Regarding OS 64bit .
Hi all:
Is operating system 64bit necessary for installation of PI 7.0? \
Couldn't thank you more!
No, for PI 7.0 32 bit OS would do. Only for PI 7.1, u have limitation of 64 bit OS.

Any NI news regarding Logic 64bit support?
Does anybody have information about an Native Instrument announcement what their plans are for native 64bit support in Logic 9.1? I cannot find anything on the web and I also heard that they didn't even have a booth at NAMM.
I did get a response on their forum. They said they're planning on a 64 bit version, but have no idea when it might be, which isn't very helpful. Their answer also made it sound like they don't think having a 64 bit version is that important, which gives me a bad feeling.
I let them know that they're not getting a dime from me for upgrades or new products until they support 64 bit. You're right, users definitely need to get in touch with them and let them know how important it is.
Here's the forum thread, contacting them directly as well is a good idea.

Network printing: ipp "printer is busy"/LPD and AppSock prints garbled data
Dear all,
After months of trying on and off, I give up - I need help please. Since upgrading to Leopard, then Snow Leopard, I cannot print to the office computers. Windows or IPP printer settings produce the "printer is busy - wait 15 seconds" etc error message; LPD and AppSock printer settings enable data to get through, but the output is garbled text (the Adobe Postscript 3 engine on the printer isn't happy, obviously).
We have some new colour copier/printers from FujiXerox (FX Docucentre IV C3370) and some older Canon laser printers (LBP5600), but they don't offer Bonjour connectivity and I am stuck. I can ping them, I have the latest drivers, but nothing works. They worked fine in OS10.4 on this same computer, and XP and Windows 7 of course in BootCamp, but nothing in OS10.5 or 10.6.
I've been all over the web and through the Discussions forums and tried all the suggestions I can see, to no avail. I've tried KeyChains to carry by login ID and password to the machines, and deleting/adding printers through both the System Preferences and the CUPS interface, but I confess I am stuck. I currently copy all of my documents every day to a Dell desktop on my desk just to print them out.
The Canons are run through a Windows server, the FujiXerox has a standalone IP address and no separate print queue at the moment. Running OS10.6.2 on MacBook Pro. I'm happily connected to the network and can access all sharepoints and servers, I just can print to any of the printers - it's infuriating.
Is it a Firewall problem? Sub-net problems? Any ideas most welcome, thanks for looking and sorry if I've missed out anything important.MacJapan wrote:
After digging around I found the Windows drivers are ART EX drivers; obviously that doesn't really come in Macintosh flavour, but FujiXerox do have a non-postscript driver for the machine which I downloaded. This time I could connect via LPD, as FujiXerox recommend, but the print job stalls at the spooling stage; the error message reads that the 'Library/Printers/FujiXerox/Filter/FXPSACMMFilter.bundle/Contents/MacOS/FXPSACM MFilter' failed.
The filter bundle crashing could be related to permissions on the filter or a result of using a 32bit driver with a 64bit application.
For the permissions, you could opening Terminal and entering the following text;
sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/Printers/FujiXerox/Filter/
then press ENTER. You will be prompted to enter you user name and password. The user name needs to be an account that has admin rights to the Mac.
Exit Terminal and restart the Mac. Now try printing again.
Regarding the 64bit apps, these are the included SL apps like Preview, TextEdit and Safari. If you attempted to print with one of these apps when you got the error, you could try forcing the app to open in 32bit mode. This is done with the application closed. Locate the app with Finder and do a Get Info on the package (icon). There will be the option to 'Open in 32bit mode'. Select this, close the Get Info window and open the app. Now try a print.
Regarding the Non-Postscript driver, looking at the FJ drivers web site, there are two of these drivers available. Both are showing as version 1.1, but the dates are different. Have a look at the following link to see if you have the one with the most recent date.
http://onlinesupport.fujixerox.com/setupDriverForm.do?ctrycode=AU&lang_code=en&dlang=en&pid=DCIVC3370
Greg's suggestion to use the Generic PCL is also a good alternative. One thing I did find however with the PCL5c is that it does not print in colour, even though it would suggest it does based on the name (the c normally indicates colour).
Did you get the Canon LBP printing?

Refurbished Mac Pro and Intel Core Dual??
Quick question...
I got a refurbished MBP G4... can I upgrade to the Intel Core Dual? How would I do that and would it be spendy? I really want it!Glad you weren't offended.
Sometimes it's hard to sort out "kids" that are looking for the latest and greatest that don't fit their needs and just want mommy and daddy to buy them a 2K laptop because their friends have it.
Still keeping things constant, if I were you I would hold onto that Powerbook G4 as long as physically possible. If you do truly want to upgrade to the Intel Processors I would wait at the minimum for the release of Leopard in 2007 so that you don't waste money down the road in upgrades. This will also guarantee that you have the best computer for the time.
You may want to read a very beneficial post about the new Core 2 Duos here, something regarding the 64bit technology which may really only be 40bit, so you may even want to hold off even more.
The bottom line is that the Powerbook G4 is still a great machine, and can still be rendered very useful until a newer OS and newer release of the MacBook Pro line is out.
As I said before, there is no "upgrade" program. It would be financially stupid for a company to do that. It's not like cars that lose only a % of value when they're bought - computers basically retain no value once purchased. For instance, check eBay - there aren't many computers in "like new" condition for over $500 because the industry moves so fast that you may be able to get "brand new" with many upgrades for $600.
I think you need to really list your needs down on paper - and see which fits. A top of the line Mac Book may suit your needs and will still come in at a lower price then a bare bones Mac Book Pro (or about the same price)
The nice thing about the Intel processors is that you can install windows if you need it. Some people that need it all the time could even slip in a nice big HD and run equal partitions.
I personally try to stay as far away from windows as possible, but still have 1 or 2 programs that haven't moved to have mac support. For this I still use a desktop PC.
Last - Keep in mind that the Macromedia stuff won't run well on Intels yet, so another reason to wait if you will use their Dreamweaver programs.
Good Luck, and sorry for the blunt post earlier... -
Adobe Flash player 10 for Linux
I'm interested in: when will be available for download Adobe Flash Player 10 on Linux (Ubuntu) x64 station?
Hi, This is the latest that I have just finished reading tonight(well it is now 8/5/10 in my time zone) This is regarding the 64bit.

I have purchased a new i7-620M computer with a Windows 7 Professional w/XP mode 64 Bit OS (4GB Ram). Am I going to have a problem running Flash 10 and the Adobe Creative Suite 4? I need to know if I should change this to a 32bit OS as my main software is Adobe. If the 64 bit system will cause trouble is the 32bit system going to work?
Hi, WOW, sounds like a nice system:-) Regarding the 64bit/32bit. Since Adobe Flash Player is not supported on the 64bit yet, just use the 32bit browser that is your default browser. No need to change anything with your OS. You just need to use the 32bit browser when Installing Flash Player and when viewing Flash Content. I think if you right click on the IE icon in the task bar, you have a choice? Not sure about that, hard to remember. If you can't determine that, I'm sure I have a link for that also. Just let me know.
I don't use Creative Suite 4, but have read about it. I have a link that you may be able to take a look at for system requirements. If you were using it on your previous system and it was a 32bit system, I wouldn't see why there would be any problem. Whether you can use the 64bit browser, that I do not know.

Hopefully that site will give you the info.

Regarding 32bit and 64bit libraries
Hi,
Can any one please clarify my quries below.
1) What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit library.
2) How to identify the 32bit and 64bit library? Is there any naming convention fallowed?
3) From which version onwards of Sun Studio, 64 bit libraries are supported?
Regards,
VigneshThe platforms suppported by Sun compilers have both 32-bit and 64-bit modes of operation. The two modes cannot be mixed in a single program. A 64-bit platform can run 32-bit code, but not the other way around.
On the supported platforms, 32-bit mode is known a ILP32, meaning that types int, long, and pointer are all 32 bits. 64-bit mode is known as LP64, meaning that type int is still 32 bits, but types long and pointer are 64 bits. (Other systems, not supported by Sun compilers, can have different definitions.)
The 64-bit mode of the processors supports different instruction sets. The amd64 processor also has different register sets. The layout of objects is different in the two modes, and the way functions are called is different. (There are other differences as well.)
A program compiled in 32-bit mode must link to 32-bit libraries, not 64-bit libraries, for reasons which I hope are now obvious. A program compiled in 64-bit mode must link to 64-bit libraries.
The Sun compilers automatically link to the right library version of system libraries, as long as you use consistent options when compiling and linking. For example, you could build a 64-bit sparc program this way: CC -xarch=v9 -c f1.cc
CC -xarch=v9 -c f2.cc
CC -xarch=v9 f1.o f2.o -o myprog The 64-bit version of the various system runtime libraries will be linked automatically, given the -xarch=v9 option on each command line.
If you create both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of a library of your own, you must arrange to name them differently or put them in different subdirectories. If you give them the same name and put them in differrent subdirectories (which is the convention for system libraries on Solaris), you can use different -L options at link time to point to the right directory.
You can use the Solaris "file" command to find out whether a program or library is 32-bit or 64-bit.`
Example, this time on a Solaris Opteron system:
% file /usr/lib/libCrun.so.1
/usr/lib/libCrun.so.1: ELF 32-bit LSB dynamic lib 80386 Version 1, dynamically linked, not stripped, no debugging information available
78% file /usr/lib/amd64/libCrun.so.1
/usr/lib/amd64/libCrun.so.1: ELF 64-bit LSB dynamic lib AMD64 Version 1 [CMOV], dynamically linked, not stripped, no debugging information available -
Installation problem on windows server 2008 r2 datacenter edition 64bit
hi
today, i tried to install the current maxdb 7.8 release on my virtual server with a windows server 2008 r2 datacenter 64bit edition os. at the first installation, i got an error message something with "rte runtime error". at this point, the installation stopped.
because of this error, i tried to uninstall the failed installation. this was not possible, in the uninstaller, i didn't see any components, so i can't uninstall.
so i tried to delete the files manually: the entries in the start menu, and the application's path under "program files"... first, i need to kill a process named "serv.exe", that creates a tcp daemon under port 7200... after killing it, the deletion of the dir in program files was successful.
this is very very weird, now my server is "contaminated" with an uncomplete uninstallation of maxdb...
why maxdb 7.8 has problems on windows server 2008 r2 datacenter 64bit edition???
thanks for feedbacks!
regards, jan> no, because i canceled this virtual server - another method to solve this problem. (i have really no time for things like that..!)
If you take the time to give exact error messages then someone will be certainly able to help
> on windows server 2003, there are NO problems.
Windows 2003 != Windows 2008 - they use a different kernel, a different security system (UAC) and other features that may prevent a succesfull installation in the first place.
I installed a MaxDB 7.8 just today on Windows 2008 R2 and it worked fine.

My iPhone 4 will no longer back up in iTunes after my upgrade to Windows 7 64bit.
I used to have Windows XP 32bit and everything worked fine.
I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit and installed iTunes 64bit (I've also tried running the installer as administrator [in the compatibility properties]).
iTunes will recognise it with no problems and I can drag and drop anything I want to the iPhone, but I can't back up.
Software versions: iTunes v10.4.0.80, iPhone 4.3.5.
When I try to back up, the loading bar with either:
Have a loading bar with diagonal lines forever or,
it will start moving and freeze.
I've tried leaving the process for hours, but to no avail.
While the back up is being attempted, iTunes still retains full functionality.
I would exit by sliding the bar on my iPhone (iTunes will retain the loading bars as if frozen) and then unplug it. At this point iTunes takes a few seconds to drop the loading bar altogether, and the little screen will reset to normal functionality.
I believe this may be a iTunes-Windows thing as I did the following with my old laptop (Windows XP 32bit):
Installed iTunes for the first time.
Went into preferences and disabled the automatic backup option.
Plugged in the iPhone, right-click "back up".
The back up took less than 5 minutes.
I don't understand why my main PC can't back up my iPhone.
Can anyone help please?
I've tried researching the same problems and I've ended up doing the following:
Reinstalling iTunes,
Tried changing the iTunes installation folder to "Program Files" instead of "Program Files (x86)",
Deleting all contents from: "C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup",
Deleting the apps from my phone in case there are corrupt apps (doesn't make sense though as it backed up fine on my old laptop).
I would appreciate any suggestions!
Kind regards,
WillHi there,
I have the same issue. Usually hangs after 10K od sometimes after 18MB of backup file.
Config: iTunes 10.4., Win 7 64bit, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3
I tried all of these without success:
- deleted backups via iTunes / Preferences
- deleted backups from sync folder
- created a new admin user and tried to sync
- reinstalled iTunes
- ran all Windows updates, restarted, reinstalled iTunes
- ran iTunes / Diagnostics (says everything okay, only info which is strange: diag says I am not a admin user, which is not correct)
Nothing helped. Who can help. I hope someone from Apple can take care, as I seem not to be the only one. Actually iTunes is the worst part about iPhone. Hope with iOS 5 and Cloud sync to get rid of iTunes.
Any hints welcome,
Cheers,

RE: X1 Carbon windows 7 Professional 64bit error message
Hi, Good Morning Everybody, I wish somebody here would advise me of my problem, Thanks.
Problem of Laptop
=================
[Message 01]
Hi, I bought X1 Carbon and found an error message when right click on the
1st page after startup. The error message reads
Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library
Debug Assertion Failed!
Program: C:\Windows\System32\igfxsrvc.exe
File: D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\ATLMFC\INCLUDE\
atlcom.h
Line:2475
Expression: 0&& "Release called on a pointer that has already been
released"
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see
the Visual C++ documentation on asserts.
(Press Retry to debug the application)
By right, right click should show the menu of View, Sort by, Refresh,
......Screen resolution, Gadgets, Personalize, but just cannot access
into the right click menu immediately. I have to wait more 3 minutes and
get out of the error message, then the right click menu appear. Why is
this so?
Please advise how to eliminate the message and have the right click menu
immediately. Should I bring the laptop to your service center for repair
or you can email me the steps to solve this problem.

hi, head of customer service,
below is a chat log i had online for your review. My concern is that
everybody work for a living - if u r the specialist in this field, i
respect that u can foresee what is going to happen if u tell somebody who
is not a specialist to do a specialist's job. U should be able to provide
advice n the possible outcome if things do not work out right, because it
is the end user who needs to face it n live with it. Take for example, if
the office building was on fire n the human instinct is to fight fire
first. But the workers do not have the proper knowledge of fire n also
not equipped with good PPE. This worker probably called the fire
department to report a fire, n at the same time the fire department
specialist at the other end of the line told that worker to
"troubleshoot" the fire without giving him the possible outcome if the
fire blown out of scale, what price this worker will have to pay.
My questions are:
a) what is the goal of having on-line chat service? Is it to resolve
simple technical issues, that's why an average IT worker can do the job?
b) if the end user already knew the problem he is facing and he is
expecting the best advice/solution from an expert rather than from an
average IT worker, would it be better for the end user to go straight to
email? Or straight to the service center?
c) Is there a team work spirit between your chat section and service
center? Is it going to take a long time to communicate among themselves
when they face the same problem real time - meaning they can't talk to
each other over the phone to resolve the same problem which the end user
is facing? If they can discuss over the phone, and possibly the service
center also share the same steps to resolve the problem but could not be
sure if something goes wrong, the os of the laptop need to be
re-installed. Then, the end user would not have to do a double job - to
chat online and go down to the service center only find out that it is
the same answer. Would it be better for the chat person to do the double
job internally for the end user?

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6
I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?

SrikanthLooks like the first two warnings are security level warnings meaning that your silent install will not grant the correct security level for what ever reason. I suspect it needs admin level maybe?
Here is a link. Read #8 as it has to do with silent installs. The log will give you more hints on what you did wrong.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit upgrade to Windows 8 Pro RTM 64bit hangs
I am trying to upgrade Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on a Dell Alienware Aurora R3 desktop PC via DVD to Windows 8 Pro 64bit (RTM) and it freezes on the Windows Splash Screen after the installation and then after the restart. It looks like it has put the PC into
standby mode with the Windows logo frozen on one screen, however I cannot get PC out of 'sleep or hibernate mode' which is what it looks like it's done (flashing yellow Alienware logo).
When it happened the first time I had to manually shut it down and then restart it as the Win8 installation just stalled. After restart it said Windows 8 installation has failed and it successfully rolled back to my instance of Windows 7. I've
tried it again and it's done the same thing.
This is very frustrating as I did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64bit (RTM) on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z46GD laptop with no problems.
I have an Alienware Aurora R3 (only 8 months old):
Intel Core i7-2600K
8GB RAM
1.5GB Nvidia GeoForce GTX580Just thought the Win 8 upgrade would be easy so long after launch but I am getting all of the above! I have done the following:-
Disable options: XD-Bit Capability, Intel SpeedStep Technology and Intel
C-state Tech.
http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&docid=586909
Override the current Intel chipset, it appears to be the issue, and run this older one (Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, v.9.2.0.1015, A00) for now:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/alienware-aurora-r3?driverId=R284186&osCode=W764&fileId=2731115303
also install this: Renesas Integrated USB 3.0, v.2.0.4.0, A00
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/alienware-aurora-r3?driverId=R286402&osCode=W764&fileId=2731116122
Still it won't reboot/come out of sleep - is there no answer from Dell/Microsoft to get this working?

Error Installing InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT
Hello there-
I'm trying to install InDesign CS3 Server on Windows Server 2008 R2 64BIT (x64) Edition, however, we get a failure indication on the installer. Before, we have installed it properly on Windows Server 2008 R2 32BIT (x32) but some how we cannot proceed on a x64 box.
Is there any limitation on this sense? Any documentation about it?
Thanks and appreciate your answers.

Gustavo Ortega

Note: There is a File Upload limitation in IIS 7 on Windows 2008 Server, IIS will reject any file that is
larger than 30 MB. This is a default limitation of IIS. You can increase the maximum file size by
setting the parameter maxAllowedContentLength in the file ApplicationHost.config.
The following command can be used to set the parameter from the command prompt, please
change the directory to Windows\System32\inetserv and then execute the command.
appcmd setconfig /section:requestFiltering/requestLimits.maxAllowedContentLength:150000000
The value is only an example, in this case the upload limit is set to 150MB.Server has to be restarted
after execution of this command.
Also, are you using Maxdb to store the files or is it a "flat files" content server ?
HTH.

OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() not getting all rows from RDB using 64bit driver
I am using VS2012 Pro on Windows 7 (64-bit). I am migrating an older 32-bit VS2008 app to the new environment. I'm building for the .NET Framework 4.5.
The app queries an RDB database and uses the Oracle RDB drivers version 3.3.2.0. When I build as a 32-bit app and use the 32-bit Oracle RDB Driver, the query succeeds and returns all 341 data rows. When I built it as 64-bit and use the 64-bit driver, I only
get the first 101 rows.
Oracle says the problem is in the OdbcDataAdapter.Fill() method. I was able to confirm this. I created an OdbcDataReader and used the debugger to see what was being read, I can see all 341 rows, but when I use the DataAdapter.Fill (or DataSet.Load) method,
the results are truncated to 101 rows. Changing the SQL to query different tables does not change the problem. Below is a code sample:
private DataSet runQuery()
string connString32 = @"PROVIDER=MSDASQL;DRIVER={Oracle RDB Driver};SVR=myserver;DATABASE=ATTACH 'filename mydatabase';CLS=myclassname;uid=myusername;pwd=mypassword;xpt=2";
string connString64 = @"PROVIDER=MSDASQL;DRIVER={Oracle RDB Driver 64 Bit};SVR=myserver;DATABASE=ATTACH 'filename mydatabase';CLS=myclassname;uid=myusername;pwd=mypassword;xpt=2";
string sql = "SELECT person_id FROM person_tab";
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
using (OdbcConnection conn = new OdbcConnection(connString64))
OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(sql, conn);
OdbcDataAdapter da = new OdbcDataAdapter();
da.SelectCommand = cmd;
conn.Open();
da.Fill(ds, "myDataSet");
return ds;
Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you get around it?Hello,
Since I do not have the RDB database, I made a test with both 32bit and 64bit ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server and query for 1000 records, however, both of them can work fine.
As far as I know, the ODBC is just a component as a bridge to connect the driver and the application and since you are use the Oracle RDB driver, I suggest you posting it to the Oracle forum:
