I have to update some patches in my hp-unix box.HP have recommeded us to update the following patches.
SAP products running kernel release 640
On basis of that we recommend is to install the following patches:

I have installed update patches on AIX many time .Can anyone tell me to how can i update these patches & Prerequisites before patch update.
I have to use swinstall or any other command (sam) to update the above patches.
I am working on SAP ECC5 ,OS hpunix & DB oracle 9i.

Hi,
Filesystem doesn't manage permissions; the OS does. For the filesystem, there is only read and write.
It's up to the OS to decide if it will allow a file to be loaded into memory or not, and it uses the "execute" bit to help make that decision.
Note that the execute bit is "overloaded" in that it also indicates if a script is runnable directly, or if a directory's contents can be listed.

Because they are unrelease F.M's i can't use them anymore.

The FM I use are:
F4_DXFILENAME_TOPRECURSION for browsing the presentation server
and
F4_FILENAME_SERVER for browsing the application server

Com.sun.security.auth.module.NTSystem compilation issues in Unix

Hi ,
I m using com.sun.security.auth.module.NTSystem in one my java application to get the current domain. The application and app server are running on windows OS.
Now i want to switch my OS to Unix, where i m getting compilation issues with com.sun.security.auth.module.NTSystem ,
1)Do i need to change the module from NTSystem to UnixSystem?
2) I m developing the java application in Eclipse 3.2 with java 1.4 , when i m trying to import the below statment com.sun.security.auth.module.UnixSystem i couldn't? Could you please let me how i can import the UnixSystem or NTSystem will work?

Failed using exec and wait_for_file functions in Unix for DS X3.1

Unix version --> 11.23 running of HP-UXIA64
DS version   --> Data Services X3.1
I able to run exec and wait_for_file fuctions in my local Windows environment using cmd.exe to move files or copy files around folders.
A) However, I failed to run Unix command using exec function to get any similar results, the test script that i wrote in DS is like this:
(1) DS Scripts:

$G_Var1 = exec('/usr/bin/sh', 'pwd', 8);
Print('**** Unix result: \[$G_Var1\] ****');
log returns as such:

(--> nothing return for the global variable)

Hi,
I found out one peculiar behavior regarding to Unix delete command of 'rm'.
My goal is to delete some files using '*.txt' wildcard in Unix command.
I could perform all following shell scripts at Unix level successfully, but just can't find a way to use the method inside exec function.
The differrent ways that I had tried out:
1) exec('rm', '-f *.txt', 0);                -
> no effect, doesn't work.
2) exec('rm', '-f `ls *.txt`', 0);          -
> no effect, doesn't work.
3) exec('rm', '-f data.txt', 0);          -
> It worked, but I want to delete few files of type txt, not just one specific file.
Please advice is it a bug some where?

there are some highlighted characters within terminal functions at a linux server (redhat or suse or ...) With Putty or a linux connection I get the special keys that are highlighted to work with the "alt" key pressed. Example is the terminal button "ok" with the "o" highlighted. If I press "alt"+"o" it would be choosen and the next page will be shown. Is there a way to make this work on a MacOSX Terminal? I had no chance to find anything similar with google. I hope you might find a solution!

Qmaster and AE6.5

Hi,
I have created already a cluster controller with 11 service nodes, installed already the AE6.5, the necessary plugins and qmaster software on all nodes, created also a cluster in qadministration.
When i tried to submit batches in my cluster it is successful but the output files is no where to be found. can anyone help me with this qmaster and AE.
I have read also the forum here about qmaster and AE done everything they told, mounted all the shred drive but still no output files. though my cluster is running, receiving jobs and processing and generating an status of Succesful Progress... After Effects succesfully launched

there is basically nothing wrong with it. your render nodes are working well. the reason why only one service node is rendering your submitted job is that, you were only submitting 25-frames to render.
By default, qmaster allocates 10-frames each segment (minimum number of frames in each apple qmaster segment). Because your submitted job is 25-frames, Qmaster will divide them into 2 segments of 10 frames each. Mac Minis have 2 cpus, therefore the frames were being accomodated into one mac mini.
For this, try lowering the number of minimum value to 5 under the "Minimum" field. This way, apple qmaster divides the job into 5-segments of 5-frames each. You should have 3 service nodes running with this scenario.
If you like, try setting the minimum value to 1 so qmaster divides the job into 25-segments of 1-frame each. With this, all your 11-macminis (service nodes) should be working.
regarding that "unix error command 9" -- no idea...

I need to create something like mail info when some reports jobs hang.. sow i think i will need to find way to check reports server for current jobs from command line someone knows that tool? Get info about current jobs from commnad line not from web?

Transport Requets are adding in the PRD buffer

Hi,
We are unable to add the request into the PRD buffer (from QA) even when we wanted to add it manually it gives following error
(TMS_TP_MAINTAIN_BUFFER). Also the existing requests in the PRD buffer are not imported in the PRD.
While importing the existing request in the PRD buffer the truck (running) symbol not showing

Unix : The /usr/sap/trans file system is mounted on server(domain controller) and for every system which is included in that domain controller have the /usr/sap/trans file system should point to Domain controller server.
if your PRD system /usr/sap/trans file system is not mounted on domain controller server.
Please ask your unix team to mount the trans file system on PRD system.
Windows : /usr/sap/trans should be share.
if file system is fine , please give me the error details , like Return codes , log details.

How do you get the CPU Usage in Linux

In Linux, you can read /proc/uptime. It does NOT give you the load averages that the command uptime gives. It gives you numerically the amount of time the CPU was idle vs how much time it was spent doing something. You need to read these two floating point numbers one every second, or once every 5 or 10 seconds then do the delta on the change: The maths are as follows:
Read the file in twice in 5 seconds, parse into two floats/doubles:
double[] last; // the first read of the file
double[] rect; // the latest read of the file
double ld = last[1] - last[0];
double rd = rect[1] - rect[0];
double cpu = (1.0d-(rd/ld)) * 100.0d;This should print the CPU percentage in Linux for that given time frame (5 second updates).

Help me with Cn3D!

I'm a biologist and I would need to install Cn3D, a program to visualize protein structures, on my i686 Arch Linux laptop I use in the lab.
Basically there are both a UNIX version and a Windows version but I can't use any of them.
Regarding the UNIX version it is just an executable, so there's nothing to install. However it returns me an error because it searches for libgtk1, and can't find it. It also probably uses very old libjpg, libpng and libtiff. It is possible to run this on Arch in some way?
The Windows version is a .msi file, so I tried to open it with msiexec Cn3d but I get a lot of errors also in this case. I'll post the exact errors in this post as soon as I am back to the lab.
In the meanwhile, has someone got any hints? I really need that program!
[Also, if someone would like to make a PKGBUILD and put it in the AUR, that would be much appreciated!]

SSD for boot drive

I've installed a Seagate SSHD hybrid SSD / HD unit and installed Mavericks on it. Things do run fast. However,
something worries me a bit. Since a block of SSD can be written only so many time before it reaches the end of its
life, will the system drive have problems with this. Unix uses some sort of swap disk to allow more to run than there is sufficient
memory for. This means sections of memory which are dirty (changed from when the program started) get written out to a
swap file so the memory can be used by other programs. Windows XP did this as well. I imagine other modern systems do thet
same.
Will this cause the boot drive to get more writes than it might otherwise have?
Against this, I observe that the Macbook Air uses SSD for its only built-in drive and that the new MacPro uses SSD for its boot drive.
This leads me to think, that OS X does not do enough writing to the boot drive other than user data files to have a significant effect.
Does anyone know more about this?

All recent SSDs already incorporate wear leveling in their firmware to extend their longevity as much as possible.
SSDs all have a finite write / erase cycle limit and will eventually fail, but it is reasonable to expect their lifespan should equal or exceed that of conventional hard disks. High capacity consumer grade hard disks should be considered wear items that will require eventual replacement. SSDs are no different, the only question being how much longer they will last in typical, average consumer applications. There is no doubt they are more abuse-proof than HDs and are preferable overall despite having a finite lifespan.
For all practical purposes a HD's capacity eventually becomes too limiting for most users, and require replacement for that reason whether or not they fail. SSDs are no different in that regard.

Macs have been doing that for ages, well before OS X was as much as a sketch on a cocktail napkin. Mavericks uses a new "memory compression" algorithm to minimize use of mass storage swapfiles entirely. It's light years ahead of XP or anything else.
Apple's Fusion Drive intelligently migrates frequently used data to the SSD. Whether Seagate's hybrid drive it is capable of that is unknown.
