Regarding ESS MSS in sap hr

Dear Experts,
The client has Indian Payroll and Organization Management implemented in R/3.Now the client wants to go for ESS and MSS module.I am new to the ESS MSS module. As a demo I have asked to configure it in IDES.Beofre configuring it in IDES does EP consultant have any role in that. Please tell me what role does EP consultant have and in which phases?. What are the dependencies of SAP HR consultant on EP consultant and ABAP Consultant
Also to start my configuration in ESS MSS please guide me from where to begin with.In case if u have any configuration documents,Please share. Does the SAP Press book on ESS MSS helps?. Where can I find relevant material for this configuration.
Thanks In advance

Hi,
Yes, EP consultant and ABAP consultant require for bit configuration.
SAP Press book will help upto certain but I would suggest refer SCN document to configure ESS and MSS.
Initial steps briefly:
1. Activate the business functions ( HCM_ESS_WDA_1 and HCM_MSS_WDA_1 if EhP5 using t code - SFW5.
2. Active the services ( Called as application) using T Code SICF. Here, EP consultant may require. But you can also do the same.
3. View the standard application (services) using test service option.
4. If you want to use Launch pad then configure ESS Role using LPD_CUST.
5. Copy standard ESS menu to ZESS and assign to application HR*ESS*MENU using SE80.
Here, you will require ABAPer.
6. Assign Portal ESS and MSS role to user.
7. Also assign SAP*ESS*EMPLOYEE role to ECC user using SU01/PFCG.
This are the major steps to start basic ESS and MSS application. Further you have to configure application configuration.
Hope this will help. Please let me know further details required.
Thanks,
Ketul

    ->Personal Information
    ->Travel management
    ->Corporate Inf
    ->Life & Work Events

    Reply ASAP.
    Regards
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
There is no need to develop iViews for ESS. ESS comes with all iViews, pages, and roles provided by SAP. All you need to do is assign the ESS role to the end user.
    Firstly answer these questions:-
    1) Why do you need to develop WebDynpro iViews for ESS?
    2) Have you already downloaded ESS Business Package and using it?
    3) Have you got the NWDI installed?
    4) Have you got NetWeaver Developer Studio installed?
If you can manage to answer these questions clearly, I hope someone might be able to help you?
Assign Points if you find this helpful!!!
    Kind Regards,

  • Only Appraisals of year 2010 are shown on ESS, MSS in SAP Portal

    Hi,
I have a problem on my enterprise Portal. I have 2 iview's configured which uses an standard WebDynrpo Abap application of ESS and MSS to show "Employee Documents". The problem is that there are only shown "Employee Documents" of year 2010, but not of year 2011. We have some appraisals on status "In course" and "clompleted" for this year, but these don't appears.
The configuration of the 2 iview's are the following:
    Iview name: Appraisals
    Application name: HAP_START_PAGE_POWL_UI_ESS
    Configuration name: HAP_START_PG_POW_ESS_AC
    Platform: Web Dynpro for ABAP
    Iview name: Team Appraisals
    Application name: HAP_START_PAGE_POWL_UI_MSS
    Configuration name: HAP_START_PG_POW_MSS_AC
    Platform: Web Dynpro for ABAP
Anybody knows where should I modify date range, or configuration to be shown all "Employee Documents"?
    Thanks in advance.
    Javier

    Hi,
Finally I cleaned cache of applications OSA-POWL-ESS and OSA-POWL-MSS, whith report POWL_D01. After I modified queries for these applications on transaction POWL_QUERY (OSA_MSS_IN_PLANNING, OSA_MSS_IN_PROCESS, etc).
With this, I solved the problem!

  • SAP ESS/MSS Functional Guide

    Hello Experts,
I am new to ESS/MSS, so can anyone provide me with a proper Functional & Technical guide on ESS/MSS, also it would be great if you all provide me with a specific configuration guide on installing ESS/MSS. I have already searched some forums on this, but there was no concrete doc available.
I already have ESS / MSS Configuration (SAP Best Practices for SAP HCM V2.600) (N06) Building Block Configuration Guide & ESS HELP CAESS .
But if you have something more on this then please share.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amit Naik

    Hi
Maybe you can follow the following steps :
1.you need to identify what is your requirement for the Employee and the Manager.
    2. you need to sit with your portal consultant to check out what views are available for the functionality required.
    3. You need to create a ess user (your basis consultant can help you to do that by running hruser)
    4. you can login onto the portal and check out whether the standard views have what you require or is there some change required.
    4. they you can go to the r/3 system and and use transaction simg_sport for getting to mss configuration quickly.
    5. Ess configuration you will find at under spro-> personnel management - > employee self service- > service specific settings...
A guide to configure will be very generic and may not directly help. the documentation against each spro node is quite helpful. do write for any other specifics.
    all the best.

  • SAP ESS/MSS Config required

    Hi All,
Can anyone send me the documentation on configuration of ESS/MSS in SAP. And I want to know from functional side, what would be our roles and responsibilities with respect to the implementation of ESS/MSS.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Vasu.

    Hi Vasu,
As Functional Consultants, we make the customizing in two ways:
    - General settings: to define the links to ESS-MSS apps from homepage and its behaviour
    - Specific settings: to define the behaviour of ESS-MSS applications, i mean define valid subtypes for infotypes from Personal Information, the process for leave time request, the salary statement form to display, who's who fields and grouping, etc...
Also, depending on the size, requirements and technical scope of your project, you may do some tasks as a Portal Consultant, i mean define Roles and User Groups, look & feel basical activities & any other Portal functional config.
Usually in a middle or big-size project there is an expert Portal Consultant in the team who make this job (and also technical tasks). But again, that depends on your project.
    A good guide for ESS-MSS:

    Kind regards in your implementations!

  • System Landscape settings for EP connecting to SAP Webdisp to ess/mss

We have external facing portal . for reverse proxy we are using sap webdispatcher.
    sapwebdispatcher->ep->sapwebdispatcher--->HCM(ess/mss)
EP connects to HCM(ess/mss) via sap webdispatcher.
What should be my system landscape defination in Portal and JCo destinations for webdynpro where ep and webdynpro is connecting to backend(ess/mss) via sap webdispatcher.
My guess is instead of message server I should point to sap webdispatcher url then what should be my port for connectors,ITS settings and WebAS settings in system landscape.
Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Something like that, with Firewalls and additional web dispatcher for external access to HCM:
    FW                   FW
    FW sapwebdispatcher1-FW-->ep--->sapwebdispatcher3--->HCM(ess/mss)
    FW                   FW            ^
    FW                   FW            |
    FW sapwebdispatcher2-FW----------->|
    FW                   FW
The reason is that EP iview with ITS content requires browser to have direct visibility of ITS backend. You can see it if you trace HTTP requests.
    Regarding system definition in PCD:
Michael is correct about Connector part - you can do direct HCM.
The more important issue is what you will put in "ITS Connection" (and SAP Web AS Connection). It is important to put public hotname/URL of sapwebdispatcher2, otherwise external web browser will have issues.
Another thing: no protocol mix for external URLs. If your EP is accessed via HTTPS, you will have to put HTTPS in ITS connector definition. Otherwise users will see browser warnings. You can do SSL termination on web dispatchers if you want and use HTTP from DMZ web dispatchers, but definition of external URLs should be protocol consistent.

  • Role Menu for ESS (WDA) in SAP NWBC

    Dear experts,
I am implementing ESS&MSS using SAP NWBC. For this use the following documentation:
Configuration of the Role Menu for ESS (WDA) in SAP NWBC - SAP Documentation
SAP delivers the composite role SAP_EMPLOYEE_ESS_WDA_2.
    1. Call up transaction PFCG and create or copy your customer-specific role based on the standard shipped composite role for ESS (WDA), SAP_EMPLOYEE_ESS_WDA_2 in the customer name space (Z_*.
I have copied this role with the singles roles
My first question: Should modify my composite role for add a new folder that content two applications WDA customer or this should do it in the single role ? How Can do it?
    My second question:
What I dont can display the folder in top screen "Employee Self-Service"---"Employee Self-Service XX"---"Employee Self-Service2"(See Image leff)
    Thanks

    Hi Armin,
For NWBC you must place transactions under the second folder down (or at least this is how its works for NWBC for ERP roles). Standard NWBC roles have 'Role menu' as top folder and then (generally) one main folder under that - like 'Purchasing'. Transactions should go under this folder or under subsequent sub-folder.
There are additional parameters using right click 'Details for Net Weaver Business Client' under PFCG also - but assume your documentation has explained this to you.

    Craig

  • ESS/MSS limit of concurrent users

    Hi,
I have to implemantation the ESS/MSS in sap with SOA. I would like to know : How many users will be accessing ESS at the same time? In particular, how many should be the concurrent users ( to do the same activity ) will be accessing ESS , to ensure the  server response doesn't deteriorate? ( Side web frontend )
    Thanks a lot,
    Silvia Sacchi

    hi.
i tried to draw a picture with a typical ess scenario. from the browser to the abap backend.
it's not too sharp but i think you will see what i mean.
    [ESS Scenario|http://picasaweb.google.at/lh/photo/bHbfx56fo1y3mfo6w2e_Tw?feat=directlink]
You see that you need lots of infrastructure. All parts need - more or less - resources. If there is heavy load you need more cpu and ram (for example adding more server processes on the as java of the portal) but you also have to configure the web dispatchers, the as java, the as abap (icm). Thats the architecture for the ess service. It doesn't help when asking "how many people can call a time sheet on abap". you have to look at all components...
If i were you and i do not know lots about the load i would start conventional (not completely oversized). It's a process to get a well performing system. You always have to make corrections when running productive. thats the job we love :o)))
    regards, martin

  • ESS/MSS Prerequisites

    Hi all,
I am planning to learn ESS/MSS. I dont have any idea about HR. Is it possible to start ESS/MSS without having any knowledge of HR or what part of HR need to be know?
    With kind Regards,
    RK

ESS and MSS are business packages which are preconfigured as per the Employees and the Managers needs in an organization.
You got to download these business packages from https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/contentportfolio
Once you download it, you have to deploy the same on the portal. Once deployed, you have to apply the ESS and MSS roles to the users.
Then you can find, the various iviews and to configure these if you have HR knowledge, you can handle them in a better way.

  • ESS / MSS package compatibility

    Dear Folks,
I have a question regarding ESS/MSS business package compatibility.
We are currently on R/3 4.7 so I loaded 'BPESS46C504_0-20000613' business package for ESS on our portals.
Now I want to load MSS business package; I am not sure which MSS version should be loaded. Should I use MSS 50.4 or MSS 60.1 (both the packages support R/3 4.7). Will there be any compatibility issues?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Deepak

    Hi Deepak,
MSS60.1 is not Web Dynpro based. Web Dynpro based business packages cannt be run against R/3 Enterprise. 60.1 is not based on Web Dynpro. It is based on Java iViews. Please go to
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/developerareas/contentportfolio
    for more information.
60.2 is based on Web Dynpro and this one is not fully developed(and you cannt use it for R/3 4.7), you can use 60.1 in your case.
ESS and MSS both are seperate so no compatibility issues.
    Thanks
