If that doesn't help, you can download the gear drivers for burning from the Gear site and then you can try installing them manually.

If you don't see the downloads, you may need to enable javascript.

  • Problem occured while downloading itunes 8.0 - Can't burn or import

Upon downloading itunes 8.0 for windows an error must have occured because every time I open iTunes the "itunes setup assistant" pops up with a message that reads:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of install other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I have tried repairing and removing and reinstalling itunes multiple times and the error still occurs. I also have not installed CD burning software anytime recently. The only CD burning software I have came with my computer and worked fine with the itunes prior to the download of itunes 8.0. Please help me solve this issue. Thanks.

  • Error message when trying to import a CD into iTunes

I get an error message when I try to import a CD into iTunes that says the disk cannot be found. I recently requested to uninstall Tune-up because I kept receiving annoying messages to purchase the software. It looks like Tune-up is deactivated, but now I can't import music. Any suggestions?

Without much to go on I think your drive is having problems.  It may be something minor such as dust which could possibly be removed using a drive cleaning disc (computer supply store or CD store), or it could be an irregular error in a laser, or tracking, or loose cable, or...
One way to eliminate any iTunes possibility is if it is consistently doing this with a particular CD then try an alternative ripping tool such as XLD or Max.

  • Burning error, can only burn 3 minutes of video on disk.

I have wasted 6 disks by now. The burning ends much earlier than normal, then got a message saying burning/? ( sorry can't remmber) error.
The disk still can be played but it contains only 2'50-3'00 of video. Tried other projects, same results.
I got this problem after burning a few photo CDs, does this matter?
Also from the very beginning of my experience with iDVD, I have been having a problem with audio encodeing, many times the programmes just stopped when encoding audio and I had to force quit. But next time it may go through without any trouble, I mean the same imovie project. Confused!
    Many thanks.

Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Registry settings missing for burning and importing ????

i have recently had my hard disk replaced after it crashed also updated to windows 7 i downloaded itunes and am now receiving this message "the registry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing" what do I do now. I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and still the same thing.
Its really annoying as i cant sync anything.  Thank you

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Multiplexer error--can't burn disc image from iDVD

Originally FCP. to QT. To iMovie. Added chapters--left auto-generated numerals. Imported to iDVD thru Media Browser..
Film is 53 minutes plus menu (includes 3 minute silent footage in single drop box).
console reports the error as : "7/12/10 9:22:56 AM [0x0-0x418418].com.apple.iDVD[49872] terminate called after throwing an instance of 'M2V::Exception'"
    What is an M2V::Exception?
Is the only work-around to drop out the chapters? And will that work. I have done Disk Repair and Restart.

I redid the movie without chapters. It wrote the disc image.
Now it is not writing to re-writable DVD. Here is what console said:

  • Can't burn or import cd's

I have a Dell laptop running WIN XP home.
Last evening I removed my Norton Internet Security (2005) and installed ESET's NOD32 and WINDOWS Firewall.
Since then I receive the following message "Itunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn cd's you need to reinstall iTunes." This is the first problem I have had with iTunes.
    Running version 7.0.2
Any ideas on how to fix this, thanks???

Please clarify the second article instructions. I mentions caridge returns but doesn't show them. Should it actually be
    G.E.A.R.
    A.s.p.i.
    W.D.M.
If yes, it didn't work for me. Neither has:
    Updating optical drivers
    Updating optical firmware
Re-installing and/or repairing iTunes (multiple times)
The optical drives come & go EVEN WITHOUT A REBOOT. THEY WORKED FINE BEFORE ITUNES and now I can't use them at all!!! I have one DVD-ROM and DVD-RW. When the RW appears, I am able to import into iTunes for awhile -- until it disappears again. PLEASE HELP.

  • Insert Blank Disc Error - Can Only Burn to DVD

When attempting to burn a cs through iTunes, I continuosly get an error prompting me to insert a blank disc. The cdrs I'm using are fine and I never had a problem with them before. If I insert a blank dvd, the audio files will copy to the dvd w/o a problem. I also ran the diagnostics and received a 128-error code. Anyone have any ideas?

I can think of one thing that may be helpful. There have been numerous burning problems in the last month since version 7.3 and 7.3.1 were released. I have been told that a new version of Itunes is available for download as of today.
This might have been one of the errors that has been corrrected. Try that first. Download it from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If that doesn't help, I hope someone else logs on who has more experience with this issue.

  • Pioneer 106D Verification Error, Can't Burn DVD

    Howdy,
My Superdrive is really acting weird lately. It can read CDs. It can write CDs. It can read DVDs.
But... It can not write DVDs. Any thoughts?
Everytime I try and write a DVD an error message pops that reads, "Can not verify disc. This disc may be unuseable.
    I'm on a 2004 PowerMac G5 with a Pioneer 106D.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers!!!

You should be OK using the 111D without having to upgrade your software. If your signature is correct, and you're on 10.3.7, you'll likely need to use PatchBurn for full support. It's a free utility.
The 106 was a problematic drive for many people, so you're not alone in having issues with that drive.
For media, I'd recommend TDK, Maxell or Verbatim. Memorex is a brand to avoid as much as possible.

  • Can't burn or import cds

I have re-installed Itunes 4 times. I have also unblocked the filters thriugh the Registry, and still nothing.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • Can't play or import a CD into iTunes

Having recently bought an iPhone I have started the process of importing all my CDs into iTunes. I have succesfully imported maybe 50 CDs but when I came to importing These Streets by Paolo Nutini iTunes got stuck on the first track and showed no progress and a copy speed of 0.7. I left it for a good while but it just seemed to crash the program. The CD is quite old so I suspected it was maybe the surface scratches that were causing the problem. As it is one of my favourite albums I decided to buy a new copy on CD (not download as it was cheaper and I can still play the CD in the car). Having come to import the CD again today the same problem has occurred which leads me to think either there is something contained on this one CD that prevents copying or something? I have tried unticking the 'Use error correction...' option but this just copied one track slowly and then got stuck again before starting track 2. The CD won't play either (I never tried it with the first CD but this one crashed iTunes if I try to play a track). Can anyone help me identify the problem please and suggest a fix (other than spend another fiver downloading it!).
I'm using Windows XP and iTunes 11.0.4.4
