Regarding Requests to change a user alias / username / displayed name

Has there been any progress in developing a way to change the name displayed on discussion posts? I didn't realize my full name would appear on my postings and would very much like to edit this on my profile. The posted answer I found that it wasn't passible to do this goes back to 2008. Any news on this?? Thanks.

This page was created after MobileMe started up.
At first it was an @Mac.com name for iChat only
Later it had an option to make it an Apple ID as well.
Now in the last few Months it has become an Automatic step in the process to AN Apple ID as well.
As people don't always want to link all their On-line apps to one ID but also don't want to create more Email address it has become a problem in iChat.
I have raised this issue higher up.
My point is though that you can make an New @Mac.com ID and it is a Apple ID
(I have not looked into changing it to a MobileMe Account linked name at a later stage which seemed to be the middle/previous method).

Is there any update on this request? It is coming up on two years since your announcement was posted. Looking through this forum, this seems to be a very common, frequent and popular request. For privacy reasons, I can see a great need for the ability to change one's alias.
The current alternatives (create new alias, let old one fade away, etc.) are not acceptable.
Please provide an update on the progress of this request.

This is not a bug, it is a design choice. I have stated that we are looking at this option, but so far the we have not made a decision to change it. We continue to evaluate it, and if there is a change made it will be communicated at that time. Until then I cannot give an ETA because it is possible that this will never change.

How can OIM provision users with same Display Name in AD?

I can create users with same First Name, Middle Name and Last Name (same Display Name) in OIM if they have different UserId.
But I can not provision two users with same Display Name to one Organization Unit in AD, the resource provisioning shows

Response: AD user already exists
Can AD be configured to create users with same Display Name (different UserId) in one OU, or would I have to create logic in OIM to modify the display name so it gets accepted by AD?

Thanks Nitesh. Also, I can create the user with same DN in different OU's, not in same OU.
I agree once we determine that same cn exists in one OU , I can modify the display name by appending a number at the end or something. I understand the logic but I need more details on how to specify this logic in the pre-pop adapter, can you please share more details.

Changing a user's username programatically

Hi, I'm currently working on a java method to update a user's information on portal. I've been pretty successful using wwsec_oid.update_user_profile, but that doesn't (as far as i can tell) allow you to change a users' username. Is there a better way to change the name a user logs in as?

Apparently the secret is to change the user's name in LDAP, rather than using a stored procedure. Here's the java code i used:

I use the default model, and when trying to set the Display Name in the View Properties (a train stop), in the train task flow, i can not select a resource boundle key in the expression builder.
If I set something like:

I am trying to create an Flash Air application whereby users

You can just create your new user as required, then do an import with the parameters
fromuser=olduser touser=newuser
plus whatever other parameters you require.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

CUP: Request type change account- Change of user data other than roles

Hi Experts,
I am using the request type change account to change the user type and/or validity of the user. In the description of this request type it says I can use it to request additional access and other changes to an account. Yet when i try to change user validity.. CUP asks me to select one role when I try to submit the request..
Is there any thing else that I need to do so that the request type works for account changes as well?

Hi,
Go to End Configuration -> End user personlization, select the checkbox next to 'Roles' and click on change. Change the 'Manadatory' dropdown to 'No'. Now, save the changes and create the change request.

Ramifications of changing every users SIP address - Everything will break??

Currently we have everyone's meetings set to their AD username, which is also everyone's SIP sign-in address. That was not a very good idea when we started out, as now it will cause us more work because we will soon change everyone's SIP address to
their email address. I think this is easy to do, but....
This will break every single users conferences. Either existing or when they create new ones as it uses the users AD username. We want everyone's meet URL to automatically update with their new SIP account format. Can this be easily powershelled
so the user never notices anything? What other issues could this cause, if any?
Also, everyone will need to re-add all of their federated external contacts. To me this is a minor fix compared to the above.
Also, also, can anyone say what other thinks will break when we make this change? I read up online and the major issues that jumped out where the above. What would be the other major/minor headaches.

I assume you will change the UserName field,
here are some important points to consider however:
a.
As you stated, the scheduled Meetings will be Break. This means that any scheduled meetings would need to be updated so that users are able to join without issue.
b.
The users must use the new SIP address to sign back, and if
the new SIP address does not match the users UserPrincipleName (UPN) in Active Directory, they will be prompted for credentials on sign-in
Scenario 2
I assume you will change the SIPDomain,
here are some important points to consider however:
a.
As you stated, the scheduled Meetings will be Break. This means that any scheduled meetings would need to be updated so that users are able to join without issue.
b.

(Important) You have to add the additional Sip domain in Lync Topology and publish topology.

(Important) Create DNS records for the new simple URLs, both internal and external.

(Important) Request new certificates for the following:
     •Front End Server Certificate (internal)
     •Edge Server Certificate (external)
     •Reverse Proxy Certificate (external)

(It’s not your problem, but it is important too.) Lync will look at your primary SMTP address and attempt to use it to find the EWS URL via Autodiscover after signing in. If the SIP address is different with the Primary
SMTP address, you have to configure additional SRV record for Autodiscover per SIP domain.

We are only changing the [email protected] So instead of [email protected], the new sip sign in address will change for everyone to [email protected] = the users current email address. We are not chaining the SIP domain,
that will remain the same.
So besides meetings and federation breaking, any other issues we need to be concerned about?

Unable to log in to the user account [username] at this time

My Powerbook G4 is running Mac OS X 10.4.11
Processor: 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4
Memory: 768 MB DDR SDRAM
Startup Disk Macintosh HD
Serial # 4H511OAJRJ5
Capacity 74.4 GB
Available: 2.3 GB
My problems began when I had a warning message that read something like, “your startup disk is getting full. Delete some files”
Around the same time my battery was showing signs of being spent (wouldn’t take a full charge) and would shutdown my powerbook in the middle of operation. I replaced the battery within 12 hours, rebooted, and everything seemed normal; I could log in and access all programs, files, photos, music, etc. The error message reappeared to deletes some files. I ran TechTool Deluxes and it suggested repairing my Volume Directory. There were a few suggestions in green and one in red. I accepted the ones in green and made the changes. It reopened TechTool and ran again, this time everything showed up as a “red” (drastic) directory change. I did not accept. I shut down. I rebooted, and that is when my heart sank.
My account log in screen appeared (I have my master account and a “test” account available) and I entered my log in password. After several moments, the message “You are unable to log in to the user account [username] at this time.” I can log in to my “test” account but I have not been able to access any of my files from that account. Also, my Test account appears to be running Panther instead of Tiger; could that be? Anyway, I read some similar problem posts here and was hopeful that DiskWarrior could help restore me. I purchased and ran it successfully (at least DiskWarrior said it was a success) but I still have the same results.
I tried to access both my caches folder and my Desktop folder from my “test” account, but these are the error messages I received:
The folder “Caches” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
The folder “Desktop” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.

You need to develop a full backup plan. Get an external hd and backup to it.

run batcmd from an admin account to let you change permissions.
From an administrator account enable root & be careful. This will let you look at any file on the system & delete everything!!!

As an aside, I just noticed that the button to "apply to all enclosed items' is greyed out. I started checking other folders and best I can tell, all folders on my startup volume will not allow me to apply any permission changes to all enclosed items. Think this might have something to do with the alias issue?
I noticed that my "apply to all enclosed items' button is greyed out too. I use BatChmod fps instead.
Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
# Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /var/db
pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.

reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!
