Regarding installing RAC

Hi All,
I am installing RAC on my Laptop using VM ware worstation . I have created two linux machines on VM ware with 1 gb merory on each machine . I installed 10.2.0.1 clusterware succcessfully but when i am installing 10.2.0.1 database binaries my machine reebotts every time .
Please suggest the best way i can overcome it.
Thanks in advance .

Normally a node will reboot due to below reasons :
Private interconnect Issue
Voting Disk not accessible
High Memory/CPU utilization
Please check your N/W and shared storage setting . Also there are many docs/videos available , you can follow them for configuring the same.
You can check CSS/OS logs to find reason for node reboot.

Rajesh

  • Binding Luns in red hat linux5 while installing RAC with ASM

    Hi All,
I am in the process of installing RAC with ASM. Our OS team have presented the shared LUN's on the cluster nodes. Now that i need to bound/map them to the raw partitions. I did the below step. Could you please let me know the next steps to be done for the binding to be completed?
    # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
    # This file and interface are deprecated.
    # Applications needing raw device access should open regular
    # block devices with O_DIRECT.
    # Enter raw device bindings here.
    # An example would be:
    # ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sda", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
    # to bind /dev/raw/raw1 to /dev/sda, or
    # ACTION=="add", ENV{MAJOR}=="8", ENV{MINOR}=="1", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %M %m"
    # to bind /dev/raw/raw2 to the device with major 8, minor 1.

    Hello,

Is necessary buy a shared storage for RAC? because, I have revised in some notes and It mentioned that not is necessary the shared storage. that with server 1 and server 2 can make a RAC with >clusterware It is correct. You don't need to buy a new one if you can create shared disks (which will be mounted on both of your RAC nodes) on your existing available storage in your organization. You have to have shared file system.
following note should be best for you in this regard where you don't need to buy any extra storage but you can use NFS to build your cluster. This article is for 11GR1, but it can also help you for 11GR2

  • Install RAC OBS on single node using VMWare

Re: How to install Muti_node R12 using VMWARE
    Mine is a little different.
I have the Test server which has OEL5 and one OAS 10g(Oracle application Server) with 10g database.
I want to install RAC OBS on this server by installing VMWare for the single node. I do not want to wipe out the OAS, reinstore OSL5 and start from a blank machine.
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?

    Hi,
Can I keep what I have on the server and install RAC OBS by installing VMWare, configuring the virtual sharing disks, and install RAC OBS using ASM?Yes, you can. Just make sure you have sufficient resources on this machine.

  • Can I install RAC in my pc computer?

I am learning RAC, trying to install RAC on my PC computer.
Both computer are dell, same configuration, and each computer has two network cards.
I have another USB external hard disk, used for the storage, is that doable?
Now I will try to install linux + oracle 10g + 10g RAC, is that doable?
do I need other hardware or software?
    appreciated for any suggestions.
    Thanks.

The easiest would be to install the virtual software like Virtual Box(free and from Oracle) ad install RAC using it. If you want to physical machines, try to arrange a third machine whose disk you can use as a shared hard drive using a software called Openfiler( http://www.openfiler.com/) . This would be closest that you would be able to get to a production box. If you really want to spend money than you can buy an old shared storage from Ebay.

  • Can i install RAC in my personal computer ?

I Want to install RAC Environment in my personal computer. Is it possible to do it in Windows Environment ? Is there any link which can help to show how to setup RAC Environment in a personal computer.

You can create a single-node RAC. However, you still need the infrastructure - shared disk, multiple network cards, and so on.
The easiest way to do RAC on a PC is to use some virtualization such as VMWare, based on the 'Build RAC' articles by Jeff Hunter and others. To see those articles, go to http://otn.oracle.com and click on 'Articles'

    I have some more questions:
How can I have the raw device shared by 2 servers?Yes - if the device/LUN is shared between cluster nodes. In other words, each cluster node need to see the same device. Once that is done, you can simply partition the device (if needed) and turn that into a raw device.
You will however need to configure the raw device entries (a file called +/etc/sysconfig/rawdevices+ on Linux) on each node.
Remember that you need 5 raw devices typically - 2 for the OCR and 3 for the Voting Disks.
Not sure about Solaris, but raw devices have been deprecated on the Linux 2.6 kernel as block devices can now be opened using direct I/O. Oracle recommends not using raw devices on Linux anymore. Not sure if this applies to Solaris. If it does, then 10g CRS Installer have a bug that prevents it from using block devices - forcing you to use raw devices (and then change it back to block devices after CRS has been installed). Or, you may find it easier to install 11g CRS instead and run 10g RAC on it (a certified Oracle combination).
Do I have to install ASM before the Oracle Clusterware SW?No. You install CRS first. Once that is installed correctly and successfully, then install RAC. I prefer installing RAC without checking any "+create db+" options.
Once RAC has been successfully installed, use dbca to create the ASM instances. Once that is done, create the the RAC database and instances.

  • Installing RAC/ASM for OCP preparation

    Hello Fellow Forumites,
I just passed OCA in 11g.
Now I want to study for OCP.
My approach has always been to take a self study, before registering for an instructor led class. To achieve this, I am currently using Sybex (Sybex OCP Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Professional Study Guide Exam 1Z0-053).
My question is how do i install RAC and ASM on my server.
I have checked the hardware requirement for rac and my server passed, it is also running on win 2003 server, but if i want to configure rac /asm, i get this error telling me that it can not be installed on my server.
Your kind help will highly be appreciated.
I forgot to mention that i am using Enterprise Edition 11g R2.
    Thanks
    Harrison

If you're getting an error installing software, you're probably better off posting this in the Database Installation.
When you do, it would be quite helpful to post the exact error stack you are getting and exactly what step of the installation process you are on.

  • Install RAC  using vmware

    Hi,
I am trying to install RAC 10g using vmware . I have windows vista 64bit as host OS. Now the problem i am facing during installation of vmware . if i try to install vmware server it's not being installed on vista as its not been supported by vista 64bit OS. if i try to install vmware workstation 6.5 it install fine but again it doesn't support clustering hence can't proceed with installation. Does some has installed RAC on same kind of configuration . Please share with me. Would be a great help.

You MUST NOT use VMware Server to try install RAC!
You CAN DO it with VMware Workstation 6.5!
When use VMware Workstation 6.5 you get the message:
Clustering is not support for VMWare Workstation
    This can ignored!
