  • Unable to sign up for any Oracle Develop sessions at OOW 2006

Has anyone with a full conference pass been able to sign up for the Oracle Develop Sessions through the Schedule Builder tool? I talked to a customer service rep a couple weeks ago, and she said there was a problem with their Schedule Builder tool and thought it would be fixed later that day, but I still can't get any OD sessions to show up.
    thanks

    Hi, Pat ,
Thanks for your posting. I'm glad you managed to get a copy of the slides.
I was waiting on Summit to mail the CDs which should contain everything , but I have not received anything yet.
    As for your questions ::
Do you use the Banner ODS? Answer : We have a home-grown "ODS" which we call the Data Mart . It serves the same reporting functions as the ODS.
I see that you are using LDAP authentication using OID. But are you able to utilize Banner security as well or is all your security access control in ApEx?Answer : We do not use any banner security for our Apex applications. Nor did we want to "develop" any "authentication-related" security feaures with Apex.
We decided OID had all that we needed for security - so we delegated all the authentication and most of the authorization-related security to OID.
Of course, we still have many other levels of security we custom-built for the data and the application at either theApEx/application level or the Database level.
Did you install the database components of ApEx into the Banner instance or another instance? Answer : As shown on Slides #14 and #15, we installed ApEx in our Reporting Database (data mart or ODS) . Not in the Banner database.
Do you have the Apex database installed in the same instance as Banner? Answer : You can install ApEx on any oracle database. Banner databases are Oracle databases and I see no problems installing ApEx over a Banner database.
We chose not to install ApEx on the Banner database, but on the reporting database to answer our business/ERP requirements.
Do you also use Sungard's Luminis Portal? or is your "myportal.wellesley.edu" totally built on Apex? Answer : We do not use Luminis. We use Oracle Application Server and Oracle Collaboration Suite to build our "my.wellesley.edu" for the entire community.
And yes we do integrate ApEx a lot with our portal.
I am curious since we do use Luminis Portal and so would be curious how to integrate Portlets from Apex into Luminis.
I guess since Apex can authenticate against LDAP it should not be too difficult. Answer : I am sure ApEx will work with Luminis on an "LDAP" point of view because Luminus uses SunOne's LDAP from SunOne's Identitity Management suite.
But the SSO feature of Luminis is what you should investigate if you want to integrate ApEx seamlessly with Luminis.
I see from your slides that the Web component is installed on the same app server as the Banner forms/self service. Answer : Yes you can leverage the existing http server with OracleApplication Server since it is mod-plsql enabled. "One stone kills 2 birds"
Also, thus far it looks like you are mainly using it for read only applications.
Are you considering using Apex for any self-service or Forms alternative application development possibly using the new Banner APIs?Answer : Yes we are considering ApEx for other "non banner" transactions - possible candidates : events organized by the college, alumni etc etc.
    Thanks
    Indira

  • Can Jdeveloper Be Used For Non-Oracle Databases

I have been trying to evaluate Jdeveloper 9i and Jbuilder 7 Enterprise for Swing database development. I am particularly interested in the productivity enhancements such as BC4J and Jclient. The underlying database might be Oracle, SapDb (excellent, easy to use, and free), SQLServer, etc.
I evaluated Jbuilder Enterprise tools and it worked flawlessly with SapDb. This emphasized using their DataExpress and DbSwing components which provide many useful capabilities similar to BC4j and Jclient. It also involved using their DBPilot tool which allows browsing similar to that provided via a Jdeveloper connection.
I tried to use Jdeveloper for the same SapDB and it is essentially non-functional. I followed the instructions for using a non-default driver and tried to define a connection. It behaved inconsistently: often saying no suitable driver can be found and yet when you edit the connection and test without making any changes, it works. If you try to establish a BC4J definition, it is very inconsistent and fails to recognize important details as foreign keys. Even if you define a ViewLink manually, it still does not work properly if you attempt to define a Master-Detail Jclient form. As I have stated, all these types of capabilities worked flawlessly in their Jbuilder equivalent. Furthermore, I really like the fact that Jbuilder gives many of BC4Js benefits without needing a BC4J J2EE container.
Has anyone had real success using Jdeveloper's advanced features to develop for non-Oracle databases and if so, how did you get around these types of problems?

    Hi,
generally, SCAN can be used for 10g databases and you discovered the first half: for 10g databases you will have to modify the REMOTE_LISTENER entry for each 10g database instance to point to the SCAN listeners (as opposed to pointing to the remote local listeners, which is the default in 10g). You could even have the databases registers themselves with SCAN and the remote listeners, if you wanted to... It's more or less a matter of configuration. But for simplification reasons, I will stick to the case where you have your 10g databases register with the SCAN listeners only.
Now the other half is the client and the client configuration. An 11g Rel. 2 client configured for RAC would have a TNSNAMES entry that has only one address line for the RAC databases. The host entry in this one address line should point to the SCAN (the SCAN name is ideally resolved in DNS). A 10g client configured for RAC would have as many address lines in the TNSNAMES as you have nodes in the cluster.
The 10g client SCAN configuration would then be in the middle so to speak: You would have 3 address lines in your TNSNAMES, in which each host entry would resolve to one SCAN address (I assume you will use the recommended default of 3 SCAN IPs). If you choose, you can have a name resolution for each of your SCAN IPs, but this would not be required. Now, why would you do it this way? Because this configuration will always work and does not make you dependent on certain functionality that your DNS server may or may not offer.
For the remaining questions: SCAN is a DNS entry resolving one name to more than one (typically 3) IP addresses. OID is short for Oracle Internet Directory, which is a complete LDAP server. And you are right that there is no document how to configure 10g clients for SCAN from Oracle yet. However, there is a quite good document on SCAN on otn.oracle.com/rac, but I am sure you are aware of it already.
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus

    Hi,
When I run the Diagnostic Tool and select Application, then it say "No Groups have been registered for the Advance Test". Though it shows number of test available for that application for ex. 4, 15. Please help me.

  • There are no readers registered for the txt type - Issue importing txt file

    Hello guys,
I am working on SQL developer 3.2. and Oracle database 11g. I am trying to import a txt file with only two columns and 100 rows separated with a pipe. I can import the same file if its in *.CSV or *.xls format. I right click on the table > Import table > Choose the *.txt file > and then I get a message "There are no readers registered for the txt type". Why? Where do I get the reader? I am using the same exact method and the same exact data to import using a different file format and I do not get any errors. The wizard comes up and I am ready to load. I have scoured through this forum for a solution and I could not find one. Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thank you!

It means we don't support that file type for doing imports. It sounds like a reasonable request to [add to the Exchange|sqldeveloper.oracle.com] though.

  • No adapter registered for this channel FOR JDBC COMM CHANNEL

    Hi Friends,
We installed JDBC driver(for Oracle) and it works correctly from Visual Administrator.
We have created comm channel 'jdbc_receiver'.
However, when we check in "Adapter Monitoring", it is not active (Green color) and short text says 'No adapter registered for this channel'. Where should we look further to resolve the issue ? How do we test this comm channel from XI box ?
    Thanks.
    Niranjan

    Hi Niranjan,
    How you solved the problem?
    I have deployed JDBC driver (sqljdbc4.jar) according tohttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/00b4a020-4ae6-2c10-5a95-fed4ad9a4b60?QuickLink=index&… .
Driver deployed successfully and I have checked it in folder \usr\sap\xxx\DVEBMGS30\j2ee\cluster\bin\ext\com.sap.aii.adapter.lib\lib and it's found ok. But this adapter type  not showing in Communication Channel only RFC and SOAP are showing there. I have restarted the server also.

  • Reg: Is it possible in weblogic 5.1 or 6 to get Transaction suport for MQseries & Oracle

              Hi
I would like to know whether weblogic 5.1 or 6 provides support in a single transaction,
transaction support for both oracle and MQseires, if so where can i find suitable
              documentation on this topic
              with regards
              Priya

The answer is definitely yes, starting in WLS 6.0, with
              some two reasonable limitations.
There are limitations are the following:
              1. It must be on the server side. The registration of the XAResource
can't happen in a client. It must happen in a startup class
or EJB or servlet, etc. You can start it from a client (invoke
an EJB or servlet) but the resource work must be
              on the server side.
              2. MQSeries can't be included if it is being used to drive a
Message Driven Bean. Because the message is passed
from MQ Series to WLS outside of a transaction, after
which WLS will start a transaction (if so configured) and
pass it to the MDB, the MQ Series message is not part
of the transaction. The JavaSoft specs don't handle this case.
For WLS JMS, this works because we have defined such
an interface and implemented it. At least one other vendor
understands the importance of having this feature and is
interested in implementing it (it's not IBM).
So to do what you want, it is necessary to:
              1. Use the XAResource version of the JDBC driver for Oracle.
WLS is smart enough to look at the driver and see if it
implements the XAResource interface and automatically
register it as a resource. This has been documented
in this newsgroup already or see
              http://e-docs/wls/docs60/adminguide/jdbc.html#1075694.
              2. Register the XAResource interface for MQSeries programmatically
in the application. The code to do this has been posted
at the BEA developer site for a few months in an article
entitled "Using JTA Transactions to envelope WLS JMS and
IBM MQSeries" (could I be more explicit), located at
              http://developer.bea.com/docs/jmsjta.jsp. It references
another document that has more code, describing how to
plug in a "foreign" (non-WLS) JMS provider, of which MQSeries
is one, in a non-transaction manner (you need to do that
first and then just add the resource registration) - see
              http://developer.bea.com/docs/jmsproviders.jsp.
All of the necessary code is included in the documents (including
how to download and install the Java libraries for MQSeries).
Several people have told me that they have been able to
use this as a starting place for their applications.
You might also want to look at the JMS FAQ at
              http://developer.bea.com/docs/jmsfaq.jsp.
In 6.1, support is added for importing foreign transactions.
That means that in 6.0, WLS can drive a transaction with
WLS JMS, Oracle, and MQ series, with WLS being the
driving force. In WLS 6.1, a non-WLS transaction manager can
drive a transaction that includes (transactionally infects)
              WLS resources (like WLS JMS).
There are no white papers that I know of in this area and I haven't
tested it myself (the goal is to have someone try out
having WebSphere drive a transaction with WLS resources, soon).

  • How to register Package in oracle apps?

    Hi All
How to register package in oracle apps?
If package contains 3 procedure, i want to call 2nd procedure of the package when i submit the concurrent program in srs window.. Can any one give the registration for the same

    To add to Gyan's comment:
    Go to system adminstration responsibility
Create a conc. executable. Select execution method as pl/sql stored program and then enter your second procedure name as follows
    package_name.procedure_name.
Then create conc. program that uses the above executable.
Add the program to a request group.
Add the request group to a responsibility.
Now you will be able to run your procedure.
    Hope this helps,

  • API available for the Oracle PM?

We are developing a tool that will automatically generate a (graph based) workflow, which can be fairly complex (invoke hundreds of web servcie operations).
When the workflow executes we would like the tool to monitor the execution and display the progress dynamically, where each service is displayed as a node on a graph and changes colour as the state of execution changes.
Does the Oracle PM have an API that allows us to interrogate the state of a BPEL process during execution?

There is an API in the client package (Java doc available in C:\orabpel\docs\apidocs) that offers access to the list of activities and the audit trail (disclaimer: the xml representation of the audit trail is rather cryptic at this point).
If you want a more granular mapping, we have seen customers assigning metadata to the in-flight instance as it progresses (assigning a special status for example using <bpelx:exec>setStatus( "...." )</bpelx:exec>.
Finally, in 2.1, we will start advertizing what we call BPEL sensor which are classes that can register for callbacks to monitor the status/health of in-flight process instances. This is the interface for example that our BAM tool will us to collect business events.
    I hope this helps.

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ns0="http://dataaccess/types/" xmlns:ns1="http://www.oracle.com/webservices/internal/literal"><env:Body><env:Fault><faultcode>env:Server</faultcode>
<faultstring>Internal Server Error (serialization error: no serializer is registered for (class org.apache.commons.beanutils.BasicDynaBean, null))</faultstring></env:Fault></env:Body></env:Envelope>
I am using RowSetDynaClass for representing the results of an SQL query.
Please let me know if any one could provide me a solution for this error.
    Thanks.

  • How do I register for updates to MOS documents?

There are some MOS documents that I use regularly. I'd like to be notified by e-mail if one of these documents gets modified so that I can go and read the document to see what's changed. Is there a way to register for updates to MOS notes?
    Thank you

On My Oracle Support, tab Communities, then you should be able to find a forum about MOS (maybe "Using My Oracle Support" forum is the one you are looking for):
