I am planning to buy a lop top to practise xi.
what is the minimum configuration required to load xi in the laptop.
like hard disc,
processor,
ram,
can any body help me regarding this one,

My first generation iMac G5 behaves awkwardly when booting. It doesn''t seem to recognize the hard disk drive. After several attempts I usually manage to start from the installation DVD.
I have now run the hard ware test CD repeatedly. The first times it indicated a hard disk drive failure, though each time with slightly different error codes. (For instance 2 STF/3/3: S-ATA Bus-0 Master)
The fourth time the test said there is a logic board failure (Error code: 2 GMC/3/16 Built-in).
Does this necessarily mean there is an issue with the logic board, or how reliable is this test? After all, the first three runs it didn't find any problems with the logic board.
Could the problems I encounter with this iMac be related to those covered by any of the exchange programs?

P. SvenssonI would suggest you call Apple befoe you take the machine in. They can give you a repair order number. I don't know where you are so I can't give you a local phone, but you should determine whether you are covered before you take the machine in, just so there's no misunderstanding when you are in the service centre.

iPhone to Saudi Arabia for repair/replacement. Either take it back
yourself or send to friend/relative for them to take to Apple. Apple
will not accept international shipments for repair nor will Apple
ship repaired/replaced iPhones out of the country where the repair

MihirActually you can develop your applet and test them without the need for hardware. Eclipse IDE + JCOP3.0 plugin provide exactly that.
HOWEVER in order to activate the JCOP plugin the easiest way is with a JCOP engineering card + Smart card reader.

This is more for general advice than a specific question. Right now I have my hard drive partitioned and use the second as a backup with Time Machine. It will work for most situations but not all, such as a home fire or break-in (all my photos and music, lost forever!).
What I want to do is buy an external hard drive for backup and keep it at work. I would then bring it home every few weeks to update, but otherwise not store it in the same place as my computer. That way I would never lose more than a few weeks worth of stuff. So, a few questions, the nature of which will let you know how much of a novice I am at this.
1) Right now, Time Machine automatically updates once per hour. When I am using the external drive will I be able to set Time Machine up to only update my back up files when I connect the external drive. Is this difficult.
2) Any suggestions on what kind of external hard drive I should buy, or what features I should look for would be appreciated. I live in a remote area, so something I can get from futureshop.ca would be preferable.
3) My hard drive is about 280 GB. What size should I buy.
Advice on any of the above would be appreciated. Also feel free to toss in anything else you think I should know or consider.

This is what I am currently doing among 3 different backup disks (1 Time Capsule, a WD500GB, and a Lacie 160GB). You won't have to "set" anything up other than attach the new drive and select it in the TM prefs. Then when your done, reselect your normal TM disk.

Most any drive will do, as you partition it correctly to begin with.
*_How Should a Time Machine Hard Disk be Prepared?_*
For Time Machine to work properly, the hard disk must be formatted “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” and its’ Partition Scheme should be either GUID or Apple Partition Map.
Time Machine is incompatible with disks partitioned as Master Boot Record (MBR). Unfortunately, this describes nearly every hard drive you can buy because MBR is a Windows partition scheme. (Naturally, this DOES NOT apply to Apples’ Time Capsule.)
For some, Time Machine begins to perform as expected with a new external hard disk. But then the initial full backup or subsequent incremental backups fail. The user only later discovers the hard disk was still partitioned as Master Boot Record (MBR).
One article on Time Machine made this observation: “Virtually everybody will have to open Disk Utility and repartition the disk as APM or GUID. It doesn't really matter which one because the Time Machine disk will not be bootable anyway. APM allows a disk to boot a PowerPC, GUID allows the disk to boot an Intel processor but both are easily digestible by Time Machine on either kind of processor.” [http://www.girr.org/mac_stuff/backups.html]
It’s been recommended by many here that your reserve +at least+ double the size of your primary hard disk, that way Time Machine backups have room to grow as the size of your data grows. Additionally, the more space you give Time Machine the more history it can preserve. The less space you reserve for Time Machine the sooner older backups & deleted items will disappear.
One poster recommended this regarding multiple partitions: “If you do create multiple partitions (half and half would be a good place to start), make sure you use the first partition for Time Machine, and the second for your own stuff (the first one will be on top in the graphical representation shown in Disk Utility; you'll understand when you see the partition tab). This way, you can expand the Time Machine volume at any later time by deleting the second partition. Procedure
Connect the hard disk you wish to use for Time Machine backups.
Launch Disk Utility.
It will appear twice in the pane on the left. (Make sure you recognize that it is different from the 2 icons that represent your Macs' internal drive.) The upper entry represent the device as a whole, including the controller inside. The lower entry represents the hard disk contained within the device.
Click on the upper icon of the external hard disk.
Select the "Partition" tab.
For "Volume Scheme" choose "1 partition". (Choose 2 partitions if you intend on storing other data on the disk besides your Time Machine backups. Ensure that the two partitions have different names.)
Name the disk.
Format should be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".
Click "Options".
Select either GUID or Apple Partition Map. (See above for significance)
Click "OK".
Click "Apply". Then click “Partition”.
Once the external hard disk is repartitioned, select it again in Time Machine preferences and use it for your backups. If you chose to create 2 partitions, then select the first partition for Time Machine backups, and the second for additional files/folders.
3) My hard drive is about 280 GB. What size should I buy.
Any TM backup drive should be +at least+ twice as large as your Macs internal hard disk.

I use a free NTFS driver for Mac OS-X to give me full read/write access to any NTFS formatted partitions when running Mac OS. I also use MediaFour's MacDrive v8 on some of my Windows PC's to access any HFS+ formatted partitions.
Most of my drives are formatted NTFS because I have more Windows machines than I have MacDrive licenses, and with the driver for Mac OS, they are fully accessible. I have a few drives I do keep formatted as HFS+ because I have encountered an app or two that don't work quite right when they don't get to write to files on an HFS+ partition (one of my backup programs is picky about this).
As said before, FAT32 is fully accessible between the two OS'es but it also has it's own limitations. -

I cannot find the best way to format an external hard drive for MAC, PC, TV?

I have a problem: I want to use an external hard drive on my Mac as well as on a PC and a TV. The normal structure of Mac (Journaled) isn't supported by PC/ TV. I changed the structue into DOS(FAT) on my Mac. That's suppoerted by TV and PC. But I'll use the hard drive for storage of HD films so I'm afraid that the structure is not good enough for this (it seems old to me DOS.....) And I don't want the quality to be influenced by a bad structure.
Then I've formatted into NTFS on my PC, but then I cannot put files from Mac on the hard drive.
What is the best solution?

Regards, KimFAT works great, but the problem is that it's old and that you can't store files that are bigger than 4 GB. In this case, you have exFAT, a filesystem compatible with OS X and Windows, but I don't think that the TV will read it.
If you want to use NTFS, you need a third-party application to be able to write in it on OS X, like Paragon NTFS -
My iMac will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. Why is this?
I have a late 2012 27 inch iMac. It will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. I do have File Vault turned on. Will this stop it from booting in to the test?

From your description, I would like to clarify the following things:
1. Before performing the restore process, we need to dismount the Exchange databases that we want to restore. If the database is still mounted, the restore process will fail. If the restore process doesn't succeed, Restore.env won't be generated.
2. It is because the log files are healthy, you can run Eseutil/r and perform soft recovery.
3. In your case, you can continue to perform the soft recovery.

I believe Apple is making money by forsing their customer to replace the phone when so many people are stating to encounter this same problem.
If you are not covered by the warranty, they tell you that you have to replace the phone.... they put up a show showing you that they are trying to solve the problem by reseting your phone, then they tell you that you have to replace your phone due to a hard ware issue, when I asked them what part of the hard ware, they game the round around, then I insist, what part of the hard ware, they told me "some thing on the mader board" !
The sad part is that there were a few people with the same problem, some of them had had their phone replaced a few time as they still were under the period of warranty... when I mentioned to the Appple Tech. that was helping me, why those people having the same problem, and their phone being replaced a few time, would it that be a red flag, that the problem is the phone, but he told me, not. those people are having that problem, because they doing some thing wrong when they down load their back up via Icloud!.. he even mentioned that icloud make wi-fi grayed!... so, whay Apple have icloud for us to use it, when it creates issues on the phone...
SOLUTION = Replace your phone $$$,
To replace our phone due to that, to me simple issue, which is only an option for some of us to use.What exactly is the technical support question in that jumbled statement that your fellow users in these user to user technical support forums can assist you with?

I am one of the engineers at Speck involved in designing and launching the MacBook See Thru Case. Thank you for your interest and feedback regarding this product. However, after reading through this discussion page, I feel it is necessary to dispel some misconceptions about this case. We are a case company that has been designing, engineering and selling cases for years. I'm not sure which Agent 18 case (great cases by the way) is being referred to in the previous thread, but without knowing the exact case, I am assuming there are inherent differences in the mounting system used. Specifically the following:
1. The "Sandpaper effect" occurs when two surfaces rub against each other. In the example with the ipod case, I believe (and because I don’t know which case it is, I can be wrong) that the scratching was a result of the ipod sliding into the case, or sleeve. Typically hard PC cases have tight tolerances, which leave a minimal amount of clearance. Because of this, the ipod is more likely to be scratched when inserted into the case. However, unlike the ipod case example, the Macbook case clips onto the MacBook. Instead of a sliding motion, the MacBook See Thru is a snap on and lift off system. Also, because the See Thru is clipped onto the Macook, it is a static system, thus no surfaces would be moving against each other.
2. More importantly, we designed the MacBook See Thru with small spacers that keep a minimal distance between the surface of the See Thru and the MacBook. This means that unlike the Ipod case that sits against the surface of the Ipod, the MacBook See Thru maintains uniform clearance.
Lastly, from a consumer standpoint, and user of many, many different CE devices, I am always hesitant to use adhesive films on my products. In my experience, they tend to leave a residue, which is sometimes difficult to get off, and makes your device have a higher affinity for dirt. This is not to say that all films are created equal (because there are some companies that have engineered them not to leave as much of a residue). Also, films tend to scratch and rip easier. Please remember that there may be some bias in my comments (being a Speck engineer that has been so involved in this project), so take them at your own discretion. But don't take my word for it, go out to the Apple Store and check them out for yourself. I think you won't be disappointed.
