Registered servlets in web.xml do not work....WHY????
Hi i am executing a web application on tomcat 4.1.29 and have the following structure...the jsp pages are executed but when sendinga request to a servlet the servlets are not executed...Can somebody guide me out of this....
webapps
{MyApp}->[web-inf][jsp]
{web-inf}->[classes][lib]
{classes}->[com][src]
{src}->[source files]
when the source files are compiled package structure is followed and the class files are grneated in
com.MyApp.servlets
...etc
the servlets are registered in the web.xml file as shown below.....few lines of my web.xml file
<servlet>
<servlet-name>userServlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.MyApp.servlets.UserServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
even then when accessing a servlet it says the resource not found
The requested resource (/MyApp/servlet/UserServlet) is not available.
am i missing something some where...why are the servlets not executed????
<servlet>
<servlet-name>UserServlet</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.MyApp.servlets.UserServlet</servlet-class>
<load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>UserServlet</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/User</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>I'd invoke it with this URL:
http://localhost:8080/MyApp/UserServlet
hmm something seems to be wrong here ;-)
URL should be
http://localhost:8080/MyApp/User (see <url-pattern>)

Web.xml mapping not working
I have a servlet located at com.conversion.web called leftNavReader.java
I'm trying to access this servlet on my localhost with the following URL: http://localhost:8080/Conversion/start
but I keep getting this error:
HTTP Status 404 - /Conversion/start
type Status report
message /Conversion/start
description The requested resource (/Conversion/start) is not available.
Here is what my web.xml looks like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app>
<display-name>DataConversionWeb</display-name>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>start</servlet-name>
<display-name>Start</display-name>
<servlet-class>com.conversion.web.leftNavReader</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>start</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/start</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
</web-app>
Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error?Since the spaces may cause problems and I have
everything in the My Projects directory, I decide to
just start from scratch. Very good.
But... someone else
installed eclipse for me and set that up, so I may
need some help with that, not sure if you can help.As far as I know Eclipse can also be Unzipped to any folder, and
theres a file called eclipse.exe , one would simply double click on that to invoke eclipse. I don't think you would have to re-install Eclipse.
You could create a new project, and set
C:\dev\projects\Conversion\ as your Eclipse Workspace .
But lets put Eclipse on hold for now, we can still configure this whole project manually without Eclipse, which will help you understand what's going on under the hood. Also, in the beginning it's simpler to configure independent of the IDE.
So I recommend that you save your work, uninstall
Tomcat 6.0.x and re-install it on a path thatdoesn't
have any spaces in it.
For example:
C:\dev\tomcat\ So I've uninstalled tomcat and re-installed in
c:\dev\tomcat as recommended...Good, I assume that immediately under C:\dev\tomcat\ folder you see folders like bin, conf, webapps etc
Assuming that Tomcat was Unzipped to the above
folder. and there isn't another main folder underthe
above folder, set you system envrionment variable
CATALINA_HOME to the above folder.How do I do this?On MS Windows, click Start ---> Settings ----> Control Panel
Look for System , --> Doubl Click on System -----> Click on the Advanced tab ----> then under the "System Variables" panel ------> Click on New button -------->
in the Variable Name: type CATALINA_HOME
in the Variable Value: type C:\dev\tomcat
Then click Ok , that will set CATALINA_HOME to C:\dev\tomcat
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a RUNNING.txt file under Tomcat's folderthat
explains configuring it. Tomcat expects JAVA_HOMEto
be set to your JDK's root folder . Again if JDK is
installed on a path that has spaces then Irecommend
installing it on a path with no spaces forexample:
C:\dev\jdk\
Similarly , follow the above steps to set JAVA_HOME to C:\dev\jdk
Also, under System Variables you may see a variable called Path
If it doesn't exist , then create a new one, if it already exists then add the following to the Path variable. (notice how the semi colon is used as a separater)
;%JAVA_HOME%/bin;%CATALINA_HOME%/bin;
By setting the above you will be able to call
java , javac and Tomcat's startup.bat and shutdown.bat from anywhere on the DOS Command line.
>>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I've moved the jdk to the director as recommended,
but not sure hot to set the JAVA_HOME.See above...
I haven't even gotten through the rest of your post
yet, as I need to work on getting Eclipse set up
again too Leave Eclipse for later ---- it will just complicate things for now.
Once you have the project runnun under Tomcat we can figure out Eclipse.
and I figure I might as well set up my
"new" project using Virtual Hosts from the beginningLeave Virtual Host for later ------ it is easy to understand , I will explain it later , once you have the above basic set up running.
and do this right... This is quite the learning
experience ;)First , second and third time it is... but if you do this often, it will get much easier. -
Client-cert auth impl in web.xml does not work in Oracle Application Server
Hi,
I am new to implementing security features on the web applications.. I have developed a new web service using jdev1012 and deployed in OAS 10.1.2. Its working fine according to the business requirements, but I am in need of implementing client-cert authentication to enable the web service available to only those who have client certificate.
My server details are:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)
Server certificate is in place and SSL mode have been already enabled.. able to access my web service through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS as well able to see the WSDL file through https://<mydomain.com>/myws/TreqWS?WSDL.
I tried to include the following in my web.xml file as part of implementing CLIENT-CERT authentication.
<security-constraint>
<display-name>SecurityConstraint</display-name>
<web-resource-collection>
<web-resource-name>WSCollection</web-resource-name>
<url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
</web-resource-collection>
<user-data-constraint>
<transport-guarantee>CONFIDENTIAL</transport-guarantee>
</user-data-constraint>
</security-constraint>
<login-config>
<auth-method>CLIENT-CERT</auth-method>
<realm-name>WSCollection</realm-name> <!-- am not sure about this realm-name and its purpose -->
</login-config>
It is not woking as expected, though I have restarted my oc4j container after including this content to the web.xml file. i.e, I am able to invoke the web service though my sample java client program, though I donot have client certificate/keystore.
I believe I am missing something..Can anyone help me in this regard to implement CLIENT-CERT authentication successfully?
Thanks,
MsI am having the same problem with doc and xsl. I have added this
<mime-mapping>
<extension>xls</extension>
<mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>
<mime-mapping>
<extension>doc</extension>
<mime-type>application/msword</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>
to my web.xml. I even restarted the server. I still see doc and xsl in binary.
Is there some other setting that needs to take place?
I am using WL6.1 with fixpack 1.
I can see the doc and excel files in the browser if I don't go through the weblogic
server. That just confirms it's not my browser.

exception-type in web.xml does not appear to work
WLS 60 SP1 (#101616)
<exception-type> in web.xml does not appear to work. WLS shows standard
"Internal error 500" page instead of a custom error page. The custom error
page is shown if <error-code> is used instead of <exception-type>.
Any ideas? Thanks
Can you show me some of your code? This works for me.
Also, you say that you are working with 6.0sp3. Are you sure? sp3 hasn't been
released yet, except in a very limited beta. (I believe only internally, but I
could be wrong about that.)

Hi all,
I have created a very simple servlet and an index.html file with a link
to it, then packaged it into a WAR file with the appropriate web.xml and
ias-web.xml files. I then created an application.xml file referencing
only this servlet and adding a context root. After deployment via
"iasdeploy deployapp simple.ear" and cycling the web server, I can reach
the welcome file (index.html) correctly
-"http://localhost/NASApp/simple". When I attempt to follow the link to
the servlet ("simple servlet") the URL ends
up as "http://localhost/NASApp/SimpleServlet" whereas it should be
http://localhost/NASApp/simple/SimpleServlet If I type that url in, the
servlet executes fine.
I've deployed this into Tomcat and get the behavior I expect. It appears
that the element in the application.xml file is ignored by
iAS.
I'm using iAS SP3 on Win2k (same problem on NT).
This is such a basic behavior that I can't believe this is an existing
bug. I must be doing something wrong...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

How to set two different welcome-file to different servlets in web.xml
Hi friends,
Can some one help with web.xml file
I have to different servlets in applications.
I want to set two different welcome files for my two different
servlets in web.xml
Please, can some one give me sample code to achieve this.
Here web.xml code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC
"-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN"
"http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">
<web-app>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>reports</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.caremark.ivr.servlet.IvrReportsServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>reports</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/reports</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<session-config>
<session-timeout>30</session-timeout>
</session-config>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>reportsindex.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
<servlet>
<servlet-name>calldetails</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.caremark.ivr.servlet.IvrCallDetailsServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>calldetails</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/calldetails</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>calldetailsindex.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
</web-app>
I need this fix immediately. Your help will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.First of all, my understanding is that you need to have a Servlet 2.4 complaint server to do this...Given that, you're supposed to be able to simply specify the Name of the servlet as the welcome-file to get it to work. For example:
Your servlet section:
<servlet>
<servlet-name>Controller</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>com.company.ControllerServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>Now you would add the following to your welcome file list:
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>Controller</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>Note that you use the servlet-name value from the servlet definition, NOT the url-mapping from the servlet-mapping section.
Please note that I cannot verify this as I am running a 2.3 server at home. When I get to work Friday I can test on a 2.4 machine. However this shouldn't take you more than a minute to test.
Note that I did try this on the 2.3 compliant server and it did NOT work (as I expected)...

MUST I include every servlet in web.xml??
I am learning servlet and trying to write some codes by myself.
When I want to invoke servlet by form, tomcat always shows that the requested resource is not available.
I've tried some different paths for the value of ACTION, but none of them work.
Hence, I'm wondering whether I can invoke a servlet in form without explicitly write it in web.xml??
Could anyone generously give me an answer?It may be possible to configure your web server so it executes servlets with URLs like http://the.ser.ver/servlet/com.yourcompany.yourpackage.TheServlet. URLs like that are ugly and can lead to security problems so I definitely recommend against them.
You could write a front controller servlet. Then you'll need to configure the servlets in YourFrontControllerServletConfig.xml instead of web.xml so I'm not sure if that buys you much.
I'd just configure servlets in web.xml. That's what it is there for.
When you write a servlet you gather requirement specs for your servlet, do architecture and technical design, graphic layout design, servlet programming, back end code programming, unit testing, jar deployment, system (& performance, security, usability, etc) testing. After all that, the task of copy&pasting ten lines in web.xml shouldn't be a terribly large task. Unless you have lost nine of your fingers in a horrible chain saw accident or something.
(Apologies to anyone out there who has lost nine of his fingers in a terrible chain saw accident.) -
WSUS not working completely, no MMC connect, all web services are not working
Hello all,
I have a problem not sure what causing it or what is the source of it as I am not into WSUS that much...
THe status is as follows:
I have 1 server 2008 sp2 RTM x64, I had WSUS 3.0 SP2 on it since a while, it was working fine until a week ago, when I started receiving the below messages in the event viewer
I have spent too much time trying to trace or troubleshoot this issue, but all I got was to check the registry and check permissions on the temp folder and other folders, I have done complete removal with the database for the old WSUS and reinstalled it
again but I got the same problem
Nothing strange and no problems happened on the server perior to this issue, it just happened...
Any help will be appreciated
Regards

Saleh RamadanSo, in reality, this issue has nothing at all to do with "it was working; now it is not", because you've destroyed all of the evidence that would exist in a "was working; now is not" scenario. What we really have here is a NEW installation that has failed.
So, from the perspective of a NEW installation that is not working...
Are there any other roles, features, services, or applications installed on this server?
Did you install the Web Server Role exactly as described in the documentation?
Did you install the WSUS Role exactly as described in the documentation?
Were there any other roles, features, services, or applications installed onto this server
after your original (working) installation of WSUS?

Oh, well, I have red and followed the documentation exactly step-by-step on the technet library, and I can guarantee you nothing went wrong because this is not my first installation for it
When I told you about the old damaged installation and the new installation which is also failed and showed me the same symptoms as the old one, I was sure that nothing wrong with the WSUS itself, but rather it is something wrong with the environment
Answering to your above questions, the answer for all is that: that server is only used for WSUS, nothing more
Anyway, I have managed to restore the service thanks to your previous reply where you point to the CONFIG folder inside the NET framework folder, I checked the files in there, some were changed to the date I think has stopped the service, so I repaired the
NET framework 2, and restarted
It is working fine now and syncing with the update server

Header links in the web template is not working
Hi all,
I have a created webtemplete in that, header links in the web template is not working. But individually header links. I am not why they are not working in webtemplete.
guys please help for above situation.
Thanks,
JamesHi Bob,
There are many XML schema files for the data connection, I recommend to check if the references to the XML files have been changed to the new schema files in the manifest file.
For example, if we create a data connection called GetUserProfileByName, then there will be one XML file and three XML schema files for the data connection.
Please make sure that all the references are updated in the manifest file.
Thanks,
Victoria

License CS6 Design & Web Premium does not work anymore
I have a LEGAL version of CS6 Design & Web primium. I have installed it about a year ago and registered bij Adobe. If I look on the site, my CS6 and licensenumber is available. Still it does not work. Eveytime it says my trail version comes to an end and I have to buy it. But I already bought it.
I tried to reinstall, but that does not work either. How can I get it to work again???Thank you.
I live in the Netherlands. I wanted to make a call back request, but that
is not possible. I also can not start a chat session.
I checked the serial number with the number at my Adobe account and it is
correct. How can I get in contact??

Hi :)
I have WSUS on Windows Server 2012 std. with Internal Database. Today I've installed 7 updates from patch tuesday and after restart I've got
error 12002 The Reporting Web Service is not working
I can see now that updatet clients can not report their status anymore :(
What's up ? Any suggestion ?
Best regards
NenadHi,
I would start by verifying that the /ReportingWebService resource is properly configured in IIS.
Correct configurations can be found in the WSUS Technical Reference Guide: IIS
Settings for WSUS 3.0 SP2 Web Services.
Also,Under ReportingWebService
Made sure all were set to disabled except for Anonymous Authentication
Anonymous Authentication Enabled
ASP .NET Impersonation Disabled
Basic Authentication Disabled
Forms Authentication Disabled
Windows Authentication Disabled

Clarence
