Registry entry to force install of reader updates?

Greetings!
I've been trying to deploy Reader updates across our network via GPO but it's been a real, real hassle. Also, because some of the client PCs are connected via slow links the install time is sometimes excruciatingly long (computer configured GPO).
SMS is not an option right now, so I'm thinking that rather than use GPO to centrally manage reader updates I throw up my arms and leave it up to the users. So my question is if there is some sort of a registry setting that will force Reader updates to install once they are downloaded from the Internet. Or, alternatively, if there some sort of login script available that would check if there was a Reader update available for installation and forcibly install it. Or, alternatively, if anyone has figured out a better way to deal with the Reader GPO deployment nightmare.

Hi,
Well, as you mentioned, GPO would have been the best option to update across an enterprise network. You can refer to the guide at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf. It may give you some more tips on how to maybe change your settings to ensure a speedy install.
As far as your second question is concerned, you can use the "Automatically Install Updates" option for the Reader Updater, which will automatically install the updates as and when it downloads any. The registry entry to set the same is as below:
Prior to Reader 10.1:
[HKLM]\Software\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM\
Name: iCheck (DWORD)
Value: 3
Post Reader 10.1:
[HKLM]\Software\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM\
Name: iCheckReader (DWORD)
Value: 3
You can set the same using a login script via GPO itself. This will ensure that any and all updates as and when available will be installed as soon as its downloaded, provided no process of Reader is running at that time.
For more details on all the configurations on the updater preferences, please refer to the following document:

Hope this helps

I have tried three times ti download and install the Adobe Reader Update. It gets to 97% installed and then I get error 1303. I checked the troubleshooter but it hasn't got solutions for Windows 7 Home 64 bit O/S's. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Without the information in the error message I am unable to help you.
One question: did you run the installer as an Administrator user?

  • Repeated error messages when installing newest Reader update

Every time I try to install the latest version of Adobe Reader, I get an error message telling me that the installer doesent have permission to make changes to one of the related folders.
It also tells me that it is therefore my responsibility to change the Permissions Settings on my computer to allow changes to be made.
I don't know how it would even be possible, but I keep getting told that I don't have the authority to access that folder due to the security settings already in place on it
Adobe, your security won't allow me, or your own installer to access this thrice condemmed folder.
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIX THIS MESS WHEN I CAN'T DO ANYTHING THAT WON'T RESET THE COMPUTER?!?!?!?!

    Irony is murder.
I just restarted my laptop and suddenly I found myself able to remove the blasted folder after all.
Never bothered to learn more than I've needed in order to get by.
I guess I need to take some more computer classes so I don't end up making a fool of myself with random acusations born of frustration.

  • Is notification for Adobe Reader Update 11.0.0.04 fake?

Yesterday a notification popped up on my iMac (OSX 10.8.5) asking me if I wanted to download or install Adobe Reader Update 11.0.0.4. Was this an Adobe error with the upgrade number or could it possibly have been a fake notification and possibly malware. I pressed ESC rather than clicking yes or no on the popup. Do I have anything to worry about? I then went to the Adobe website and downloaded the 11.0.04 update. Thanks, Linda

Or download/install the update manually from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5639

  • Registry entrie for installed updates

How to check whether an update is installed from registry in Windows Server 2012 R2? My requirement is - I want to install an update based on whether another dependent update is installed e.g. to install the latest update for 2012 R2 we need the KB2919442
to be installed. I would like to know which registry entries correspond to an update and based on that install the dependent updates using a script.

    Hi ChristopherJC,
If you can run powershell script to check the installed updates on the server, please check this script, which get the software updates, however, it isn't based on the registry:
    $UpdateSession = New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.Session
    $SearchResult = $null
    $UpdateSearcher = $UpdateSession.CreateUpdateSearcher()
    $UpdateSearcher.Online = $true
    $SearchResult = $UpdateSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=1 and Type='Software'")
    $i = 1
    foreach($Update in $SearchResult.Updates)
    Write-Host "$i) $($Update.Title + " | " + $Update.SecurityBulletinIDs)"
    $i += 1

  • Failed to read/update the registry for the BO XI R2 Critical Hot Fix

"Failed to read/update the registry for the BO XI R2 Critical Hot Fix for Partner Integration Kits"
We had applied a Critical Hot Fix about one week ago and it might be causing the error. How do we uninstall the Critical Hot Fix if it is indeed causing the problem?
Additionally, we have uninstalled the Integration Kit and reinstalled it hoping it will solve the problem but it didn't.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Reader Update installs Chrome, breaks Outlook links requiring registry changes.

The newest Reader update as you probably know has a box checked by default to also install Google Chrome. Many of my users are just trying to update their Reader and miss the box, inadvertently installing software they do not want, and that we don't want on their computers. Google Chrome rewrites portions of the Windows registry pertaining to hyperlink handling, and effectively BREAKS Microsoft Outlook. Even after you un-install Chrome it leaves all of this BS behind that leaves any Outlook user unable to click hyperlinks in an email. So as a result of Adobe's little trick of sneaking in software during what is intended to be an update, coupled with Google's crappy product, I've been spending the last week un-installing Google Chrome, and making registry changes to 8-10 PC's a day. I've sent out an email telling people to make sure the box isn't checked but the damage has been done.
First of all let me tell you that it PISSES ME OFF when companies like you leave boxes checked by default for crap that you know most people do not want. YOU ARE TRICKING PEOPLE. NO I DON'T WANT TO BE CONTACTED BY ADOBE ABOUT ADOBE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES, NO I DO NOT WANT YOU TO SHARE MY INFORMATION WITH A 3RD PARTY. NO-ONE WANTS THAT, BUT YOU LEAVE THE BOX CHECKED ANYWAYS PERPETUATING THE DISTRUST THAT PEOPLE HAVE FOR TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES AND DOING THINGS ONLINE, NOT TO MENTION GENERATING TONS OF RAMPANT JUNK MAIL AND OVERALL USELESS CRAP THAT IS STREWN ABOUT THE INTERNET.
It's wrong, you're wrong, and no-one is going to read, respond or do anything about this anyways so I'll end here. For anyone else who is running into this BS, here is how you fix the garbage that Chrome leaves behind:
    1. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
    2. Right click the value for the .html key and select Modify…
    3. Change the value from “ChromeHTML” to “htmlfile” (or from FireFoxHTML to htmlfile)
Repeat this process for each of the following keys:
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xht]
    ■[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.xhtml]

We already use a WSUS server for MS products so I'll look into the Enterprise deployment tools right now...
As a network administrator, how do I deploy Flash Player across my enterprise?
In order to deploy Flash Player, you must first acquire a license to do so. Distribution licenses are free of charge and can be acquired through the online licensing application.
Cool I'll get on that right now!   ... Five minutes later... The licence form doesn't work properly and won't enable the 'Accept and Submit' button.  Oh well I tried.  I could always block the adobe site and update manually or via .msi
P.s. Have you actually tried to deploy Flash within a company?

  • Force language same as operation system when install adobe reader X

We need to install adobe reader x English version or French version depend on language of user's operation system.
I know i can change langue to force it same as operation system after installation, it can be found Edit, pererfernce, language.
Is there anyway to force the option " same as operatio system" during operation system?
    I installed adobe reader x silently using command:  msiexec /qb- /i "adberder1000_fr_FR.msi" ,
Is it possible to add abswitch /g langueID in the command line to force language same as OS language? How can I retrieve default OS langugeID?
    thanks

I have multiple problems with Windows 7 Professional x64 & the Adobe products installed on my machine (English).
I have a dual processor Intel Duo Core2 -  Dell Lattitude E6400XFR,  running Windows 7 Professional x64 Service Pack 1(English).
Adobe, & Adobe Reader are installed properly & function okay for the most part, save for the very newest & fanciest of documents. Mainly, the issue I have is that Adobe/Reader are constantly attempting to update, & are able to download a version recognized as newer than the current version installed, then will not install completely or at all. Once that occurs it will then immediately demand to be updated by this newer version. It's a crappy loop that I have become familiar with & is lame.
Either Adobe & Adobe Reader are problematic with Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 ENGLISH, or this dual processor Intel motherboard is the problem. The latter doesn't seem likely however, I have identified multiple problems with drivers & whatnot that do not function well or properly solely due to the motherboard. My Nvidia On Board GPU & the drivers & software would be the prime & most annoying example of something that hates my motherboard.
I hope this isn't "Hijacking" your post, I am having a problem that sounds similar to yours, the international/localization issue(s) notwithstanding.

  • Can't read registry entry AppPath... - My solution

Good news! For me, there was a simple solution when I got this error message. (Some background: We just upgraded Office to 2007 and RoboHelp 8 from RoboHelp 5.) Today when I tried to open RoboHelp for Word (version 8) for the first time, I received this error message:
"Can't read registry entry AppPath. RoboHelp may not be installed properly.
Re-install RoboHelp if you continu to get this message."
Actually, I didn't need to do anything major to successfully open RoboHelp for Word. The solution seemed to be simply to open RoboHelp for Word BEFORE opening Word. (Apparently, in my original attempt, I already had Word open.) So I rebooted my PC, and opened RoboHelp-for-Word first, and (Yeah!), RoboHelp for Word opened just fine.
Perhaps this will help someone else.

This forum is maintained by users of RoboHelp, not by Adobe, so your comments will not be seen by them.
You say you are dissappointed with the Adobe RoboHelp team but you don't say if you have been to Support and what they suggested.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I do know you cannot have more than one version of RoboHelp for Word installed on one PC. Maybe that is the cause.
