Region Parameter Box (delay)

I have a full band live recording session of 10 songs, 2 takes each. The electric bass was recorded both with a DI and a mic on an Amp (isolated). I want to make sure the 2 bass tracks are in phase.
Is the DELAY pull down menu in the Region Parameter Box (in the Inspector area) a good way to nudge regions back and forth by small amounts so that I get proper phase allignment?
thanks,
Morris

You use it to compensate for sluggish sounds, say, a string section with a long attack, which will feel late if played precisely on the beat. Pulling it a bit early with the Delay parameter helps getting it to sit better without complicating visuals and handling.

  • Is it possible to have track and region parameters boxes under the inspector hidden by default when creating a new track?

I often need to access the effects section and/or select a different midi instrument and have to manual minimize these boxes. It would be nice if I could have these hidden by default as I'm accessing the portions covered by the track and region parameter boxes more frequently than I'm accessing the boxes themselves.
    Thanks!

Before answering your question, you have to make sure you understand the difference between the different track types in GarageBand.
Tracks, you record your music on
There are three types of those Tracks.
MIDI Tracks (aka Software Instrument Tracks)
Audio Tracks (aka Real Instrument Tracks)
Drummer Track (only one per Project)
    Global Tracks
These are the Tracks that can be shown/hidden at the top of the Tracks Area for specific purposes.
    Arrangement Track
    Movie Track
    Transposition Track
    Tempo Track
    Master Track
This Track can also be shown/hidden in the Tracks Area. Please note, you cannot delete that Track, only hide it, similar to the Global Tracks
Regarding the Tracks you record your music on,  you can delete any of those. It doesn't matter if you created them or there are part of a Template (maybe that  is what you refer to as the default track). Once you delete the last Track, the "New Track Window" will pop up to add a new track.
I will explain all that in much more detail in my manual "GarageBand X - How it Works".
    Hope that helps

  • Region parameter fades - how to get rid of them?

i have a strange behavior in logic 7.1.1
there is a track and i deleted audio regions lying in there
whenever i post new ones in there, old fades are still inside
how can i get rid of them?
    thx
    cheers heiner

    Hello,
This is actually not strange behavior. If you used a cross fade between two audio files, BOTH now contain fade information, thus when you delete one audio region, the other region will still contain the cross fade information.
To get rid of fade information, select the region(s) its on and look in your regions parameter box for "fade start" and "fade end" values and set them to zero. I dont have logic in front of me right now, so sorry if its named something else.

  • How to use the region parameter of main report for subreport chart titles?

I am using Crystal Reports 11.
    I create 1 main report with 10 sub-reports that contain cross-tabs & charts. The main report has a parameter regarding 3 different areas: region1, region2, and region3.
I use the method of adding the u2018regionu2019 parameter of main report to the selection formula of the sub-reports. So, I can select 'region' from main report to controll outputs in sub-reports by region.
I use formulas for chart titles, e.g.:
    Select {Product Code}
    Case 'a111':
      u2018Region1 u2013 a111 Counts'
    Case u2018b222u2019:
      u2018Region1 u2013 b222 Counts'
    u2026
    u2026
    Default:
    u2026
Since I pass the u2018regionu2019 parameter of main report to sub-reports, I have to change chart titles dynamically based on the region I select.
How can I use the region parameter from main report in the formulas to get chart titles dynamically?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you.
I am not using Chart Title with "Chart Expert".
I am using a formula for chart titles, e.g.:
    Select {Product Code}
    Case 'a111':
      u2018Region1 u2013 a111 Counts'
    Case u2018b222u2019:
      u2018Region1 u2013 b222 Counts'
    u2026
    u2026
    Default:
    u2026
I drag this formula above the charts and it looks like a dynamic title. So, for product a111, the chart title would be "Region1 u2013 a111 Counts"; for product b222, the chart title would be "Region1 u2013 b222" Counts; and so on ...
Because I pass the region parameter from master report to subreport, I want to change the region part of the chart titles dynamically.
    For example,
    when select Region1, the chart titles should be: "Region1 u2013 a111 Counts"; "Region1 u2013 b222"; ...
    when select Region2, the chart titles should be: "Region2 u2013 a111 Counts"; "Region2 u2013 b222"; ...
I want to add the region parameter into the tiltle formula.
    How should I do?

  • Region parameter GAIN is always absolute

When selecting multiple regions and changing for example the TRANSPOSE parameter, the selected regions are transposed relatively to their previous value. But when doing the same with GAIN, they all get he same value. Example, one region has gain= +1 and another has gain= +2. If you now select both regions and change the gain to 3, the expected result should be +4 and +5 (both having 3db added). But instead both regions get 3.
    The documentation says:
    Editing Several Regions Simultaneously
If several regions are selected, the number of selected regions is displayed, in place of a region name. If you alter any region parameter, all selected regions are affected. If a given parameter is set differently in the individual regions, an asterisk (*) appears in the Parameter field. You can alter this parameter for all selected regions, and the value differential will be retained (relative alteration). If you want to set all selected regions to the same value, hold down the Option key while changing the value (absolute alteration).
But this doesn't work for GAIN. Is this a bug? Is there a simple workaround?
    I use version 9.1.6
    Thanks

  • Windows Explorer Properties Dialogue box delay

    Hello from Sydney Australia
We have an ageing Windows SBS 2008 server that is our file share. When I right click on a folder to check the properties it can take up to 1-10 minutes to open. Sometimes not at all and I have to reboot the entire server. We had Symantec Endpoint Protection
installed the latest version and we removed it as we suspected that to be the issue but its still just as unresponsive. There are a ton of files in each subfolder that we are trying to modify permission for so maybe that has something to do with the delay.
    For example some 1700 folders.
I tried to work out icacls but the documentation is terrible and almost in-comprehensive.

    please help me
Thanks in advance for your support

    Hello,
I don't think this is documented in BIP's manuals.
All you will find regarding "changing the colour" is related to conditional formatting
see section 3.8.3.5 About Conditional Formats from Fusion Middleware Report Designer's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher

If this will be approved, you can have this option implemented in future versions.

  • Top of Parameter box shows names of parameters at the top

    Hi All,
    Crystal 11.5.10.1263, stand alone, desktop
    I have a 3 level, cascading parameter.
It's all working fine, thank you very much, but when the report is run,
the names of the parameters are all displayed at the top like this:
    Get_Personnel - LAST_NAME/Get_Personnel - INSTITUTION_ID/Get_Personnel - APPROVAL_DATE   Get_Personnel - LAST_NAME/Get_Personnel - INSTITUTION_ID/Get_Personnel - APPROVAL_DATE
...and under that , of course, is
    Select Institution
    Select Approval Date
    Select Last Name
    which is just fine.
How do I get rid of that ugly stuff at the top ?
I've tried, but I can't find how to get rid of it.
    Thank you very much,
    Jimmy

    Hi Abhilash,
No dynamic cascading parameters in the sub report.
I use to have dynamic cascades in the sub report,
but I deleted them a few days back.  Now I only have
the link in the sub report to the main report:
    {Command.INSTITUTION_ID} = {?Pm-Command.INSTITUTION_ID}
I have my Institution_ID linked to the (?Pm-Command.Institution_ID) in the Select Expert.
I experimented just now.  I deleted this in the Select Expert and deleted the
link to the sub report.  Then I recreated the link to the sub report and ran it.
No data was returned, so I definitely need the Select Expert hooking up the
    Institution ID to the (Pm-Command.Institution_ID)
This is what shows in the Field Explorer of the Sub report
in the Parameter Fields section, if this helps:
    Pm-Command.INSTITUTION_ID
If I sound like I'm rambling, that's only because I am...
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

  • Cant seem to quantize audio regions?

I have read the manual which says the following:
"In order to use quantization on an audio region, you need to assign a flex mode to the parent audio track, and select the Flex parameter in the Region Parameter box for that region....
To change the quantization grid division for selected audio and/or MIDI regions
Choose a value from the Quantize pop-up menu in the Inspector’s Region Parameter box."
I've done that but nothing happens??
Also I don't understand the correlation between the track parameter box, and the region parameter box, do I have to set them both to the quantize setting that I want, or just one of them?? I have tried it all ways and I cant get it to work.

Worth downloading MPC quantizes if you can - they were made for drums. (Wish Logic would come up with some new quantizes though - they've been the same since year dot)...
You can download the MPC quantizes here:
    http://www.logic-cafe.com/Article_View.asp?ID=14&CategoryID=8
You'll need to open the above Logic song & copy the folders to your song (preferably your own template so that they're there every). Open the MPC folders in the song, select all regions simultaneously, then select "Make Groove template" from the Quantize menu in the Inspector. Hide the folders (don't delete them - they need to be there in order for Logic to remember the Quantizes).
You can also make extensive use of the "Delay" offset in the inspector (moving regions forward or back in time in small increments) or better still use the "Nudge Left" / "Nudge Right" functions (set to ticks ors samples). I have these two buttons (as well as "Nudge Value") permanently in my arrange toolbar.

  • Can't fade more than one region at a time?

Tell me this isn't so... I'm reading the manual, maybe I'm over looking it, I've selected multiple files and tried to use the fade tool and no dice - is this for real? It can't be done?

    1. Select the regions.
    2. In the Region Parameter Box in the Inspector, you can choose fade types, times, etc.

  • Beat Mapping is changing speed of audio region, not the metronome!!!

    Hi Everyone,
I just today learned about beat mapping in Logic. I used it on one song that i'd recorded previously without a click track and it worked like a charm. I'm trying to use it on a different song now (same situation: previously recorded with no click) but for some reason with this song, it's changing the speed/length of my audio region to match the metronome instead of changing the speed of the metronome to match the speed of the audio. What's going on?!
    Thanks a bunch.

Well after many hours of searching through Logic Forums and flipping through the Logic Reference Manual, all to no avail, I've finally figured out what the problem was. I needed to uncheck the "Follow Te(mpo)" option in the Region Parameter Box for the region I was trying to beat map. The beat mapping process wasn't actually changing the length/speed of my audio region like I said it was in my initial post; it was simply playing over it slower or faster in order to preserve the audio-to-tempo ratio as I made the tempo slower or faster. All I needed to do was uncheck that little box and now beat mapping works exactly as described in the Reference Manual. WHY ON EARTH is the "Follow Te(mpo)" box not mentioned when discussing beat mapping?! More importantly, why is it not mentioned ANYWHERE in the entire Reference Manual?!?!? NOT ONCE!!! unbelievably frustrating.

  • "MIDI thru" box for audio tracks... what is it for?

    Hi Guys
Sorry for this possibly quite obvious question... when I create audio tracks that have nothing to do with MIDI, why is it that the inspector column on the left still has a section for "MIDI thru"? Is this for use with control surfaces that use MIDI channels to control paramaters on an audio track, or... for something else?
And is there a way to get rid of these all together, so that each audio channel isn't paired to a MIDI channel?
Apologies if this is a silly question!
    Cheers,
    Mike

If you don't know the answer then it's not a silly question.
You're simply seeing a connection where none exists. The Region parameter box will display the parameters of any selected Region(s). When no region is selected the region parameter box displays the "MIDI Thru" parameters.
Now, if you create some more tracks (Midi, Audio or whatever) and haven't selected any region then the Region Parameter box will still show the (same) Midi Thru parameters. It has nothing to do with selected Tracks only selected Regions.
The Track Parameter box displays the parameters for the selected Track.
The region parameter box displays the parameters for the selected Region.

  • Quick way to apply fades to many chopped up regions?

Have scissored up one region into many smaller regions in order to line up bass guitar transients to kick drum transients. I can't always do this by "stripping silence" so of course I end up with clicks and pops do to the scissored regions beginning and ending on non-zero-crossings of the audio data. But I apply fades to all the regions and this takes care of it. So I regrettably must do this manually every day in a certain project and though I am now fast at it I would love it if there were a fast way to apply very small fades to all selected regions on a track at the same time.

Select all the regions you want fades on.
In the region parameter box in the inspector, you should see "fade".
Dial up however long a fade you want. It will do it to all the regions selected.
