  • Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Oracle 7 Client with Oracle 9 Server

    Hello,
I was wondering what are the advanatges of using Oracle 7 client with Oracle 9 Server versus using Oracle 9 Client with Oracle 9 server.

Some years ago I used 7.3 Client with 9i DB, and I don't remember of particular problems, but I'm speaking of Sql*Plus only. Are there specific problems ?
Of course the best thing is to install one 9i Client (did you already do it ?) : if there are same problems, then that's not compatibility issue.
And what are advantages of using 9 Client with 9 server other than 7 is no longer supported. You're sure you won't have compatibility problems.
If you have access to Metalink have a look at [url http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showFrameDocument?p_database_id=NOTE&p_id=207303.1]Note 207303.1

  • Regarding XI installation and Learning

    Hi All,
I am very new to XI and i want to get into XI domain.
At present i am actually into SAP-ABAP from 2 years.
As i want to learn XI so i want some suggestions from all you guys familiar with XI.
I have some questions regarding XI.
    1. What is the system configuration required for installing XI!
    2. Can we get the XI software [Trail versions-Down load] from any web sites!
    3. What are the prerequisities for learning XI.
Like what are the languages we should be familiar
       before for learning XI!
    4. Actually what is XI is all about!
    5. Can anybody send me good material for XI for me to
       proceed further.
If anybody having very good material in XI please
       forward the same to :
       My Personnal Mail ID : <b>[email protected]</b>.
I will be very much helpful if any body help me in this regard.
Any help for the same will be appreciated very much.
Looking forward to all you people's help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rayeez.

    Hi Shaik,
Follow these steps while installing XI:
    1. Windows server or advanced server with latest service patch.
    2. IE 6.0 with latest service patch
    3. Install Microsoft office and winzip, acrobat
    4. Install JDK with version 1.4.2_03 or above with the corresponding JVM
    5. Install the SAP GUI 6.20
    6. Make sure that you have hard disk space of 10 GB in C drive and 50 GB in the installation drive.
    7. Make sure the virtual memory is between 512 and 1594 or above for the installation drive.
    8. Copy the dumps of following DVDs into the installation drive.
    • Installation Master DVD
    • Installation Export
    • Additonal Components for SAP BW/SAP XI,SAP MI,SAP KW
    • SAP Web As Java
    9. Start the installation from the DVD dump Installation Master DVD.
    10. When installing the ABAP Database the SID of the oracle default database should be different the ABAP database SID.
U can go through the Installtion Guides for Installing XI from http://service.sap.com/instguides (SR1 installation)
u can also refer to service.sap.com/platforms to see the available platform on which XI can be installed. ( Windows/linux/UNIX)
or you can even go through this weblog which clearly talks to you about XI installation
    <a href="/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/05/31/my-experience-with-xi-installation-on-fedora-core-3-linux installation</a>
In addition to this installation guide you also need to download the XI configuration guide which is very useful for technical configurations of various adapters and XI system.
At the same place you will also get the XI configuration guide e.g XI30ConfigGuideSPS11.pdf.
U can also download SAP Exchange Infrastructure 3.0 SR1 Installtion Guide from the articles scetion.
    ABOUT XI :
If it’s just that you wanted to know more about sap xi....then the information below should definitely help you.
The best way to learn XI would be to make the maximum use of XI from its forums, weblogs, presentations, etc in SDN.
First I thought I will just give u the basic steps involved in doing any scenario in XI. This is very essential for a beginner.
First of all you would need to define your product, software component, business system and configure the technical landscape in the sld.
You then go on to create the objects in the repository, you import your software component here and then begin your design steps. To import your RFCs n Idocs if you require any before proceeding.
Then under the name space which you want, you go on to define your data types, message types and message interfaces.
Then you do your message mappings where you specify your source and target message types and the relation between them, then you do your interface mapping. If you are using a BPM, you do the integration process.
Once you have this done, you will have to move to the directory, here is where you define how you use the objects and how you configure them to work as a scenario.
You assign your business system to the configuration scenario which you have created, and create the communication channels. Then you go on to configure the receiver determination, interface determination, and the sender and receiver agreements. Once you’re done you will have make sure you activate your objects. The exact parameters steps depend on what kind of scenario you are implementing.
You can use sxmb moni or the runtime workbench to monitor the entire scenario which you have done.
Also I would suggest this link on SAP help for any info that you want on XI,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/14/80243b4a66ae0ce10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
Further, this thread deals with everything that is needed for a starter on XI. Do check them out,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
    /message/527697#527697 [original link is broken]
And after you are done with the documentation probably you can go through this scenario,
    JDBC Receiver: exact SQL statement
Also check the following threads which might help you a little more,
    Learning XI
    XI 3.0 Training
In simple words regarding learning XI, there is an abundance of information on SDN and help.sap.com…. So I think it will be better for you to search information there rather than me just providing you links….which will just go on and on and on….so I felt it is better for you to go and search so that not only you get information on SAP XI but also explore SDN in its real sense.

  • Issue regarding Thin Installer and driver packages

    Hello everybody,
I have recently started to work for a new company and have been tasked with creating a new Windows deployment solution.
My company are using Lenovo desktop and laptop and my installation image use Thin Installer to deploy drivers to our workstations during Windows deployment.
I have been having some difficulties getting everything to work and I want to write about it here to hopefully help someone in the same situation as me and call out for better quality control at Lenovo.
Here are the command line I call to start Thin Installer from the local computer:
START /WAIT thininstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -repository \\wds\lenovo -noicon -showprogress -IncludeRebootPackages 1,3,4  -noreboot
Hers the issues I have expirienced:
    1. Sometimes packages downloaded with Update Retriever will be set to "Reboot type: Forces a reboot" as default. This causes the Thin Installer to reboot reguardless of the -noreboot switch.
Its possible to change reboot type "Requires a reboot" in Update Retriever and than the updates installs fine.
This causes problem with scripted installs where you cannot have the system reboot "out of order".
Updates should never be default "forces a reboot".
    2. On my Thinkcenter e93z (10B8) the Intel Displaydriver (v 9.18.10.3220) wont install because the PnPID is not listed in the XML file. (my PnPID is VEN_8086&DEV_041E&SUBSYS_309C17AA (309D17AA is listed tho)). Manualy editing the XML files to include my PnPID solves the problem.
Lenovo should really have better qualitycontrol here.
    3. On a t440s machine i have the Synaptics UltraNav Driver (v. 17.0.12.60) wont install automatically with Thin Installer.
This is because the machine i installed failed the "BIOS test" in the XML file of the update package. I manually edited the XML file and replaced the "BIOS TEST" with one from another update that worked on that system and now everything installs automatically and works fine.
Its possible that Lenovo has detected some kind of problem with my BIOS version and the Synaptics driver but everything seems to work fine for me.
I hope this post will help someone in the future
EDIT: Other people have called out some problems with the information provied in this post. You should read the whole thread before making any changes to your systems.
    Kind Regards,
    2bi

    2bi,
Thanks for posting your findings.  I will investigate and escalate the missing PnP id issue for the Display Driver issue.  We absolutely need to avoid these kinds of escapes.
For you ThinInstaller command line I would recommend not using the -showprogress parameter if you are using in a scripted deployment scenario with something like MDT and/or SCCM.  These solutions typically will not allow TI to interact with the desktop during deployment which is what -showprogress will cause.
Also, you are telling TI to include packages that will automatically reboot your system (type 1), requires a reboot which can be delayed (type 3), will shutdown the machine automatically (type 4).  We have very few type 4 packages anymore; however we definitely have type 1 and type 3.  As sclexman mentioned, the -noreboot will only apply to the type 3 packages which leave the execution of the reboot up to TI.  So -noreboot tells TI that even if it installs updates of type 3, it should not reboot when finished.
Changing the Reboot Type value in Update Retriever only changes how TI sees the package and does not alter how the package itself executes.  So if a package is designed to always automatically reboot, changing it to type 3 in UR will have no affect.  We have recently had a display driver released by Intel that will automatically reboot if the driver installer detects that it is upgrading an older version of the driver.  In a clean deployment scenario, the automatic reboot will not happen so in this case it is safe to change the type to type 3.
This leads to another point.  All of our content that is available through Update Retriever is also intended for consumption by System Update which is the utility aimed at individual consumers to help them keep their drivers up to date.  Therefore this becomes our lowest common denominator that we have to support.  This leads to situations that may not be ideal for the deployment scenario.  If we had an army of resources we might be able to manage all of our content for both consumers and enterprise deployments; in effect doubling our efforts.  Unfortunately this is not the case and we are trying to do the best we can.
Regarding the UltraNav update for T440s, I see that the XML has a _BIOS section under the Dependencies.  However it is defined such that any BIOS level will work because the first level listed is a wildcard asterisk (*).  This BIOS section is actually included for a completely different solution which also uses the XML.  It is not intended to control the targeting of the update for System Update or Thin Installer.  Perhaps there was a mistake made initially and the XML was released without the * and has since been fixed.

  • CR 2008 and ODBC connection using Oracle Instant Client driver?

    Two questions.
I'm creating CR 2008 report using an ODBC connection. The ODBC driver is the Oracle Instant Client (version 10.2, I think.)
When I define the connection, I see only a few tables. I do not see the Tables, Views, Qualifiers tree that I see with a normal Oracle Server connection.
Does anybody know why this happens? Is there a CR ODBC driver that works better?
Second question:  I have a .NET application that is pointing the report to another Oracle DB. In my db, table names are not unique -- each user has the same set of tables. I find that when the .net applciation sets the datasource, I get connected to the first table with a given name; I do not get the table scoped by the logon user.
In the .net application, how do I scope the table name to a particular user.
    Any info helps. Thanks.
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Below are the replies to your questions:
Answer 1: Please try the below steps:
    - Make sure that in File->Options->Database Tab in the Data Explorer section the corresponding checkboxes are checked for tables, views, system tables, synonyms and stored procedures and the Table name LIKE and Owner LIKE boxes are blank.
    - Please try with OLEDB connection and check the results.
    - You can also refer to this SAP note no# 1215994, the link to which is given below:
    [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/sno/ui_entry/entry.htm?param=69765F6D6F64653D3030312669765F7361706E6F7465735F6E756D6265723D3132313539393426]
Answer 2: If you are using RAS SDK only then you would be able to change table name. Please let us know if you are using RAS.
If you are using RAS with Java please post your query in the Java forum else if you are using Visual Studio/.NET then please post your question in .NET Forum.
    Please update with the results.
    Thanks!

  • Pros and Cons in using Oracle Advanced Security vs IPSEC?

In the CIS guidelines I've read the following:
"OAS Integrity/Encryption should only be used if required because of non-SSL clients"
    and
"Only implement OAS if a local integrity/encryption policy does not already exist, e.g., IPSec or other means for providing integrity/confidentiality services."
    Does anyone understand the argument?
    Is it:
    A. Because you don't want/need to "double bag" your secure communications?
    B. Because it's an additional expense and other options are cheaper?
    C. Because it's difficult to configure properly?
    D. Because for some unknown reason it's not possible to use PKI with all your clients?
    E. Some other reason?
    F. All of the above?
I just want to know which method is superior or inferior and under what options I might go for one and not the other.

    Hi,
let me try an answer, others please comment:
I understand the first sentence this way: "Use OAS when there are clients that don't support SSL"; if you need to provide encryption/integrity for these clients regardless, OAS provides native, non-SSL-based network encryption/integrity that is extremely easy to switch on; see here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr2_db_prod/security/network_encrypt/ntwrkencrypt.htm
The 2nd sentence says that you don't have to double bag; if IPSec is in place (and properly configured), OAS doesn't need to encrypt SQL*Net traffic one more time.
    Hope this helps,
    Peter

  • Trusted.certs question with regards to Installation and Upgrading Java

    Greetings,
Thank you to all who take the time to read this especially those who can provide some answers!
    Question #1:
I read that trusted.certs was not backwards compatible for Java. By this I mean that a "Java Runtime 6 Update 11" generated trusted.certs could not be read / used by "Java Runtime 6 Update 26". Is this correct?
    Question #2:
Part A: Does a fresh install of Java create the trusted.certs file upon installation or at the time Java is first run after install?
Part B: When the trusted.certs is created does it do a file check to see if trusted.certs file already exists? If so does it delete and generate a fresh trusted.certs or does it leave the existing file?
Reason I ask this is that we are getting a java.io.FileNotfoundException for the trusted.certs file. This I believe to be caused by a failed upgrade of Java. When uninstalling "Java Runtime 6 Update 26" it displays "Java Runtime 6 Update 11". This leads me to believe that the trusted.certs is still for Update 11 and not Update 26 which would cause this error even after a fresh install of Java.
I would love your input and knowledge! Thank you again for your time!

I am not aware of any trusted.certs file being distributed with Java. Are you referring to the cacerts file?

However this Idoc at the receiving SAP system is not getting posted and is giving error.
I want to post invoiceverification document in the receiving system.
The FM used is IDOC_INPUT_INVOICE_MRM for processing incoming Idoc with process code INVL.
Also I am using Logical System(LS) with ALE Setup fo communications bewteen the two SAP systems.
What sort of functional configurations I need to do to post the Idoc successfully.
I have done the configration for Tcodes OBCA, OCBD, OBCE ??
Do I need to maintain any entry in OBCB ??
Any sample example for this Invoice01 Idoc execution would be of great help.

  • I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why

I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
    must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
    home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
    because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
    a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
    the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
    the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
    Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
    And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
    /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
    says :
    platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
    that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
    from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
    able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
    from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
    of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
    2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
    Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
    Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
    to install
    using the minimal install.
    3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
    available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
    not have
    enough space.
    4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
    database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
    stuff under
    /mnt/cdrom
    5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
    points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
    specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
    6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
    options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.

My sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
    the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
    1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
    can't find it.
    2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
    dbmssml.sql.
    3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
    agent
    4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
    5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
    in 12 years.

    Hi all,
I am looking for documentation and software requirements to setup Oracle Flexcube. The only documentation I can find so far is the brochure from Oracle:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/industries/financial-services/046907.html
I understand that Flexcube was a product developed by Bangalore India team years ago and then acquired by Oracle. However, I cannot find the installation and configuration documentation for Oracle Flexcube and I also cannot find where to download the Oracle Flexcube software either.

Contact details are available in the same link -- http://www.oracle.com/us/industries/financial-services/046907.html

  • How to avoid OCM reinstall through OPatch when using EM Harvester?

Currently running OEM Grid Control 11g (11.1.0.1.1GC PSU) on an infrastructure repository database (11.2.0.1.2). Previously had OCM installed in every ORACLE_HOME in our environment. I removed all existing OCM installations and OCM Instrumentation in each database.
I then installed OCM (10.3.3.2.2) into the OMS_HOME in order to begin using the EM Harvester for all configuration uploads rather than multiple OCM installs. This went fine, and I began to see targets in MOS indicating GC as the data source rather than OCM. Good so far.
I then installed PSU 11.2.0.1.3 to the infrastructure repository database. During the patch installation, OPatch re-installed OCM into the database ORACLE_HOME without my knowledge. This caused some targets to appear in MOS with OCM as the data source again. At this point I had two sets of OCM processes running. I've confirmed that the patch caused the OCM reinstall by checking the opatch logs from $ORACLE_HOME/cfgtoollogs, where I can see the fresh OCM install occur.
I then installed patch 9431704 to the MW_HOME/oracle_common ORACLE_HOME to resolve the 'FMW Welcome Page Application' target showing down in Grid Control issue. The patch went fine, but OPatch again reinstalled OCM, this time to MW_HOME/oracle_common and MW_HOME/utils. So at this point I had four sets of OCM processes running, which caused many duplicate targets to appear in MOS, again with OCM as the data source. Confirmed yet again that the OPatch session led to the new OCM installs by reviewing the logs.
I would like to exclusively use the EM Harvester to upload configuration details to MOS. Per the whitepaper in note 848962.1, "The only prerequisites for using an EMGC system to collect and upload configuration data to Oracle Support are that the EMGC OMS must be at least version 10.2.0.5, and there must be an OCM instance configured (and running in connected mode) in the Oracle Home of the OMS."
So this leads to my question. How can I continue to patch OMS, the repository database, and the target databases, while preventing OPatch from reinstalling OCM in every ORACLE_HOME it finds?
I understand that whitepaper's comment to mean that I only require OCM in the OMS_HOME and it should not run out of any other ORACLE_HOMEs in our environment. Should I simply allow OPatch to install OCM anywhere it wants, then pause them by running '$ORACLE_HOME/ccr/bin/emCCR hold'? Is there a flag I can include when running 'opatch apply' to tell it skip OCM installation?

Thanks EricvdS, I think that will work. I plan to try it with my next PSU patch. It's not exactly what I wanted, since I'd prefer to avoid having OPatch installed at all (and thus have no ORACLE_OCM user and no OCM instrumentation in the database), and I believe the initial OPatch install will submit OCM data to MOS even before pausing it and setting it to disconnected mode, and I'd like to avoid that too.
I also have the feeling that I may be able to skip the OPatch install by not providing my email address and MOS password or CSI number when applying patches. I'll try that too.

We would like to use Domino LDAP for authentication/authorization in Webogic, but
we are not able to configure it. Has someone else already done this? Below is
a list of steps to take that we got from a BEA consultent. The problem is step
10, rebooting the server. When I try to do this, I get a Fatal initialization
exception error and cannot start the server.
    1. Open the WebLogic Server Administration Console http://localhost:7001/console
    in a browser.
    2. In the right pane of the Administration Console, click the mydomain->Security->Realms->Create
    a new Custom Realm.
    3. Enter MyLotusLDAPRealm in the Name field.
    4. Click Create.
    5. In the right pane of the Administration Console, click the mydomain->Security->Caching
    Realms->Create a new Caching Realm.
    6. Enter MyLotusCachingRealm in the Name field.
    7. Click Create.
    8. In the right pane of the Administration Console, click the mydomain-Security.
    9. Select the MyLotusLDAPRealm from the drop-down box for the Caching Realm.
    10. Reboot the WebLogic Server.
    11. Copy the ldaprealm.properties to bea/wlserver6.1
    12. Modify the web.xml
    13. Modify the weblogic.xml
If anyone has done this before please let me know how you did it. Thanks!

    That works. Thanks!

I'm trying to create connection pool to Oracle 9i database under Linux.Oracle
installation is fine, and I can use Oracle examples to connect to mydatabase.
But when I try to create pool from within WLS I get:
    - Trying oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver: <Cannot startup connection pool"oraclePool"
    No suitable driver>
    - Trying weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError:/home/usr/local/bea/wlserver6.1/lib/linux/i686/oci816_8/libweblogicoci37.so:
libclntsh.so.8.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file ordirectory
The latter is not a surprise, since the file does not exist. InsteadI
    have libclntsh.so.9.0
and vanilla so, which is a soft link to 9.0. Creating link with desiredname (libclntsh.8.0)
to 9.0 does not help as it throws on unsatisfied symbol.
Can you advise me on the reason and remedy?

  • Digital Certificates and Web Services with Oracle APEX

    Hi people,
I am working to implement Web Service communication using Oracle Apex. I need to create an application that calls an external public Web Service in Apex. So far, so good, and i am able to work with a public WS without any problems.
However, this particular WS I'm calling has two peculiarities:
    1) It is SSL-Secured (HTTPS). This means i have to communicate using SSL and Public/Private Certificates.
    2) The message i pass (payload) must be digitally signed using XMLDsig Standard (www.w3.org/TR/xmldsig-core/)
The first requirement i am still testing, but it will probably work if i import the public and private keys using Oracle Wallet and point to this Wallet, just as PayPal sample in OTN samples does, don't you think? Should i have any problems with this?
The second one is more complicated, all APIs i have seen for XML Digital Signing are Java-based or .NET-based, i have found nothing based in PL/SQL packages or such. Can you point me some other options to sign this XML?
Please bear in mind that, since the WS has more than one method, i am using plain old UTL_HTTP to call it (just like the PayPal sample in OTN). PayPal requests that all communication be SSL-enabled, but has no mention whatsoever for Digital Signatures.
Can anybody help me out with this? any help is highly appreciated.
    Regards
    Thiago

    Thiago:
You are correct in that there should be no problem interacting with a Web service that has an HTTPS endpoint as long as you create a wallet and specify it when you make your UTL_HTTP calls, like the PayPal example.
I am not aware of a PL/SQL utility to create a XMLDsig Standard message, but if you find some Java source out there that does it, you may be able to follow a technique I used for a similar use case:
