Regarding iMessage

A strange problem has just popped up regarding iMessage.  I now display the phone numbers with a + in front of the area code.  It won't display the contact name anymore.  I can't figure it out.

Well, after some digging around I found that some of my contacts were corrupted.  Several had the country as the Netherlands and those that had no address at all gave the Netherlands as the checked default.  I checked all settings I could think of, even doing another reset of settings.  Still shows the Netherlands. Comparing an iCloud contact and an iPhone contact shows a mismatch in the location.  The cloud has it correct and the phone shows the wrong country.  I am stumped. I really don't want to do a complete restore for fear that these settings will return.  I'll keep looking.

Regarding iMessage: is there a way to acknowledge text messages From lock screen without opening up message?  In other words can I somehow let the iPhone know the message is no longer new without opening in messages?

I leave wi-fi enabled 100% of the time, and turning 3G access off does not turn cellular data or internet access off completely. EDGE or GPRS access via your carrier's cellular network is still available. Turning Cellular Data off turns internet access off completely via your carrier's cellular network.
The answer to your question is no.

It takes two to tango, maybe it's your recipient that has weak Internet/Cellular connections.

  • Regarding Imessages.

    Hey Guys,
I have my girlfriends old iPhone 4s and its not sending iMessages to her new iPhone 5c i have updated and copied everything from my old iPhone to her old one. it sends iMessages to everyone else just not her. We can normal text each other and ring each other perfectly.
    Many Thanks.

    The next troubleshooting steps:
Restart - Reset - Restore from backup - issue still persist restore as new.
You can take it in to Apple - but there has to be a setting issue between you two, since you both can imessage other people.
Double check that you guys haven't accidentally blocked each other

OK.  Going to accept for now that it is a server problem.  Hate waiting though. Grrrr.

  • Is there any news from Apple regarding iMessage on MacBook Air?

I WANT IT so badly on my MacBook Air!

It wasn't worth the wait. Yes, I know its beta and I know its free, but its a singularly unimpressive piece of software. It sends messages based on your Apple ID, not your phone number. As a consequence, your contacts wont know where to message you and you'll miss messgaes on the phone that go to the computer, and vice versa. You also cant clear the chat transcripts without major surgery (burrowing into the folders in the library).
I hope it gets better, because right now its not much to look at.

  • Two Apple IDs, receive the same iMessages?

    Hello Everyone,
So I've been using the same Apple ID for a long time now (lets call it A), and that's the one shared with few family members. About 5 months ago I started Using a different account (lets call it B) but still on the same iphone (both accounts use same bank card & same information). I was aware of privacy issues regarding iMessages when I was using account A, however, now that I'm using account B, I recently found out that my iMessages still reach some family members. How is this possible?
Could it be an iCloud issue? but still, I use account B for iCloud backup, not A
Now I checked the iMessage settings and the only "send and receive from" are my phone number and the email i have for account B, so i'm baffled at the moment, any suggestion would be appreciated

iCloud has nothing to do with iMessage.  iMessage is a separate service that doesn't use or require an iCloud account so that isn't the issue.
Your iMessage identity is determined by the Apple ID you are using for iMessage in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive.  If your other family members are using a different ID for iMessage they shouldn't be getting your messages.  If they are, try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID and sign out.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.  Then go back and sign back into both services.  This will unlink your phone number from any devices that may have had your number listed for these services.  If it doesn't, you may need to have the other family members that are receiving your messages do the same thing.

  • Imessage on iphone and ipad

    Hi all,
I've got a question regarding imessage. I've used imessage on both my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 (wifi only) for a while. I received messages on both iPhone and iPad.
Since last week however, the imessage only goes to the iPad and not the iPhone. When I manually open the message center they are visible, but there is no notification of any sort (visual, sound).
I've tried logging out from apple id on imessage and ipad, but still have the problem.
The only thing that I can see that is different on both devices is that, when activating imessage again, on my iPad it said 'reveiving messages on phone number and email address' and iPhone it only said 'receiving on email adress'.
Looking at the settings, both devices are logged in via apple id.
the 'you are available' part both mentions my phone number and email address - however, on my iPhone, the phone number is grey. Both the email address and phone number on both devices are marked.
New conversations are, on both devices, started from my phone number.
    So no difference in settings.
However, when someone sends me an imessage, the iPad plays a sound and displays the new message, while the iPhone stays silent. Very annoying since I only have my iPhone with me during the day and therefore missing messages.
Anyone any suggestions on solving this issue?
    Thanks so much!
    Jorien

  • IMessage confirmation email not being sent

I'm trying to set up iMessage to be able to send and receive using a gmail account. I enter the information and it says email sent for validation. I have also resent the email. I never get an email in that account to validate. I've checked the spam folder too.

  • My iMessage somehow was turned off and it will not let me turn it on.

Every time I move the button to turn iMessage on it turns right back off on its own and says that I need to turn cellular data on or connect to wifi to activate iMessage. Thing is I have done both and my iMessage has been activated for like a month. What else can I try????

    Hey KristinaRTR,
Thanks for the question. Let’s first try restarting your device:

  • +44 Global Sim Card

I have followed the instructions in setting up a global sim card. It was fairly easy after a few support phone calls.
    http://http://www.telestial.com/userguides/ipad_data_userguide_en.pdf
However, I cannot seem to get the IPad to accept the international telephone number for
SMS texting. SMS texts are sent from various other devices to the IPad through the sim card, but I can't pick them up.
If you look at the Apple web site regarding iMessage, it seems to imply you can use an international telephone number.
Unfortunately, when you type in a number, the response is that it cannot validate the email.
Does anyone have a solution?   I also just recently updated the iOS to 6.1.

I think I get it now.  iMessage only works with the iPad if:
    a. you have iOS 5 or greater,
    b. you sign up to iMessage
    c. the people you send messages to are also signed up to iMessage.
Your A,B and C are correct.
It seems to be similar to Viber or Magic Jack.
Yes, they all uses Internet, but the underlying technology is different.
Furthermore iMessage it's free and it will sync across all your Apple devices.
Can anyone suggest how to test messaging if they have an iPad, not an iPhone?
You can use the Apple ID to activate your iPad's iMessage.
Tell your friend with an Apple device to send you a message by using your e-mail address (instead of a phone number).

  • Can any app be downloaded and used on the new OS Mountain Lion?

Can any app from the app store be used on the new Mountain Lion OS?
Or is only the iMessage, Notes e.c.t...?

    Hi...
For third party software, it depends on the whether or not the app's developer updates his or her software to meet Mountain Lion's requiremeents.
Since Mountain Lion won't be released, according to Apple, until this summer, regarding iMessage and Notes, since they are native to the Mac OS X, they should not be a problem.

  • I'm suffering from 2 major IOS 7.0.3 issues at the same time

Incredibly, I'm experiencing two of the most often reported 7.0.3 issues simultaneously. My battery is draining far faster than prior to the update AND iMessage no longer works.  Regarding iMessage, I have tried every single solution found in the Apple communities and internet short of a complete reset. For the battery drain, I believe the issue might be that the iPad continuously searches for networks even though it aleady is attached to a network and I turned off "Ask to Join Networks"
Apple - Fix these problems ASAP!!! This is crap. One issue is frustrating, but two problems caused by the same update is completely unacceptable.

    (A) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • Cannot setup messages in Yosemite

    Hello,
I installed Yosemite onto my Macbook Air (from late 2010) last night, and have been trying to setup messages. When I open the messages app, it asks me to login with my Apple ID, which I do, and then it tells me "Your Apple ID "******@gmail.com" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time. This is the same Apple ID I use on my iphone (5, running IOS 8.1) and I have used it for a long time. I turned off Imessage on the phone and then back on again, as another forum had said to do, and that did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

    Hi,
If the Apple ID  and the password you use with it at Apple work on an iOS device but not on the Mac for the iMessages account then contact Apple Support and explain you have an Account issue with the iMessages servers.
They should then be able to fix it for free.
They may try to redirect or say that it is an Apple Care issue with Software or Hardware and try and charge you if you are outside of your Apple Care period.
If this happens ask to speak to a Level 2 person who can then sort the issue for you.
There are other known issue regarding iMessages logins to the iMessages server using working Apple IDs (or iOS devices) from the Mac side of things.
