Regarding Knowledge Management

Hi,
I have experience in Enterprise Portal, but I am totally new to Knowledge Management.I want start learning Knowledge Management.
I want to know how do i start of with it.
What softwares do I need to install, I assume it is Netweaver Developer studio.
What plugins do I need for KM ?
Where do I get these plugins from ?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Vivek

Hi Vivek,
if you are on NW04, the IDE is NetWeaver Developer Studio, the plugins are plugged in
For EP6 SP2 the situation differs. But when you ask for NWDS, I think you are on NW04?!
As a starting point for developing, take https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/knowledge management and collaboration developers guide.html and https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/developerareas/km.sdn?page=KM_codesamples.htm
Hope it helps

  • Knowledge Managament and  SAP HR Documents

    Hi all,
I have a requirement regarding Knowledge Management and the module SAP HR.
I need to figure out a way of seeing documents generated in SAP HR, using Knowledge Management in our Portal.
I did some research, and I think we can use DMS as a content server, then, using KPRO we connect the DMS to KM.
I need to know, if this approach is valid .... or if there is another way of doing this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Andres.

    Dear Biroj,
    Thanks for your answer ....
It gave me a good direction for our requirement ....
Anyways, I also found that DMS is not fully compatible with SAP HR. Did you find any problem when you where implementing this requirement?
As I said before, the main idea is to see SAP HR documents in KM, for example, information of the employees, etc.
    The points have been given.
    Cheers,
    Andres.

  • How to create a custom folder under Knowledge Management in Home Page

    Hi,
We have a SAP provided standard Home Page and it has a Workset/page called Knowledge Management.
Under that we have the folders called Favorites, Public Documents, Personal Documents etc.,
How can i create a new custom folder , say HR in that so that i can upload the HR related documents and that will be visible under Knowledge Management for all users.
What ever the folder we are creating under the Content Management is not visible in the Knowledge Management workset provided by the SAP.
Please let me know the step by step procedure of adding a folder under Knowledge Mangement Workset.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sekar

    Hi Sekhar,
You can store all your HR related documents in KM content.
Path is Content Administrator -> KM content
You find so many folders like documents etc... All these are KM repositories.
If you want to create a folder in the repository, you need to  create a KM repository and it needs to be activated.
For creating custom KM repository check the below thread.
You can create your own repository with your desired name.
Go to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Repository Managers -> CM Repository
Otherwise you can create a folder in root->documents. Say
    HR.
In that HR you can store all the documents.
To display these documents in portal iview, you have to created a KM Navigation iview and set the property 'path to document' as /documents/HR
It will display all the documents in that iview.
There are so many templates related to displaying KM content.
Search in SDN for more information.
    Hope that helps.

  • Reg Link to Knowledge Management in Java system

    Hello All,
Kindly let me know if this is possible. If so pls give some hints on the same.
We have a system for maintaining documents and related information in Java.
    The requirement is that..
    1. When we upload a document using the interface in the java system, the document should be stored in SAP Knowledge Management (EP) - ie the filesystem of Enterprise Portal Server.
    2. When the user comes back, a link needs to be provided in the Java system interface to access the document stored in KM.
    3. To provide a search facility in the java system to search for the document stored in KM.
Your help would be very much appreciated..
    Regards,
    venkat.

    Hi Venkat,
the answers to your questions directly depend on the features your java app provides. Can you access WebDAV? This would be the easiest way.
If not and the app is self made, just have a look at Tomcat Servlet Engine, which comes with a WebDAV example implementation.
Alternatively you can store your files via shared folder in a file repository accessed by KM. This way you will loose the ability to work with meta data, but it's easier to implement. Take a look at these blogs:
    https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/2541
    https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/2571
    https://weblogs.sdn.sap.com/pub/wlg/3500
To get a link to your documents, just use standard KM servlet. If you have problems with this, please come back and I'll help.

    Carsten

  • Date format in SAP Knowledge management

    Hi Friends,
Is there an option to change the Date format in SAP Knowledge management. I want to change the date format from MM/DD/YY to DD/MM/YY for the created and modified date for a document in KM.
Found below information in help.sap. I searched in KM configuration -> Global Service for the setting. But I am not sure how or where to cheange it.
Date and Time Specification for Properties - Knowledge Management - SAP Library
Can you any one help me with this.
    Netweaver version is 7.00 SP24.
    Thank you in advance.
    Thank you
    ~Kamesh~

    Hello Kamesh,
if you look at the SAP Help link, you see that it is a part of the "Property Metadata Service" (the point one level up). There you see, where you can find the service itself in the portal and if you look at the "Related Areas" you should find "Property Metadata" (at least I do in my 7.31 portal ).
From there the link you found yourself should guide you well to do the changes you wish.
    Regards,
    Steffi.

  • Content Server & Knowledge Management

    Hi,
I am new to the concept of content server & Knowledge management in CRM.
Cotent server is already installed and I want to configure content server in CRM 7.0. I found some documents on service.sap.com but that describes the configuration of knowledge management.
Can you guys , please let me know, how to configure content server in CRM or any links describing the same would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Manoj

    Hi Manoj,
When we are talking about content server & Knowledge management , we generally mean the TREX engine of KM.
As we know KM is a component of SAP Netweaveru2122. It is used for managing unstructured information.Search and Classification (TREX) allows you to configure secure communication between TREX and the application using TREX (for example, SAP Enterprise Portalor SAP Customer Relationship Management).
Hence we configure secure communication between TREX and the application using it (for example, SAP Enterprise Portal or SAP Customer Relationship Management. For achieving the same as u said once installation is done we take HTTPS connectivity or any other depending on client request. TREX is based on a client/server architecture.

  • Knowledge Management

    Dear All,
We are using SAP ECC 5.0. We want to go for Employee Self Service implementaion. Following are my queries:
Can we implement Knowledge Management, Content Management & Document Management in SAP with EP?
Have any of you impelemented in your organization? How your organization is benefited by this?
    What is the roadmap?
If you can provide me the complete details like implementation plan, cost incurred, objectives and time frame and hardware configurations etc it will be of great help to us.
    Thanks N Regards
    Anandasiva

Hi dude...yes you can very well implement CM / KM /DM on the portal itself.
You would need to see how the end users of the organisation are going to use the facilities offered by the IT team. If you end users are going to access it to the fullest possible extent then the ROI is pretty high. One of the key benefits of KM is a central repository for obtains business related information also linking of email will give you access to hay wired data in a stream lined fashion. Road map depends on the type of orgainsationj ur implementing the solution, as for me i did it with a logistics company and it was a good sucess...plan your roll outs and training in a mannar where the end users get time to famiarlise them self with the solution.
For costs you might make use of the planner which SAP has...and sizing tools....if you have more queries...then [email protected] is my id...ping me
P.S: Kindly assign points if your query is resolved, also close the question to assist other users narrow the search and find solutions

  • Knowledge management Functionality  - C4C

    Hi ,
I am going to work on C4C project  and this my first C4C project with Marketing Sales and  Service as part of the scope. Our Client also have knowledge management functionality as part of the legacy. My question or my concern is  that I am aware that MIND-TOUCH is knowledge management server which interacts with C4C for the solutions . But currently my client doesn't have any knowledge server to interact with CRM for the solutions.
I would request you to help me on how the actual  knowledge management Functionality works and different approaches to achieve this solution.
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards
    Mahesh

    Hi,
By integrating an external knowledge base, you enable agents to search for solutions and attach articles to responses without having to leave the workspace. The workspace will also include a list of recommended articles based on an automatic search of the knowledge base using the product and other keywords identified via text analysis as the search parameters.
•You have an external knowledge base that supports the OpenSearch standard with an RSS or Atom based search API.
•You know the URL for the API (from your knowledge base vendor).
•You know the search term input parameter for the API (from your knowledge base vendor).
You have to enable the knowledge base integration from scoping
    Hope this helps.

    Siddhartha

  • Knowledge Management Recommended Storage Approach (DB vs Network)?

We are starting a knowledge management initiative within sap portal and cannot find documentation that represents best practices on the actual storage approach. Our pilot project started with storing the documents within the database and it was painfully slow. Since then we have switched to a network storage approach and speed has increased greatly.
    My main question is:
Is there a white paper or SAP recommended approach and a list of advantages/disadvantages for going one way or the other (Storing documents in the db vs network drive)
We would like to head down the right path before rolling this out and avoid having to switch direction a month or so down the road.
Thank you in advance for any assistance/feedback,
    Todd Simon

    > Hi Julian,
    > Where are you getting your information from? Do
    Can't comment on that
    > Do you really want your database to store documents.
Yes. But if there are concerns to hold the actual content in the database, there's the DBFS mode to take care of that.
    > How big is your database going to be? I don't know
    > know any clients that are not using anything but
    > FSDB.
    Well, I'd advise not to.
    Best regards, Julian

  • Siebel Integration with Lotus Knowledge Management Tool

    Hi,
I am currently working on Siebel 8.1 and have a requirement to integrate it with Lotus Knowledge Management tool.
Does Oracle provide OOTB adapters for integration for Lotus KM just like Inquira?
    Please let me know.
    Regards.

    Hi,
I am not able to find any information regarding integration of Lotus Knowlegde Management with Siebel.
Unless someone else in this forum has an answer, I recommend you to open a Service Request in support.oracle.com to confirm if such integration exists, and if not ask for a product enhancement request for this integration or request another solution that may be suitable. You can also contact IBM to verify if they have performed any validation using both products.
    Thanks,

  • New to knowledge management

    Hi
Iam new to this knowledge mangement in portal...Iam not able to see the knowledge management tab in the portal,,,Please help which role i need to add to this  user. Please provide the step by step documents  . What are the features , advantages of Knowledge management.what are all cases we will use this KM.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
Knowledge management & TREx are installed comes along with portal. We cannot install KM on its own.
The main advantage of KM is to store the files and documents in a structured manner as per your requirement. TREX is a search engine which helps in searching the doucmetns in KM content.
Collaboration is a feature where all portal users can connect each other and share their views based on the collaboration rooms, sending mails from portal, messenger service. etc.....
For KM Configuration with TREX Integration
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/706d054d-da24-2b10-f18a-fc82faf6468e
Knowledge Management, TREX, and Collaboration How-to Guides for SAP NetWeaver 2004
Once KM & TREX is installed, you can see the KM content tab under  content Administrator role. In Km content you can see various standard repositories which comes along with KM installation. You can create your own KM repositories in portal. For that search in SDN, you will get lot of documents.
You can also work with collaboration like room is created based on room templates. The content in the room will be stored in the KM content dynamically.
    Hope that helps you.

  • Future of knowledge management development

    Hi All,
I heard that there is a great future and demand  for knowledge management development because only few resources are available in the market and we can expect more projects in the future in KM development.
Am i right and am i going in the right direction
Please show me the correct way
    thanks
    Bala

KM is a very broad term. Several kinds of systems can come under it. In fact all systems which can give knowledge to the user can be deemed as KM. So it has more to do with the output than with the technology or the technical development of that system. Still, KM in the current paradigm refers more to document management systems, easy retrieval and proper publishing of files are more heard of. Also, tacit information from text chats are attended to in these. Tools such MS Sharepoint, Documentum, SAPs own EP can be regarded as some of the tools used to implement KM. Certain definitions of KM include OLAP systems into it.
    thanks
