Region setting for Actiontec MI424-WR router?

I play an online customizable card game, called Legends of Norrath. Every so often they have tournaments, and up until this July I've been able to partake just fine. However, as of late I get a message saying I am ineligible since I am trying to connect from outside a US territory (gambling/tax laws or something). I'm in Portland, OR. I submitted a CS ticket with the company (Sony Online Entertainment), but they say everything looks fine from their end. One person, though, suggested checking what country my router was set to, as they had known of someone's router getting reset to Canada, making them ineligible.
I searched the router's settings very closely, but I find nothing relation to region aside from a time zone setting. Thorough web searches have turned up nothing.
I am not using any proxies, my location according to my IP address is more or less accurate when I look on a site like http://ip-address.domaintools.com/, and a tracert to one of SoE's domains seems to go nowhere besides Portland, Seattle, and San Diego.
So first of all, does anyone know if a country setting exists for this router, and if so, where to find it? Secondly, has anyone run into a problem like this and found an alternate solution?
Thanks for your assistance.

This type of thing has been discussed here before.
As Verizon expands and aquires additional blocks of TCP/IP Addresses some of them may have been previouslsy assigned to an ISP in a different geographic portion of the world.  The problems is that there are databases with this information that do not all update at the same time.  I would guess that the database that the game provider is using still has the old location which is why they are pegging you as coming from outside the US.
You can attempt to release your TCP/IP Address, power down your Modem for over 6 hours, and then power it back up.  This MAY get you a different IP Address, but it could still be in the same block.  A better approach would be to open a new ticket with the game provider to ask them if they are determining your location by your IP Address and if so to update their database.

  • Basic Questions on ActionTec MI424-WR Router - problems with poor download/upload speed

First, I will get to the point and ask my questions, then will explain what's happening - I'm interested in hearing whether the right actions are being taken to solve my problem.
    1) After perusing the forums, I see frequent reference to the "Rev" version of the ActionTec MI424-WR Router.  How do you find the Rev version?  I have logged into the Router and in the "System Monitoring" icon, the Router Status lists my Hardware version as 'A'.  Does this mean I have Rev 'A'?
    2) What is Verizon handing out these days for Routers?  Mine is being replaced, and I am wondering what to expect.  I have Verizon FIOS Phone, TV, and Internet service, and have the 25/25 Internet service.  Will they give me another MI424-WR?  If so, what Rev level are they likely to give me?
Here's why my router is being replaced - opinions/comments/advice welcomed.
For the past year or two, I've consistently measured (via speedtest.speakeasy.net) about 30Mbs download, and around 22-25 Upload.  Lately, I noticed that my downloads were quite slow, so I tested my speed at the above website, which I had not done in many months.  I measured only about 2-3 Download and 1-2 up.  Note all of what I am discussing hear takes place with hard-wired ethernet, NOT wireless.
I tried testing from multiple computers, running XP, Vista, and Windows 7.  All getting consistently similar poor speeds.  I verified my account still is supposed to have 25/25/ service, which I verified online.
Tried rebooting the router, no change.  Then tried hard reset (pushing in the recessed button, holding it for about 20-30 seconds.  After it reconnected to the Internet, I tested speed again.  No change.
Interestingly, I tested wireless speed on the laptop I have.  Speed is MUCH better, around 15 down, and 10-12 up.
I tried the speed optimization tool on two of my PCs, it made no improvement.  Finally, got into an online chat with a Verizon Tech.  He did some tests on the line, we repeated some of the things I already tried, and then he asked how old my Router was...I am pretty sure it is the original one I received when I first signed up for FIOS, around 5-6 years ago, which is one of the reasons I asked how to tell which rev level I had.   So the tech concluded the problem was probably my Router.
I TEND to agree, especially because I recently had an "anomaly" on my network.  My son complained one day that Internet was down.  When I got home, I found out my NetGear Gigbit switch was dead, and two of my hard-wired ethernet network printers could no longer talk to the network.  I replaced the switch, so now I am thinking perhaps the Router was damaged somehow.  I have no idea what the cause of this anomaly was - everything that connects to my network was plugged into Triplite ISOBAR surge protectors, but that only protects AC power.
I would think a hardware failure would completely kill the ethernet portion of the router, not simply reduce speed, but I could be wrong.  Anyone been through something similar to this before?  I expect to receive the new Router next Thursday, so hopefully I should know by then, but still - what should the next steps be if the new router does not fix the problem?
Thanks for any comments, insight or shared experiences you might be willing to share...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    This is embarrassing.
Smith6612, you are absolutely correct, and you nailed it!
When all this mess started, I checked my Verizon account to make sure I was signed up for 25/25 Internet.  I was.
I don't know what has happened, but after reading Smith6612's response, I went back to recheck my account.  I was set up for 15/5!  So, the speedtest measurements I have been getting the last couple of days are exactly what I should be getting.  Two possibilities:
    1) My Triple-Play bundle must have expired in the past two weeks by coincidence.
    2) The Verizon tech may have changed my account profile when I worked with them online last week, although this was never discussed.
At any rate, Smith6612 wins the prize.  It certainly explains the download/upload speeds I am getting.  I have logged into Verizon and signed up for a new bundle.  According to their website, my new profile should take effect Tuesday 1/10, so after that point, I should be measuring 25/25 again.
Thanks to all who responded to this thread.  I will update this thread to confirm after Tuesday.  I get nervous whenever I have to change anything with Verizon - although everything has worked fine for the past few years, we have so many services with them - Cell Phone, TV, Internet, and Home Phone, that I worry something will go wrong with the billing, but we'll see.

  • BPF dont open the data region set for Excel Template

Hi experts, i have a BPF which contain a step where i put in the entity dimension a current view type "inherit from data region". This dimension have a security "READ ONLY". Well when i open this BPF, with a user (who is OWNER in the Entity dimension for specific member) the template open on diferent member than it assigned.
I set in the member access profile for this user just the member i want to he see and also set the other members "denied", however it`s still open in the member which open for default in the action pane on BPC WEB.
What i have to do to correct that?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
"Inherit from Data Region" means - when you open the BPF, you need to specify members for few of the dimensions. These members can be used by specifying "inherit from data region".
For example, if, while opening the BPF, you enter USA for Entity and 2009.Total for Time. If "inherit from data region" is specified for entity dimension, then it will take USA, irrespective of the current view and the fact that the user is owner of some other dimension.
In this case, either you can take it from CV or you can specify the member explicitly while designing the BPF. However, it will not serve your purpose.
When you acces read access to the user for some entity, the user can still view the data. However, he wont be able to send data. So, restricting the view access is not possible in this case.
    Hoep this helps.

  • Why did the setting for my Linksys WRT54G router change spontaneously from encrypted to open mode?

I unplugged power to my Linksys WRT54G (802.11g) router for about six days.  It had been set for WEP 128-bit encryption.  When I replugged it, it identified itself as an open (non-encrypted) network.  I could use it by setting up a new network connection (unencrypted) on my PC, but could not access it using the original (encrypted) PC network connection.
After reinstalling the router, and setting it for WEP 128-bit encryption, it works fine again.
Can anyone explain why the router spontaneously went from encrypted to non-encrypted mode, as a result of being powered down for several days?  (Is this a bug or a feature?

Thank you.  As noted, I reconfigured it & it works fine again.  But do you have any idea why it "lost" its encryption setting by being powered-down?
In particular, is this likely to happen in future if I power-down Linksys?

  • What do 802.1 p priority settings in Actiontec MI424-WR do?

We are having some throughput issues with devices connected wirelessly to our Verizon supplied Actiontec MI424-WR router.  I noticed a page in the router's advanced settings with a bunch of priority settings.  I have never touched them.  They are numbered 0-7; 0-3 are set to low, 4 & 5 are set to medium, and 6 & 7 are set to high.  Does anyone know what they do?

cdrinkard's summary is very good. 802.1p has to do with preferences for how packets are delivered (quality of service) and traffic shaping, not wireless standards.
One caveat you should remember - if you turn on 802.1p you'll probably only get much benefit if all of your other switches on the network also support it. Think of it like a "tag" that is attached to the packets that fit the criteria you set.
It can make some difference with how your router manages its internal queues of packets, but where it really comes in handy are environments where the whole LAN is busy and you need to make sure that certain services or hosts don't experience a lot of delay (latency) or jitter (variability of latency).
If you have other switches, they need to be able to read the tag on the packet as well, otherwise all of your packets get tossed back into the same bucket. Do NOT just set everything you find to the highest number and expect that to make a difference - you'll just be back where you started. The whole point is to differentiate services from each other. Just remember that you can't ever add to more than 100%.

  • Help with Spry Detail Regions, XML Data Sets, for IMG gallery

    Hello,
I'm working on a site for a friend of mine, a photo gallery. You can see the gallery here, it's a temporary one I'm working on

Here are some important parts of my code:
//initially load these data sets. the function will be called by the links to update components later<script type="text/javascript">
         var intNumPhoto = 0;
         dsGallery = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("photofile.xml", "galleries/ride/photo");

You could view source there to get the code. Here is what I believe is my problem
I'm trying to automate the site so that when you click on one of the links on the left, without refreshing the page, the paths to the galleries xml file changes, and the spry Detail Regions (1 for the images, 1 for the navigation - left and right arrows). I think the problem is that once the link changes the set and calls my updateSpryComponenets() function, the detail regions need to be refreshed. I'm currently trying to solve this by dynamically rewriting the HTML thru .innterHTML, everytime I call updateSpryComponents().There may also be a problem in the Javascript function updateSpryControllers because if I put the alert after the spry calls, I never get the alert
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Update:
Ok, the first query on the Recent tab doesnt work for me because it wont show unless its already voted, and since these are supposed to be new blurts, that kind of breaks the whole site:
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
So I replaced it with what I originally had.
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date FROM Blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
But this doesn't provide me with the initial average rating:(

  • WRT54G....Can I set DHCP to use the router for DNS instead of external DNS?

Hi folks. I cant' get my router to have DHCP tell my PCs that the router should be the DNS server instead of the external servers it is using. I am using Comcast Cable internet. It sets the external DNS servers for every PC that connects to it and I have problems finding my PCs on my network by NetBIOS name because the external DNS servers obviously don't store my local PCs. How can I set the router up to set DHCP to use the router for DNS?

If you cannot set the DNS server in the configuration page for the DHCP server in your router then your router does not support this.
This won't solve your problem though. The DNS server on the router is a simply forwarder. It simply forwards the DNS requests from your computer to the ISP's DNS servers. The DNS server does not accept dynamic updates to a private zone inside your LAN. And DNS is pretty much unrelated to the standard windows workgroup browsing which does the actual name resolution inside your LAN. That name resolution even works without a router inside your network. Basically all windows computers in your network periodically broadcast their name to the network. One windows computers is elected "master browser" which collects all these names and provides the name resolution service for all computers in the workgroup.
If this does not work it is most likely a windows configuration problem. It could be a software firewall on the computers which blocks traffic. It could be that the computers are not setup for file/printer sharing and thus have the computer browser disabled. It could be that your computers have a WINS server configured which does not exist. There are probably more causes. The better source to ask this question would probably a Microsoft support group. They deal with these kinds of issues more often and maybe a MVP may be able to point you into the right direction or give some links to step-by-step instructions...

    Hi
    On my macbook pro
I'm try to set up a new Epson printer SX 445 to my router/network but each time I run the set up wizard it fails to complete saying Security Key/Password Check fail.
*entered security key/password does not match the one set for for router.
I know that the password is correct and have rechecked this by changing it a few times
and I still get the same result.
My network internet service provider is not interested and says to call Epson.
Anybody have any clues how I can resolve this?
    Regards

I personally suggest the new Drobo FS. Since it has an iTunes server built in and you can use any size sata hard drive in it it is better and a NAS that has to use the same size drives.

  • Actiontec MI424WR Gen2 router (revision E) firmware bug

I just received a new Actiontec MI424WR Gen2 (revision E) router.  It works fine, but I encountered a software bug when editing Parental Controls.
If you remove a website address from a rule, it deletes it from website list, but it also adds it to keyword list.  If you save the rule and then try to edit it to remove the keywords, the keywords are not deleted.  The firmware version is 20.8.0
If there is newer firmware which addresses it, I cannot find it, as this model router is not listed on the
    firmware download page http://www2.verizon.net/micro/fios_router_update/

You were told correctly. Even though the Wireless G does not support the 35/35. Rev. E is is what most everyone is getting. But I have heard of some Rev. F going out at times. I guess it depends on availability, when the Rev. E runs out of production, perhaps when there is no more Rev. E in stock. I know even on a wired connection the Rev. C is prone to locking up when playing multi user games such as X Box. Now if you were having problems with the X Box App for FiOS TV, I would demand a new one. Even Gen 2 Rev. E is better than C. Will not help wireless much. If you have your router plugged into the Rev. C, I would say the Rev. C should go. Option I used. I use the Hawking HWABN1, but there are cheaper ones available.
I would say that Rev C is very old, and you should qualify for a newer version, since it is locking up intermittantly. Rev. C will probably be told to send to the recyle bin.

and I tried valiently for months to get it replaced with a Rev F (or is it Rev G - I forget)  wireless N router.  I was even told that I would get a new Wireless N router when I upgraded my service to 35/35 from 15/5. I even had a date/time set for a tech to do the install of the new router.
But in the end Verizon would not do it, and told me that the Wireless N models are only for business accounts and only for the 125/50 service.
As a result of this I bought a separate N router which I have set up as an N access point.  This works OK but is an annoying (and costly) alternative to what could have been a clean solution.
I'd rate this level of customer service as poor.

  • What's the newest revision of Actiontec MI424?

What's the newest revision of Actiontec MI424? I'm receiving a replacement router for my Rev. F and want to find out whether I get the newest revision or not.

Can I expect performance improvement over Rev. E?
Maybe, depending on what devices you need to attach wirelessly. I have an Actiontec Rev. D and replaced it with a Rev. I, and the speed was pretty much the same. But the Rev. I came set for WPA2 in B/G/N compatibility mode, I changed that to WPA2 N Performance Mode with AES encryption, and the speed went way up. Of course this change eliminated any B/G wireless connectivity, so I have my old Rev. D connected to one of the LAN ports on the Rev. I and use that for an old laptop that does not have an N adapter:
Rev. I is on the bottom, Rev. D top.
If you have only N devices you should be able to get a significant speed increase by making the changes I mentioned above.

  • Configuring E3000 to work with Verizon FIOS actiontec cable modem / router

Hi all, I've read knowledgebase Article ID: 3733, which seems to get me on the right track, but the router menu screens shown do not match the E3000's screens.
I have a FIOS cable modem / router in the basement that I need to keep since it drives all the FIOS guide and on demand features. I have a NAS drive in the basement and all the house hard wiring runs to the basement as well.
I wanted wireless n and a better location for the wireless access point, so I bought the E3000 and put it in the kitchen on the main floor
When I wired a numbered LAN port on the E3000 to a numbered LAN port on the ActionTec and brought  the router up all worked fine, but quickly found that wireless clients could not see the NAS.  I suspect that this is because the E3000 uses a different address range(192.168.0.1)  than the actiontec (http://192.168.1.1/).  I ended up moving the NAS upstairs to temporarily fix this, but my wife would like me to get it out of her kitchen ASAP :-)
I tried just about every setting imaginable (setting IP of E3000 actiontec range, disabling NAT, disabling DHCP, enabling/disabling RIP) to get the E3000 to simply become a wireless gateway and wired switch and let the actiontec do the routing but never could get it to work.
Could someone post a version of Article ID: 3733 that works for the E3000???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Press and hold the reset button on E3000 router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle E3000 router.
Now connect one computer to Ethernet port 2 on the router ( Do not connect the cable between modem and E3000 )
open the setup page of E3000. Change the wireless settings of E3000 router.
Go to Setup tab and change the IP address of E3000 router to 192.168.1.2.
Disable DHCP server on the router and save the settings.
Do NOT change any other settings ( NAT firewall ).
Connect the cable from modem to the Ethernet port 1 on E3000 router. power cycle the router.
Now try to access the Internet through E3000 router.

  • New Mac user, new to Wireless - looking for recommendations on a router

Hello all! I am new to Macs, and to wireless in general. I just bought a used Powerbook which of course has wireless capability. So my next step will be to set up a router. However, I have no experience with this, and am definitely not a computer geek at heart. So I am looking for recommendations on a router/wireless network system that seems to work well with Macs (and PC's as I now have both) and doesn't require vast amounts of computer networking knowledge to set up and get working. What works well? What should be avoided? Many thanks for your input! (Oh, if it makes any difference, my internet connection is DSL.)

I would strongly recommend the AirPort Extreme. Its simple, doesn't do much but it does the job perfectly. It never drops out and the distance of the signal is far (you can be online in your back and front yard). And its really easy to setup. And it works with both systems. But I do recommend getting a new one instead of a used one because you'll need the newer version of AirPort Assistant to set it up because older version of Tiger doesn't have that programme pre-installed.

I don't think so, no, although probably nobody ever tried it.
The only option I could think of is setting up their domain in your own
DNS server and define two mx records there. A tad nasty, but doable.

Sometimes the designer will give you different error or better clues as to what is going on. E.g.; this could even be a database issue. An eval of CR 2008 is available from [here|http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx]

  • Currency in report taken from regional setting and not infocube

    Dear All,
I am facing very strange issue. I am using BEx analyzer 7.0
I executed a report in Windows 2000, Excel 2003. The values are displayed correctly with currency which is in cube irrespective of the currency set in regional option in control panel.
We are doing testing on windows vista and excel 2007 as we will upgrade to SAP GUI 7.10 and windows vista. I executed the report and the result values are matching but the currency is differant. The currency is taken from the regional settings in control panel. If I go to regional setting and change the currency, the report which is open in BEx analyzer changes the currency.
We are facing this strange issue for only queries on 1 infocube. Other queries on another infocubes/multicubes are working fine.
Has anyone faced the same issue. Please provide some pointers/solutions for above issue.
    Regards,
    Niraj

    Hi Shalu
    The Library 0FL has 4 currencies... i.e.
    HSL  - Local Currency
    TSL   - Transaction Curre
    KSL  - Second Currency
    OSL  - Third Currency
Go to GRR2 (Report form of your report), and double click on any column... You choose Key Figures in the Columns in a areport painter report... there you would have chosen any one of these currencies...
Right click on the column and Copy it and paste it... Now change the Key Figure of the copied column to the one you desire...
This should give you values in both currency...
To identify which form you have used in GRR2 - Execute your report and go to Extras Menu > Technical Information.. In the pop up window that opens, double click on field "Report".
