  • How to start a career path in Sap

Hi, i need advice in selecting Sap career path. I am a Eng.(ECE) degree holder(2005). I have 2+ years of experience in Development(Java).  I am not working for the 5 Years. I want to start my career on SAP. Would anyone please advice me for selecting a SAP module and where to start?
    Please advice me in this
    Thank you
    Dhivya

    Hi Dhivya,
I saw your post and thought of responding you, it might be late but still I am replying to your query.
You should take sometime in exploring the different modules available in SAP and the modules currently high in demand. This will help you in taking a module to start learning/training.
The most important thing to keep in mind while taking a module to proceed is the job opportunity and your interest in that area.
    Thank you,

  • Starting a Career as a DBA

    Hello,
I'm new to the DBA community and I've always wanted to learn more about DBA and what DBA's do. I have a few questions to ask and hopefully some of you who are familiar with this field can enlighten me on this subject.
    1. Is there a major difference between learning the basic's of 8i/9i though a classroom than going to the book store and getting a book on the subject? Are there things in the classroom that they don't teach you in the book.
My dilema is that I don't want to spend $2000 for a 5-day class if I can learn the same from $450 CD-ROM or $150 from a module from Amazon.com
    2. In researching current job openings for DBA's and Oracle Certified Professionals, how does one aquire an entry level position as a DBA? Most job openings list that they want someone with 5+ years experience?
If I were to start a career today where would I need to go to get that experience is my question.
Thanks in advance for your answers I really appreciate it.
    Michael Walker

I agree with what Mark and Bill have said. I would like to add the following:
    1. Is there a major difference between learning the basic's of 8i/9i though a classroom than going to the book store and getting a book on the subject? Are there things in the classroom that they don't teach you in the book.
If you do decide to go to a class I'd recommend setting up your own database and familiarizing yourself with how it works before you
go. You'll be able to understand what's being discussed in class better and may have questions to ask the instructor that you weren't
able to answer yourself. This way after class when you're working with a database you don't say to yourself "I wish I would've asked
    the instructor..."
    2. In researching current job openings for DBA's and Oracle Certified Professionals, how does one aquire an entry level position as a DBA? Most job openings list that they want someone with 5+ years experience? If I were to start a career today where would I need to
go to get that experience is my question.
Where I work all of the DBA's have come up through the development ranks first. I worked for 3 years as a developer before becoming
a member of our DBA staff. During my time as a developer I let the DBA's and managers know that becoming a DBA was a goal of mine.
I think it also helps if you can demonstrate you have good knowledge of database concepts and have some knowledge of the operating
system the database runs on. From talking to other's I think it's a fairly common practice to select beginning DBA's from in-house staff.
Most other DBA's I know outside of where I work started as developers. Some have started as System Administrators but in those cases
they have maintained a dual role as SA and DBA.
    Good luck!

  • Starting my career in SAP

    Hi everyone,
I've just started my career as SAP Business Analyst, and I'm a fresh graduate (Sales and Distribution - SD). I believe learning is a continuous process and find this forum a great place to socialize and learn from fellow SAP professionals.
I would appreciate if anyone could navigate me to a forum section that has discussion related to my area.
That's all from me, have a great day!

  • Starting a career in SAP

    Hi friends
I am student from networking background with CCNA certification, but now I would like to choose my career in SAP.
I haven't got any idea where to start with and which version of SAP suits to my technical background.
Could any one of u please suggest me the best possible first step.

    Hi !
Suitability-wise, the people from technical areas are generally recommended for SAP Basis, ABAP and Java based on previous background. Though there isn't anything directly suitable for you. SAP Basis (SAP System Administration) may be the right choice for you.
And about the starting point, there is no direct answer. Entering into an SAP career by choice is really difficult. There was a time in late 90s when you could expect to get 100% placement after doing a certification course. The time has changed now and the SAP market is very competitive. The demand for the SAP consultants is increasing and the industry needs good consultants but for the experienced and specialized who can help them to achieve their goals. The experts differ on how you should approach the problem of launching yourself into an SAP career. There is a lot of debate about the worthiness of SAP certification and believe me nobody can give you a straightforward answer. After weighing the pros and cons only you can make this choice. You can go through this educational resource which will shed some light on these doubts so that you can make an informed choice : http://www.best-career-guide-for-erp.com/sdn

There is no mandatory rules that you need to have HR domain experience to become SAP HR.  Go for SAP HCM certification and search a job then it will be big advantage to get a job.

  • Req suggestion to start up Career for SAP consultant

    Hi all,
Can u suggest me how can I start up my career as SAP Consultant in SD or WMS, I have 7 + years of  Experience in Both the modules as End user now I want to start up my career as consultant... Can u plp guide me how to Start up and what are required for the same?

    Hello Surender,
It good that you have chosen a path to be an SAP Consultant.
As a end user for more than 7 years, you will be familiar with business process and with SAP technicalities too.
So, you can go ahead and give certification exam. If you feel you need a training before giving certification, You can have a formal training in SAP authorized education partner and then apply for certification.
While going through this, i wish to tell you some things which a person should keep in mind while going for certification.
Kindly do Remember, SAP Certification is not a Job Guarantee Program. Certification may add a value to it if you possess enough domain knowledge.
Companies Need Consultants who have good experience and knowledge in Business scenarios.
So, if you are good with Business process and have a valid SAP certification, then it will be easy for you to crack the interviews and get a break in your consulting career.
Regarding to your question about which module to choose SD or WMS, It is up to you to choose a module, Learn and Excel in that. There is no standard answer for choosing a module.
I would suggest you to choose a module in which you know the business process more.
All the best for your SAP Consulting career.

  • Regarding start routine used for lookups

    Hi All,
I am doing a lookup whose logic is being defined in start routine. My requirment is like this.
I am having an infoobject(1) having a master data and it also have an attribute having the master data too.
Now I am having one more object(2) having the masterdata and an attribute with out data.
In my routine I have defined a logic to compare two infoobjects. If they are equal then load the data of the attribute of first infoobject into the second infoobject.
I have defined the logic like this in routine.
    SELECT /BIC/Z_LOOKUP2
                         FROM /BIC/Z_LOOKUP1
        INTO /BIC/Z_LOOKUP4
           FOR ALL ENTRIES IN SOURE_PACKAGE[]
        WHERE  /BIC/Z_LOOKUP3 = SOURCE_FIELDS-/BIC/Z_LOOKUP1
        END SELECT.
I am geeting an error as /BIC/Z_LLOKUP1 IS NOT defined in ABAP dictionary as a table,.
    How can I resolve this.
    Please help me.
Z_LOOKUP1 is having Z_LOOKUP2 as an attribute and,
Z_LLOKUP3 is having Z_LLOKUP4 as an attribute.
    Thanks.
    Vinay,

    Hi,
Just check the master data table created for your infoObject Z_LOOKUP1. It would be something like /BIC/PZ_LOOKUP100.
If you are still getting the error, post your exact code here and we can take a look.
    Hope this helps!

  • Starting a career jump...what should my expectations be?

As the title states I'm starting to transition into an IT career and I'm just curious what should my expectations be in terms of starting positions....culture changes...(admittedly a very "30,000 ft" level question.)To help, let me give a little background/current situation: -Went to college got a Bachelor degree. (Not tech related)
-For the beginning of my short work life I've been employed heavily with "mega church" and concert driven large scale productions
-I also have served as an IT Admin/all-in-one staff member for some smaller churches.
-My experience could be equated to what an Network Enginner does. I do a lot of AVL system design. Basically the plumbing behind how all the lights, amps, and cameras tie together in the production. So, I have always had a technical role.
    - I've often been in leadership positions and led teams to...

This Question has come up before, but I think the OP was misunderstood. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/194594-can-an-excel-spreadsheet-be-turned-into-a-fillable-form...I have a group of rather large spread sheets each represents an inventory for a "service"I can use the Form command on the Ribbon to get an Entry form for that flat Database no problem; but that form is absurdly long, and cumbersome. And while I could duplicate the form by hand it seems a waste when Excel can create the form in about a second. What I really need to be able to do is save, and edit; Reorganize the form. So my group can use it for Data Entry, and print copies of the form for the service audit. Your help is hugely appreciated. Tom.

  • General enquiry regarding starting the managed servers in weblogic

    Hi,
Is there any sequence do we need to follow while bringing up the managed server? like in our set up we do have SOA,OSB & BAM managed servers.
So during maintainance activities, we have to start in sequence like SOA(managed server1),OSB(managed server 2) then BAM(managed server3).
In case if we change the above mentioned order the servers are not coming up.
So, we would like to know what might be cause & is there a sequence do we need to go thru to start the servers? if Yes, please give us the justification.
    Thanks,
    Sudhir.

In order to diagnostic the problem, you should post the error you're getting when trying to start the managed servers on a different order. Also, which mservers exactly are causing you problems?

    Franco.

  • Regarding Succession and career planning

    Hi everyone,
I want to do succession and career planning in PD. For that, I want to divide the employees in the system into fast track i.e. the people with exceptional potential for development and normal track for other so that they can be differentiated when the process is carried out. How can I maintain the track related data for all the employees. Has it to be maintained in PA infotypes or it can be maintained in some other places? Please suggest.
    With Regards,
    Kaustuv Goswami.

    Hi Luke,
I am working on EHP4 without NAKISA and have to do maximum possible things in R/3 only without portal as per the management decision.
I read the SAP help regarding Organizational Basis of Succession Planning  and therefore I made a mind to run this report to decide the key position in one go.
As I am facing few doubts in succession planning
If we are nominating more than 1 person for one position, we are not able to see all the nominations in one go.
In succession planning, if we have 100 successor positions, do we need to 100 times entry for succession or we will run for the same, as we are doing this through TCODE: HRTMC_PPOM
Therefore, I guess this report might help me in long run.
    Please give your input...
    Regards,
    Ritu
