Regarding fronend installation

Hii guyz
I installed ECC 6.0 on a windows 2003 server. I want to access my server from my laptop and installed sap 6.40 front end from my DVD1. Anyway im not understanding how i should connect to my server from my laptop. Do i need to do any settings in my laptop?
plzz zhelp me

Hi,
I hope you have installed SAPGUI already which should say in your desktp "SAP Logon 640. double click and systems tab. >>> click user-defined>>>> in the application server: type either hostname or ip address of sap server.
System id: your SID
System number: maybe 00 (default)
click "add and logon".
This only will work if your laptop and sap server is in same network. meaning, it will not work if your system is in office and you laptop is in home unless you have VPN connection.
I hope this will solve your problem.
Thanks,

  • Question regarding the installation of a J2EE 6.40 Add-in

    Hi all,
I would like to install a J2EE engine on a test instance of ECC 5.0 and have a few questions regarding the installation...
Do I have to use the MASTER CD to first install the J2EE engine (Support Package 0) and then apply the latest support packages found on the SAP Marketplace?
Or should be able to directly install the J2EE Add-In by using the latest support packages found on the SAP Marketplace?
    Best regards,
    Xavier Vermaut

    Thanks Bhavik for your reply,
That's what I actually thought but I get the following problem... Here's what I wrote into my customer message... I am still waiting for an answer and would like to get this solved ASAP
    Dear SAP,
We would like to install the J2EE 6.40 Add-In on our ECC 5.0 instance
(TST) but get the following error message at the very beginning of the
    installation
    > Cannot find an installed ABAP system, which is a prerequisite for a
    > J2EE Add-In installation. The installation cannot continue.
We checked the installation logs (sapinst_dev.log) and found the
    following :
    > Found these instances:
    > sid: MGR, number: 00, name: DVEBMGS00, host: erpqs1a
    > sid: TST, number: 10, name: DVEBMGS10, host: erpqs1a
Why does the installation say that it can not find any ABAP systems when
having previously found the 2 different instances running on this
    server?
Would this problem be related to the fact that we have two instances on
    this server?
Please find hereunder the way we performed this installation :
    01) Download of the 4 different parts of SAP J2EE Engine 6.40 SP 10
         (Solaris 10 - Oracle)
         Part I   : SAPINST10_0-20000121.SAR         (Solaris 64)

Part IV  : J2EERT10_0-10001982.SAR          (OS Independant)
    02) Extract these 4 archives into /install/J2EE_640
    03) Check Java Version and Environment Variables
    04) Check Solaris Pre-Requisites
    05) Adapt "product.xml" as specified in OSS Note 697535 (IGS)

    08) Move to the Installation directory

    09) ./sapinst

Any idea how to get this solved?

    Hi Shaik,
Follow these steps while installing XI:
    1. Windows server or advanced server with latest service patch.
    2. IE 6.0 with latest service patch
    3. Install Microsoft office and winzip, acrobat
    4. Install JDK with version 1.4.2_03 or above with the corresponding JVM
    5. Install the SAP GUI 6.20
    6. Make sure that you have hard disk space of 10 GB in C drive and 50 GB in the installation drive.
    7. Make sure the virtual memory is between 512 and 1594 or above for the installation drive.
    8. Copy the dumps of following DVDs into the installation drive.
    • Installation Master DVD
    • Installation Export
    • Additonal Components for SAP BW/SAP XI,SAP MI,SAP KW
    • SAP Web As Java
    9. Start the installation from the DVD dump Installation Master DVD.
    10. When installing the ABAP Database the SID of the oracle default database should be different the ABAP database SID.
U can go through the Installtion Guides for Installing XI from http://service.sap.com/instguides (SR1 installation)
u can also refer to service.sap.com/platforms to see the available platform on which XI can be installed. ( Windows/linux/UNIX)
or you can even go through this weblog which clearly talks to you about XI installation
    <a href="/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/05/31/my-experience-with-xi-installation-on-fedora-core-3-linux installation</a>
In addition to this installation guide you also need to download the XI configuration guide which is very useful for technical configurations of various adapters and XI system.
At the same place you will also get the XI configuration guide e.g XI30ConfigGuideSPS11.pdf.
U can also download SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0 SR1 Installtion Guide from the articles scetion.
    ABOUT XI :
If it’s just that you wanted to know more about sap xi....then the information below should definitely help you.
The best way to learn XI would be to make the maximum use of XI from its forums, weblogs, presentations, etc in SDN.
First I thought I will just give u the basic steps involved in doing any scenario in XI. This is very essential for a beginner.
First of all you would need to define your product, software component, business system and configure the technical landscape in the sld.
You then go on to create the objects in the repository, you import your software component here and then begin your design steps. To import your RFCs n Idocs if you require any before proceeding.
Then under the name space which you want, you go on to define your data types, message types and message interfaces.
Then you do your message mappings where you specify your source and target message types and the relation between them, then you do your interface mapping. If you are using a BPM, you do the integration process.
Once you have this done, you will have to move to the directory, here is where you define how you use the objects and how you configure them to work as a scenario.
You assign your business system to the configuration scenario which you have created, and create the communication channels. Then you go on to configure the receiver determination, interface determination, and the sender and receiver agreements. Once you’re done you will have make sure you activate your objects. The exact parameters steps depend on what kind of scenario you are implementing.
You can use sxmb moni or the runtime workbench to monitor the entire scenario which you have done.
Also I would suggest this link on SAP help for any info that you want on XI,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
Further, this thread deals with everything that is needed for a starter on XI. Do check them out,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
    /message/527697#527697 [original link is broken]
And after you are done with the documentation probably you can go through this scenario,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
Also check the following threads which might help you a little more,
    Learning XI
    XI 3.0 Training
In simple words regarding learning XI, there is an abundance of information on SDN and help.sap.com…. So I think it will be better for you to search information there rather than me just providing you links….which will just go on and on and on….so I felt it is better for you to go and search so that not only you get information on SAP XI but also explore SDN in its real sense.

  • Query with regards to installation of Infinity fol...

Following my home move my infinity installation differed from my previous address and I was generally disappointed with the engineer. The RJ11 (think thats the name of the cable) that runs from my openreach modem to the master socket is connected to the side of the master socket faceplate rather than the simply putting the cable into the front. This differed to my previous address where I simply plugged the RJ11 cable into the master socket.
Now the other end of the RJ11 runs into my bedroom upstairs as this is where I wanted my homehub to be. However I have a few gripes with what the engiineer did. Firstly he left me around 5 metres short and secondly didn't even bother to drill through any walls. So the cable is between the crack of the door which of course means I couldn't shut my bedroom door. Just to explain, the RJ11 cable from my master socket runs into a white small box which allows another RJ11 to be connected on the other end.
The other day I lost connection and knew the cause was this extended RJ11 cable as my connection was fine if I plugged the RJ11, Modem, Hub directly into the RJ11 port on the front of my master socket. The cause was the tiny blue cable had snapped off the small white box that extends into my bedroom. Thankfully it was easy to fix myself. However when I did so my speed went from 45mbps to 67mbps! This to me suggests the cable was incorrectly connected.
My last question is why if I connect the RJ11, Modem, Hub directly into the front of my master socket is the speed around 20-30mbps slower than if I use the RJ11 that is connected to the side of the master socket?
Sorry I have one more question. Im still using the Home Hub 4 and was expecting BT to send me a Home Hub 5. I thought following a home move my contract was renewed which mean't I automatically qualified for a new home hub?
If anyone is confused by my installation I can upload some pics.

    Hi DJM,
It does sound like a bit of a strange set up. I can take a look at this for you. Please send me in your details using the "Contact The Mods" link found in my profile.
With regards to the Hub 4 a home move order would renew your current package for the further 12 months and would not include the Hub 5.

    Hello,
As far as I know it's not possible to have multiple jes5 instances on a single server. It's due to fact that some of JES5 products do not support alternate root directory. There was a project which was addressing this problem but i think it's stalled now.
Probably best solution for you would be, if you are using Solaris 10 OS, to create 5 non-global zones, either sparse root or whole root (both are supported), though I would suggest whole root (less mess up in global zone) and install your JES5 instances there.

  • Regarding post installation jobs

    Hi,
could you all please help me in knowing the jobs that are to be scheduled after installation of an ECC server. I want to know the common jobs that are scheduled after the installation. The jobs may also include background jobs.
I hope some of the jobs are like checkDB, verifyDB...could you help me with more..
    vineeth

    Hi vineeth,
with transaction SM36, you have the button "Standard job" that you can use to schedule all necessary job in your system. This function allow to schedule job in the right client, so is better to launch it after client copy. Not all job are mandatory, for example if you haven't a livecache you can not schedule the job regarding it.
The job for database are to be scheduled from transaction DB13, usually I schedule from DB13 the check DB, update statistic and clean up log

  • Regarding oracle9i installation

    hi
please suggest me how to install oracle9i in LINUX 9.
    Thanks

First of all, Oracle9i Application Server cannot share the same ORACLE_HOME with other Oracle products. If you have installed other Oracle products on the system, then Oracle9iAS must be installed in a different ORACLE_HOME. If previously-set ORACLE_HOMEs exist on the machine where you are installing Oracle9iAS on, then you should take care to avoid conflicts between ORACLE_HOME. For that,
    1.Unset your existing ORACLE_HOME
    Edit your PATH, CLASSPATH, and
2.LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variables so they do not use the existing ORACLE_HOME value.
For more information refer your Oracle9iAS installation guide. This is explained in Chapter 2: Concepts and Preinstallation
Then you can specify any path for your 9iAS where you would like to install the product.
For your question # 2. Regarding prinstallation tasks..... iAS installatio requires an active database connection. If you are using a database installed on the same system, then you should take care of the port conflicts. By default 9iAS cache database( In Enterprise Edition install) and database in Standard Edition install are using 1521 as their default port. You can shutdown all other oracle processes other than database and DB listener( provided there are no conflicts) and then install 9iAS.

  • Regarding Designer Installation

have succesfully installed the Oracle Designer but
in designer's front panel we only have enabled the UTILITIES options (Repository Reports excepted), the rest of them are disabled (MODELLING SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS, GENERATING PRELIMINARY DESIGNS, DESIGNING AND GENERATING).
    How to enable these options???

Have you installed a Repository? Have you set up subordinate users and given them access? Read the SCM (Repository)Installation Guide available here (http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/designer/content.html) from OTN for more information.

  • Regarding Linux Installation

    Hi,
Today i bought the ideapad y530-40512uu laptop. I want to install linux in this laptop. Please give some information about how to install linux in this laptop. In the installation if my windows corrupt means how can i recover my windows vista. For ur information my harddisk configured as follows
    C drive: 254GB
    D drive: 29 GB.
Vista is installed in C drive. I don't know the reason why my C drive size is 254GB.
    Thanks and Regards
    S.Balamurugan

Follow the article that you posted. Just remember not to resize drive "C". If you don't use drive "D" for anything, you can delete the partition and use that unallocated space to install Linux. If you resize drive "D" and leave 15GB for linux, that is OK also.
If you are worried about losing preinstalled Vista, I would suggest that you create recovery DVDs from OKR 6.0. But DO NOT resize drive "C" or else the recovery DVDs will be useless.

Generally after the installation as a part of post installation we schedule standard background jobs which can be done through SM36, you may find a standard note on the Standard background jobs.

  • Issue regarding Thin Installer and driver packages

    Hello everybody,
I have recently started to work for a new company and have been tasked with creating a new Windows deployment solution.
My company are using Lenovo desktop and laptop and my installation image use Thin Installer to deploy drivers to our workstations during Windows deployment.
I have been having some difficulties getting everything to work and I want to write about it here to hopefully help someone in the same situation as me and call out for better quality control at Lenovo.
Here are the command line I call to start Thin Installer from the local computer:
START /WAIT thininstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -repository \\wds\lenovo -noicon -showprogress -IncludeRebootPackages 1,3,4  -noreboot
Hers the issues I have expirienced:
    1. Sometimes packages downloaded with Update Retriever will be set to "Reboot type: Forces a reboot" as default. This causes the Thin Installer to reboot reguardless of the -noreboot switch.
Its possible to change reboot type "Requires a reboot" in Update Retriever and than the updates installs fine.
This causes problem with scripted installs where you cannot have the system reboot "out of order".
Updates should never be default "forces a reboot".
    2. On my Thinkcenter e93z (10B8) the Intel Displaydriver (v 9.18.10.3220) wont install because the PnPID is not listed in the XML file. (my PnPID is VEN_8086&DEV_041E&SUBSYS_309C17AA (309D17AA is listed tho)). Manualy editing the XML files to include my PnPID solves the problem.
Lenovo should really have better qualitycontrol here.
    3. On a t440s machine i have the Synaptics UltraNav Driver (v. 17.0.12.60) wont install automatically with Thin Installer.
This is because the machine i installed failed the "BIOS test" in the XML file of the update package. I manually edited the XML file and replaced the "BIOS TEST" with one from another update that worked on that system and now everything installs automatically and works fine.
Its possible that Lenovo has detected some kind of problem with my BIOS version and the Synaptics driver but everything seems to work fine for me.
I hope this post will help someone in the future
EDIT: Other people have called out some problems with the information provied in this post. You should read the whole thread before making any changes to your systems.
    Kind Regards,
    2bi

    2bi,
Thanks for posting your findings.  I will investigate and escalate the missing PnP id issue for the Display Driver issue.  We absolutely need to avoid these kinds of escapes.
For you ThinInstaller command line I would recommend not using the -showprogress parameter if you are using in a scripted deployment scenario with something like MDT and/or SCCM.  These solutions typically will not allow TI to interact with the desktop during deployment which is what -showprogress will cause.
Also, you are telling TI to include packages that will automatically reboot your system (type 1), requires a reboot which can be delayed (type 3), will shutdown the machine automatically (type 4).  We have very few type 4 packages anymore; however we definitely have type 1 and type 3.  As sclexman mentioned, the -noreboot will only apply to the type 3 packages which leave the execution of the reboot up to TI.  So -noreboot tells TI that even if it installs updates of type 3, it should not reboot when finished.
Changing the Reboot Type value in Update Retriever only changes how TI sees the package and does not alter how the package itself executes.  So if a package is designed to always automatically reboot, changing it to type 3 in UR will have no affect.  We have recently had a display driver released by Intel that will automatically reboot if the driver installer detects that it is upgrading an older version of the driver.  In a clean deployment scenario, the automatic reboot will not happen so in this case it is safe to change the type to type 3.
This leads to another point.  All of our content that is available through Update Retriever is also intended for consumption by System Update which is the utility aimed at individual consumers to help them keep their drivers up to date.  Therefore this becomes our lowest common denominator that we have to support.  This leads to situations that may not be ideal for the deployment scenario.  If we had an army of resources we might be able to manage all of our content for both consumers and enterprise deployments; in effect doubling our efforts.  Unfortunately this is not the case and we are trying to do the best we can.
Regarding the UltraNav update for T440s, I see that the XML has a _BIOS section under the Dependencies.  However it is defined such that any BIOS level will work because the first level listed is a wildcard asterisk (*).  This BIOS section is actually included for a completely different solution which also uses the XML.  It is not intended to control the targeting of the update for System Update or Thin Installer.  Perhaps there was a mistake made initially and the XML was released without the * and has since been fixed.
(from the current UltraNav driver package:  )
    <_Bios>
    <Level>*</Level>
    <Level>GGET*</Level>
    <Level>GFET*</Level>
    <Level>GHET*</Level>
    <Level>GIET*</Level>
    <Level>GJET*</Level>
    <Level>GLET*</Level>
    <Level>GMET*</Level>
