  • Pitch Shift selected sections of track

Is there a way to pitch shift select parts of a track? What I need to do is take a sound file of text-to-speech and change the pitch of individual words, or parts of words, in order to make it "sing" (I know it won't be good quality, that's part of the effect we're going after). We've tried using the Master Pitch control but it does nothing. Is it possible to make the track follow a midi score?
    Any ideas?

several steps are needed. you'll need to
make the region respond to pitch change:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#changeimportedtempo
    split up the region:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#split
and finally use the region pitch slider in the track editor:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#opentrackeditor
    to change each as desired.

  • Key changes in Loops

Can the key be changed during the song using loops? ie. in the key of A, can I make the loop change to D and E?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes.(but only if it's midi, audio will sound like crap changing the key.) Double click the region you want to change the key of. When the region's window pops up from the bottom, go to, on the left hand side, where it says "region pitch" drag that slider to the approprate place to change it to the key you want.

  • HELP! i'm not good with this

Alright, so for one of my college classes we are working with garage band and we are forced to make a song completely with the loops. We are not allowed to use anything else (not that I would know how to anyway) but that's beside the point. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any tips on using the loops? I have a sound that i'm liking so far but I really want to change the key i'm in...(maybe thats what its called, i don't even know) and i was wondering if you can change the loops around so you can hear what you want and have a little variety in the the sound. I know i'm not doing a good job of explaning what i want...but i'm really very unexperienced with garage band.
    Thank you very much!!!!

It sounds like you what to change the harmony of a loop, like changing chords on a guitar. If so, you can do that with the Track Editor (the icon looks like a sissors cutting a waveform). To see how it works try this:
    - Drag a loop into a track (a struming guitar works well).
    - Option-drag out a couple of copies of the loop.
    - Select the 2nd copy and open the Track Editor.
    - Move the Region Pitch slider to +4.
    - Select the 3rd copy and move the current time indicator to the midpoint. Edit>Split to cut it into 2 pieces.
    - In the track editor set the Region Pitch of the 1st half to +5 and the 2nd half to -4. (+5 and -4 are the same chord, just a way to get variety).
Listen to what you've done... it's the standard 3 chord pattern (I/IV/V) at the heart of so many rock songs.
    Hope this helps,

  • SQL Loader Messages in Java (What do they mean?)

    Hi,
I have been able to execute SQL Loader from a Servlet and I have also been able to retrieve the exit code by calling
    {returnCode = process.waitFor()}.
I know that a "0" in the exit code indicates a successful execution. However what do the values larger than "0" mean? Does anyone know where I can find out more about these messages.? My servlet container is WebLogic 7.1 on Windows 2000.
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

indeed it was. no one mentioned a region pitch number, but that doesn't mean anything, of course, people fail to mention all kinds of important bits.
Still the OP said he just dropped a loop in the timeline.
    ::shrug:: i dunno

  • Getting a Song into the Right Key?

I'm trying to use GarageBand as an accompanying "band" for improvisation practice for myself and my students. I can't seem to figure out how to get a tune using only GB loops into the exact key I want. For example, I set the song to E major (and that shows as the master track), and put together some loops for a really nice track, but realized that it ended up being in G major (E natural minor).
Any way to make sure any loops only are in that exact key, or to get them to transpose to that key? I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

The simple solution, but it may not sound to good, is to simply to change the region pitch parameter, located in the editors, until you hit the correct key.
HOWEVER, for audio loops, this ain't a gonna sound too good. My experience is that the loop engine sounds much better at transposition than simple rate conversion in the editor, assuming the use different technologies (the loop engine, same as in SoundTrack or Logic, being the one that transposes everything to the project key).
You could get really tricky: copy all the loops you want to a new folder. Download and launch the Apple Loop Utility. Calculate what keys you need for each loop, set this in the utility and save. You've now just changed the 'native' key for a loop and GB will transpose it differently.
For example if a loop was in C, and you've sinced moved your song up to the key of E, the loop is now a major third too high, so set the loops key (in the ALU) to G#/Ab. You can then of course in GB add this loop to your library.
In the long run, you need loops that match your chord progressions - there's no substitute for that.
AND it's best to always start out your song in the correct key. Susbsequent key changes then work better, since every track moves in sync.

  • Switching back and forth between keys on vocal track

I followed the instructions in the garage band tutorial for changing key (pitch?) of a vocal track for part of the project. Doesn't seem to work the way they suggest - calling up master track, adding a point on the automation line where I want change to begin and raising automation line on other side to raise pitch. No change seems apparent.
This vocal track is actually a rap that involves a person talking to a bug. I recorded the rap in key of D, want to raise pitch of the part that has the bug 'talking' to give it cartoony effect. I tested it on whole track by changing key normal way and raising key from 'D' to 'G' seemed to have best 'feel' for what I want. Can I switch keys back and forth in Garage Band and if so, how?
I also have Soundtrack installed with my Final Cut Pro, but would like to stick with Garage Band for this project if possible.
    Judy

if you read the docs, your own recordings are not affected by the master pitch.
for your project it probably makes more sense to use the Vocal Transformer effect anyway (the alternate choice would be to use the Region Pitch control in the Track Editor)

  • Keyboard issues in garageband

    Hey,
I just bought a (rather cheap) little USB 37 key keyboard, the eKeys model, and I'm trying to change the octive on garage band to play lower keys but it remains in the current middle C octave. Am I missing something?
    Thanks

Play it anyway and then use 'Region Pitch' in the Arrange window to transpose it. Most of them have an 'octave up' and 'octave down' facility, but yours, being entry-level, doesn't.

  • How do I change the key?  (MIDI In)

I've got an external keyboard connected via MIDI triggering the stock Grand Piano sw instrument. I need to change the key of the playback; the key change popup under Master Track has no effect, and the Region Pitch slider is greyed out. Is there some other way to change the playback key?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Thanks for the reply. There's not a region to select, as I haven't yet recorded anything; I need the instrument to playback realtime in a different key. It doesn't seem to respond to my keyboard's transpose output either, btw. I hope GB can handle this; every synth/module/midi keyboard I've played going back to the early 80's can do this.
    Jeff

  • Flex pitch feature is not working on all the regions why is that?

Flex pitch feature is not working on all the regions why is that?

Sorry that my guess about what you are using was wrong. How about telling us exactly what you installed to provide that '''auto translate''' feature in Firefox?
If you don't know, give us a list of the extensions that you ''do'' have installed so that we don't have to wildly guess or so we can do an '''''educated guess''''' as to which one isn't working.
Help > Troubleshooting Information = use the '''Copy all to clipboard''' button, then paste into a text editor program. Then delete all but the list of '''Extensions''' and copy'n'paste that to the Reply box here.

  • Add loops to Arrange without sync Pitch and Tempo

I recently purchased a package of Audio loops. This package contained audio files in wav and AIFF format. I tried to add the AIFF loops to Loop browser and Logic but it didn't work. The pitch of the loops would change as I dragged them toward the arranment. So I removed them from the loop browser and tried to use the wav files dragging them from the File Folder and when the only to get the same results. It's strange because when I play them on itunes or other programs they're in the right pitch, but as soon as I transfer them to logic the pitch changes.
How can I use these loops in Logic without changing the pitch?

    If they are Apple loops...
Use the aiff versions.. and select the region created when you added the loop... Now use transpose in the Region Inspector on the left of the Arrange window..  to set the loop to play at the correct pitch for your piece.
If they are not Apple loops.. use the transpose function as described above and then stretch/flex the region to fit the tempo of your piece.

  • How can I add vocal effects other than the 9 Voice options? (I can't shift pitch)

    Hello!
I am making the switch from PC and am just trying to lower the pitch of a vocal track by at least an octave; I just got a MBP last week and am running GB 10.0.2. I can't find any info on similar problems that is helpful; most solutions I've come across show that when the track is selected, there should be a pitch shift bar with a sliding button, but I do not have that. I read a lot of people saying something about the track being purple or not, but I'm not sure if that's relative to the version I have or if that has anything to do with what's happening. When I select the track, in the little area toward the lower left when "Track" is selected, (what is that space called?) where the pitch shift option is for other people, I only have a sliding bar for Pitch Correction, and a checkbox for Limit to Key and Enable Flex. When "Region" is selected, it just shows the name of the region and there are no options. Another question I have is how to change the pitch of midi sounds? When the keyboard is open on the screen I have tried moving the little octave shifter, but it assigns the sounds that are on the keyboard at different locations if I move it, so it changes the sound completely. A couple of them shift one octave up or down, but there are no actual controls..
I'm mostly just dabbling with EDM/trap/Hiphop tracks at the moment, but am confused about whether or not there are other vocal effects and controls other than the preset Voice options in the instrument area (Bright vocal, Classic vocal, compressed vocal, Edge vocal, etc.)? I'm not going to be using GB forever, but are there not any other options like for current rap/trap production (phaser, balance, EQ, auto tune, choppers, actual voice altering effects, etc.) [preferably without buying extra things]? And not only vocals, but editing effects for all sounds.. If so, how do I get to them? And if not I know I should at least be able to lower or raise the pitch of a vocal recording... There are some pretty legit electronic instruments that are exactly the kind of sound I'm going for so I was surprised to not see an equally simple to access vocal effects board or something. Any additional tips for a n00b electronic music producer would also be greatly appreciated! Thank you for any help!

In GarageBand 10 you can no longer change a track with an audio file to a "purple" audio recording, as it has been possible in GarageBand '11.
Even, if you can make the transpose slider visible by enlarging the the track editor panel, the slider will be disabled.
What you can do however, is either add an AuPItch filter  from the audioUnit panel or to convert your audio file to loop and to admit from the Loop Browser.
In the new GarageBand you add the AuPitch filter from the Smart Controls.
Enlarge the SmartControl panel by dragging the dividing line upwards, until you see the Audio Units brick, then add an Apple Audio Unit and set it to AuPitch.
Or create a loop from the audio file. Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library". You need to trim the filet an exact number of measures.
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop. Make sure, that one-shot loop is not enabled.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample  like any regular loop.

  • How can I change the pitch of a track?

In Garageband 10.03, how can I change the pitch of a track?
It seems that I somehow mistakenly changed the pitch of a guitar track I had recorded, so that al the notes in the track sound like they're about an octave too high.
I don't know how I did that, and how to make the pitch slider appear so that I can try to lower the pitch.
I saw three Youtube videos that show how to change a track's pitch by using the pitch slider, but none of them explain how to make the pitch slider appear.
The pitch slider is supposed to appear in the lower, left corner of my window, but it doesn't appear in my window.  Instead the lower, left corner of my window says things like, Region, Notes, Time Quantize, Strength and Transpose.

There's much to learn in Garageband!
If you want a comprehensive introduction to the new GarageBand, have a look at Edgar Rothermich's book:
Edgar's "GarageBand 10.0 How it Works"  explains it very well with many screenshots. You can buy it as iBook from the Book store, as PDF,  or as printed book from Amazon, Only, this version of the manual has been written for GarageBand 10.0.1, Some features have changed slightly since then.

  • HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02

HOW DO I CHANGE THE PITCH OF A MP3 TRACK IN GARAGE BAND 10.0.02 , i could do it in old version looking at the you tube video, now the screen looks different cant find how to do it. Can some one put up a video please
    Thanks

    There are three ways:
Use an AuPitch filter on the track
Or turn the audio region into a loop
Enable "Follow Tempo and Pitch" for the track and use the transposition slider (that does not always work reliably)
    To add an AuPitch filter:
Enable the audio Units in the GarageBand Preferences and then open the Smart Controls.
To add the AuPitch filter audio unit, click the Audio Unit button and enlarge the Smart Controls pane by dragging the dividing line to the Track Area upwards.
click the Audio Units Brick and add the AuPitch filter:
Type the pitch change in cents (100 cents per half note step) into the text field below the pitch control.
To create a loop from the audio file:
Select the region in the track and use the command "File: Add region to Loop library".
Set the current key and tempo, name the loop, and save the loop.
Now add it from the loop browser to a new track and delete your old track. The search field in the Loop browser will help you to find the loop quickly.
You will be able to transpose the sample like a regular loo by changing the project key.
