Regarding performance optimization and tuning...

hi all,
<b>please provide me the performance tuning scenarios and parameters of an R/3 system with Oracle..</b>
i heartly welcome all docs and pdf links or notes related to this issue..
please provide ur suggestions at the earliest...
expecting ur response..

Hello,
there are many SAP Notes regarding performance issues. Here are just a couple of them:
618868
805934
793113
805934
Please also have a look at the lists of the relating Notes at the end of each Note.
But still much more effective would be to read the book of
<a href="http://www.sap-press.de/katalog/buecher/titel/gp/titelID-1155?GalileoSession=66220888A2.lRCIISlE">T.Schneider Performance Optimization Guide</a>.
It's the best performance tuning guide. The course ADM315 (or BC315?) ist also very helpful.

  • Can i use "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning " training for getting certification on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054"

    i have taken "Oracle Database 12c: Performance Management and Tuning new" training from oracle university. Now i would like to get certified on "Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning 1Z0-054" exam. Is it possible ?

    I essentially endorse and refer you to Matthews' and John's post above.
    I would differ with slightly with Matthew because my guess is you would often be able to use like for like 12c training for an 11g certification ( I believe there are precedents).  BEFORE ANYONE ASKS THE OTHER WAY DOESN'T HAPPEN.
    .... but totally concur with Matthew you would ill advised to procede on that basis without one of:
    - This being advertised as possible on the website : e.g. https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=654&get_params=p_id:169 ... option 2 show courses.
    - Confirmation from Brandye
    - Confirmation from an Oracle Certification Support Web Ticket ( http://education.oracle.com/pls/eval-eddap-dcd/OU_SUPPORT_OCP.home?p_source=OCP )
    ... The more common (and in my opinion usually better) way would be get your 11g DBA OCP ( or higher first) and then take the 1z0-054.  I am almost certain they will accept your 12c course for the 11g DBA OCP.
    If you are choosing the route of not being a 11g (or 12c ) DBA OCP first but are on option 2 and relying on the course for certification then the issue is more in the balance and you are even more strongly advised to get confirmation before proceding (remember if the rules need to be changed for you only then any profit out of the exam is lost).
    In general my understanding is Oracle would prefer to encourage people to train on the latest version of product that is available for training  and will prefer to avoid restrictions which would cause you to train at a lower version.  ( This is simply my guess at Oracle University Policy ... personal opinion only).
    Having said all I have said I'd encourage you to go with the advice of the earlier two posts.

  • Oracle 11g SE One Performance Monitoring and Tuning

    I've recently "downgraded" a couple databases from Enterprise Edition to Standard Edition One and in doing so lost the use of Grid Control, specifically Performance Pack. Now, of course, monitoring and tuning, is a bit more cumbersome.
    Can anyone offer advice on methods specific to Standard Edition One for monitoring/tuning databases? Specific SQL statements you use, 3rd party software, built-in packages in the database that can be used?

    There are a large number of performance views that can be queried, and if you capture the current values, wait a known amount of time (whether 1 minute or an hour) and then recapture the current values, you can determine by how much the statistics have changed over the time period. Do not query the views that begin with either "DBA_HIST_" or "DBA_ADVISOR_", since those views belong to the extra cost licenses that are only available with the Enterprise Edition (access to the views is audited).
    You could, for instance, track the changes in the time model statistics, and use that as a basis to determine if anything else should be examined. It would probably also make sense to track the changes in the various non-idle wait events. If you have a Windows client PC, you can experiment with one of the scripts that I wrote which tracks changes to the time model statistics, changes to the OS statistics, and changes to the wait events:
    http://hoopercharles.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/working-with-oracle%e2%80%99s-time-model-data-3/
    If you do not have a Windows client PC, you might be able to determine how the script works and build your own solution.

  • Profiling and performance optimization

    This subject realy sucks in the CLDC/j2me world. Profiling in the emulator is useless, and on the device, you simply can't do it. System.currentTimeMillis() might give you some hits, but is the overhead of printing this (in my case to a comm port) is to large for the testet function, you are out of options... What to do then?
    Well, with this topic, I would like to ask for some help om the possibilities of profiling j2me devices.
    I'm currently working on a compression algorithm te compress log data. I found one that doesn't use a lot of memory and managed to incorporate it in my CLDC programme: ( It uses Arithmatic compression, got it from http://www.mandala.co.uk/biac/index.html ).
    The problem is: Althouth the source is very compact and fairly simple, it still is very slow om my device (they claim it can do about 700 lines of java code/sec, but I think it is a bit more).
    Solution: optimize, but how if you don't know where to start? Well, the algorithm is simple enough to have a look at it, and optimize by trail and error... luckilly I remenberd some things I leaned on a cource about image manipulation (in C).
    So, next is a list of simple things you can do to to optimze your code, in sections where every byte of code executed is crucial:
    - try to find out what code is executed often or takes a lot of time; look at loops and calculations.
    - instead of x*2 use x<<1, instead of x/2 use x>>1, etc.
    - try to manually unroll loops (you might first try out how often the loop runs to test who for to unroll it
    - if the same calculation is used more than ones, just caclulate the value ones, and then just use that value in the other calculations in stread of caclulating it over and over. If those values are static, declare them static.
    - if possible manually inline short functions. You might even use a preprocessor (in cobination with ant or somthing) and use macro's
    - simplt try to do more with less code
    - if you often devide though a fixed number, try to multiply with the inverted (thisis not always possible in j2me because only integer math is available). This is faster on most devices.
    - Use array's if you have to acces lare amounts of data. Vectors and such are much slower.
    - Use compiler and obfuscator to optimize and shrink your code.
    Most of them are very obvious, but often you just forget about it.
    Well, all in all, my compression algorithm got at fair bit faster, but it is still to slow. I guess I'm going to tweak it a little more ;)
    Hope you guys can do something with it. If you have some more tips, just let me know!

    Good day,
    As I tried, there are two ways of doing printPreview.
    To handle this problem, add only one page at a time.
    To browse through the page use Prev Page, Nexe Page buttons in the toolbar.
    1) BufferedImage - occupies memory .
    Class PagePreview extends JPanel
    public void paint(Graphics g) {
    g.setColor(getBackground());
    g.fillRect(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight());
    g.drawImage(m_img, 0, 0, this);
    paintBorder(g);
    This gives better performance, but consumes memory.
    2) getPageGraphics in the preview panel . This occupies less memory, but re-paint the graphics everytime when paint(Graphics g) is called.
    Class PagePreview extends JPanel
    public void paint(Graphics g)
    g.setColor(Color.white);
    RepaintManager currentManager = RepaintManager.currentManager(this);
    currentManager.setDoubleBufferingEnabled(false);
    Graphics2D g2 = scrollPanel.getPageGraphics();
    currentManager.setDoubleBufferingEnabled(true);
    g2.dispose();
    This addresses memory problem, but performance is better.
    Is there any additional info from you?
    Good Luck,
    Kind Regards,
    Krish

  • How similar is the performance and tuning 1z1-064 (12c) to the 1z0-054 (11g)?

    I had taken the Oracle 11g performance and Tuning class from Oracle.
    I am just wondering how close the 1z1-064 will be to the 1z0-054.
    I am also studying for the 1z1-064 exam.
    Are there any books out yet, or just the otn material.
    Thanks Roger

    Hopefully John Watson will pipe in on this.  I know he has taken both exams.  He recently noted on the OraFAQ forum that he had taken both the 1Z0-063 and 1Z0-064 beta exams.  His comments about them there were:
    "I would say that looking at the exams as a whole, there is a huge improvement over the 10g and 11g equivalents. The new exams cover a lot more material in a lot greater detail, and are a lot harder. These 12c exams are a Good Thing for the profession. They should filter out a lot of exam-cram only DBAs"
    It's not clear to me how much of that comment was directed at 063 and how much at 064. The topic list for 063 is much larger than that for 053.  However, the topic list for 064 is actually a bit smaller than that of 054.

  • Can anybody recommend useful performance and tuning books.   I plan to take the 12c perf tune beta on March 21st

    Can anybody recommend any useful performance and tuning books.
    I should probably limit my search to 11g or higher.
    I am starting to prep for the 12c perf and tuning beta I have scheduled on March 21st.

    Hi,
    I will review your review.
    I do see this Oracle 12c book at Amazon written over a year ago.

  • Performance doubt: Manual tuning or Oracle tuning features?

    Hi all,
    I'm reading some docs regarding performance, and most of then mention and recommend the use of the Oracle tuning features, as SQL Access Advisor, SQL Performance Analyzer, SQL Tuning Sets and so on. What i want to know from the most experienced dbas here is if you use these performance features from Oracle, or if you prefer to perform tuning tasks "by hand"?. By hand i mean checking the explain plan, checking statistics, index seletivity, histograms and so on.
    Thanks in advance.

    Fabricio_Jorge wrote:
    Another simple doubt/question: What would be your tuning strategy? For example, what a commonly do is:
    1) Check the object statistics.Yes, make sure statistics are current. The tricky part is that I have heard enough stories (not seen this myself) about new stats messing up performance that I prefer to save off the old stats before generating new ones - just in case
    2) Check if the columns used in the predicates are indexed, and if not, i check the seletivity of then to see if an index creation would be efficient.This is probably my most effective tuning technique. I check the selectivity but create the index anyway to see what happens with it in place. Sometimes even though a new index is created the optimizer won't use it, and in other cases the index does not help performance even when the optimizer uses it. Any changes must be carefully checked.
    3) If it is possible, create a materialized view with the query rewrite feature.I use MVs, but as a later resort. I prefer instead to recode SQL if possible to get better results to avoid having yet another database object to keep track of. With luck the optimizer can use the automated query rewrite capability to avoid changing the original SQL.
    >
    4) If it is a RAC env, i try to increase the CACHE value of the sequencesI have not worked on many RAC environments and when I have did not have much to do with sequences. I did learn that select list inline views often perform poorly compared to equivalent queries using table joins (not specifically a RAC issue)
    >
    5) Check the Memory and Segment Advisors and hit ratios, taking the necessary procedures, if the advisors indicate so.I am not usually given privileges to use these tools. I have gotten good results from the SQL tuning advisor when I can use it but have seen it miss things so I prefer to manually analyze SQL.
    >
    6) After all of this, i would try to tune the query by rewriting it. I leave this as a last option because generally you must know the data/env of the company that you are allocated. If you don't know the env very well, you can make bad recommendations about a specific
    query.Doing the rewrite is something I do earlier in the process due to the fact that I rarely get DBA privilege on my projects and don't get access to some of the tools you mentioned. I can (hopefully) control SQL so I focus on it. Sometimes I cannot control SQL and have to rely on materailzed views, indexes, and other environmental factors to help SQL run faster.
    >
    OBS: All of this is done in parallel with the Statspack/AWR report "on hand"AWR is a great tool to use for tuning. OEM (which I rarely get access to) is another.
