Regarding Hyperion Essbase

Hi ,
I was placed in a Hyperion Essbase project.Previously i was working as plsql developer.I heard about informatica,cognus etc but i haven't heard about it.So can you kindly tell me what will be the future if i get into this tool.
I appreciate if some one could explain me about hyperion essbase.What exactly it is used for......

I do not think wired will even work with the 6.x runtimes. Your only real option is to put off the move untill you can manage the a6.5 upgrade.

Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

Hyperion Essbase on 64-bit and Other application are on 32-bit

Hi
I am going to Install Hyperion Essbase on AIX (Version: 6.1) on 64-bit and Other Hyperion application like EAS,EIS, calc manager, Foundation services, Financial report and planning on windows 2008 SP2 with 32-Bit.
I future any connectivity issue will occur with two different bit type or there will no issue.
Please guide me here, above combination is fine or not.

Hyperion Wired for OLAP v.4.1.2 compatiblity with Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server v.6.5.4

Dear all,Our existing version of Hyperion products are as follows:1) Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server version 5.0.1 Patch 7 under SunOS 5.6 on Solaris Server2) Hyperion Wired for OLAP version 4.1.2 under Microsoft Win2000 Server on Intel machine.And we are going to upgrade Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server from 5.0.1 Patch 7 to 6.5.4 under SunOS 5.8 to get Windows XP support on Essbase client in client users' PC.Besides, we also intend to upgrade Hyperion Wired for OLAP v.4.1.2 to Hyperion Analyzer v.6.5. However, as client users' PC configuation don't meet the requirements for Hyperion Analyzer 6.5, we may need to postpone the Hyperion Analyzer 6.5 upgrade.Here, I have a question that can Hyperion Wired for OLAP v.4.1.2 can access Hyperion Essbase 6.5.4 OLAP applications.Finally, I also have a question that since Hyperion Analyzer 6.X, repository in Paradox format has been faded out, RDBMS for repository has been introduced since then. Is Hyperion Essbase 9x/11x Compatible with Excel 2000

We are currently using Excel 2000 and Planning to implement Hyperion Essbase and Planning 9x/11x newly. Can any one please let me know whether
"Hyperion Essbase 9x/11x is compatible with Excel 2000" which we are currently using. Will it be compatible for Essbase Excel Add-ins usage.

Yes As John suggested 11 X support only Office 2002 (XP), 2003, 2007, Its always better to use only supported Ver of Office/

Totally I'm having four machines (Machine A,Machine B,Machine C,Machine D). With the help of these four machines I'm going to install Hyperion Essbase and Planning 11.1.2.1.0.
Machine A (Linux-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure the Hyperion Essbase Server,EAS Console.
Machine B (Linux-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure the Oracle Database.
Machine C (Windows-64 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure Hyperion Planning.
Machine D (Windows-32 bit) ----> I have planned to install and configure Hyperion Essbase Client.
In my 3 machines i have 64-bit, and 1 has 32 bit, I do not know this would be working, if this is correct kindly tell me how to do.

Hyperion Essbase on VMware Help

Hi there....I would be very thankful to you for your precious suggestions..........I am using "windows xp pro" operating system on my laptop. (The lenovo laptop-Core 2 Duo 1.5Gh processor speed and 2.5Gb of RAM). I am going to use MS SQL SERVER 2005 as a Data Source for my Hyperion Essbase. but the problem is my XP OS in not supported for MS SQL SERVER 2005 Enterprose Edition which I have.......... So Iam planning use VMWARE for virtualisation and install windows server 2003 on it and after I can install MS SQL SERVER 2005 and Essbase 9.3.1 on it. Is it possible to do that.... would it be works fine? If so which one is better to use either Oracle VM or VMWARE from "vmware.com".
And I would appreciate If you have any sreenshots how to configure VMWare and essbase on it....

There are 3 components in Oracle VM downloading..........
1.Oracle VM Server 2.1.2
2.Oracle VM Server 2.1.2 Source
3.Oracle VM Manager 2.1.2
The third one VM manager is mandatory or optional ?
and the system requirement for this component is 1.83 GHz Processor. I have only 1.5 GHz processor.........
So could you please let me know this component is mandatory ?

Optimizing Hyperion Essbase on AIX

Hello all! We have just changed the production server for our databases. After this migration, our system administrator noticed that the essbase server process ESSSVR, when running calculations is taking system time in system mode, not in user mode. He recommended that the solution would be to cluster the application on HACMP/IBM. Has anyone any idea how that can be done ? We are using Hyperion Essbase 6.5.4.2 on AIX 5.2. Thanks a lot, Chris

Alias Combination Property - Hyperion Essbase Application Manager

Hi,
I want to know how the Alias Combination Property works in Hyperion Essbase Application Manager. I tried substituting 2 different alias names for 2 different member combinations. But this did not work with the version of Hyperion essbase Application Manager(Release 6.5.7.0) I use. If anyone has ever used this property and found that this is really working, can you please explain me better?

I think it got dropped before 6.5.7.
Maybe 6.0. Perhaps 5.0. I last saw it in 4.x. I always thought it was really cool and never understood why it got removed. It must be the only function that ever got removed from Essbase -- the feature set of which reminds me of the barnacle clad bottom of a boat (but in a good way).
I recently had to build a SmartView VBA add-in to do a very poor imitation of Alias Combinations. It would have been better for all around if it were just there.

Hi All,
Is there any document out there that has the best practices for Hyperion Essbase development? I am looking for methodologies, naming conventions and such information. Wondering if there is any such doc with Hyperion Essbase Guru's that outlines the best approaches for Essbase-outline development with it . Searching this forum with the string "best practice" yields a lot of threads on specific issues, but couldn't find any document.
Any pointer is most appreciated.

guidelines, each with their own strengths and
weaknesses. To get them to cough it up without
bringing them in for a paid project might be
difficult, but not impossible.I agree with Doug here.. Many of these consulting companies have developed their best practices over a number of years and view them as a competitive advantage over the other consulting firms. I would be highly surprised if you managed to get ahold of such a document very easily.
That being said, those same consultants share information here in bits and pieces, so you can learn at least some of the best practices here (along with best practice tips from consultants/developers/customers who don't have an 'official' best practices guide)..
