Registering guest os toward host licensing quota

Hello All,
As I understand from my research, server 2012 standard comes with 2 free virtual operating system environments which are down gradable. If I were to create a new VM with server 2012 standard running on it how do I register the guest VM towards that 2 vose
quota? Is there a place in the host OS that will generate a key?

There is no such registration of the license. Application of guest privileges is "on your honor". Use the OS key provided with your purchase.
Also, I don't know that I'd call them "free". You did pay for them.

How do RDP clients obtain license from host/license server?

Hi,
I have a W2k8 R2 server setup with Remote Desktop Session Host and Licensing. This will be used to allow more than 2 RDP connections to a server.
Can someone explain the process from the client side, getting the license from the host/licensing server, then connect to the server they need to manage?
What configuration is needed on the client/server side to know it needs check for a RDP license?

How the connection works,
The clients will first connect to Remote Desktop Session Host. The Session host will forward it to the License Server.
You have the option to tell the Remote Desktop Session host to say which is the license server it should contact. Check this link below to see how to do this.

All the CAL licenses will be installed and configured in the License Server.
There are two types of CAL licenses - Per User and Per Device CALs. Based on the type of license available in the License server, the license will be obtained and the user's connection is forwarded to the Remote Desktop Session host server.
If no license is available in the Licensing server, it will fail there.

Cisco ASA 5505 host license count?

I have a ASA 5505 with base 50-user license deployed for a 15 people branch office. But recently ASA started to block internal host since license reached MAX 50.
I did show local-host on ASA and then manually filtered output in spreadsheet and there are only about 20 individual internal IP addresses.
According to Cisco,
In routed mode, hosts on the inside (Business and Home VLANs) count towards the limit when they communicate with the outside (Internet VLAN), including when the inside initiates a connection to the outside as well as when the outside initiates a connection to the inside. Note that even when the outside initiates a connection to the inside, outside hosts are not counted towards the limit; only the inside hosts count. Hosts that initiate traffic between Business and Home are also not counted towards the limit. The interface associated with the default route is considered to be the outside Internet interface. If there is no default route, hosts on all interfaces are counted toward the limit. In transparent mode, the interface with the lowest number of hosts is counted towards the host limit. See the show local-host command to view host limits.
So individual internal IP address will be counted against license on ASA, right? Then where are the other 30 hosts? The ASA is running 8.2(5).

The 8.0 code only means that is the code that it has been reported in...doesn't necessarily mean that it is not found in the 8.2 code...but since you are not doing hairpinning this bug doesn't relate to your issue anyway.
Do your users connect their mobile phones and Tabs to the network as well? How many printers, servers, and any other none user devices connect to the network?

Internet access to the guest system for Host-Only configuration

Hello,
I have a windows host linux guest vBox environment and it's configured as host-only. How can I enable internet access within the guest? I am towards the end of a RAC installation and upon running buildcluster.sh, it says the recommended RPM "oracle-validated" not installed or has unsatisfied dependencies. It seems i have quite a few RPMs need to download and thus prefer to be able to connect to the internet within the guest so i can do it from the Oracle yum server.

Hi,
this won't work so easiliy with a "Host Only" network.
You either need a bridges network or a NAT network.
Easiest thing probably will be to add another interface (network) to the VM and assigned it as bridged.
Then download/update oracle-validated and remove the interface again.
This way, you don't need to change anything on the server.

SIP/JSR180: Register Response lost as host throw ICMP message: Port Unreach

I am trying to create a VoIP application using JSR 180 for mobile device using Java Wireless toolkit.
My VoIP application is trying to register an IMS core network.
I am using J2ME emulator to develop/test the application.
My application is correctly sending REGISTER request to IMS core and wireshark shows that IMS core sends correct 200 OK for REGISTER request.
My application is sending the REGISTER request from a dynamically selected port (eg. 3456) to 5060 to my proxy and the response 200 OK is coming to the same port, but my host system throws ICMP message quoting "Port Unreachable".
I guess, the UDP port (3654), is closed as soon as the REGISTER request is sent to network from J2ME enviroment.
Is there any need for some special setting/configuration so that the port is not closed.

Sorry I have the lines:
sipConnection.initRequest("REGISTER", sipNotifier);
and not
sipConnection.initRequest("REGISTER", null);
in my code....the code in the previous post has that error but also with sipNotifier it doesn't work due the same problem.

Hyper-V Guest Cannot Find Host Domain Controller 2012 R2

Poweredge T320 server as a Domain Controller, file server and an EXCHANGE 2010 server. There are no other servers at the site.
DHCP is from the firewall.   The DC and the file server will be on the host.
The 2010 EXCHANGE server will be on the guest. The Hyper-V
2012 R2 server cannot see the Domain Controller on the host 2012 R2 server.
The Active Directory is requesting to be promoted to a Domain Controller.
I have a logical or physical error in the installation.
It is asking to promote the Hyper-V guest 2012 R2 to a Domain Controller.
I believe I should have only one Domain Controller in this application.
After the Hyper-V guest can see the host domain controller I will install EXCHANGE 2010.
This is a test environment, offsite.
NIC1 – Host IP:192.168.1.130, 255.255.255.0, Gateway:192.168.1.1, DNS:127.0.0.1
NIC2- Only Hyper-V switch checked
Virtual Switch: 192.168.1.140, 255.255.255.0, Gateway: Blank, DNS: Was 127.0.0.1 didn’t work so I pointed it to the host, 192.168.1.130, but that didn’t work either.
Host adapter: IP:192.168.1.150, 255.255.255.0, 192.168.1.1, DNS Pointing to HOST:162.168.1.130
Active Directory and DNS installed on the guest.
Removed IPv6 from both NICs without any change.
IPAM is not installed on the host or the guest.
Several articles in Internet search didn’t help.

Cannot connect to EM on ODD guest from Windows host

I cannot connect to the Enterprise Manager in my guest VM from my host. From a IE v8.0 browser, the recommended link https://192.168.56.101:1158/em fails to connect.
I installed Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.0.4 on a Windows 7 laptop and imported the Oracle Developer Days (ODD) VM appliance. Within the ODD VM I started Enterprise Manager with the cmd "emctl start dbconsole". I confirmed the listener is up and running in the ODD VM.
I checked my Windows Firewall and the MS Telnet Client is allowed through on IP 192.168.56.101 on local port 1158.
Suggestions?

Apple Support could reproduce the problem, and provided the solution:
Assuming that VNC is configured in the sharing prefs (under Apple Remote Desktop), it is enough to disable ARD in the sharing prefs. Once you do this (presumably via Apple Remote Desktop) you'll obviously lose your connection.
To restart ARD again from the commandline, connect to your server with ssh and issue the following commands:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent
now you should be able to connect to your server with ARD again....
.... and all connections with VNC should work as well!!

Loss of network connectivity at random times to guests and now hosts Server 2012 R2 Hyper-v on Dell R620...Guests virtual disks reside on a NAS.

We have set up 2 Hyper-v environments (Server 2012 R2 fully updated) on Dell R620's. The guest machines are configured do that they reside on a NAS (also a Dell R620 with server 2012). We are having an issue on both the environments where the guests will
lose network connectivity. The servers ran well for about 4 weeks and recently the guests started having issues and we have even had to reboot the host due to network connectivity problems.
We have 4 virtual switches set up. 1 connected to its own NIC. 1 for management and the 3 others for guests.
The 3 for guests are not configured to allow host OS sharing.
We do not have IP addresses on the NICS for the guests. Only on the management port. (all 1 GB NICS)
We have updated the firmware and drivers for the standard Broadcom Netxtreme cards.
We do not have Jumbo frames enabled because of some issues with switching compatability.
I've seen articles recommending to turn off TCP offloading and to disable virtual machine queues. Is this best practice?
Any thoughts of where I might look to help diagnose this issue?

First please try to disable the RSS in the property of the NICs for guests .
Then run powershell " Get-NetAdapterVMQ " to check the parameter "NumberOfReceiveQueues" (NumberOfReceiveQueues – The number of queues that the NIC has available to use and assign to VMs,
the host and a default queue) .
If I understand correctly ,when you enable VMQ the number of connected VMs on that NIC should not be more than the value of "NumberOfReceiveQueues" -2 .

How do I find out how much space a user is using towards their disk quota?

Weird problem on my OS X Server (Tiger) system: a user can't copy files into their share on the volume (SMB access from a WinPC) and is getting an "out of quota" error. She thinks she doesn't have that much stuff on the server, and I've set her quota to be huge. How do I find out, on the OS X Server system, how much space it thinks that username is using towards her quota?

what's the 4Gb SMB limit? A single file is over that large? We don't have that. Or it can't see any shares that have more than 4 Gb in them total? We definitely have that!

Loadbalancing for registered program in one host.

We have a SAP ERP 6.0 system on WAS 7.00, on a Solaris 5.10/Oracle
10.2.0.4 platform. In SM59 we have created an entry of type T for a
registered server program. A WebMethods server has a listener based on
the same program ID. The connection works.
Problem is this:
The WebMethods server consists of two instances on the same host (using
different ports). We want to loadbalance over these two instances.
Only mechanism that I am aware of in SAP is using gw/reg_lb_level and
gw/reg_lb_ip for loadbalancing. That, however, only allows
loadbalancing over different ip adresses.
That does not work in our case, most probably because both instances of
WebMethods are on the same host (and ip adress).
How can we best go about loadbalancing in this configuration?

AAM failed to register Muse trial application as licensed

I used Muse in Beta and as trial app. Subcribed to Creative Cloud.
AAM installed several products correctly but failed to register Muse as licensed during install.
Opening Muse I still got the message that I had to buy a Creative Cloud license.
After uninstall of Muse, AAM still says that Muse should be installed, which it isn't.
Even clearing my Windows registry four times with two different reg cleaners did't help.
Manually using regedit I can't find any Muse keys.
How can i get Muse reinstalled???

Hello,
After some very bad advice from the Adobe Helpdesk, I decided to find out myself what causes the problem.
In Short: The trial or beta version of Muse isn't upgraded by the AAM, but the app is installed twice on your PC
In Windows: Muse is installed a second time, not as the beta/trial related to Adobe Air, but as part the Flashbuilder map (you will also find the AAM there in case you want to uninstall the AAM)..
The 'AAM version of Muse' isn't listed in <Add or remove programs> in your control panel, only the trial version is listed there.
Uninstall the trial version using <Add or remove programs>
To uninstall the 'AAM version of Muse' I recommend to use 'Revo uninstaller'.
Revo will give you an overview of your installed apps including the AAM version of Muse that is not listed in <Add or remove programs>
Let Revo uninstall this version of Muse.
After this the AAM will give you a new opportunity to install Muse.
This time without problems and even including the preferences etc. of your trial version of Muse.

when I register the product( acrobat pro xi) in Adobe licensing website,
the message shows that "Adobe does not recognize you as an authorized user of this web site."
I downloaded this acrobat pro xi from my university web site... they provided the serial number as well.
but Adobe licensing website can not recognize me as an authorized user of this web site,,, even though I logged in adobe website...

Contact your university. Volumes licenses are not the same as the normal licenses you buy, and they should be able to give you advice on how to set it up. It may be that volume licenses are not to be registered.

Self registered guests on WLAN

I'm attempting to get several slightly different types of public access web configured on a Cisco WLC 4404.
the first type is a pre-registration service, whereby the user needs to go to reception or some other designated staff, who configures a user on the WLC for them to log on with. The WLC can do this out of the box without much config and I've got this all working.
the second is the one I'm having trouble with. I want guests to be able to log on without visiting anyone first (they'll be limited to filtered web browsing only - no VPNs and whatnot). The user would need to go to a splash screen, read an AUP, enter email address, some personal info and choose a password. from that point on they can use the service at will. there'd be no real checks made on the information, i.e. that the email was a valid one.
I currently have this setup working with a nocat service running on a gateway server and need to pipe a network over to an autonomous AP whenever i need to put this out.
Can the WLC do this job on it's own? Places like hotels do a similar thing when you get on the wifi and are prompted for your card info - although I just want info for logging purposes - not billing.
any help or info about similar setups would be great.

The same web-auth screens where you set up the lobby ambassador/ guest logon configuration, can be set to a "passthrough" mode instead. One of the options in a passthrough setup is an email address entry box, but I've never found where (or even if) those emails are stored. You could consider pointing the passthrough page at an external web server and having the forms saved there.
As I recall, though, a single controller can only have one instance of web logon settings configured, so you wouldn't be able to run both systems on the same controller.
