Region code for DVD player

When I was visiting another country on vacation I watched a movie and guess it was the 5th time of me changing my region code. So appaently it is now permanent and I can no longer watch dvd's on my mac, import cd's or install software. How can i change my region code back to canada?
Please help asap!

cambridge2020:
Be sure to type accurately when asking about "DVD player". We don't always know if you mean DVD drive or Apple's "DVD Player.app" software.
Region code data is changed both in the firmware of some DVD drive hardware, in the base UNIX operating system software, and in the "DVD Player.app" software. For a particular drive, if it has region code protection firmware (those sold in the white market in countries that comply with the motion picture industry "suggestion"), will become locked for DVD region coded disc playback after 4 changes (5 code uses). Even if you have a region-free DVD drive as I do, the OS and "DVD Player.app" will stop allowing you to play region-coded DVD movie discs. You can (and I have) overcome this in several ways. I won't elaborate because Apple may feel it their duty to censor my comments. I will go so far as to say an "Erase and Install" will reset the region tracking for everything but the drive firmware.

    LG GSA-H50L.
This drive, so I've discovered, is not supported (Disk Utility says Burn Support: Unsupported).
Every time I put in a DVD, it says that the region code of the drive and the disk don't match (Drive is Region 1, disk is region 2). I lets me change the Region code, but next time I put in a DVD...same thing all over again.
Oddly, it always states "You can change the Region code 5 more times"
    Any ideas?

If your LG doesn't work, give the Pioneer a try. Before I bought it, I researched many other's experience with it, and it seems that the 115D is the winner. Just thought I'd help with additional options for you. In my humble opinion, I don't think it's wise to spend so much time fussing with a $30-$50 DVD drive vs. getting a new one and getting the Mac back on track for work/fun.

Hi all, I am just wondering, if anyone knows where i can find a dvd player GUI shell. Its most likely easier to just create it but it would save tons of time. I'm working in net-beans Java code, Linux platform. licensing is important (prefer free)

thanks,It seems to me that if you plan on writing the code behind the front end "shell" anyway, creating the GUI should be trivial. What all would you need? Some buttons and a panel to display the movie? I think you could have written that in the time it took you to make this post, heh. Unless I'm missing something?

    Hi there,
I have exceeded my changes of regions on my DVD player. It is on region 1 and I need it to be on region 4. How can I change this?

  • How to delete the region code for country in T005U

    Hello,
The region code for XX country are changed, So I have deleted all entries for that country in transaction code "OVK2" and updated the new region code which should be updated in Table T005S and T005U.
But in table T005U there are few region code for language other then EN. Now I need to delete the entries T005U for other language.
Now region code in OVK2 = Table T005S, but not equal to T005U
How language can be selected to delete the region code (TABLE T005U), please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Praveen

    Hi Praveen,
In order to delete the entries from the language table T005U, you will have to maintain in T005S.
It means that, suppose in table T005U, you have a region appearing in two languages danish and german and the corresponding entry does not exist in T005S, then follow the steps below.
    1. Maintain Region XX in EN in T005S.
    2. Log on in language Danish, and in table T005U, only delete the text and log off.
    3. Log on in Language German, and in table T005U, delete the text only and log off.
    4. Now your T005U table is clear, log on in language EN and delete from table T005S.
    5. Check both tables T005S and T005U for the region XX. they both should be empty.

  • How do I set my Region Code for the DVD player?

When I insert a DVD, it is not prompting me to set the region code and I cannot figure out how to set it manually.  When I insert a DVD, I get an error message that says "supported disk not availabe".  I have already run the Repair Disk Permissions from disk utility and that didn't work so I thought maybe the problem is with the region coding.  Your help is appreciated!!  Thanks.

  • How do I set the region code for my Mac?

I have been using my powerbook since 2004. I must have changed the region code once before for the DVD player. But since then any and all DVD's have played - unless the DVD itself had a problem. A few days back i put in a DVD which needed region change. Without thinking I changed it and now I have DVD's that used to play before, not play anymore. Please let me know how I can put the region code back to what it was - where all DVD's played.
I don't think I have changed the region code five times - but can one really nor change the code once it has changed the fifth time???????? Please advice.

I got a prompt when I had inserted the DVD which needed region change. But not now when I put in any other DVD. Some work, some don't. Is it not true that when changing the fourth time, the machine gives some indication that the next time will be the last? I thought so, whcih is why I am wondering, why it is not prompting or warning me.

  • How can I change the area code for DVD's?

I brought some DVD's from Germany and watched them on my Mac Pro. After the DVD was involved in the drive I have to change the area code for the drive. I don't know why but I did it. I could watch the film. Today I like to watch a DVD from US but after the DVD was involved I got a message "the area code does'nt match the DVD code" and I can not change the area code.
What can I do to watch both arts of DVD's. Isn't that normal to have DVD's all over the world?

Here is the bit that Bengt forgot to answer!
    DVD Player: About DVD-Video Regions
Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Once you have changed the region settingon your Mac five times it is set in stone for ever.
Try using VLC for playback instead:

  • What region is my DVD player on my iMac set to as default?

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to? I'm trying to work out whether some movies that I have are region 2 or not and all of my other DVD players are multi-region.

Canb onyone tell me what region my DVD player on my iMac (Intel) is defaulted to?
The DVD player on your iMac does not have a region code initially; it gets one the first time you insert a region-encoded DVD into the drive, and will prompt you for confirmation before any additional region changes are made. If you want to check on the first change, create a non-admin account in the Accounts pane of System Preferences if you don't have one already, and insert the DVD while logged into that account.
Region X is what you need
The link to this software on MacUpdate doesn't work, and the current version may not be available for download anywhere.

  • Regional limits on DVD player

Is there anyway around the number of times I can change regions on my Apple DVD player? I've seen some tuorials, but they all involve a complex reflash of the firmware and do not sound very "safe". I've installed VLC player but it also won't read the DVD I'm trying to load -- no error message but I assume it's the regional problem as well.

I did a quick search through Google and found a number of external DVD drives. Be aware that Apple's external DVD is NOT supported on the MacBook.
Best of luck, and thank you for awarding the "solved" for this thread. It is not required but it is certainly appreciated.

  • Region of the dvd player blocked

Hello!! I've been trying to know what are the possible way to unblock my dvd player in my mackbook pro. Actually according to the application dvd player, I have only the right to change 4 times the region.Well I did it more than 4 times and now it's stuck in region 1. I need to know how it is possible to make the dvd player multiregion. I'd like to play any dvd, any time at any region. How is it possible to make it? Is there anysoftware, or other? I need solutions cause I spent so much time trying to fix it, and I can't think of anything!!
Could u tell me asap please cos i need to watch certain movies for my masters!

To make your SuperDrive region free you'll need a firmware patch although these are few and far between for the Matishita drives Apple uses. So, your best option is to see if Apple will do a manufactuer reset on your drive. This will get you another 5 changes (you can only do a manufacturer reset so many times as well so this is not a long term solution).
The best option you have is to buy a cheap external drive with which you can patch to be RPC-1 region free.

  • Region code - External DVD burner

    Hi all,
Due to the region code issues on the newer Mac's, I bought an external 5.25" drive case, and transplanted a DVD burner from my donor Windows machine/doorstop.
A strange observation, I put a region 2 disc in the player and Tiger told me I can change the region code 4 more times... I guess some of this region code trouble is in the OS - I thought it was all burner. Anyway, I can still do a data rip.
I used Mac The Ripper (MTR) to rip a British DVD. I want to burn it onto a blank DVD so I can watch it on the Mac. However, the file is over 7gb.
Any idea how I can compress this and maintain the chapter structure? The DVD is a series of shows and I'd like to skip chapters, or be able to select a specific one.
So far, the external DVD option is a hit with me.
    Steve

Well, dual-layer is just that. A semi-transparent layer on top of another layer. The problem is that older drives developed before the recordable dual-layer standard typically don't recognize the disk type, and even a few sport hadware that simply can't accomodate it.
This is true mostly of older hardware. Most players and drives made since the 1st quarter of 2004 will handle dual-layer media alright. Dual-layer recordable DVD media has been out since 4th quarter 2003.
    There's nothing Mac-specific about it.

  • Cant change region code for final time.

    Hi all,
I've changed the region settings on my drive 4 times and am now wanting to make the fifth and final change to region 2. However, when I insert a region 2 DVD and am prompted to make the change the program quits immediately after I select the new drive region.
I have tried VLC and that cant play a region 2 DVD although it plays region 1 fine as does DVD Player.
Anyy help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Program Remote for DVD Player

I have been trying to program my remote to use with my DVD player. When I get to the screen where it asks me to select the brand of my DVD player (and then get the codes associated with that brand), my particular brand is not listed. Can someone please tell me what to do, if anything?

If you have the four-button remote, try this process.  (It's from the instructions for programming when the codes in the book don't work.)
"If none of the codes worked, try the following procedure. (As before, we will use the example of a DVD player. For other devices, use the appropriate Device Key instead of the DVD key, in steps 2 and 3.)
    1. Turn on your DVD player.
    2. Press and hold the DVD player key.
    3. While holding down the DVD key, press the OK key.
    4. Release both keys. The Device Keys will blink twice.
    5. Press 9 - 2 - 2.
    6. Point the remote at the DVD player.
    7. Press .
    8. Press . Every time you press , the remote sends out a new
power-off command to the DVD player. Keep pressing until the DVD player turns
off. (You can press to go back.)
    9. When the DVDturns off, you have found the right code. Press OK to
    store this code."
