Region in Timezone

Hello,
We have a requirement to display time zone in characters.
For Eg :
SQL> select systimestamp from dual;
SYSTIMESTAMP
04-MAR-09 11.21.53.912000 PM -05:00
We would like to display this result as
04-MAR-09 11.21.53.912000 PM US/Eastern
or
04-MAR-09 11.21.53.912000 PM EDT
How to display time like this ?(instead of -05:00 , display as US/Eastern or EDT .i.e as per the region).
Any input is appreciated!
Thanks,
-Raj

Thank you all for the response!
From those informations I couldnt get a maping for '-05:00' to 'US/Eastern', because there are many regions with offset '-05:00' .But maping from 'US/Eastern' to '-05:00' is possible.
But our goal is to display the exact timezone region whenever you select systimestamp or current_timezone or etc. Here, the issue is the end-user does not aware of the offset stands for, since oracle is displaying -05:00' or +05:00 or ....
How to do a conversion from -05:00' to 'US/Eastern' when you run a query without setting 'time_zone' in session or system level?
Thanks,
Raj

  • Changing Java Stack TimeZone

    Hello Basis,
    We are running NWCE 7.11 on AIX/DB2 platform.  I'm looking to change the Java stack time zone on our CE portal.  It's currently set to CET but I would like to change it to PST.
    I've checked out OS date and it's correct.  It's in PST.
    I know of transaction STZAD on the BW server.  How do you set the timezone for the Java stack CE server?
    There's mentioning of -Duser.timezone = on the forum but I'm still not clear as to where I should add this parameter using the configuration tool?
    Would appreciate any guidance...  Thanks for your response in advance.

    Hi,
    SAP EP doesn't have its own timezone considering it can be accessed from multiple geographical regions and timezones.
    It uses the timezone of the host machine where it is installed.
    By setting Duser.timezone parameter you can change the user timezone. The following thread might be helpful.
    http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=806527
    You should also check if the portal is connecting to an ABAP system and therefore displays a different timezone.

  • WDS Client Naming Policy with image unattend mode problem

    I have created a standard Windows 7 Pro 64-bit PC for my company with all our applications installed and configured.  I used SYSPREP to generalize it and then used PXEBoot to capture this image to our WDS Server (which is the PDC).  I used WAIK
    to create the two required answer files, one for the WDS server and the PXE boot stage of deployment and another linked to the image that sets the region/keyboard/time zone and other simple settings.
    To test I've setup up Oracle VirtualBox and PXE booted it.  The PXE part works fine and the correct image begins to deploy.  However when using the image's answer file I get a random computer name generated and it fails to join the domain, when I
    don't use the image answer file I have to sit at the PC and set the region/keyboard/timezone etc settings from prompts on the screen but the virtual PC does join the domain and does pick up the correct name!
    The AD DS properties tab shows this as 'Client Naming Policy' FBCLIENT%02# which is correct and results in PCs called FBCLIENT01 FBCLIENT02 etc when NOT using the image answer file.
    How can I modify my image answer file so that the PC is joined to the domain and picks up the correct generated name in sequence?
    Here's my image answer file...

  • Stand alone APEX listener install fails with timezone region  not found

    Hi,
    I have searched the forum but found only a thread for the installation with Goldfish.
    I am very new to all this so I apologise if my problem is too simple, but please help as I am very frustrated with it.
    I have a 10.2.0.4 database on Windows XP for testing with.
    I installed APEX into it successfully, then down loaded the listener.
    I have to Java installations, one under my Oracle Home, the other under Middleware where I have JDeveloper installed.
    If I try $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java -jar apex.war it throws a Unsupported class version so I tried with the Middleware jdk and it appeared to install.
    I then went to http://localhost:8080/apex/listenerConfigure and entered the password for APEX_PUBLIC_USER and the info for a basic connection, it fails with the following message
    Request could not be processed due to error:
    Sat Apr 30 00:06:30 CAT 2011
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01882: timezone region not found
    Please if anyone can help me through asap this I would be most grateful

    Yay, I found the solution:
    I started by running:
    begin
    for v_rec in (select tzname,tz_offset(tzname) v_offset from v$timezone_names
    where tzabbrev='CAT') loop
    dbms_output.put_line('tzname '||v_rec.tzname||', offset '|| v_rec.v_offset);
    end loop;
    end;
    SQL> /
    tzname Africa/Khartoum, offset +03:00
    tzname Africa/Windhoek, offset +01:00
    tzname America/Anchorage, offset -08:00
    tzname US/Alaska, offset -08:00
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    I then added -Duser.timezone="+01:00" before the apex.war ie
    java –jar -Duser.timezone="+01:00" apex.war

  • PowerBI regional/localisation settings (date time format/timezone) - PowerPivot dax NOW() returning UTC date

    Can the regional settings be changed for PowerBI or are we stuck with UTC? Tried googling but the only hits for 'regional powerbi' relate to the portal being available in that region, not any kind of localisation configuration
    I have a workbook that is set to auto refresh. I've added a 'last refreshed' label to the front page, but when refreshed on PowerBI it shows the time in UTC (10.5 hrs off from where I am).
    I'm not a sharepoint person so will need steps and diagrams if it's a sharepoint config setting :)
    Jakub @ Adelaide, Australia Blog

    Hi Ed,
    I have a date dimension and I add a computed column to it. It's called RefreshDate. The code for the computed column is =NOW()
    I then use this column to show to the user when the model was last refreshed.
    Hi Greg, not really interested in workarounds at this time (i have another thread going for that & my data source is web apis, not a relational db with datetime functions) -
    this is more of a question of "is it possible to choose which timezone is used by the powerbi vertipaq engine for scheduled refreshes? yes/no"
    We are working in a single time zone, but the PowerBI vertipaq engine looks like it's lives in london.
    It shows the correct current time on the local user's PC when I (or a user) refreshes this model locally. It shows the UTC date (my time zone - 10.5 hrs) when the report is refreshed by powerbi.
    I have a workaround going in my report currently using powerquery to get the utc date and manually add 10.5 hrs + add a label to my report that states this is a fixed 10.5hr. This is a hack because we're in a daylight savings zone, so in a few months
    the tz will revert to +9.5hrs and i'll need to manually fix this again unless i'm able to set powerbi to use my time zone.
    The sharepoint guys here have changed every setting they know about in sharepoint online/o365 in regards to time zones and localisation. The date format and dates shown are correct for the 'web pages' part of powerbi (the refresh history, the formatting
    of the dates on the powerview reports etc), but the time zone used when powerbi executes the NOW() dax command appears to be set to UTC.
    Thanks

    Dear Joe,
    Once again thank you very much for your prompt response.
    I have tried the proposed solution without success. In order to identify the exact issue I have created a small application and tried with JDBC connection as below It works fine. But when tried using the DSN it does NOT connects.
    Any idea whether we should consider any special option when we create DSN on WL which is in Linux when compared to Windows? Please advice.
    ====================
    public static Connection getConnection() throws Exception
         Connection con=null;
         String url = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@10.201.1.65:1521:TEST";
         String driverName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
         Class.forName(driverName);
         con = DriverManager.getConnection(url, "HR", "HR");
    System.out.println("CONNECTED===>"+con);
         return con;

    Thanks in advance

  • ORA-01882:timezone region not found while trying to add ADF-BC Fact in Rule

    Hi,
    I want to use the SOA component "Oracle Business Rules" in the ADF application.
    I created a ADF Application, created relevant VO's. I created a SOA project in the same workspace and tried to add a ADF-BC fact to the Business Rule component.
    I configured the -Duser.timezone="+05:30" option for java runtime.
    However I still get the timezone not found exception and am unable to add ADF-BC fact to the rule component.
    Here is the full stack trace.

    Hi,
    ORA-01882: timezone region not found in pivot is it bug
    Its a database error, why do you think its a bug with the Pivot table. The same behavior can be observed with WebLogic Server and SQL Developer - so I am not quite sure how this can be pointed back to the pivot table in your opinion. Maybe this here will help you getting to the core of the problem: http://www.jvmhost.com/articles/java-and-timezones

  • ORA-01882: timezone region not found  in NetBeans 7.0.1

    Please how do I solve ORA-01882: timezone region not found in Netbeans 7.0.1 ?

    no such TZNAME as Africa/Luanda Version 4 of the timezone patch doesn't have that one either, and if you don't have at least version 3 the DST rules won't be correct for the 2007 DST changes. v4 does have Africa/Windhoek if that's close enough, can't tell if that one is in v2 we don't have anything on a patch earlier than v4.
    Might be able to work around it by specifying an offset (i.e. +1:00) instead of a named time zone, patch files for the base 10.2.0.1 aren't even listed in support note 412160.1. There is also note 396387.1, "Workarounds when Database time zone patches are not available for your patchset" that one might be helpful.
