Regional LTE compatibility.

I have a Purchase decision to make regarding the iPhone 5s and Regional LTE compatibility: I have numbers for O2 in UK; China Mobile in CN and AT&T in the US. Assuming China Mobile rolls out a full 4g service at the end of 2013, at least in Shanghai where I live most of the time, will I be able to buy an iPhone 5s that will work to its full potential in all of these places?
It seems to me that the LTE "standard" isn't all that standard. Why can't Apple build a phone that covers all the networks in one model?

Buy the phone where you plan to use it most of the time. There are so many permutations of LTE and many countries have not adopted it yet, so to build a phone at this time with all the LTE channels, will most likely be impractical and expensive.
At least the 5s has more LTE "compatibility" than the previous model.

  • 4G LTE iPhone 5: Carrier Settings Update never came

    Hello,
Just to say, before I start: This question is related to Switzerland's Swisscom's 4G LTE network and iPhone 5.
I have updated to iOS 6.1 (for Swisscom 4G LTE compatibility, it's now compatible), but didn't get the carrier settings update, and when I reset the iPhone (including erase all content), I got the Carrier Setting Update and it enabled 4G LTE, but I have progressed in lots of apps and games (mainly apps), and it will be very difficult to do a full restore and recover all my progress etcetera. How can I get the Carrier Settings Update? I went to Swisscom, and they said to erase the iPhone, but again this would be a big inconvenience and I am trying to avoid it.
Sorry about any problems: I'm not very tech savvy with iOS devices, and this is my first post here so I may have put in the wrong section.
    Thanks a lot in advance

Well, I've connected my phone to iTunes, and still nothing has come. My friend's iPhone 5 did have enable LTE, when he updated and I believe he got it over the air, and didn't connect it to iTunes. iTunes is still syncing...
Thank you very much for helping
It's suddenly appeared. My three friend's iPhone 5's carrier settings update came straight away after updating this morning (we updated together), and mine has come about 7 and a half hours later... but still, it's come. I don't think this was related to iTunes (by the looks of it).
Thanks a lot for helping me, and for the quick replies.

  • Adding 4G / LTE module to X230

There is a sim card slot under the battery on my X230 (purchased in Dec 12). Is there an LTE compatable WWAN module I could add it the machine ? If so can anyone suggest suitable part numbers ? My laptop is a 2306CTO

  • When will iPhone 5 be compatible with Brazilian internet 4G

I live in Brazil and would like to have an iPhone 5. But (what I thought unthinkable) I got to know it's not compatible with Brazilian internet 4G. When will iPhone 5 be compatible with our 4G? Is Apple doing anything about this? I see no point in buying an expensive an state of the art phone and not to be able to use it with 4G. And about other devices like iPad and iPod?
    Thank you.

We don't know. However, what Apple knows and is willing to share regarding 4G/LTE compatibility is found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937  (updated recently).

  • I am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the US bought iphone 5 work in germany?

i am in the military and will be moving to germany in a month. would the iphone 5 work in germany?

An unlocked GSM phone would work anywhere with any SIM card.  But, if the German iPhone 5 is th a1429-GSM only model, it will not work with AT&T nor T-Mobile's LTE frequencies here.  Similarly, the A1428 model sold for use with AT&T here may not work overseas as the LTE frequencies may be different then the two supported ones.
In terms of technology, 2 or 3 years is a looong time.  By the time you get back, the iPhone 5 will be ancient tech.  I would suggest you just get one in Germany so you know it will be fine over there.  When you come back in 2 or 3 years, sell it, donate it or whatever, and get something new that you again know will be fine for use here in the USA.
Plus that way, you could buy a contract subsidized German phone, and save on the initial cost of the phone.  If you buy from AT&T here, even if they will unlock it because of your service, what happens with the contract?  And if you buy an unlocked one (when they become available), ignoring the LTE compatability issues, you pay a lot more out of pocket for the phone.
No matter what you buy, it is going to be very, very behind the tech curve after 2 or 3 years (not to mention, it may well be needing a new battery, which might well cost more to replace then that old phone would be worth on the used market).

  • That America unenhanced and sim unlocked iPhone 5 will it work in Turkey?

That America unenhanced and sim unlocked iPhone 5 will it work in Turkey?

If you purchased an officially and fully unlocked iPhone 5 from an Apple store in the US, then yes, it will work in Turkey.
If you did not buy your phone from an Apple store, then it will be sim free rather than unlocked, which is different, so it probably will not work.
Also, you need to remember, that yes your phone will work with local sim cards if it is unlocked, but you won't be able to get any 4G or LTE cover because the frequencies differ from the US to what is available in Turkey, so you will have an iPhone 5 with 4G capability that you can't use - only on 3G.
You also need to consider the warranty issue.  The warranty for the iPhone 5 is only valid for the US if you buy it in the US, so if anything goes wrong with your phone, then you'll have to go back to the US.  No shop in Turkey will help you with it because of the US warranty.
If you want an iPhone 5 then buy an unlocked phone from an Apple store in Europe and then you will get an EU wide warranty and you will be covered and chances are that you will get 4G and LTE compatibility too as it is Europe.
Apple stores in Paris and the UK sell unlocked iPhones.  Not sure about others.

  • Iphone 5, carrier choosing confusing

Hi, Im from maldives ! im planing on buying an iphone 5 from the u.s apple site and ship it to me through MYUS, my question is if i choose verizone,At&t or sprint..will i be able to use the phone i bring with my maldivian sim card ??
Because there is no way i can just buy an iphone without choosing a carrier or some plans that i dont understand at all :/ Any help would be much appreciated
    thanx

Okay, firstly, if you live in the Maldives, then you WON'T be able to order an iPhone 5 from the Apple store US. To be able to do this, you need an American registered credit card and an American address, there is no international shipping available, so you won't be able to order in the first place.
Also, yes correct, all US iPhone's need to be purchased with a contract from either of the 3 carriers for 2 years - there are NO unlocked iPhone 5's available, so NO, you can't do any of what you are asking and all answers to your questions are NO.
You also need to remember that there is no international warranty on the iPhone either and there are also LTE compatibility issues between countries.
Be patient and wait until the iPhone 5 is available in the Maldives and buy it there.

  • Simlock free iPhone

If i buy an simlock free iphone in the us could i use it with a german sim card ?

4G/LTE is the current high speed protocol for cellular iPhones,
but not all countries use the same bands/frequencies and therefore
an iPhone purchased in the US may not be able to take advantage of
the high speed in EU. This is the case for the iPhone 5; I have not
yet looked into all the specifications of the 5c and 5s.
Surely one of the more knowledgeable contributors will jump in soon
with the latest on 5c/5s international 4G/LTE compatability. And then
    we will both learn something.

  • Mac/PC playability

I authored a project on DVD SP 4.2.1 and it's having considerable trouble playing on a relatively new Windows PC. While authoring I checked all the regions for compatibility, but this DVD (two different brands of DVDs to eliminate variables) will hardly be recognized on a PC. Any suggestions?

I fully agree on Windows Media Player. Hardware manufacturers realize how buggy it is and will include a true DVD player program (like WinDVD or PowerDVD) on all the machines they sell.
You also have to make sure that you are creating a SD DVD and not a HD DVD. HD DVDs will only play on Macs and never on PCs.

  • DVD region compatability on Macbook

I bought a Macbook in Britain, and it wont play region 2 DVDs. Any ideas? Is it possible to de-region a Macbook, in the same way you would a DVD player?

Yes, the previous answers are absolutely correct. But just to clarify - MacBooks are allowed to change their DVD region 5 times before the 5th region becomes permanent. Presumably, this is to allow one to use your computer around the world, but not allow you to bypass DVD copyright/region laws.
So yes, it looks like you region changes are "used up". I don't know of any other way besides using a third-party solution like mentioned above.

.. The Drop down menu is not behaving well...
As you may c by the picture, the drop down menu now moves to the right. and is not because of the object to its left, i've modified that. Zinger Products Drop Down Menu also does the same.

  • Windows 8.1 Compatibility Problem With CP1518

I have an HP LaserJet CP1518ni printer that I purchased 2 or 3 years ago.  We recently had our previous computers MOBO go out on us and had to replace our computer.  I decided to purchase a machine with Windows 8.1.  When I tried to install my printer, it will not recognize the printer at all.  I have tried installing/uninstalling, different drivers, the DOT4 communications software, everything that I can think of.  It just won't communicate with the computer.  In searching the internet, I have found two different places on HP's website that it discusses compatibility.  In one place, it says that it is USB and Networking compatible with Windows 8.1 and refers me to the Universal Print Driver.  In the other place, it is shown in a table that says my printer is not compatible with Windows 8.1.  I would hope that this is not the case, as the printer is not that old and was fairly expensive to purchase for a home office.  Has anyone had this issue with compatibility with Windows 8.1?  And, has anyone found a way to get Windows 8.1 to communicate with the printer?

    Hi ClarkUELS,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a bit of an issue attempting to install the printer on to your Windows 8.1 computer.
I suggest that you start from scratch and turn the printer on and the computer on. Connect the usb cable to the computer and then the printer.  You will then see a Found New Hardware connection.  Go ahead and run the add a printer and select the CP1510 series.  This is a generic print driver and once it is installed you should be able to print with no issues.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
