Region Content Properties

In the content area page style -> folder layout tab -> region properties -> region content properties -> how do the "In Place Item Display" and "Associated Functions" settings affect the region, what is their purpose and when should they be used. I could not find any documentation. Thanks for your help.

The sort order only applies to the Sort By property, not the
Group By property.

I think, this limitation is annoying and needs to be removed. It takes to much unnecessary
workaround to overcome such a trivial problem.

Yes, that would be an excellent enhancement!
I was just struggling with getting a "Display as" item (showing the total of the report) under a report. There was no way, it always displayed above the report, even with "Horizontal / Vertical Alignment: right bottom".
This post made me try to move the region from "Display Point: Page Template Body (3)" to "Display Point: Page Template Body (2)". Now it works fine...

Yes, I had brought this up more than a year ago. This would allow us to use a WYSIWYG HTML editor to design a region template with #ITEM_NAME# substitutions in it and items with those names would be plopped into those positions.

"Page Template Body (3. items above region content)". was the only option.
Alternatively you can create a blank region just above the region and can keep the buttons over there. Its the ugly idea but it works.

Region content preview ?

Yes, i'm busy for a new poster, but i just wanted to ask if this was possible.
Ive been using Logic for many years but never been able to find out how to change the region contents preview from notation to piano roll, so that my midi regions show a piano roll style preview instead of the regular musical notation, when in the arrange window.
Ive been told on here that this is possible, but i'm pretty sure it's not.
Please help.

I see... Well, there is no option that controls the behavior of what's displayed. The behavior is to show notes when the zoom level is sufficient to display that. If you're zoomed out far enough you see nothing.
Would be a nice option to have tho.

Diplaying region content based on multiple selection lists

Hi,
I have 3 select list on submit(P1A, P1B, P1C). And i have 3 report regions.
now this is the scenario. the 3 select lists are on submit.
the P1C is a dynamic list which shows contents based on the selection from P1A and/or P1B. so this is how my P1C LOV looks like

ORDER BY d i also have a 3 report regions which display result based on P1C selection.
now when i select P1C then i am able to see the 3 regions. and when i go back and change P1A and/or P1B, then P1C changes output. and the 3 regions should not show any data unless i again select one from P1C but, the 3 regions still hold on to the previous data.
what i am trying to say is, when the regions should display data only when P1C is selected, and when any of P1A or P1B is changed the regions should disappear and should not display any data, but instead the 3 regions show the previous data unless a new selection is done.
How can i clear the report region when everytime a new value is selected from P1A and/or P1B.
also the below is part of what i have entered in the report regions

this is what i found the latest. whats happeneing is
when i select listA, listB-- listC gets populated and when i select from listC based on that value which gets stored in session state, report regions get displayed
but when i go back and change selection in listA, listB
by default listC session value should go to NULL, and only after i make a new selection, then with this new session value for listC, the report regions get displayed.
but when i checked the session value for listC, it still remains the same old value from the previous selection, because i haven't nade new selection and thats why the report regions are still showing the old result.
so how can i remove this session value for listC after displaying the report results.

There is nothing wrong with your code, so I'd look elsewhere for the problem. Is this a direct copy of what you have on your page?
:P1_COMBO1 in ('Option 1', 'Option 2')

:P1_COMBO2 = 'Option Combo 2'And the page item values are exactly as you have in the quoted strings? You might run the page in debug and confirm the page item values are exact.

Export - region content (file)

How do I export the contents of a region (files) to another table outside the Oracle portal?

Works fine here... no problems at all.
Have you tried this in a different song? It may be something with this one Logic file... unless you can duplicate it in another song.
As an alternative, I would suggest you simply export the whole track.

Changing the page region contents

I have a page with 4/5 regions. On the top most region our company banner (which is a .gif) is there. There are some other links added in different region of the page. i want to change my company banner whenever i click on the links in the different region of the page.
How can i achieve this

That is such a bad idea, unless you want a photograph behind your text which is also a bad idea, making it illegible or near illegibile. jpegs are not the answer to everything. Every format has its uses and in this case jpegs are the absolute worst choice.
Shapes can have flat or gradient color fills and are the obvious solution if they cover the entire page. Be aware that most desktop printers can not print anywhere near the edge of the paper so you will end up with bold white border in most cases.
If you are determined to do this you can use a page size text box with color fill, ie one with zero margins and use insets to position the text in from left and right. You can position the text top and bottom using the header and footer which will cause the text to wrap away from those areas.
The catch with this method is if you need multiple columns, they are calculated from the outside edges of the text box. You can sneak past this by using 2 transparent shapes with no borders but using text wrap to push text away from the outer sides, but this almost demands equal columns absolutely centred on the page.
Really the best solution is the colored shapes in the background. Be aware though that with some of the pdf settings this may cause text over them to pixelate on output.

Update data region content after submitForm

Hi,
I have a spry data region called "event_comments". When I use
the Spry.util.submitForm, i want the data region to reload. I have
tried putting event_comments.loadData();, but that doesnt work. my
current code in the callback function is:

When I create a new track and region, the new region copies the previous region contents; why?

In trying to experiment with new instruments included in 10.1. , I create a new instrument track and region, nominate the new instrument, and... I see that the empty region I just created isn't empty at all, it is filled with the notes created in a previous track, and no sound... is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

You can highlight the URL in the Location Bar of a Tab you want to duplicate and use '''{Alt + Enter}''' or you can '''Middle-click the Reload button''' at the right-side of the Location Bar (no need to highlight the URL there).
Both of those methods will work whether you have '''''Tabs on Top''''' selected or not.

Including page in a region : best practice

Hello all,
I know that this subject has been already discussed many times but my question is not really "how to do it"...but "is it the best way"?
So the initial need was the following :
I had to be able to include the content from a page in an application into the region of another application using a generic solution that allows end user to configure easily what page he wants to render without having to use Apex.
For this :
1. I first defined a plugin that allows to render an parametrized iframe into a region.
2. I defined my plugin region on the first page that is linked with elements to define the parameters (page number to render, items and values to set on the page).
3. Then the user can easily change the rendered page on the first application changing the database row that specify the page id.
That is working pretty good but I would like to be sure that there is no proper solution because some customers do not really like the idea to have an application with embedded iframes.
I considered a solution using PLSQL dynamic region, trying to retrieve the page content using an HTML post in PLSQL. But it was not really a success. After fixing access issues, I just noticed that the page was rendering but nothing was functionnal on it (buttons, process...) because of the unknown session context.
I did not succeed to fix this.
I also considered to use an AJAX with htmldb_Get but I do not really like this in that case. Because I want the region to be displayed on pageload. Then that does not really seem logical to make a server call to render first the original page and them refresh the region content.
Moreover, I already used this in the past, and I also had issues about session context (processes not working and so on...)
Do you have any other idea? Do you think the iframe solution is the best one?

because some customers do not really like the idea to have an application with embedded iframes.How do the customers know whether you are using iframes or not. If you apply page templates similar to "pop-up" and if you use same CSS definitions as of calling application for embedded application, then they can't make it out whether is part of application or iframe calling another application.

Layout issue: sql report region and items derived from a different table

Hi all,
I have a report region whose source is a sql query. I am trying to display other items in the same region(These I added manually on the page and they come from another table in the schema). It works fine, except the items that I added manually in the region always appear at the top of the items that are derived from the query. I want the other way around if possible, where I want the items from report query to appear first and then the other items to appear below them. Can this be done? If so how?

on the definition page of your region, set the property "Display Point" to "Page Template Body (1. items below region content).
I think that's what you are looking for.

Content Server problem after 5.0.2 upgrade

We've just upgraded our staging environment from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 and have lost all branding. The diagnostic script reports the following error:

I tried resolving both the file location and the http address from within the Content Server box and was able to without problem so I know it's not these it can't see.
I checked the pcs.log and the following error is reported:

It appears that the Content Server is trying to access this xml file via the public url for the image server which, due to firewall configurations in this environment, it won't be able to do. I'd like to be able to change how it looks for this file to be http://<SERVERNAME>/imageserver rather than http://<PUBLICURL>/imageserver
Where is it getting this from for me to change it?

Hi Diane,
No, we haven't fully resolved this yet. In addition to the issue listed we've come across a number of others that look like problems from install. We've reached the point where it's looking more effective to try and uninstall Content Server and do a clean install from scratch rather than debug every little thing.
As part of the new install we're changing the architecture to create an internal ImageServer on the CS server and then use a scheduled task to push everything out to the external ImageServer on the portal box overnight. This should get around a number of the firewall and dns issues currently making communication between the two quite difficult.
We recently installed another 5.0.2 portal in a different environment and have had none of the same issues with it so we're a little perplexed. When we get this resolved I'll be happy to write a note about what it was. In the meantime if you get anywhere with yours please let us know.

Can we restrict Page assets shown in Content Finder to match available cq drop targets?

We have defined a component that accepts drag-and-drop of user content, and the cq:DropTargetConfig node (under cq:editConfig > cq:dropTargets) defines groups=[page] because it accepts assets of type cq:Page not images. Our component is a copy of the /libs/foundation/components/image component, because it accepts drag-and-drop, and we modified its innards to accept cq:Page not image. Seems that the 'accept' property is completely ignored when groups=[page], I think 'accept' is only processed when groups=[media] i.e. images.
This is basically working fine except there is so much user content that it is time-consuming for users to select the right pages to drag from the Content Finder extension into the drag-and-drop target. And if they pick the wrong kind of asset it can really mess up the target page. There are so many types of components based on cq:Page and many of them just do not belong in this particular drop target, but if the user drags an inappropriate asset into our drop target then cq allows it, often with disastrous results (content properties and nodes get overwritten in the wrong place, etc).
Yes the Content Finder has a search bar but really I would like to restrict the list of assets shown there without the user having to type in a search term. I hope there is something for Page-based content analogous to the 'allowedPaths' property in a Template. In the WCM when you click New Page at some jcr path, a template-chooser dialog comes up and it only has templates which are allowed for that jcr path, so the dialog is uncluttered and guides the user to a relevant template. Similarly, Components have an 'allowedParents' property so you can't use them where they don't belong. Please advise if there is something similar to make it easier to find relevant content in Content Finder tab Pages.

I just checked this behavior. In CQ 5.5, an image dropped in an image component OEM is trunct'ed to fit the column or parsys that it is added to. The image remains 100% full-scale and flush left. In the past as a CQ architect, I have participated in the conversation no less than 10 times. If fact I discussed this with a client last week. They insisted on being able to use renditions as part of content.
I've advised on various solutions. The most complex solution I've advised on will autosize the image component to fit the column it is used in without author intervention. This is, however, predicated on the column components to be rewritten using a grid system and not %. It's extremely complex and changes the behavior of various components dramatically.
I agree I don't fully understand or embrace the philosophy on this one. I see the purist attitude toward renditions of images but its not practical in the field. Under the current philosophy images of the same size and scale will be cached in multiple locations.

Position of items in a region changes when changing region display point

Hi all,
I encounter a strange behaviour of items when changing the display point of a reports region from default (Page Template Body (3)) to anything else.
If set to Body (3), my items are correctly displayed above the report, but else they are displayed below.
Changing the sequence numbers does not affect this.
To clarify what I mean I created a sample application:

Is there any possiblity to influence whether items in a reports region are displayed below or above the report table? - I did not find anything...

If you read the description of those other regions you'll clearly see "items below region content" rather than "items above region content", like the page template body region #3.
This is one limitation of the ApEx region templates that some would like to see improved - meaning, allowing for more flexibility.
