Registry to install extension to FireFox 24

Hi, I want to deploy a FireFox extension automatically to a box via the Windows registry. Before FireFox 23, I am using the steps in https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Adding_Extensions_using_the_Windows_Registry to add an extension.
I deploy the extension to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions and create a registry to point to this.
It worked pretty well until FireFox 24.
In Firefox, it seems it does not recognize the extension deployed in this manner. When I open FireFox, click Extensions, I see nothing.
Do you know if there is any step change in https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Adding_Extensions_using_the_Windows_Registry for FireFox 24?

  • Firefox running under Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) 12 (KDE) won't install extensions for Firefox

Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu) 12, KDE desktop
    Firefox 10.0
Started up Firefox right after Mint was installed. On the add-ons page video download helper was shown as a featured extension and I installed it, then rebooted when prompted. After that, Firefox would never install another extension again. Just gives download error.
I google searched and in a forum I found a post about uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox. I tried it. First time I started it up, it installed video download helper again, but then would not install any other extension after that. I tried numerous extensions I '''KNOW''' are working in Firefox 10.0 because they are working in Firefox over on my Win 7. Everytime I get a download error, either from the addons site or from the Add-ons Manager in Firefox.
Someone told me on the Mint forums that I needed to add a subdirectory on a certain directory, so I did that. Didn't work.
It seems Ubuntu disables the root, or cripples it, and I guess Mint does too. You can still use sudo when doing things in Ubuntu (and Mint I would assume, since it's based on Ubuntu) but you can't get true 'superuser' access as I understand it. But, I don't think this would have any bearing on the problem, or my search of the Mint forums would have come up with all kinds of threads screaming about this.

Problem solved - it was caused by an add-on called "PDF Download 3.0.0.2)
To fix - in Firefox :
Click on '''Tools''' command (top of screen)
    Select '''Extensions'''
click on "'''disable''' button beside '''PDF Download'''
    Close Firefox and restart it.
Clicking on any pdf file should open a new tab now and the document will appear there.

  • I need a list 0f installed extensions

I used to be able to get a webpage with a list of all my installed extensions. How do I do that in Fx 6 or 7?

"'''Ctrl+Shift+A'''" then select extensions, disabled extensions at end.
Type "'''about:support'''" into the location bar, you can print the page, print a selection. You can select and copy, or use the copy button.
If you want it in an Excel list, then install the following extension and you can select the rows you want and paste it into Excel using the Tools menus.
If you want to paste into Excel you need an extension
But you can install extensions in Firefox, the extensions of particular interest to you are:
    * Dafizilla Table2Clipboard :: Add-ons for Firefox
    * TableTools2 - Copy/Sort/Chart/Filter Table&More! :: Add-ons for Firefox

  • I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.

    Hi,
I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.
The "Staged" folder is present and remains after a restart, but the extensions do not get installed. They show in the extensions page with the "will be installed after you restart Firefox" message and remain like this no matter how many times I restart.
    Any Idea's?
Running Firefox 24.0 on Windows 8.1
    Many Thanks,
    BD
P.S. Just tried to install the "troubleshooter" add-on before posting the question and I got an error saying it cannot install because it cannot modify the needed file. (I did it manually instead)

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.

  • After upgrading to 8.0.1 Firefox will download but not install extensions after upgrading to 8.0.1

Windows Vista. Avast Antivirus with Sandbox feature.
Outside Sandbox - all extensions available. Within Sandbox - no extensions available and not able to install any extensions. ie Adblock Plus, No Script etc.
Before upgrading to 8.0.1 no problems in either mode. Add-ons appear to be intact in either mode.
When attempting to install an extension after downloading:
"(extension) could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file".
Reluctant to delete pluginreg dat file because all extensions are working outside Sandbox.

    Hi,
You may have to "trust' the upgraded Firefox, if there is such a setting in Avast and install extensions after starting Firefox outside of the sandbox - normally. Not sure about Avast, but usually a sandbox would mean a virtual area like hard disk storage, registry settings etc. for the sandboxed app and once the application is closed or the computer is shutdown, everything that was done by the app or via the app is sort of vaporized and the application and it's settings are returned to it's previous permanent state.

  • Install Gnome 3 extensions via firefox

I'm using Arch x64 with Gnome 3.2.1 and Firefox 8.0.1 on my laptop, the Firefox Gnome Shell Plugin is installed and activated.
I can browse through the extensions on https://extensions.gnome.org/ and I can see the activate/deactivate switches and trigger them. After that I'm beeing asked if I really want to install this extension but after I click on the install button nothing happens. The "installed extensions" tab on the site is empty. No error message at all. Is there a log file for firefox extensions or gnome itself?
I looked through the log files in /var/log/* but didn't found anything.
On my desktop with the same setup of software the install process works like a charm.

I got the package list from kahelos, and installed the following (missing ones got installed), now extensions can be installed from extensions.gnome.org.
application's optional dependencies are not installed which package groups like gnome.
I still don't know which package fixed/enabled the extensions feature for gnome 3.2 and firefox. I installed archlinux64 with xorg, gnome, gnome-extra, gstreamer groups. There are still too many manual minor dependency management in a fresh install.

  • I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. Nothing currently on the help site has resolved it.

I have been trying to uninstall several extensions for firefox. I'm told by the Add-Ons window that these extensions will be uninstalled when I restart firefox, but they come back every time I restart. I've tried clearing the extensions cache from my firefox profile and it does not work. Following the steps in all of the active questions regarding this issue among other users have yielded no results. Nothing currently on the help site (which I've combed through for the last three hours) has helped.
Most of the extensions I'm now trying to uninstall are old ones that stopped functioning/being compatible with one of the more recent updates of firefox. The rest are toolbars I've never used because they're unsightly and clutter up my screen
    * What I wound up doing was installing the newest of the newest versions of firefox (it's at 5.0 or something now, I think). That just made all the plugins, add-ons, and extensions I wanted to get rid of obsolete and it auto-removed them on its own.

I do really appreciate you taking the time out to try and offer some solutions though. Thank you very much for your effort!

  • Tools menu is missing items I am expecting after I install extensions and other oddities

In the process of installing and customizing Firefox 3..6.4 on a new laptop, I noticed that when I expand the Tools menu, I do not see items for a number of the extensions I installed, which I see in Firefox on my old system.
For example, I installed the "PDF Download" extension and did not see a selection for "PDF Download - Options" in the Tools menu. I installed quite a number of extensions and in summary, the Tools Menu never changed one bit.
A different example. After I installed the Launchy extension. I went to customize my tool bar but the button for Launchy was not available to add to my toolbar.
Yet another example of strangeness was after I installed IE Tab. When I right-clicked on a link the "Open link in IE Tab" did not show up in the menu..
I tried doing a clean uninstall of Firefox following instructions from several websites and then reinstalling Firefox. Regardless of what I did, I was unable to see the expected items in the Tools menu after installing my selected extensions.
Things start to get weird. I performed a clean uninstall of Firefox 3.6.4 and downloaded and installed Firefox 3.5.10 and proceeded to install all of the extensions I had installed on my other system. Most of the items I was expecting to see in the Tool menu were there, BUT there were several lines that were blank which did not do anything when I selected them.
I was able to determine that they were related to the AdBlock Plus, downthemall! and fireftp extensions. Once I uninstalled them, the empty lines in the menu disappeared. I tried reinstalling them one by one to see if any of them would appear correctly in the menu, but adblock plus and downthemall did not. I left FireFTP installed and left adblock plus and downthemall! uninstalled.
I then upgraded from 3.5.10 to 3.6.4 to see if all of the Tools menu items would remain. They did remain.... I then tried to install adblock plus and downthemall! but there was no change to the Tools menu, considering that in Firefox 3.5.10 I was getting empty lines in the tools menu for where I should see "Adblock Plus Preferences" and "DownThemAll! Tools".
Not sure what is going on here, but something odd is definitely going on here. I have not tried to install any other extensions, but my gut instinct is that I will see more issues when I install new extensions.

I had a similar problem and could not get FireFTP to show in the Tools menu and did as someone else suggested (amongst other things), I 'Disabled' the ZoneAlarm Toolbar through 'Add-ons' on the Tools menu and presto FireFTP appeared on the Tools menu after restart. Good luck

  • [solved] INSTALL EXTENSIONS/AAD ONS INTO A NEW PROFIOLE USING A WAY LIKE dpkg --get-selections /backup/installed-EXTENSIONS.log

  • "Copy to clipboard" issue with Acrobat X and Skype extension in Firefox

This post is just to let you know that there is and issue with Acrobat X and the Skype extension in Firefox.
I don't know why but when both programs (Firefox and Acrobat) are opened and I try to copy something from a PDF I always get an error
message like "Impossible to copy into the clipboard. An internal error occurred".
If I close Firefox or I disable the Skype extension for Firefox everything runs smoothly.
It is really odd, I don't know if it is a problem of Acrobat, Firefox or of Skype....
Are anyone experiencing the same problem?
    See you.
    Alessandro.
Ps. I'm using Windows Vista SP2, Skype extension 5.2.0.7165, Acrobat 10.0.1, Firefox 3.6.16

Just found your post after getting the same problem with Google Chrome and Adobe Reader 10. It doesn't happen all the time but is annoying. If I switch Chrome off the problem is cured. Switch it straight back on and the problem reappears. It has only started after Skype was installed. Thanks for posting - I'll just switch Chrome off for now when I want to copy and paste unless a fix appears.

  • Are extensions for older Dreamweaver (CS5) archived somewhere? Can an installed extension be exported?

Today's wild goose chase is the extension that restored the deprecated validator into CS5.
I'm trying to re-install the validator extension for CS5, but the link (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=2188 524) just redirects to https://creative.adobe.com/addons, which no longer seems to offer any way to get to older extensions.
Oddly, I can't seem to find the original package (I assume it was an mxp or zxp) on the computer where I already have the extension installed. Maybe it's got a different filename and is eluding my search, or maybe it just went into a temp folder I've long since emptied.
I know that the Dreamweaver/Downloaded Extensions folder in Windows would contain the downloaded install file, but this is a Mac and I haven't been able to find out what the equivalent directory here is.
I'd pack up the installed extension and copy that to the other computer if I knew how to do that, but I don't even know the filenames or locations involved in this extension.
My employer isn't going to update my copy of Dreamweaver, so getting a current editor isn't an option.
Blah, what a mess. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on an install file for this ancient extension? (Or have any other thoughts on how I can track it down?)
    Thanks!
    Al

I don't think that extension exists anymore b/c DW ultimately put their built-in validation feature back in to CS6.  And CS5 is no longer supported.
Why don't you just use W3C's online validation service which is much better than the DW feature?
    CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
If you have Firefox's Web Developer Toolbar Add-on, among many other things it allows you to run a W3C validation on your local files directly from Firefox's Tools Menu.  See screenshot.
