Regarding iMessage:  text message acknowledgement

Regarding iMessage: is there a way to acknowledge text messages From lock screen without opening up message?  In other words can I somehow let the iPhone know the message is no longer new without opening in messages?

I leave wi-fi enabled 100% of the time, and turning 3G access off does not turn cellular data or internet access off completely. EDGE or GPRS access via your carrier's cellular network is still available. Turning Cellular Data off turns internet access off completely via your carrier's cellular network.
The answer to your question is no.

  • Why are some of my iMessage text messages being received sporadically by my father

I've searched high and low, but couldn't find any information regarding this particular issue, so if you know of a link in the discussions please show me.  Today my father received 2 texts from 2 seperate numbers by friends of mine.  This is troubling, and isn't the first time.  I am using an iPhone 4 fully updated to 7.0.4. I recently noticed that I was no longer sending messages as an iMessage (blue text color) so I investigated the issue within the settings function and didn't really see any differences there with the exception of the Apple ID.  I've always used my father's Apple ID and only once has this happened, the only difference was that I was receiving his messages from people in his contacts.  It is also important to mention that my carrier is Verizon and that we are on a family shared account with 4 members.  I don't think that any of the other members have ever received any of my texts, but then again I don't know if they are using just one Apple ID (I think they have there own personal IDs).  So it comes to this, do I need my own personal Apple ID?  If that is the case why do they offer the option of selecting what numbers or email addresses to choose to have my texts sent to?  Also in order for me to open an Apple ID I must be the owner of a credit card which I do not use nor do I have, not even a debit/credit card.  Anyway, that's it.  I don't need my personal life spilled into my father's life, we all have enough problems of our own!   Ciao and thanks for any and all help.

Anyway, I followed the steps you provided, and changed all of the settings including <-- Settings <-- FaceTime and Settings <-- Messages <-- Use your Apple ID for messages.
Just to be clear, while you have to use an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime, you should not be using that e-mail address to receive at or send from since you're using your father's ID.  Later in your post it sounds like you de-selected e-mail addresses that were not yours, which is correct, but I wanted to make sure you understand that you should not be using this ID for a contact point since it is not yours.
If your father is still getting your text messages from your friends, I suspect that either:
    (a) after making these changes you need to turn iMessage and FaceTime off for a brief period, then turn back on, or
    (b) your friends are replying to older messages that you sent from your father's Apple ID, or
    (c) your father's iPhone somehow has your e-mail entered as one of the possible contact points for his iPhone.
If the cause is (a) turn iMessage and FaceTime back on since you've already turned them off.
If the cause is (b) see the last paragraph of my 1st post.  Send your friends a new iMessage and tell them to only reply to that conversation and delete prior conversations.
If the cause is (b) have your father de-select (or remove) your e-mail address from his iMessage and FaceTime settings.

  • Imessage/Text message not working

My Imessages and text messages will not go through. I have to turn off the phone and restart it the Imessages will then send as a plain text. I am also not receiving any texts. I know this based on the angry phone calls and Instant Messages I am receiving from family and friends asking why I'm not answering them, when I am not receiving anything.. I asked if anyone in my area was having problems with their service on a social media site and got multiple responses from fellow Verizon customers that are having identical issues to mine. I am wondering if this is a service issue and when it will be resolved.

I had this problem too, well after Apple's iMessage service was back up and running. What helped was this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRNzXReLV44 that I found linked on one of the Apple forum threads.
Anyway, short answer: I turned off wifi and then synced with iTunes, and that fixed it immediately. Best of luck to those of you experiencing this problem, I know how maddening it is.
    Hope this helps!

  • IMessage/Text message issue

    Hello,
I got a question about iMessage. Sending a text message from Belgium to Denmark is very expensive so when I'm texting with my girlfriend I turn off the function "Send as a text message if iMessage is not available". Cause she's not always on wifi or 3G. Although, she has to turn on that same function cause she's also sending to other persons with an iPhone. So if iMessage is not available with them, she HAS to send them a text. So the problem is that I have to turn on my WIFI or 3G all the time cause otherwise she's paying. So I wonder if it's possible for her to keep that function of sending messages when iMessage is not available on but it ensures that if she sends a message to me and my wifi or 3G is not turned on that it's not trying to send a text to me.
    Thanks.
    Benjamin

  • IMessage Text Messaging Problem

A few months ago my sister decided to change phones from an iPhone to another phone, she called Apple Support to remove iMessage registration which she did successfully.  The thing is iMessage on my Mac Mini and on my Macbook Pro still shows her number as registered to iMessage.  In the drop down, it shows her email address which is registered to iMessage since she has a Macbook Pro, and her phone number which on rare occasion, it actually shows "123-456-7890 Text Message" next to it...But mostly it still says "123-456-7890 iMessage".  I do have an iPhone 6+ and Text Message Forwarding on.
Like when it works, and I am texting her on the MacMini and I would need to restart the mac for w/e reason, when I try to text her again it will for some reason switch to iMessage and then I get an undeliverable message.
I then completely reset iMessage by deleting all the plists relative to iMessage and all the history for her and I deleted her contact info and my messages on both my macs and my iPhone.
Is there anything I am missing? This is extremely frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Even before Yosemite and iOS 8 and the Text Forwarding function  Messages has always shown any number as a potential iMessages contact.
It shows my land line as and iMessages contact but without the Blue "previous contact" indicator.
I do not have any other numbers to check the "number Text Message"  indicator with at the moment.
I have seen several other threads where SMS started on the iPhone and then continued on the Mac works but trying to Start one on the Mac does not.
There is now no setting in the File Menu to start a specific type of Chat.
Deleting all the .plists for the Messages app is now extensive as it involves all the ones with iChat in the titles and some with iMessages in the tiles plus several that don't.
It also involves some in the ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat sub folders and some in the com.apple.soagent folder as well.
    Some will achieve nothing.
    com.apple.iChat.SubNet.plist refers only to Bonjour
com.apple.iChat.StatusMessages.plist only holds the Saved Status messages in Buddy Lists and is actually nothing to do with iMessages
com.apple.iChat.LSSharedFileList.plist only stores the Recent Chats list  which the Messages app In Yosemite does not display.
com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist is the one that holds the Apple ID and the iPhone Numbers and any other aliases you have linked to your account.
As you can see it does not mention iChat or iMessages. It holds nothing about how it connects to specific contacts.
The com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.ess.plist seems to contain the same info (but always has an older Modified date and never "today" to say it is in use.
com.apple.imessage.bag.plist only lists the Server you are connected to for iMessages.
Most likely it is going to be one of these
These are some of the ones relating to the SOAgent support app.
As you can see by the Path Bar across the bottom these are deep in the Containers folder which is used by the Sandbox protection process.
Some of the .plist items are Aliases to the originals in ~/Library/Preferences but the ones highlighted are actual .plists.
A quick look at them in Xcode does not reveal anything.
com.apple.messageshelper.AccountInfoController.plist looks promising but might only be linked to Buddy Lists rather than the iMessages account.
I don't think you are missing any Setting in Messages app or the iMessages account itself (or menu items that only refer to that part of the app.).
However with a lack of testing here on this side I also have no suggestions.

  • IMessage, Text Message, Voicemail - are very often never received!

It's so unreliable, I'm using a BB as a backup!  Anybody else have this issue?  It's been over the last 2 months or so.....my iMessages don't work, switched that off completely, text messages are often never received (sent by someone else to me), and voicemails are not coming through for hours after they are left.
I've called ATT twice and both times they did the same thing - re-registered my phone with the network.  It hasn't helped.
    Any suggestions?

Yes, I turn my phone off frequently.  That doesn't do anything.  I have messages that have been sent and never received and no amount of restarting ever gets them to come.  I can see, for example, that my daughter sent me a text when I look at her iPhone...and i never get it.

  • IMessage & 10.8.2 Stopping Incoming Text Messages to iPhone 5?

I'm using Moutain Lion 10.8.2 and iPhone 5 ios 6.0.2. Both are updated to the latest versions of software available at this time.
I've been working at home today and using iMessage on my Macbook Pro Retina which has worked fine with sending and recieving - if I wans't actively using my mac my phone would sound, if I was using my mac the message would come straight through to my iMessage on my desktop - works fine!
However, I just sent a normal, non iMessage text message to a friend and suddenly about 5 normal text messages have come into my iPhone inbox with times sent much earlier today (some quite urgent work related ones as well, annoying). I definitely didn't miss them, they literally came in, the phone vibrated and the unread count in the inbox went up seconds after I pressed "send" of the normal text message.
I'm with O2 here in the UK, I have just checked the "service status" on their website and there are no reported issues. Just sent a normal text message from a family member's phone and it came through fine but I'm put off using iMessage on my mac if it delays receipt of normal text messages to my phone.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Can I do anything to rectify it? Very inconvenient..!

    Hi,
Broadly speaking to be effective in Syncing (Displaying in all Places) requires that there was a "Start Point" for the iMessages server to begin syncing the iMessages to iPhone, iPads and Macs running Messages once the Apple ID is in place.
Most people seem to state the opposite happens for them - their iPhone gets iMessages that the Mac does not.
The most likely cause for this is that the iPhone Number is not an Receive Alias on the Mac version and that iPhone to iPhone iMessages are in fact almost "Private".
I would start by checking the iPhone Number is in the Mac version of Messages as an iMessage alias.
I would then check the iPhone that the Apple ID involved is In the settings and is ticked as Active.
If all are present I would turn Off Messages on the iPhone or put in Airplane mode for a few minutes.
After you have turned it On again then Restart Messages on the Mac.
If you are short of Apple IDs and iPhone numbers you will get alert messages from the iMessages server saying the Apple ID and iPhone number are being used with the devices involved

  • E90 unable to forward text messages after software...

    Hi,
I recently updated my e90 to 300.34.84 software and now I am unable to forward text messages. You can only forward by manually typing in the numbers. If you choose via the "add recipient" option, it brings you to your contacts  list and you can mark "x" on the box beside the name however there is no "ok" option, just a "back" option which if chosen, brings you back to the text message you want to forward without any name on the top. Any help on how to solve this is much appreciated

  • Why can't I delete my old text messages?

I'm trying to get rid from stuff from my iPhone, but most of my memory is the documents and data.
I thought I could get rid of it by deleting some of my old text messages, but it won't let me delete any ot my old texts.
Every time I try deleting a message from like a month ago my phone freezes and then whe I try to exit my messages
and reopen it, it deletes all of my messages! PLEASE HELP!

I have a 32GB  iPhone 5s, am running the most current iOS (8.1.3)
None of the above steps actually accomplish PERMANENTLY DELETING OLD MESSAGES! I have over 8 GB of iMessage text messages. I have tried every suggested method of delete, from one at a time swiping, to "edit" , highlight and delete. It works in the moment, and LOOKS deleted, but doesn't actually REMOVE the messages. iMessage locks up often, then I am forced to reboot my phone.  When I reboot, all messages back to 2013 are BACK ON MY PHONE!
I found a great app, and actually paid $35 to try to fix this! It allowed me to see and copy the old text and voice messages that I did want to keep. That's awesome, and I have saved to my desktop computer the files I want. Unfortunately this program doesn't have (apple) permission to delete the files.
    Soooo......
I have set the "keep messages" function to only 30 days. There are STILL messages all the way back to early 2013.
I read that I needed to delete, then SYNC w/my iTunes to make them permanently go away. NOPE. THEY COME BACK.
I have done a complete restore, hoping it was just some bug, that would get cleaned out in the process. NOPE. THEY COME BACK.
In the meantime, functionality is HORRIBLE due to the fact that the app is over filled.
Someone please give me a real suggestion. PLEASE. I will be forever grateful.

  • My text message conversations are showing up on our kid's phones and my daughter's texts to me show up as if they are from me.

my text message conversations with my husband are showing up on our kids phones. my daughter's text messages to me show up as if they are from myself and I can only text her as if Im texting myself.  if i text to her phone # she doesnt get them.  Really strange.

The probable cause is that you are sending messages using iMessage (text messages routed as data instead of SMS) and have configured all the phones to use the same ID. In that case, whenever you send a message, it goes to all the devices that are configured to receive messages at the given ID.
The fix, got to Settings > Messages
Then, either turn iMessage off and Send as SMS on (in which case, all messages go to the destination phone number via SMS and the messages count against your provider's SMS messages plan).
... OR - Click on the 'Receive At' button and select the phone's number and remove the e-mail address that's shared between the phones.

  • My iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when receiving a text message

for some reason since yesterday, my Iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when I receive a normal or Imessage text message.
I double checked that vibration works in general and it does. so does the sound file for the Text tone.
My ringer works fine as well as vibration for incoming calls but nothing works with a normal text message (even whatsapp works fine).
I have no idea what could be the issue here.
    Any ideas?

    - Unmute your phone
    - Set your Ringtone to default
    - Adjust your volume
    - If you're on iOS6 - DO NOT DISTURB feature turn it OFF
    Try again

    Hi,
This issue is usually caused by some anti-virus programs, disable the anti-virus program you have on the PC, check if this issue will happen again.
You may also run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if it's 3rd-party add-ins related:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem viewing html emails in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue. Some security programs may have such add-ins intergrated with Outlook.
