Regarding master data doubt

hi everybody,
i have a basic doubt,shall we go for delta update in case of master data loading,or only full update we have to do.
sorry for asking shuch an basic doubt.
it will be better if any body can give some issue faced in mastre dat loading through process chai.

Hi,
We can even use Delta infopackages for Master data.
There is nothing wrong using it.
We are using some delta MD IPs in our process chains.
These IPs usually pick less no. of records as there will be rare changes in such master datas.

Regarding master data loading for different source systems

Hi Friends,
I have an issue regarding master data loading.
we have two source systems one is 4.6c and another is ecc 6.0.
First i am loading the master data from 4.6c to bi7.0.
Now this 4.6c is upgraded to ecc6.0.
*In 4.6c and ecc6.0c master data is changing.
After some time there is no 4.6c, only ecc 6.0 is there.
Now if i load master data from ecc6.0 to bi7.0 what will happen.
Is it possible ?

Yes, its possible. You can load data from ECC.
Data will not change, may be you may get more fields in datasource at r/3 side, but BW/BI side no change in mappings structures are same. So data also same.
You need to take care of Delta's before and after upgrade.

Hi Chinnu,
1)By replication I think you mean to say that you now have the datasources 0Plant_Attr,0Plant_Text,0Master_attr,0master_text in BW now.
2)You then have to complete the mapping to the corresponding Infosources
3) activate the infoobjects 0PLANT, 0Master.
4)Load your master data

Complex data model question regarding master data

Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to add master data retail price and master data cost into BW.
Both amounts are based on plant and material. How do I model this?
Here is how the records are coming in via the datasource:

Here's what I am thinking....
1. Add UofM, Cost, and Retail prices as attributes of 0MAT_PLANT infoObject
    Also make those attributes time dependent.
2. Use ABAP slit up the cost info and the retail info and use the valid dates above for the time dependent from/to dates in 0MAT_PLANT
Example:
0MAT_PLANT attributes:
Plant   Material      UofM Cost    ValidityFrom ValidityTo    Retail
0001   1000321      EA    $1.00   5/1/07          5/9/07
0001   1000321      CS    $8.00   5/5/07          5/7/07
0001   1000321      EA               6/6/07          6/9/07         $2.99
0001   1000321      CS               8/6/07          9/9/07         $9.99
After looking at the above, I need to compound UofM with 0MAT_PLANT somehow. How would I do that?
Is this the best way to model this?

Chris,
I wouldn't include those amounts as attributes for 0MAT_PLANT. In general it doesn't make too much sense, except in some very specific cases, to make a Key Figure an Attribute of a Characteristic.
I wouldn't either modify the 0MAT_PLANT key to compound it with UOM... Not a good idea, in my opinion.
In your case, those values can change over time, depending on the validity period. So you could have several records with different validity periods for the same Material and Plant combination.
I'd rather create an ODS with these values. The key fields would be 0MAT_PLANT and the validity dates and the data fields would be the amounts.
You could use and include this ODS in any Multicube or get the values based on the validity periods by using ABAP routines if you need to.
Another thing, as SAP recommends, an InfoObject with more than 500,000 records shouldn't be modeled as Master Data. And 0MAT_PLANT is a perfect candidate for this situation.
So I'd advise to go with the ODS solution.

I got some problem in planning layout,
Now every user can entry any values to e.g. Info Object A. In other hand, i have already setup the value in the 'master data text' for Info Object A.
I think before, the user only capable to entry the value entried in that 'master data text', but the fact now, the user can entry any value beyond the values written in 'master data text'.
But ..
It will be different, if i check the mark 'with master data', user can't entry incorrect value.
My questions are..
1. Is it okay to change the IO become 'with master data' ?? Will it have neg. impact to the FOX / Exit Function / Other ?? (Because i've already made for all planning functions ??
2. Is there another techniques that user can't entry any value instead user only capable to entry the value written in the master data text ???
3. Would it be okay if i check 'with master data' but i don't have any attribute object there ??
Really need ur obvious explanation / sharing..

Authorization problem regarding master data

Hello,
we have got a role with very restricted authorizations.
A user with this role can't start the BEx tools for example but it should be possible for him to see queries in the portal. That works fine for normal queries based on normal InfoCubes, DSOs and with hierarchies. But we have got one query that is based on master data (0mat_sales) - if the user wants to see this query he gets a message"You do not have the authorization for component <name of the query>".
I added object class S_RS_IOMAD but it didn't help. I also made some tests with changes on S_RS_ICUBE and S_RS_IOBJ but it also didn't help.
Has anybody an idea which authorization object class to use or how to configure this?

I traced the steps of the user for executing this query based on master data by transaction ST01.
The following authorization has to be given:
S_RS_COMP
Activity:Execute
Info Area: <InfoArea where the master data can be found>
InfoCube: 0* <or other names for own master data objects>
Name of reporting component: <name of the query>
Type of reporting component: Query

Is there any way that to find them ...

Go to the table ROOSOURCE in SE11 in R3 and in data source name just give 0DUNN_AREA* u will get all the data sources if available. you wont get any if the data sources are not available.

User authorization regarding master data

Hello,
does anybody know a way to restrict the access to specific customers? In general it should work the same way like the data ownership for the documents, but for the customer information.
Any ideas? maybe someone can give me a hint.

It is not allowed to change the datasource of a system field and ChooseFromList binding to a system field, because they are read-only in the system form. While we can change the condition of ChooseFromList binding to the system field. See the code as below:

I am working on Recruiting module. I need to extract the application activities data to Application info object.
i need to build a report on the Application activities , Application and candidate info objects . so i have build a infoset on the three infoobjects.
In my Application Activity Info object. i have Application Activity , activity Type, Activity start date, due date,application infoobjects as display infoobjects.
so i added zfidate, zsedate,zofdate,zofadate infoobjects to application activity.
i need to write the code in the start routine of transfer rules of application activity infoobject to populate the data for those z objects based on the due date of the activity.
For example :-

Master data extraction from SAP ECC

Hi All,
I am a newbie here and teaching myself SAP BI. I have looked through the forums regarding master data extraction from SAP ECC in all forums but could not answers for my question. Please help me out.
I want to extract customer attributes from SAP ECC. i have identified the standard data source 0customer_attr and replicated in SAP BI. I have created infopackage for full update. I validated the extractor checker(RSA3) and found 2 records for 0customer_attr.
When I run the info package, the info package remains in yellow state until it times out. Please let me know in case i am missing anything, Please let me know if there is any other process for master data extraction similar to transaction data extraction.

i did the below and afte clicking execute in the Simple job, it takes me back to the Monitor Infopackage screen.
From your info pack monitor --> menu environment-->job overview--> job in the source system--> prompts for source system(ECC) user id and password, enter them, you will get your job at SM37(ECC), select job and click on log details icon. there you can see details about your error. please share that error screen shot.

Will you please give me the solution for 'The differenet delats we have in generic delta,what actually is a numeric pointer.. how does it pick delat..is it something like it picks a record which has changes in it or it it each neew record..
if suppose we have 1 to 10 customers, will numeric pointer pick every new customer like (11, 12 , 13) as deltas or changes in 1 to 10 customers itself..
And Regarding master data deltas,how will the master data pick the deltas, is it every new record as customer mentioned above will be picked or something other..
the basic thing i want to know is, will it pick any changes in attributes as delta also.. if suppose we have a customer 001 with an attribute as 0ACCNT_GRP, if in any case if this 0ACCNT_GRP has change.. will it even pick this as an delata or not...

Hi Shashi,
Well....I could give some points on the master data delta..Its achieved by the ALE change pointers mechanism.
There are some tables responsible for storing the changes...CDHDR and CDPOS are good candidates for this.

Master data loading issue

Hi gurus,
    Presently i am working on BI 7.0.I have small issue regarding master data loading.
    I have generic data soruce for master data loading.i have to fetch this data to BW side.Always i have to do full data load to the master data object.first time i have scheduled info package and run DTP to load data to master data object, no issues, data got loaded successfully.whenever i run infopacage for second time and run DTP i am getting error saying that duplicated records.
   How can i handle this.

Hi Prasad,
Following is happening in your case:
<b>Loading 1st Time:</b>
1. Data loaded to PSA through ipack.It is a full load.
2. data loaded to infoobject through DTP.
<b>Loading 2nd Time:</b>
1. Data is again loaded to PSA. It is a full load.
2. At this point, data in PSA itself is duplicate. So when you are running the DTP, it picks up the data of both the requests that were loaded to PSA. And hence, you are getting the Duplicate record error.
Please clear the PSA after the data is loaded to infoobject.

Regarding Master data in DP,there is only one master data that is CVC. (charateristic combination Values)
For SNP.
In case of SNP Master data
We cif the data (means transfer the data from ECC R/3 System using Core interface)
First we CIF Plant,then Work Centre,then Material,BOM and Routing.
There after we maintain transportion lane and assign this all to version and models
