Registering ipod Video

hey i have an ipod video (30GB) and i wanna register it. So i click on ipod and it says to click on the model but there isnt iPod Video. There is only iPod, iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and iPod mini. How do i register it if there isnt the correct model on the list?

If it's one of these, then for registration purposes it's an iPod: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/7200205/wo/KH6zb jL2lPK93m4E9kGeJ8OHs1t/1.SLID?mco=CC4D3CBB&nclm=iPod
Apple call it a Fifth Generation iPod, iPod Video is a colloquial term

  • Re-installing (and re-registering) iPod Video on New Computer

I am currently using my IBM thinkpad and I recently purchased an iPod. I want to install (and have been prompted to register) the software to start using it. However, I am going to purchase an iMac next week. Can I register and use my iPod on the IBM machine and then re-register/re-install software (or use the preinstalled software) on my new iMac when i purchase it?
Sorry if the ? is confusing. Bottom line, can you register your iPod and use it one machine and then change it to another machine? Does it require re-registration?
    Thanks.

If you are talking about the online product registration, no I don't think so, you need only to register once, that's all.
What is the more "challenging and difficult" part is that, as you know, the iPod only "recognises 1 master computer", so if you already have songs, playlists etc in your PC's iTunes and sync to the iPod; When you re-sync on your brand new mac with empty songs, your iPod will correspond to that sync, i.e. 0 songs.
If you can, copy the files, especially the iTunes data files, Library files etc and also all your songs from your PC to the new mac, then in this way, although the iPod is re-sync by a new computer, at least you have an identical playlists and songs, so your iPod will be (re)sync with the same data again.
    Cheers

  • I have an ipod mini and now a ipod video, how do I get my itunes to work wi

I just got my ipod video, and i have already a ipod mini and i want to keep it. How do I use the same itunes for both? Do i have to register both and how?

use the CD you got with your new ipod and register it etc.
then make sure you have itunes 6 with video, podcasts etc.
    (free download at apple.ca)
your ipod mini will work on here too, it just wont be able to upload any of the videos/photos
and your new ipod should work too (once you have the new software)
you can share itunes with both of these and it'll work

  • Known disk-mounting fault on iPod Video 80GB?

Is there a known disk mounting fault with the iPod Video 80GB?
I’m running iTunes Version 7.0.1.8 and have so far had two brand new 80GB iPod Video devices, purchased from a registered New Zealand reseller (TotallyMac.com).
Both iPods have successfully loaded my music library and have played perfectly, both on headphones and on my iPod hi-fi. However, when I subsequently plug the iPod into any of the USB 2 ports on my laptop, the iPod does not show up as a device in My Computer, File Explorer or in iTunes.
I’m running Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
The problem also occurs on a second PC – the iPod refuses to show as a device in My Computer, Windows File Explorer or in iTunes. However, it does show up in Device Manager, and the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon shows on the Windows status bar when the iPod is connected. Even so, when the iPod is safely ejected, the iPod screen continues to show ‘Do Not Disconnect’, so the only way to safely eject the iPod is to reset it on the iPod.
I’ve tried restarting the computer, putting the iPod into disk mode and so on. Unfortunately, none of the advice on the Apple website for iPods that refuse to mount helps me – because I can’t get the iPod to appear as a device anywhere on my computer, I can’t rename the Drive Volume (to another letter instead of ‘E:’) or restore the iPod to factory settings.
I can’t help thinking that Apple has created a ‘Catch 22’ situation by removing the iPod Updater option in iTunes 7 – none of the previous versions of iPod Updater is compatible with iTunes 7, meaning it’s impossible for people who have a Disk Mount problem to restore their iPods. If you can’t get the iPod to show up in iTunes, how are you supposed to restore the device or solve disk mounting problems?
There appears to be no other way to restore the device if you’re using iTunes 7.
Why isn’t there a ‘restore’ option in the iPod’s own diagnostics menu, some combination of click-wheel buttons that will allow you to reformat/restore the drive?
My previous (40GB) Fourth-Generation iPod mounts perfectly on both this laptop and another PC, suggesting it is the new iPods that are the problem. Also, as I said, the new iPod fails to mount on the second PC, supporting this theory.
Both faulty iPods have been set to ‘manually update’ and I also ticked the ‘Enable Disk Use’ option and removed the checkmark from ‘Automatically open iTunes’.
It would be good to hear from someone else who has experienced similar difficulties, as I’m by no means a new iPod user and this has both me and the Apple service technicians I’ve spoken to completely stumped. Is it a known problem and, if so, will it be dealt with in future iTunes updates…?

Try forcing the iPod into disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
And then see if you can change the Volume Drive Letter:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
If nothing else works, you may want to give this a shot:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Since you did say the iPod continues to show Do Not Disconnect after ejecting it, I'm thinking maybe there's something on your computer that's interfering with the iPod.
Also, when the iPod comes up in Device Manager, does it have any kind of warning on it? You may need to uninstall the iPod's drivers, and then restart the computer with the iPod attached to reinstall it. This may not be the case, though, since the iPod is still showing Do Not Disconnect while it's plugged in.
You may also want to make sure you have the iPod connected to a USB port directly on the rear of the computer, or try a different USB cable.
Also, you might want to try restarting the iPodService

  • Switched iPod Video format from PC to Mac - "Restore" fried my iPod

I bought an iPod Video 30gb in Dec. 05. I originally formatted it to work with my Dell PC Inspiron laptop. Everthing worked great and I didn't have any problems. About two months ago I bought a Macbook and transferred all of my files, including my music, from the former to the latter. I authorized my iPod on my Macbook and registered my Macbook to read all of the music I purchased on iTunes. So, I made the switch from PC to Mac without any problems and my iPod Video worked just fine without any issues. It synched my songs, etc.
Then, about 2 weeks ago I noticed that iTunes would not allow me to update the iPod software because the "Settings" screen that appears when I plugged my iPod into my Macbook said that it cannot update iPods that use the PC format. So, I read the instructions for switching the format of my iPod from PC to Mac and apparently all I had to do was select the "Restore" function in the Settings screen. I did so and it appeared that everything was OK. It erased my iPod, reformatted the software, and then downloaded all of my music.
The next day though the problems started. My iPod started to freeze up; none of the buttons worked and I had to reboot it to shut off the screen. Strangely though, it wouldn't rebott all the way because it didn't boot back up. I waited a few hours and pressed the middle and menu button to try to reboot it again and it worked, but the battery was completely drawn down. I recharged the battery, but the same thing happened again after listening to music for 10 minutes. The iPod froze up, wouldn't respond, wouldn't reboot, rebooted later with an almost dead battery, recharged it and started all over. I thought that perhaps doing the "Restore" function again would fix the problem. So, I "Restored" my iPod two more separate times. But, nothing has worked.
I took my iPod to the SoHo, NYC Apple store this morning and they had no idea what to do. To my extreme frustration, they kept on trying to tell me that there was something wrong with my battery. But, I repeatedly told them that everything was fine until I did the "Restore" function to change the format from PC to Mac. Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there anything that I can do?
    Thank you for your help.

    see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
seems it could be some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, if the above does not solve, then do a Restore with a PC, and see what happen

  • Keeps asking to register ipods

when plugging both of my mother's shuffle and ipod video into her PC, a window asking to register and create an appleID opens. The options are create, register later, and never register. It won't go away. The only option that works is the create and you have to go thru the process. The final parts of it afer creating your ID is to add a credit card. She doesn't want to do this.
How do I get it to accept Never Register. She doesn't plan on buying any itunes music and itunes won' display her ipod contents.
    Thanks,
    Jerold

Jerold -- I am having the exact same problem as you are w/the register screens. I cannot fathom why everyone keeps saying to change the screen resolution. It isn't that things cannot be seen but rather that the whole registration page/pages are caught in some kind of a loop. Changing screen size does diddly squat. I realize that changing screen resolution may fix some problems, but not this one.
I ended up emailing the Apple Store because it was the only email address I had encountered after many times posing this question and receiving no answer. Here is the reply the person from the itunes store sent me. I kind of figured they would say to update but . . . since my daughter updated her new windows/Vista laptop she is unable to sync. She hasn't updated to 7.7.1 yet because she can at least manage her ipod manually. I'm contimplating upgrading to an older version - maybe 7.6.2 - but can't seem to find any answers as to whether this is a relatively 'bug-free' version. Apple -- oy! Hey, at least I got an answer and I didn't even have to pay for it!

  • Ipod Video, 1.2.3 Sync problem

    Hi all,
I have a 60Go Ipod video. I use it like external drive on windows and mac. So it uses PC firmware. I update it with 1.2.3 firmware and now when I sync it with my mac (Leopard 10.5.2) a lot of tracks are not playable (just pass it), Playlist are empty and no podcast are visible from the Ipod. But from itunes, I can play music directly on the Ipod, playlist are visible, all seems to be correct...
So I think my files are not corrupted.
Those music comes from ITSM and my ITunes is registered with my Apple Id.
If I install mac firmware, all is OK. But I can't use my ipod on windows.
If I sync from windows, all seems ok too. But I would like to sync from my MacBook pro.
I don't know what to do. Maybe downgrade it but I would like to find another solution.
    Can some body help me?

I tried to sync with a PC and it works fine. No problem with it.
But I switch for 3month and I don't want to keep windows XP just to sync my ipod...
I have a MacBook pro with Leopard. Itunes and Leopard are up to date.
    Can some body Help me?

Is your question on the level? Cracked screens have been often deemed abuse and outside the replacement policy. You'll never know until you make a service request and send it in.

  • I have replacement ipod video and want it to use the itunes held on my comp

Help needed please. I had an ipod video which broke. I have bought a new one, but have been told it won't carry forward my music from itunes.
How can I get the replacement i pod to hold my existing itunes?
I Pod video 30G   Windows XP

You just need to connect your new iPod. If the songs you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. Follow the onscreen instructions to register and name your iPod, when that is done you'll be asked if you want it to update automatically from iTunes, choose yes if you do. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like

  • Transferring my music from an old ipod to a new ipod Video

I have just bought a new ipod video for my son who has an old ipod - how can I register his new ipod when one is already on my profile and how then do i get my music onto my new ipod from my old ipod profile
    many thanks
    paul

The way I do it if all of my items are on my iPod and not in my library is make sure that the old iPod is connected via USB or Firewire. Go into your Windows Explorer and the iPod should be recognized as a drive letter. Click the pulldown menu "Tools", "Folder Options" and then click on the "View" tab. Under "Hidden files and folders", check "Show hidden files and folders." click OK and then click on your iPod folder. You should see a "iPod_Control" folder. Take that folder and copy and paste the entire contents somewhere to your hard drive. Make sure you make a subfolder prior to such as "iPod Backup." Once that is done, in iTunes navigate to File, Add Folder to Library. It will bring all of your music into your iTunes library and begin to re-tag all of the music (you need to be connected to the Internet). From there, you can unplug the old iPod and plug your new iPod in. Drag and drop from your library to your new iPod and Voila!

  • My iPod Videos are no longer reading on my iPOD Video!!

    Hi,
I have a 30GB iPod Video (5th Generation) and just recently all my iPod Music Videos and movies are no longer watchable and aren't showing in music videos and movies playlists on my iPod! Once I plug my iPod into iTunes on my mac, it says there are no videos, even though the video files are still on the iPod and can play via iTunes, but are being read as audio files?? I hope this makes sense. If someone could help me solve this problem, it would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks, David

I wish I could help, but I am having a similar problem. I have several movies which are Nero Recodes and they worked great on my 60GB until about 2-3 months ago. Now, they don't work at all. They will play in Itunes. I have severla smaller clips which still play and I just uploaded a movie using DVD2Pod which plays great. I have deleted them from my system and reloaded them (checking first to make sure they played on my computer--which they did) and still bupkis! Any insights?

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"

  • Movie downloaded from itunes not playing on ipod video

I bought a movie off of itunes and downloaded it to my ipod video. But the movie won't play on my ipod. It plays perfectly fine on my computer. Why isn't playing on my ipod video? Is there something i have to do first before videos are able to play on my ipod?

Is it one film or all of them? I'm having a similar problem where this one film I accidentily deleted that used to play got reloaded and now plays fine on my computer but won't sync onto my iPod. Everything's checked off and ready to go on my computer, but when I sync the film simply isn't there.

  • Downloaded the A-Team to my ipod video but can't find it

hello, I had just recently purchased the ipod video and over the weekend decided to test it out and I downloaded from apple's website the A-team now i can view it on my itunes under tv show but when i look for it on my ipod video there is no drop down menu for TV show i see videos, music, photos but no menu for TV show what can i do?
    thanks

i can view it on my itunes under tv show but when i look for it on my ipod video there is no drop down menu for TV show
I would contact ITMS and "REQUEST" they correct the matter. Whoever created the file did not properly include all of the required meta-data information which would create a valid path for file display on the iPod. Further, there seems to be a growing occurance (i.e., the lack of quality control) during the production of these files. While I might expect a small number of such files to crop up on occasion, I expect a commercial marketer to respond in a professional manner or suffer the legal ramifications of their failure to correct known product defects.
Be that as it may, you can of course, temporarily work around the problem by creating a "Playlist" to contain your TV episodes by series title. Just remember to order them properly within the playlist to maintain proper play order.
