Registering with a search engine

Hi, we currently have some internet sites we built with WebDB 2.2, we are trying to register them with search engines and have found out we cant include META tags in the WebDB code to help the engines find the sites, is this problem resolved in Portal?

Am using Firefox 5.0.1, any new tabs open with a search engine for imvu and when I go to about:config there is no entry for browser.newtab.url that I can modify

I am using Firefox 5.0.1.4205 with Windows 7 Home Premium Service pack1. My new tabs in Firefox open with a search engine for imvu rather than google as I would prefer. I can't find an answer to my problem so far because when I try the recommended use of about:config and finding browser.newtab.url; it is not listed. Is this version of firefox to old to have that, or is it just missing? What can I do to get my new tabs to open with a Google search engine. This is on my 80 year old father's computer so he is not likely to upgrade browsers as I would on my home computer. Thank you for any help with this.

The new tab page (about:newtab) wasn't introduced until a later version of Firefox (iirc, ''Firefox 10'') , which is why that pref can't be found.
Sounds like your father picked up some Malware.

IFS Searching with other Search Engines

Is it possible to set up iFS searching with or without interMedia) that would work with a search engine for static pages, like Infoseek?
From an "end-users" point of view, I would like to have them search for a document, some of which may be stored in the database, but others are html pages used for the site.

You would have to write a custom program which would submit searches to IFS and to your Infoseek search engine, and then combine the results for the end user.
Or you could use iFS and Intermedia to index the static HTML pages.

HT202225 I keep getting pop ups on my iMac for the first time in 6 years after one of my kids tried to watch football through crichd tv. safari now opens with smart search engine rather than google every time i try to open a new web page.

Ever since one of my kids tried to watch football on a website called crichd tv I keep getting pop us come up like Mackeeper and every time i try to open a web page it comes up with Smartsearch rather than google which is my preferred search engine in preferences. I have blocked extensions and changed homepage to google but this Smartsearch keeps overriding. Also a thing called MacKeeper keeps popping up I have followed the instructions to uninstall but the file it says to move to trash from the Applications folder but it simply isn't there or anywhere else. The file to uninstall Smartsearch is also not where they say it is in Library>frameworks>
Very frustrating from going from a perfectly working system to a now very frustrating and annoying pop ups coming uo after every time i open a new web page.
Any help or assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.

You (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.

Today when I opened a new tab instead of a blank page (I set this up), it opened with a search engine. I think it was bing. How do I keep this from happening?

I want the settings I've set to remain. Lately, the search engine also changes from google to other ones. The other day it was Amazon. It's very frustrating when this happens. I'd like to know how to "freeze" the current settings so they can't be changed unless I want them to. It's very scary to think that somehow my settings change without my knowledge.

Untrusted connection Error when using google search field in top line. Ok with other search engines

When opening www.google.dk and searching from the page, everything is ok
When using Google search engine in the address line search bar the error is present
When changing to Yahoo, bing or another search engine in the search bar, the error is not present
So, the error
"www.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.

is only present when using google search engine in the search bar
Have tried to delete the files cert8.db and key3.db with no success
Read about firewall settings, but Bullguard firewall was not covered

In your "More system details" it says your address bar search provider is Babylon, not Google. Perhaps that's the problem? Or are you using a shortcut to force the address bar search to Google?

That might not stick if you have an add-on which reverts the setting. You can disable nonessential and unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Also, you might need to edit or delete your user.js file to prevent your settings from being overridden at the next startup. This article has info on that: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].

Need some help with PHP search engine

I am working on a search engine for my site that searches for

Federated Search with Endeca Search Engine

Has anyone tried to Federate a search with an Endeca Search Engine? What I can't figure out is how do you get the Open Search URL format of a search engine. For example for Bing I guess the URL format is:
http://www.bing.com/search?q={?searchterms}&format=rss&Market=en-Us
The only reason I know that is because I found this article:

I'm wondering if there are Open Search URL standards that can be used for other search engines like Google or an Endeca search engine, etc?

I'm actually trying to figure out how to show Endeca search results inside of SharePoint 2013. That article is about trying to show SharePoint 2007 or 2010 results inside of Endeca. Does anyone know how to show Endeca results inside
of SharePoint though?
If that can't be done, by chance does anyone have updated Endeca documentation showing how to connect to SharePoint 2013?

How to interact with google search engine using java HTTP POST

I am trying to develop an desktop app that acts as an online radio tuner. I want to use google as an index site for actually searching for radio stations online. So I was wandering if it is possible for me to use java to actually interface with the google search engine servers. For example, I have built a gui that allows you to enter search text. This gui will connect to the web. I would like it to connect to the Google site and post the query to the google web servers. Then i would like to began to parse the response( html page) that i get back from the google servers. Like using google without actually typing in the text field on the google site. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do this with java. If so, what would be the best way to go about doing this. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. It was actually alot easier to do than I anticipated. All I had to do was create a URL object initialized with the google url(search text embedded in the url - http://www.google.com/search?q=" + searchText + "&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF8).

Firefox crashes when I try to search for something using the Google or MSN search engines, but not with other search engines. What causes this and how can i fix this?

I type something into the Google or MSN search engine and as soon as I hit search, Firefox crashes. Hotmail still works fine, as do every other website I have tried, including other search engines. What is the problem?

I got the same issue to and crashes in the same exact manner. Been using IE in the mean time, thought it was just me. I tried reinstalling Firefox and everything, even rolled back windows.

recently my search engine automatically changes to Yahoo from Google on iPhone 5.
And I corrected it many times manually, but again it changes to Yahoo.
I already restart it but it hasn't been fixed yet.

Making our site to search by search engines like google, yeahoo...etc

Hi All,
To make our client site search and display results by google / yahoo or any other search engine what needs to be done?
we kept "meta" tag keywords and description in all our html file and mastheaders.
What we need to do for making our site searchable by search engines ( like yahoo search and google search etc)?
Do we need to register with the search engine sites or search engine will search our site automatically by checking "meta" tags in our web pages.?
All our webpages are in KM.

I havent tried this before, but would like to add my 2 cents to this topic.
I guess you could start by submitting your site to google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
Search engines rely on a lot more than just the meta tags and other header information. I guess Google relies on something called PageRank and also track backs in order to determine the relavance of your site to the search criteria.
You may also search for document related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but not sure if that would work.

When I go to google on firefox and search for a topic, I try to open a website and another website (morsearch, clickkick, etc) will open up instead into a new search engine with the same topic . What is this?

I go to google. I type in "plants". A lot of sites will pop up in google. I click on a site (does not matter which usually). The site will then start to switch to a new url from (click kick, morsearch, etc) turning into a new search engine with the same topic and more options. I never get to the page I want unless I type the url directly into the address box. It always comes back with a search engine. So far I have found this only happens while starting in a search engine. When I get into the actual page, everything is fine. I am using McAfee for security and it hasn't caught a virus or anything yet. Help please! Thanks!
