Registering QuicktimePro in Vista 64

How does one register my QuickTime Pro key when using Vista 64?
Not like XP.???

As said...not like XP.......there is no Quicktime Icon in the control panel of vista 64.
So the question is.hot to find/get to the Quicktime control panel in Vista 64 so I can register the program?

  • Browse sequence in Windows Vista 64-bit?

This is a duplicate post.  I posted it nestled down in another browse sequence thread and didn't get any nibbles, so I am creating a new thread.  I hope no one minds.
Hi all, I'm wondering if I can get a little help from the gurus here.  I've been through the forums and internet trying to find the answer to browse sequences and glossary tabs in Windows Vista 64-bit.  I am running Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium Service Pack 2.
I need to mention that my .chm files work fine on Windows XP (multiple machines tested).  My project consists of a master .chm (thanks Peter Grainge for the step-by-step, which I followed to the letter) with 15 slave projects.
I've copied the hhactivex.dll from the Program Files\Adobe\RoboHelp\RoboHTML (426 KB) on my Windows XP machine and saved it in the following folders on my Windows Vista 64-bit machine:
    c:\windows\system32
    c:\windows\sysWOW64
I then tried using the cmd.exe command prompt (as administrator) in c:\windows\system32 to do the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hhactivex.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx
Both commands registered successfully.  When I opened the .chm, the glossary and browse sequence are still not working properly.
So, I then tried unregistered hhactivex.dll and hhctrl.ocx in the c:\windows\system32 folder using the regsvc32 and the cmd.exe (as administrator) in that same folder.
I then tried using the cmd.exe command prompt (as administrator) in c:\windows\sysWOW64 to do the following:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhactivex.dll
    regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhctrl.ocx
Both commands registered successfully.  When I opened the .chm, the glossary and browse sequence are still not working properly.
I've been pulling my hair out on this one.  I've seen posts mentioning the "Unblock" Button on the .chm's Properties - General tab - Advanced dialog, but I do not have an Unblock button anywhere in the properties for these .chms.  I also do not have the Microsoft KB 89xxxxx security updates on my Vista 64-bit computer that I can find.
I also say a post that put the path/filename in quotes when using regsvr32.  I tried registering again using the same scenarios above in system32 (regsvr32 "c:\windows\system32\hhactivex.dll") and sysWOW64 (regsvr32 "c:\windows\sysWOW64\hhactivex.dll") but still I cannot get the browse sequences/glossary to work in thses compiled .chms -- whether opening the master or the slave.
After I registered the hhactivex.dll on a Windows XP test machine, if I opened a .chm and then went into Windows Explorer and tried to delete the hhactivex.dll, I'd get a "file in use" error.  However, when I open a .chm on my Vista 64-bit machine and try to delete the hhactivex.dll in either system32 or sysWoW64, it deletes without error.  I verified this with all of the different registering methods I described in this post (registering, testing, unregistering, moving to next folder, etc.).  Being able to delete the .dll on the Vista machine tends to make me believe that the .dll isn't really registering,  Either way, it isn't being accessed when a .chm file is opened like on a Windows XP machine.
I've been around the internet trying to find out exactly how to register .dlls in Vista 64-bit, and unless I'm totally missing something I believe I am doing this correctly.  If I am doing something wrong, could someone guide me in the right direction with a complete step-by-step method that works in Vista 64-bit?
I have yet to test Vista 32-bit or any version of Windows 7, but I am hoping that once I resolve the problem in Vista 64-bit that the rest will be non-issues.  I hope anyway, as I have no means to test those platforms.
Thanks in advance for making it to the end of this long post of mine.  I appreciate any help!
    eeddings

The 32bit version of HH.exe is kept in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64". When you double click a CHM file on a 64 bit machine, it launches the 64 bit version of hh.exe kept in C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 directory.
To launch a CHM with 32 bit version hh.exe, run the following command in a 64 bit machine C:\Windows\SysWOW64\hh.exe <CHM file Path>
The other good news is that you can get the 64 bit version of HHActiveX.dll in RoboHelp 9.0. It is kept at "<RoboHelp 9.0 install folder>\Redist\x64\HHActiveX.dll"
If RoboHelp 9.0 is installed on your machine, this activeX control is already registered. Otherwise you need to register this DLL.
To register 64bit version of HHActiveX.dll,
1> Run Command prompt(cmd.exe) as administrator
    2> Type "regsvr32 <64 bit HHActiveX.dll full path>" and press Enter.
3> This should show that the registration is done successfully.
Now working with 64 bit version of HH.exe should also show Glossary and Browse Sequences.

  • PSE 7, Vista 64 bit, freezes up, will not save as

New to PSE 7. Just purchased and really really disappointed with the quality so far. I am trying to resize and crop a photo and then save as into another file to send via email.
I can open PSE 7 and open the photo. I can resize the photo and crop it, but when it comes to saving, saving as it either doesnt not generate the new saved as file or the whole program locks up.
PSE7 has been updated, and registered.
Windows Vista 64 is up to date.
I have not had any other issues with ANY other programs from deisgn software like Autocad and down. Adobe PSE seems to be the only problem here.
I have not reistalled PSE but may and see if that fixes anthing (doubt it)
Was purchased with PRE 7 as package.
    Thanks for any help

Installing with Anti-virus going can lead to all sorts of issues...
Since you are using Vista, I'd suggest turning off UAC (User Account Control) also during installation.
Make sure you are running Elements in an Admin account and that you have the Elements set up to "Run as Administrator." (Just in case: Right click the Elements launch icon and select "Run as Administrator" from the menu. This setting is sticky so you only need to do it once.)
If that doesn't cure it, have a look through this Adobe tech troubleshooting doc:

  • Why were no system/install disks shipped with system?

I received a brand new Lenovo system with Windows Home Basic install from telus, and the was only an install disk for the monitor. Why was the registered copy of Vista not shipped with the system? If the HD was damaged in the shipping and I had to replace it, how would I install the operation system?
    System details
Machine type/model: 9686-A12 Serial number: Lxxxxxx   Operating system: Windows 6.0 Home Operating system version: 6.00
Is there a way (Other than recovery disks) that I can get this? I went to make recovery disk and it asked for over 32 CD's. This is not right. This is plain silly as I wanted to remove all the shareware software that I did not want or will never use.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Help I tried upgrading to itunes8 and now my quicktime player has dissapear

Hi can anyone help, i clicked the option to upgrade to the latest version, it didn't work correctly, the "help" option told me to uninstall and reinstall quicktime, i uninstalled and now it wont let me re-install! I just want my library back. my email address is [email protected] if anyone can help me. Everytime i've tried to reinstall quicktime it goes through the motions and then comes up with an error message saying quicktime is needed please re-install itunes

After install of iTunes version 8, my (registered) QuicktimePro v7 exhibits a new behavior, that it no longer properly plays some DRM protected content purchased from the Apple Store in the absence of iTunes (necessary for a time since v8 or its servers have some unresolved issues) --- maybe this is a warning of new takeovers & other "trickle down" effects to come.
Anyway, if v8 is causing an issue in Quicktime, also, as well as Windows, maybe iTunes V7 is the way to go for now?

  • 945pl NEO Mobo Smoked and Sparked.. Help?

    Hi everyone,
Please bear with me as I"m not super technical and also a bit tired/stressed as well as new here.
Some months ago I decided to go to a dual cpu so I upgraded to a dual using the same board as before. It started up, everything was fine until I'd turn it off. Sometimes it'd start up and sometimes not so I'd just leave it running.
It was as if there was a short?  Anyway I decided to see if it was the psu so I took it to best buy (LOL OH BOY) the woman there told me I was wrong in calling the cpu the cpu because the case was the cpu, the whole thing. (haha) I asked to have my psu tested (unfortunately it was her who tested it). Claimed it was bad, recommended a new one (DYNEX) (Specs below). I got it home, hooked it all up and it smoked and smelled bad. I turned it off and didn't touch it for months since it scared me, alot of money involved. No warranties existed for the others that I'm aware of.
I tried to figure it out today and took it all apart and reconnected everything thinking maybe I just had it hooked up somehow wrong and it smoked and sparked again! It's the silver grill top left of this board that did it.. resistor? I have no idea what it is. Looks like something you'd see on the back of a fridge, silver metal with ridges sticking up sorta like a grill. There are 3 black box looking things next to the cpu, they look a bit dull but no marks that I can see on the board (though I bet it's fried by now, gotta be!)
    The bios has been cleared.
Previous psu (claimed bad by best buy "computer specialist") Athena 450w (trying to remember what you guys needed of the label) model no. PS-450w.
    3.3v=28a  5v=42a 12v=20a (and 27a?)
    max power 430w  115/230vac
New PSU: (made board smoke and spark) DYNEX ATX 500w model no. DX-PS500w(recommended by that assistant) 3.3v =35a, 5v =40a, 12v1=16a, 12v2=18a (voltage 115/230v)
    My pc's specs:
Mainboard: MSI 945PL NEO version 1.0
    CPU:Intel Pentium D Processor 915 2.80GHz 800MHz FSB, 2x2 MB L2 Cache
    HDD:Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 Gigs
Video card: NVidia model P260 (which one? I can't see it on the card and can't remember)
    NEC ND 2500A DVD r/rw & cd-r/rw
Sceptre monitor x9 version. Flatscreen. (doubt this matters)
    ESM/DDR1g667 RAM  (1 gig ddr/2  667.5300   16c/64x8/240pin
I'm already highly embarrassed about this.. but I'm hoping someone has had some ideas concerning things like this..  How do I see if anything got fried from the smoking/spark? I've read about some seeing if their chips were fried. Nothing is black or gray that I can see.  The lights on the front would sorta flicker when I hit the power button. I dare not now though.
    Any ideas anyone? Please...
Thank you for your time.. and please feel free to let me know if I've missed something. This is my first time posting about my pc work. Usually I figure it out. Usually.... *sigh*
Update:Checked cpu (no signs of burning) smelled the board, definitely the area I mentioned.  When I hit power, it does occasionally spin the cpu fan but stops.. I hear a hum (electrical kind) but quickly shut it off.
I know how some feel about newbs but hey, this is the only way I'll learn.. to fix my own problems. Besides, you heard what I mentioned about the employee above. lol  Some know less than I and they get paid to fix things (or break them).

Hi ya! I'm back and I think I'm running okay. Unfortunately the guy broke the plastic piece on my cpu's fan so I need to find another I suppose.. It's connected with 3 corners right now instead of 4.  I knew it was bent but he went and broke it all off.. :( No longer usable on that corner. I couldnt' think of any substitute either.
It's an Asus board. NOT ascus like I"d said. I believe that is a medical term and I misused it. *blush*
I went to get the board and got also a gig of ddr. This board has a nice monitor for voltage, temp and fan speed! I LIKE! (no offense to MSI).
I'm new to the OS I have too so bear with me on the specs!
I was stuck in a delimma and I think I should mention it with this.. but not sure... It's part of what my problem was.. so I suppose it's okay. My problems come in packages, no individual sizes lol.
I had windows xp x64 bit and had too much trouble finding protection for the pc.. antivirus and firewall wasn't satisfactory to me. So, I went seeking an OS, anything xp or above aside from what I had. I found no regular installs, only upgrades. Can't upgrade x64 bit version of xp to home or pro... but vista I thought.. maybe vista. Only thing I could find in stores were vista upgrades and xp upgrades. I bought the vista upgrade (also a best buy suggestion by a geek squad member) to find it won't work!
I couldn't do the advisor as it's 32 bit. So I tried to run it anyhow. It wouldn't let me clean install NOR upgrade so I decided to try manually, my options were limited and it was a weekend. I deleted my hard partitions to make just one, I cleaned it all up and did a full install.  Still couldn't register it :( but tech support walked me through it! They had me upgrade my clean install.  That worked!  Then I could register the windows vista premium! (it's nice but takes getting used to).
That's the update.   I've been through hades lol.  It was my board.. I'd fried it by leaving 4 mount screws someone had put in the case when I bought it. I wasn't sure why they were there and thought it was to stablize the mobo. *blush*
NOW I know, do NOT leave anything on the case that is metal behind the mobo.. NOTHING..  Unless the mount screws go into it, not the board up against it!! lol
I'm in working order with what vista rates as 3.2 pc rating.  *shrug*
The sims 2 reguires 3.0 rating apparently.
The 2 gig of ram really pays off.
I hope to get another MSI board later.. It'd be especially nice if MSI offers a monitor like Asus does.
    Thanks for the input everyone!!!!
The only thing that was bad was my mobo. Everything else, even after me trying to start it over and over, was fine. My cpu, my ram, my psu, hard drive, dvd burner.. Everything else was fine.. The heat sink was verified as the smoking and sparking part.  I have kept the board wondering if a shorted board can be repaired as I really liked that board.
Sorry it was so long.. I'm notorious for long departures lol..
Have a wonderful, eventful and peaceful week NovJoe!! (as well as other assistants)

    hi,
I like to know wich register cleaner or tune up software is the best to use for windows vista- windows7- and windows 8.1.
I like to know the proffesional  version of it which I can use for my clients  every where  unlimitted to clean unwanted keys  of registry and improve performance.(specialy in Dutch language).
    thanks

I second what Kate Li said.  There's no need for a registry cleaner!  Don't do it! I run Windows systems for years and they keep running as light and fast as when they're new.
What I *do* recommend is regularly reviewing the list of programs set to run in the background using a tool to show you what starts in various ways called Autoruns, which can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
This tool can be used to disable things you don't need.

  • Quicktime player has stopped working in Vista after registering Pro key

I have installed QT player as part of the itunes QT package today and it appeared to work untill I registered it with my pro key which also enabled the additional function, but when i closed and restarted I get message "Quicktime player has stopped working...etc" and it never opens. I have repaired, reinstalled QT, reinstalled QT and itunes, all to no effect. I then restored to before QT and i tunes installation then reinstalled QT and itunes and it works again !, but only until I enter pro key and exit and restart. There is also an issue with the addin in internet explorer which also does not work, but generates a string of error messages when i try to play movies. Oddly enough, if I run QT as administrator it works, and if it seems the QT browser addin works in Firefox (when run off memory stick)
I'm completly confused and frustrated; anyone any ideas please, I'm running Vista SP1 on Dell XPS420 Quad core 2.4 Gig 4MB RAM

Have looked in this a little further and the problem may not be todo with the Pro registration as having restored to a point before QT installation several times I now find that when reinstalled QT works the first time you run it but once closed it will not reopen. However if I run as administrator it runs OK, also if i turn off User Account Control it works OK; this true for the Internet Explorer addin as well as QT player and even the picture viewer. The picture viewer actually reports an error "Quicktime has failed to intialize Error # - 2095". One final observation is that the QT addin works OK without user account control switched off in Firefox 3 b5.
Something is amiss I suspect with permissions/security and i would rather not operate with User Account Control off.
Much appreciate anyones advise on this it is driving me mad

I was wondering if I was getting a blue screen of death because the drivers were made for the beta versions of Vista? I have deleted my temp files and have tried installing the 2.3.000 driver. Alls well until I have rebooted and it continues the installation process. I am then given the BSOD.
I successfully installed the drivers at one time, but oddly enough they showed in the device manager as being the best and most recent drivers for the hardware. But I still got the error message in my taskbar saying "No Audio Output Device is Installed."

  • Registering QT Pro in Vista

Does anybody know how to enter the QT Pro key into Quick Time 7? Instructions I find are for Windows XP only. joevolker

    Let's try this.
    Go "Start > Control Panel".
Make sure to select "Classic View" (That's to the left of the control panel screen.)
You should now see a list of control panels, including the QuickTime control panel. Open the QuickTime Control Panel, click the "Register" tab, and then proceed as per the instructions for XP.

i got my ipod a while back and i cant find anything saying which genereation it is so my best guess is its first.

any way of fixing it will do. i wouldnt mind a way of reformatting it without haveing to connect it coz at least my library is still there and i can just sync it all again.

Both Microsoft AND Apple (read about Apple's Snow Leopard) issue new operating systems that break old software
P6.5 would seem to be broken with Vista
I am going to build a Windows 7 computer some time next year, and I already know I have to buy a new MS Office suite 'cause the Office 97 I now use with WinXP is not compatible with Win7
You MAY be able to get P6.5 working if you use an appropriate compatibility setting in Vista... to read about that, go to this link and search
    http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
Otherwise, you will simply have to buy new software that is certified to work with Vista

  • Vista not registering all memeory

I'm running Vista Home premium on my Mac Pro with 3 gig of RAM. Vista only shows it has 2 gig available. Any suggestions on fixing this issue.

I read it somewhere that Vista reserved some memory for exclusive system use so you can't see all memory you installed. Like 3GB will show up as 2.95GB or 2.85GB. However that still means Vista recognized all 3GB of the memory you have in your computer.
Vista SP1 now does this differently: it tells you all the memory your machine has, although some of them are still reserved for exclusive system usage.
If you want to use 4GB you need Vista x64 -- it's the only way.
In your case I think one of your memory chip is down. It's highly unlikely for Vista to take over 1GB out of 3 for itself.
    Hope this helps.
