Registry Monitor service signficantly impacting startup performance

Hi,
I've observed that the ThinkVantage Registry Monitor service significantly impairs Windows startup performance, and (I believe) completely unnecessarily so. I'm using Rescue and Recovery version 4.21.0016 in a fully updated Win XP SP3.
Between tvt_reg_monitor_svc itself, the accompanying anti-virus process overhead, and their disk access, the system is practically unusable for a couple minutes and "laggy" in anything requiring disk reads for many minutes after that. If at the first opportunity, however, I lower the CPU priority of the tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe process to Below Normal, the system is instantly responsive again and the startup process completes pretty quickly. tvt_reg_monitor_svc gets all its work done, but does so without creating an I/O bottleneck on the system during the already disk-intensive startup process.
Why does tvt_reg_monitor_svc run with Normal priority? Please improve system performance, at startup in particular, by making tvt_reg_monitor_svc run with reduced CPU priority.
Thanks for your consideration.

Hello,
Have you tried excluding the ThinkVantage Registry Monitor service from being scanned by the antivirus software?  If so, did that provide any noticeable improvement in performance?

  • Registry Monitor Service Harddisk Grind

    Hello Lenovo,
    I am having problems with the Lenovo T61 with Windows Vista.
    At the startup there was an unacceptable lot of CPU activity and harddisk hdd grinding for 15 minutes. Since I intend to preserve my harddisk, I have identified the following culprits:
    Vista ReadyBoost
    Vista Prefetch Service
    Vista ReadyBoot
    Lenovo Registry Monitor Service
    Now, I have disabled the ReadyBoost Service, the Prefetch Service, and the ReadyBoot (through the Event Viewer - search for it on www to see where to drill down to do this), but the Registry Monitor Service is causing the most problems.
    Lenovo describes the Register Monitor Service as a general service used by other applications to support various Lenovo functionalities - these you want to keep, including the fingerprint security made available through the Client Security mechanism.
    I too have tried removing scheduler_proxy.exe and tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe from the registry, under Run. But they just come back. I have tried disabling the Register Monitor Service altogether, deleting its file - it just comes back when I use the fingerprint identifier. I have tried making the service startup manual, which is also unsatisfactory.
     What I would like is a real solution, it could along the lines of one the following:
    1) An updated tvt_reg_monitor which only does what its name implies - in other words which is decoupled from the functionalities mentioned by Lenovo, including Client Security. This would enable me to disable the monitor.
    2) A way to configure the tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe to NOT look through the registry for changes, while still providing the fingerprint functionality.
     What do you think I should do?

  • ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service consuming too much CPU!

    My X200 Tablet is often in an unusable stable for 10~20 minutes after a reboot or a wakeup from a sleep/hibernation state. I noticed it's mainly because CPU is busy with the ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service.
    I noticed that although the CPU usage of "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is often <10%, another process "System" is often taking >80% CPU when "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is running. "System" CPU usage immediately comes down when "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is killed. Is it a kind of camouflage? Thanks!
    I was not able to disabling the registry monitor service completely either. Although I can stop and disable it in the Services control panel, it will automatically come back to life after a reboot. I heard that it may be because some other lenovo services, such as the Fingerprint Server, Rescue & Recovery, may need the Registry monitor service.
    Anyone know how can I continue to use RnR and the fingerprint service but keep the annoying Registry Monitor service disabled? I'd like to use the fingerprint reader for convenience, and use RnR for saving data too! (my laptop, half a year old, crashed once already, and RnR saved my data!) Or, how to make the Registry Monitor use less CPU?
    BTW, my X200 tablet is running Windows XP SP3, and currently up-to-date using both lenovo's "ThinkVantage System Update" and microsoft's "Windows Update".
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    this situation was fixed by one patch, so please try to install following patch, if this fixes your situation too:

  • What's a good 3 bureau monitoring service???

    Morning All, Whats a good 4 bureau monitoring services that gives you access to your scores, and allows you to view your three credit reports on a daily basis?  I have USAA Credit Monitoring premium, and it's changing and will only allow me to pull my report once a month starting in 45 days.  I like to pull it daily to see what's been updated, what my utilization is, and if there's been and changes at all. Can anyone recommend a product for me?  I was looking at the myFICO 3-bureau report for $24.95, and thats what I currently pay and would like to stay in that price range as well.   Thanks for the help.

  • Monitoring services in CSS 11050 using SNMP

    Has anyone implemented SNMP monitoring of services for CSS?
    How do i go about doing it using HP Openview as the SNMP manager?
    I have read the SNMP configuration for CSS but still quite confused about setting the threshold for the RMON alarm. How do you determine what threshold to set to indicate that the service is alive or down??
    You might want to refer to the RMON guide for CSS below:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/webscale/css/advcfggd/rmon.htm#35012

    Hi Matthew,
    actually for monitoring services via SNMP you dont need to configure
    alarms on the CSS. First, there are default traps generated by the CSS
    MIBs. Information can be found here:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/webscale/css/advcfggd/snmp.htm#xtocid1874327
    There are two traps "Service Down" and "Service Suspended" send to
    the preconfigured mgmt station. This can be used to indicate whether
    a service is down or not.
    Secound, you can poll the state of the existing services by the mgmt
    station using the CSS MIBs, this is described here:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/webscale/css/advcfggd/snmp.htm#xtocid1874330
    Use the svcExt.apSvcState variables to get the states.
    If you have any further questions ...
    cheers

    I've bought the german version of PE 8. It could be a nice program, but there are still some bugs/problems - despite it works *very* slow on my Lenovo W500, 8 GB RAM, 2,8GHZ Dual Core, Windows 7 64.

    This is old discussion, but let me explain some improvements in Microsoft Anti-Malware Engine. When a program tried to disable any service, process or anything related to Windows Security or Microsoft Anti-Malware Engine , Firewall, etc. It will be detected
    as a suspicious behavior and it will be blocked (no matter whether it is known malware or unknown program). In case of unknown program, you might be asked to send more details or submit it to Microsoft Malware Protection Center.
    In addition, in Windows Vista and later version of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows 8.x when you have User Account Control (UAC), all programs run as an standard user unless you grand them permission as administrator. So by default, if a program tried
    to disable any Security related service in Windows is unable to that because it won't run as administrator and is unable to perform something which runs as administer unless, if you are in administrator account and UAC is off or you grand administrator privilege
    to the program (e.g. right click and run as administrator).
    However, if you still face any programs which might try to disable services and it won't block by FEP , Microsoft Security Essentials or other Microsoft Anti-Malware products, you could submit it sample to Microsoft Malware Protection Center for more analysis.

  • Monitoring Services, Service Dependencies

    Hi all,
    <br>
    I'm looking for a general solution to the following (I suppose rather common) problem:
    <br>
    <br>
    Our system depends on a lot of services/ressources like the network/internet connectivity, sql database, other hosts, web services, file servers, JMS Queues etc. Obviously it is possible that one or more services is not available at some time, be it scheduled (maintenance/backup/reboot...) or unexpected (server crash...).
    <br>
    <br>
    Whether a ressource is available or not can be determined by the application itself (e.g. when catching an IOException), a separate monitoring tool (e.g. nagios) or the administrator.
    <br>
    <br>
    Some services depend on other services, e.g. a JMS queue (Resource "QUEUE) which can only be processed if a third-party Ressource ("HOST") host is available. This means that if the ressource "HOST" is marked as down, the resource "QUEUE" should be suspended until "HOST" is up again.
    <br>
    <br>
    It is possible of course, to code such stuff manually, but it looks cumbersome, and since this is rather a general purpose problem, I'd expect a java standard to be out in the wild.
    <br>
    <br>
    However, I cannot find such a thing. Any suggestions ? Is JMX the way to go ? Or some SNMP stuff ?

    You might want to take a look at JMX Monitor Services. There's nothing out of the box that will meet all of your criteria though.

    Mike,
    Does the Event Monitor log file show anything? You should be able to see
    where the Event Monitor starts by looking at the log's timestamps
    (there's a large blob of XML at that timestamp too), and what follows is
    a sequence of checks making sure the service can start up correctly with
    all its appropriate dependencies. Anything with a 'Result = ' or 'rc='
    followed by a non-zero number is potentially a problem. Let us know what
    those are, and we can troubleshoot the Event Monitor from there. Thanks!
