I am new to BW.Can you people tell me in which situation or in which scenario we will go for Flat file extraction.

Regarding flat file load to DSO...

Hi Experts,
I am trying to load transaction data from flat file to DSO in BI7.0 that comprises two characteristics and one keyfigure. The characteristics type is char and keyfigure's type is int. Till PSA, data is fine. In transformation, I have just done one-to-one mapping with source field and target field, but while executing DTP, the error popped up as follows,
Data package 1:Errors during processing
Extraction completed, processing termination
Please help. I tried various combinations, but not able to schedule. Valuable answers would be awarded remarkably.

Hi there...
Here are some ideas to Ur problem
Assuming that u defined info objects correctly, length and types... and u mapped transformations correctly
And ur data in flat file is absolutely correct...
Of course very common but suggestible is plz check the data lengths in flat file and defined length of the info object.. If yes
Come to Data source and check the settings for the flat file ,separater and escape sign and rows to ignored..and check the data preview...
Plz compare the data in PSA and Flat file... plz do this very carefully... If yes...
Go to data source and at the FIELDS tab and check whether u assigned info objects correctly...if yes...
Check the conversion routines in the same screen of the tab FIELDS.. if for key figure u see PER16.. Remove it and try to load to PSA and do load the cube..

I am trying to load a hierarchy through a flat file and followed the SDN blog mentioned below.

This is Thilak. For loading Data To hierarchy from flat file u should follow the below steps.
1. Create info objects as per ur hierarchy structure. i.e., ZH_CNO( for cno), ZH_SRGN (for region) .
2. find the highest node level info object. i.e., ZH_CNO.
3. go to that info object (highest node level info object) and select "with hierarchy" chk box.
4. click on " MAINTAIN HIERARCHY" button and move the external characteristics info objects to rt. side pannel.i.e., ZH_SRGN.
(Hint : other than first and last node level characteristics)
5. Activate the info object.
6. Create the info source (ZH_IS) of " DIrect Update Type".
7. Assign Hierarchy Data source( ZH_CNO_HIER) to that info source.
8. Schedule the info package to load the hierachy data from flat file.

Regarding Upload of Goods Issue data from flat file

Hi,
i am working with interface for Goods Issue
The following fields are provided in the flat file: BLDAT , BUDAT ,BWARTWE , WERKS and LGORT.
We also have to maintain Internal Order number in SAP which is not provided in the flat file ; how to go about it?
I have a doubt: since item level data is not provided in the flat file ; how that data will be captured ?
Should I go for BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE or write a BDC ?

You can only do a goods issue against a delivery. I dont understand how you can Issue goods using a flat file.you will have to check with your functional consultant.

Query regarding Import Dimensions using Flat File in EPMA

Hi All,
I am trying to import dimensions and Dimension properties using a flat text file to the master dimension library. If I try to include any properties (HFM) in the !Members Section, I am getting an error "Input Line ... does not have the expected format of 1 columns". But if I remove the properties and just build the members and hierarchies without any properties definition, I am able to succeed. Can someone guide me on what I might be missing with regards to member properties? Below is the format of the input text file.

Client information like ( We need to delete First 5 rows) and then insert into SQL Table . please suggest me how to develope the package..

You need to use a script task to read file one by one and remove the first 5 rows from the file. The file name/path can be stored as a variable and read it from the script code. Insert the script task inside the foreach loop container just before importing
the file.

Regarding ssis - Matching flat files

Hi,
1. I have one scenario like....
We have 8 flat files in one folder and 5 flat files in another folder
In that we have 5 matching files in those 2 folders...
Now we need to load that matching 5 files into one destination..How???

Explain matching files.
Does that mean files with same name and extension? Or does it mean only internal data is same with different names?

Regarding the format of Flat file?

Hi frndz,
I have a requirement wherein i should create a flat file with around 20 characters and a time characteristic as Fiscal year variant. Which should be loaded to master data table.
So can anyone give me the idea about
1) How to create the flat file,Which include Fiscal year variant as a column in the file?
2) What should be the order of the columns in the flat file?
3) What are the other things that i should keep in mind while creating the flat file?

One more imp thing is that , if you are seperating the fields by , then in the infopackage , external tab , we need to maintain as seperator as " , " or if you are seperating the fields by " ;" , then then in the infopackage , external tab , we need to maintain as seperator as " ; " .And also we need to put 1 for the no of header rows to be ignored . And maintain Escape sign as ' " ' or "*" .

Regarding number of entries in a flat file

    We are trying to uplaod F-02 Tcode, for GL Upload program. If the flat file contains less than 1000 records its working fine.But if it conains more than 1000 records, it showing a error message 'Maximum no of 999 records are allowed'. What might the mistake and pls suggest me how to resolve the problem.

I think ur uploading only 1 document at a time. if its right ....
each document can include max number of line item are 999.
check any uses exit or check with ur fun ppl to increase this line items by configaration.

Loading multiple flat file at a time.

hi experts,
I am having 15 flat files with same data structure.so how do i load all the fileswith out creating 15 info packges .
( say all the files are on the desktop.)
I had seen the option that ABAP code an be written in info package in extraction tab.

You can write dynamic code using ABAP if your number of flat files are not fixed...but if you have to 15 flat files always just creating multiple infopackages.
For code, you have to store file names/name pattern in some table and reading it at run time. You can use function modules starting with BAPI_IPAK* to create/change/start template IP like BAPI_IPAK_START. You can set IP parameters at run time using FM RSBATCH_MAINTAIN_PAR_SETTINGS.

after i upload data from a flat file to the hierarchy, i get a error message "Please select a valid info object" am loading data using PSA, having activated all external chars still get the problem..some help on this please..

there is o relation of infoobject name in flat file and infoobjet name at BW side.
please check with the object in the BW and their lengths and type of the object and check your flat file weather u have the same type there,
now check the sequence of the objects in the transfer rules and activate them.
there u go.

Flat file may come from any systems, it may be live system or legacy system.
Legacy system- is something like old, or past one. If you talk about SAP , then older versions of SAP can be called as a legacy system.
So it may be a file system, or any system which is old version but it doesnot mean it is not in use,

SSIS Flat File Source not populating varchar column

I have SSIS package that imports flat files with column separator | from "Flat File Source" into the database trough "OLE DB Destination".
For one of the columns (file contains UIDs in curly brackets) destination column is varchar(250) null-able, when "Retain nulls" is set to true complete data have been imported, but when "Retain nulls" is set to false beside fact that in
the file data is not null and it is not empty string it is not imported and in the destination column is empty string.
I know that this "Retain nulls" applies to the columns that contains NULLs but this is not the case.
If someone have experience with such issue please help.

From your statement it looks like when you have curly brackets it skips the value and inserts nulls instead. And that may be the reason why its working fine when you change retain null value.
I would suggest
Make your setting "retain null" to true and load the flat file, then check what happens to the values having curly braces (is there any value or null) , if there is value we need to check for that(please share a sample file). And if it having null
instead of "{value}", I would suggest to put a script task to remove { from your flat file and then try load the data.
