Regarding SAP supporting modules

Hi all,
My client is interested to implement SAP for shipping project. The system should be able to cater jetty, container terminals, Finance, HR, Logistics, Warehouse etc. It should also be able to integrate with multiple legacy systems developed earlier on J2EE technologies. Does SAP supports all the specified modules integrations? If not? Suggest me the other alternative please.

Yes the SAP system supports all the modules which you have mensioned above.So in order to integrate these modules u would have different steps to follow integration and also interfaces to carry. Yes SAP supports all the specified module integration. See to that the basis consultants and abapers set the interfaces and other settings correctly.

Considering the generic information you have provided, It looks SAP can deal with it. SAP is able to integrate with multiple legacy systems developed earlier on J2EE technologies. I have worked on one such project and it worked perfectly fine.

If you are working in a support project you can get expertise on the modules that are been used in that specific project.It all depends on the project which you are working or going to work.
In support projects you can expect lot of work if the project is not stabilised , and on the other hand you may not have hands on enough work if the project is stabilised.
Comming to Modules in HCM, as I said earlier each client will have different modules and based on country specific too. If you are suppporting US clients then you will get a chance to work on OM PA TIme, Payroll ( some time upto gross calculations, and some times till net calculation) Travell, and Benefits. Compensation management, LSO, PD , TE will be used by some clients. Same with Indian and UK Clients too. It all depends on client and project which we are working on.

I've seen quite a lot of similar posts on this subject, hope my views (not necessary to be accpeted) will be helpful for others who are in process of deciding to switch over to SAP.
To be honest I would say think twice before you take this step of taking up the certification/switch in any module of SAP.
1) Would you want to forgo the experience/recognition you've gained all these years in your core field? Agreed that your experience and present profile counts/helpful but would you be ready/comfortable with it?
2) Are you ready to compete with people who have less domain experience compared to you but were lucky to be in SAP field quite early?
3) Taking/Clearing the certification exam after undergoing the course for some one new to the ERP packages is REALLY stressfull. Put in the situation where you might take some time (25-30 days) off from present job (which you haven't quit yet), certification fees (INR 300000 or more!), personal constraints......
4) There's no gaurantee that you will be placed immediately.
5) Getting into SAP is not just sufficient, you need be really stirve hard and be updated with the all new dimension products. There always something new every 6-12 months in your own module.
6) If you get placed, people would always prefer to work on an implementation projects rather than support ones and the company you join may not have good projects this could result in frustation.
7) As a consultant people you are expected to give the best solution and to get there you need to work hard. If you want to live upto the expectation 8-10 years of industry experience alone doesn't help in solution delivery, hands on experience in SAP is required and to get that it costs your time.
It's not that I want to scare you all away from SAP, I've gone through some of the above and fortunately my experience has been good.
To hear more positive side of it (was mine negative?) I would suggest you to talk to authorised institute guys like Seimens/Genovate (in India), they do give some good advice (sometimes!)

Basically, the concept of logbook is to update shift activities & measures during Plant Maintenance without SAP. but in SAP, What i know about the Log book in SAP PM is : It is an industry specific feature, before it was only used in (IS- Aeronautical). but now it is available in ECC 6.0 also. To activate this node, we need to update the patch 2.0 in ECC 6.0

Dump regarding 'Error in module RSQL 'in dynamic internal table

Here is a Dump regarding 'Error in module RSQL of the database interface'.My program runs fine if 100 rows is getting selected from SAP Table.But for mass selection program is giving Dump. The program has dynamic selection of any SAP Table with dynamic selection ranges.I have attached below snippet code for your understanding and analysis.

Are you checking in the debugger mode?
Error CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB comes when there is any pause between select and endselect.
one more thing use INTO in place of APPENDING.
SELECT (i_field_select)
 FROM (p_table)
 into CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE <fs_table_tmp>
 PACKAGE SIZE p_packet.
 append LINES OF <fs_table_tmp> INTO TABLE <fs_table> .
 Refresh <fs_table_tmp> .
ENDSELECT.
Please let me know what is the value of p_packet.
also have you created the table <fs_table_tmp> and <fs_table> of same type . Please check

2.What is the purpose (actual need) of this tool? And is it useful to SAP MM

3.For which Business Process SAP Implementation, this Tool (ARIS) can be implemented? ( I mean for which industry sector this tool can be implemented or used)
4.Pls explain any business Senario using this ARIS Tool for SAP MM module implementation...
5.Is this a thirdparty tool, or who's product it is?

ARIS - stands for ARchitectur Integrated Systems.
This is proprietary tool fof IDS Sheer AG,
In layman's words we can say its a tool create Flow charts.
In business we don't say these as flow charts but as EPC chains.
EVENT PROCESS CHAIN
This is a Designing tool of any kind of activity,from 4.6b ( i guess) SAP has Plug in to ARIS tool even.
For eg: If i wanna go and buy Sandwich,eat and come back to home.
its vey simple to say but if you map this in EPC.. there are lot of things come in picture.
steps
1) I get up from desk
2) Walk out of thehouse
3) Start my car
4) drive my car to XX place
5) I buy sandwich
6) Should i eat or carry out
if eat - pay for it
     look for vacant seat
     eat sandwich
      get out towards car
      drive back to home
If Carry out
Pay for it
get out towards car
drive back to home
Eat sandwich...
it still depends on how micro level control you need .
for eg: in the above process we can also include
1) pick up my car key
2) Wear shoes etc etc....
Basic aim of this tool we donot miss any event ,and to have standard predefined process flow.

Is SAP support job is Good For future??

I got a job offer as a SAP support on multiple modules[MM,SD,ABAP]. Company bond is 4 years[company is trusted] and i need to work on as a SAP support for 4 year[no implemention].
Is SAP support have a future or not?tell me the growth and salary after 4 year.I don't have a SAP certificate and course, but i have done my java course. Tell me can i accept job offer or not. Salary is 2.4 lakhs per annum and then 3.6lakhs per annum then 3rd and 4th year not so much growth.
Plz plzz reply me what knowlegde u have abt SAP support.

I am into SAP from the past 6 years.
Future in SAP is always best. I have seen many consultants rising with good track in there career.
Your friend RAJ is so lucky that without any SAP background, he got an opportunity in it.
I suggest you people to utilize it.
Don't think really SAP Support means - you need to provide your services only for existing developments. Apart from the existing developments you received new developments as part of Support project.
Currently I am working in Support project but literally speaking I worked on only 5% of the existing developments, but 95% worked on all the new developments.
As you said RAJ has to work on different modules - yes of course as SAP consultants we can stick to only one module. If a consultant has multiple modules then his demand would grow to high in the point of opportunities.
Never think that you have to be in Support project on different modules for 4 or more years. Just think that you don't have offer in your hand now, then what is your approach? What are you going do? Are you going to learn any technology? If yes, how are the openings for the technology you have choose after you complete your training?
Just ask these questions to yourself? If you really don't want to waste time and want to click soon in your career then you have the option already waiting for you to move to SAP.
SAP is always king in ERP industry. The growth, onsite opportunities, challenging career etc will always be there here. The only thing you need to do is - Dedication, Hardworking and Updating your self on different modules always.

SAP Support Restrictions

I have a challenge in the remediation phase of my current rebuild of RAR rule set. I have joined the company and tasked to provision access in a controlled fashion to the SAP support team. Here I have found that there are no depths in the support model and the people on the 1st line support and 3rd line support are not far attached from access rights requirements. We have created posting custom rules as the first part of the project and removed these accesses from them, leaving them with the non posting access on their normal ID and all the rest within their module on their fire fighter. We have only shifted the risk to fire fighter but I donu2019t believe we have accomplished anything. I want to put a controlled support framework in place that does not misuse SPM. How do you restrict access on SAP Support areas in your company?

Thanks for the reply. This is what we are currently doing, but we have found that the support useru2019s access on the fire fighter are still to open ended and that the support users constantly log onto this user to do daily support and just stays logged on. We have seen that the users do functions on this id that are not stated in the reason code when logging on. Making the Fire Fighter owner just signing of pages and pages of reports not really interrogating them as is required u2013 Due to time restraints
Any other cool ideas of creating a support access model that fits audit requirements.

Does SAP support Solaris 10 ZFS filesystem when using DB2 V9.5 FP4?

Hi,
I'm installing NW7 (BI usage). SAPINST has failed in the step "ABAP LOAD due to the DB2 error message
"Unsupported file system type zfs for Direct I/O". It appears my Unix Admin must have decided to set these filesystems as ZFS on this new server.
I have several questions requiring your expertise.
1) Does SAP support ZFS filesystems on Solaris 10 (SPARC hardware)? I can not find any reference in SDN or Service Market Place? Any reference will be much appreciated.
2) How can I confirm my sapdata fielsystems are ZFS?
3) What actions do you recommend for me to resolve the SAPINST errors? Do I follow the note "Note 995050 - DB6: NO FILE SYSTEM CACHING for Tablespaces" to disable "Direct I/O" for all DB2 tablespaces? I have seen Markus Doehr's forum Link:[ thread|Re: DB2 on Solaris x64 - ZFS as filesystem possible?; but it does not state exactly how he overcame the error.

I have also found the command "zfs list" that would display any ZFS filesystems.
We have also gone back to UFS as the ZFS deployment schedule does not meet this particular SAP BW implementation timeline.
Has any one come across any SAP statement that states NW7 can be deployed with ZFS for DB2 database on Solaris SPARC platform. If not, I'll open an OSS message.

The correct IDOC type should be FIDCC1 / FIDCC2.

Migration and SAP Support for BW 3.1

I have couple of queries regarding Migration and SAP Support.
What is the required patch level that need to be mantained in BW 3.1 for a direct upgrade to BI 7.
I would like to know whether SAP still supports BW 3.1. I searched in SAP Service marketplace, but didn't get much information regarding this.

Netviewer crashes my dell pc when trying to connect to sap support

Hi all, if this is in the wrong place, please move it.
I have had a problem that my pc crashes (blue screen) after i initiate netviewer online to connect to sap support. it is a pain because we have to use an older product and the response time is slow. i contacted netviewer directly and they sent me this fix, which has worked perfectly.

This is a known issue. When Netviewer starts on a Dell computer, the application produces a blue screen. What is causing this?
This phenomenon occurs only on Dell PCs with a preinstalled Windows operating system.
The file that causes a blue screen is no longer installed. The integrated sound card is from IDT (www.idt.com) but the file "ctAudDrv.sys" belongs to Creative Labs Advanced Audio FX Engine.
Remove the problem as follows:
Rename the file "ctAudDrv.sys" to "ctAudDrv.sys.bak" under "C:WindowsSystem32Drivers".
Restart the PC.
Download and install the appropriate audio driver from the Dell website at www.dell.com, for example: ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/IDT_92HDxxx-HD-Audio_A06_R213367.exe

PS - not the first time the OEM Build of Windows for DELL has caused problems. I personally find it's better to update/upgrade to an off the shelf version of Windows.

Reason and Prerequisites
To avoid problems while using the configuration wizard (template installer )please check prerequisites for post-installation in SAP documentation. That information can be found in SAP Help Portal (http://help.sap.com --> SAP Netweaver --> Installation and Upgrade guide --> Installation --> 2 - Installation - SAP Netweaver 2004s --> SAP NetWeaver 2004s Installation Documentation).
Select your Operating System and Database and look for 'Post-Installation Steps for Usage Type *' in the dedicated document.
Important: You cannot use the configuration wizard after
Upgrade
Add-In installation (Exception: Configuration of Usage Type BI-Java can be executed after Add-In Installation)
Additional usage type enablement

Always install the latest available SPS + Patches before running the CTC.( You can find the latest LMTOOLS Patch at http://service.sap.com -> SAP Support Portal -> Downloads (Tab) -> Downloads (Menue) -> Support Packages and Patches -> Search for Support Packages and Patches -> Search for: LMTOOLS*P -> Download and Save the .sca. Apply the patch by using the SDM.)
The sequence is:
1. Installation
2. Install latest SPS + Patches (if available)
3. Run configuration wizard.
You can run the configuration wizard only once for initial configuration.
In these cases, you need to perform the corresponding configuration steps as described in the configuration documentation.
