Registering a new iMac

My sister and family has had their new iMac for over a month and still haven't received an email from Apple to confirm it being registered. I went through the website, entered the serial number etc. and verified that the email is correct. Today I went through to register it again, it didn't even say I'd already registered that serial number so I can assume it's not working. Is there no place to see what one has registered with Apple? Why is the email not coming to verify it? It's not in the Junk Mail either.

If you call AppleCare Technical Support they will be able to tell you if the computer is registered or not, sometimes the website glitches and doesn't display certain information.

  • Why can't I register my new iMac?

It is amazing that everything on a new mac is too easy, you only plug in the imac, then turn it on, and the if you have an older mac transfer all your files.
What is more amazing is that after transferring your files using file sharing you view a registration page that in my case I can't continue even if I fill everything. Reading a post here I see that you need to type CMD+Q
Why Apple does not place a skip option in the registration to avoid this issue, not everyone can access the internet and search for a solution to that problem.
I think that in my case the issue was because my IMAC was not connected to the internet and some settings from my old computer causes this issue.

    Welcome to the Communities.
The serial number is registered when you purchase it.   Then you go to the support profile via the link below.

  • Registration of new iMac

During set up I got the message that it was unable to process registration now (the router had got confused and turned itself off I discovered subsequently) and directed me to the registration file in my home folder. However, I'd already transferred all my information from a Time Machine backup and now neither I nor Spotlight can find a Registration File in my Home Folder. Can I register my new iMac? Where do I go on the Apple site?

you don't have to register at all. It's an optional step that can be skipped. you don't have to do anything.

I need to register my new imac but I am having difficuty doing so

As I recall, there are no letter O's in the serial number; all which appear to be such are the number 0. Be careful to not confuse X and K. And all letters are capitals.

    What does it say?
Have you copied everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one?

I bought Lightroom 3 or 4, can't remember which, as an online download. I then upgraded to 5 with a CD. I registered the upgrade on my Adobe account and that's where the serial number is. I just bought a new iMac and am trying to install Lightroom. The system is asking for my original serial number which I don't have. The point is. If I have the upgrade registered with my Adobe account, shouldn't that be proof that an earlier version was on my computer??? I'm really stuck. Need some advice! Thanks

    Hi John,
Thanks for your response, but if you read my first mail, it's the original serial number that I don't have. I bought the original LR as download and have misplaced the serial number. Is there any way to find it???

I have installed cs5 via download onto my iMac but it is not accepting the serial number. Can anybody help. Does anybody else think that Adobe will loose a lot of customers by not providing any chat or call support for cs5 users??

What do you mean by 'registered it on iTunes' ? You've authorised your account on your Mac's iTunes via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option ? And you've copied your library onto the Mac ?

  • Is their a way to use the T-Mobile Blackberry with the new iMac w/Intel?

    Hello Everyone,
I have the T-Mobile Blackberry and am trying to get it to sync to the new iMac with Intel, 10.4.6 OS. It never shows up on my computer when I plug it in. I have tried it in Bluetooth mode as well as serial and USB and nothing.
I have also downloaded pocketmac. Pocketmac with GoBetween to sync with Entourage and nothing works.
I guess my main questions are, is there something I am missing, a program or feature that needs to be installed to get the T-mobile Blackberry to work? Or, should I switch to the Treo?
Any help would be truly appreciated as I have been working on this for weeks, searching websites, contacting Pocketmac support and absolutely no one has a solution.
    Thanks!
iMac with Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It all depends upon your Treo. Generally speaking, all Palm devices are supported 'out of the box' but there are difficulties to overcome with early Palm organizers, Handspring devices and serial [not USB] or infrared Palm handelds.
The Treo 600 [USB only] and Treo 650 [Bluetooth or USB] are supported by iSync, and—like all Palm OS 4 or 5 devices—to a much more effective extent by the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space. See this link for more information:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
A Treo 700w is a Windows Mobile 5 device, and neither Information Appliance Associates, not Mark/Space, have delivered release packages supporting Windows Mobile 5 smartphones and Pocket PC devices. Mark/Space, however, is shipping an early alpha release of the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile with support for the Treo 700w, but only to registered users of the existing release for earlier devices. More information, generally, about that product is available here:
    http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_windowsmobile.php
And, you can read about the early 2.5a8 [alpha] version here:
    http://www.markspace.com/wm5.html
Incidentally, as a T-Mobile subscriber, you can use virtually any unlocked GSM handheld or smartphone on their network, giving you lots more choices than other wireless subscribers have. You can synchronize a SONY Ericsson P910a [Symbian OS] or similar smartphone with iSync, a Sidekick or Sidekick II [Danger OS] hiptop device using the Missing Sync for hiptop, or the Palm or Windows Mobile handsets they or others offer using iSync or the Missing Sync for Palm OS in the case of the Palm OS units, or the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile or PocketMac in the case of Windows Mobile and Pocket PC devices.

  • Syncing to iTunes library on new iMac

Having just bought a new iMac I connected up my iPod which was immediately recognised by ITunes which opened. Unfortunately it says that it can only transfer the purchased items as the iPod is linked to another Library - presumably the one on my old PC. How do I reconcile this and avoid having all my songs erased during a 'sync'?

Thank you for your response! Here is how I had my system set up. I found a link to this in the chain from Zevoneer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
After re-reading my initial post, I realize I was probably not clear enough about what I wanted to do with the music files on my external drive. This is where I have been operating my iTunes from, so everything is there. The only thing that isn't there as a result of my failed backup software is the backup of HD\Users\Me\Music\iTunes folder with the all important iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml files. In other words, I've not only operated my iTunes from my external drive, but was (key word there) performing full system backups to this drive as well. Since the back up (what I need for iTunes Library files) is not current, I think all I can do here is put the pieces back together some other way. I will loose things like artwork and playlists, but my content should all be there, correct? I see it when I browse the external drive folders. My content consists of music and movies ripped from CD/DVD from my own collection, music, movies, and TV shows purchased from the iTunes store, and music purchased from other music stores as well as music I created myself in Garage Band and mp3's from other devices. Here are my more specific questions:
    1. To put my content from my external drive into iTunes, do I just copy everything from the external into the internal iTunes music folder?
    2. Is there something I need to do from here to rebuild my two Library files?
Then I assume I would need to repeat the steps in the previously mentioned KB article to get my "mechanical" set up back where I have my music files on my external drive only.
    3. What, if anything will I need to do at the iTunes store in terms of registering/de-registering devices/computers? Since this is the same computer, my initial thought is nothing. I have a feeling though that even though it is the same exact hardware except for the new HDD, with a re-installed operating system, iTunes Store might think this is a new machine? Will I have to do anything specific to accomodate songs I brought in from my own CD's vs songs I purchased from the iTunes store? Will my iPod be OK as far as being registered on my account and later syncs with my rebuilt iTunes? I'll probably avoid syncing it as long as I can since I will loose my playlists once I do.
I read your message at the bottom about importing the contents of the media folder from the external drive, but don't see where to do that in iTunes. Do you mean to just copy the files from the external to the music folder on the internal? I'm running iTunes 10.1.1 (4) on Snow Leopard 10.6.5 if that helps. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to respond. I've already learned quite a bit more than I had before! Thanks!

  • I've Just migrated my mac to a new iMac and CS5 is dead

I've Just migrated my mac to a new iMac and CS5 is dead, I can't uninstall it or do anything with it. When I try to load an application it just crashes (I'm guessing because it needs registering on my new machine) and I can't uninstall it.
I've been using CS5 for the past three years, and contemplating getting Creative Cloud. The problem is, it looks like I didn't every properly register CS5 with my Adobe ID, the software package was a download from a thrid party seller, and the email account the sent all the registration info to is no longer in use. . .
When I try to use Application Manager to uninstall it just tells me I need application manager and gives me a link to Adobe's website to download it. I download it, install it, try again, same result, tells me I need to download it. . .
    Frustrating.
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm currently completely stuck!

    Reinstall properly.

  • New iMac itunes not recognizing library on external drive

I'm trying to move my itunes media from my older powermac to my new imac. I kept my library on an external drive, so I thought it would be simple to just move that drive over to the new imac and create a path in the media folder location in itunes preferences to the library. I've done so, but the library is not registering in the new itunes. Obviously I'm doing something wrong here, and I haven't found anything that describes my exact scenario. All I'm doing is keeping the external drive on which the library and contents are stored and moving it from the old computer to the new.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Peter

Thanks Jim. I have tried what you have suggested, but it hasn't worked. iTunes isn't populating (for lack of a better word at the moment) with my music. I'm able to select the library and seemingly iTunes accepts the library, but I'm not able to access the media. I tried reconnecting the drive back to the old computer to make sure iTunes worked on it, and it worked fine. I'm stumped.

  • How do i install Logic Studio on my new iMac without CDD?!

    Hi!
I'm getting my new iMac 21,5" delivered tomorrow, and i want to install Logic Pro the first thing i do. But, the thing is i bought the Logic Studio a few years ago, and i got the software on CD! Now, how do i do to install it on my iMac? Is there a way to register my product on App Store and then download it? I'm not so hyped on buying the software again on App Store or buying an external disk drive ONLY to install Logic! :/ Please help me out!
    Thank You,
    Tomas

You have to buy the USB SuperDrive, but if you have an older Mac, you can use Remote Disc to install it
