxy to be run in background fro evry 10 minutes? I mean can we run ABAP proxy as a batch job in the background?
3)     Is there a difference between consuming an XML file and WSDL File?
Any Help will be highly appreciated.

There are two options (as I know) to generate XML file.
1. Use XML TRANSFORMATION to get the XML string based your TRANSFORMATION. You can input your data and get back the XML string. Download this string to a file
Test XML generation program is:
types: begin of ty_data,

DATA: itab TYPE standard table of ty_Data,
      la_data like line of itab,
      xmlstr TYPE string.
DO 3 TIMES.
la_data-num = sy-index.
APPEND la_data TO itab.

SOURCE table = itab
RESULT XML xmlstr.
CALL FUNCTION 'DISPLAY_XML_STRING'
EXPORTING xml_string = xmlstr.
My ZTEST_NP1 transformation. To create a transformation, click on the transformation in the "CALL TRANSFORMATION ztest_np1" statement. Select Simple transformation type.

Different result when running as background job

Hi,
We got a program which has a selection screen with a couple of select-options.
When we start this programm with a specified variant, it proceeds to a result screen. If we click back now (to the selection-screen) and run the programm with the exactly same settings again, one select-option is getting ignored and therefore we get incorrect results.
This happens only, if you go back from the result screen and excecute it again from the selection screen or if we start it as a background job.
If you exit the programm completely and restart it, the results are correct again.
It makes no sense to post any code snippets here, since the program is very complex. I just can't imagine any reason, why the select-option is sometimes getting ignored.
Does anyone have an idea?

oh well it DOES explain it.
just think of following select:
Select *
from vbap
into ls_vbap
where vbeln not in lr_vbeln.
if lr_vbeln is not cleard you will run into problems maybe.
anyway, may it be that somewhere in coding you are manually modifying your select option?
It´s just an internal table of type range, so have a look there.

Function Module to run as Background Job

Hi All
Could anyone tell how can i run a RFC function module as Background job,
Right now, one external application calling this RFC FM, when this is getting executed, i can see a dialog process is occupied in SM50. Now o avoid this, i want when external application calls this RFC FM, it should get executed as a background job in SM50.

Normally, we can call an RFC in background task as below:
CALL FUNCTION func IN BACKGROUND TASK
                     [DESTINATION dest]
                     parameter_list
                     [AS SEPARATE UNIT].
But I am not sure whether your external application can call this RFC in background. But you can create an another RFC and inside call this RFC in background.
Then call the new RFC so that it will internally call the required RFC in background and Immediately after it will be closed.

How to run long background jobs in ADF applications

Hi,
I'm looking for some guidance on how to run an asynchronous job within an ADF application with proper progress notification in the current page.
Let's assume we have some long running task (e.g. generating notification emails from a bunch of rows in my view object and send them) with the corresponding classes implemented in the DataModel as part of the business logic (e.g. a class that sends a mail to a given recipient).
Let's assume all the relevant methods can be exposed in the appmodule's client interface so they can be invoked from the ViewController if needed.
In my jspx page I have implemented the standard af:poll+af:progressIndicator mechanism to give feedback about the running task, backed by a custom BoundedRangeModel
with methods getValue() and getMaximum(). This works.
However, all the examples I've found on the net are very very simplistic and only deal with simple counters or countdowns.
But how to actually implement the whole mechanism in a real life scenario? How do I run the job itself and make it give feedback to my BoundedRangeModel class
(which in turn is used by the progressIndicator on the page)?
Is there a recommended way to do this within ADF apps? I've tried to search something about asynchronous method execution in ADF but there seems to be nothing out there.
Do I need to use standard Java techniques such as a separate Thread running a Runnable worker? Should I use an observer/observable pattern to notify BoundedRangeModel
and update its internal variables (current value and maximum)? Would this work across a Datacontrol interface?
Is anything of this allowed within the ADF framework or I'm just gonna break the whole framework model because do-it-yourself concurrent programming isn't allowed in a multithreaded pooled environment?
Some explanation about the current recommended best practices and/or some practical examples or articles about that would be great.
(BTW: I'm using version 11.1.1.2.0 and yes, I've checked the contextual events thing too, but that's just an inter-page communication mechanism so it has has nothing to do with what I need to do.)

Every thread you start, add a HashMap<String, String> to this hashmap with the id of the username/session/whatever (must be bound to the user, which starts the thread). This added HashMap<String, String> should be used by your thread to put some status-information into. Now you can try to bind this info to your progressBar.
I dont know if this will work, it is just an idea ;-)

But while running in the background it is showing fatal error .

Because there is no GUI to communicate while your program is running in background.
