Regular auto logout from SDN

Hi,
Every half an hour or so I get automatically logged out of SDN.Its not like I am idle on SDN for that duration.Very much active.
It so happens that I am browsing forums..and suddenly the screen shows 'Guest..please login'(when i refresh) in top right hand corner of the screen.Or it shows 'You cannot post a reply unless u login' when I try to post a reply.
If I then click on HOME and goto home page..it comes up as if I am logged on.
Then clicking on forums..page comes up as GUEST..please log in.
Unless I click log off and come back to home page and login again,this does not get corrected.Its irritating sometimes.
Some of my colleagues too seem to experience this.
Is it fairly common bug?

I hadnt seen your blog.Its very informative.I got some idea about this auto logout problem.
But shouldnt the user be auto logged-out only when he is idle for the duration?I thought so..
Also..u have mentioned this too..being logged off from forums but still logged on on the home page(PORTAL).
What is the purpose behind this revoking mechanism?Reduce traffic/load on servers?

Auto Logout when idle not working for transaction iview

Hi,
When we open an SAP system using transaction iview and if the screen is idle for 30 mins, auto logout doesn't seem to be work.
We have verified that rdisp/gui_auto_logout parameter is set to 1800 i.e., 30 min. which a default value. Do we have to activate this service or its activated by default? Let me know if any other parameter needs to be configured.
Also, is there a way to detect multiple sessions when SAP transaction is executed like the way SAP Logon pad detects when user has logged in into SAP system on different PC?
We are using NW portal 7.01 and IE 7.

the param icm/keep_alive_timeout does only that if within this time interval new data arrives over the network from the partner, the ICM attempts to keep the connection open once it has been established. If, for the existing connection, there is no further communication within the specified time period, the ICM terminates the connection. and this is a static param so if u change this it needs a sys restart and the param rdisp/plugin_auto_logout is also dependent on the above param as then it delets only the user context after the time period is reached not the work process context and the param login/disable_multi_gui_login works only for dialog log ins not for prta and as far as my knowledge there is no other way to detect this but i heard like by doing some code changes u can know something regarding that.

Gui auto logout

This is regarding SAP auto logout.
When activity is not detected in the systemfor a pre-determined period
of time, the user is automatically logged out from the system.
Users mentioned that they are often disturbed by phone calls from the
vendors and need to stop working in SAP immediately. Then some time
later the session gets closed and the data is lost, at this stage, it
is too late for the users to do anything and they will need to restart
whatever they were doing before.
Is there any possibility of enhancement for this auto logout mechanism
so that SAP gives users a chance to save the data?
For example, a pop-up message indicating that the session will be
closed down 5 minutes in advance of actual logout time will give a
chance to save the data to users.
This feature is not available in SAP standard but i do like to know whether you have customers who insist of having this and what's your workaround?

I do have the rdisp/gui_auto_logout defined. But that is not the case. What user want is that there will be a pop out message to warn user that their session has been left idle for n number of minutes and will soon be closed before the gui actually terminated. They could be having many session open. All along we have restricted user from having multiple session (which we have done). Let me know how you manage such situation in your environment

Auto logout time different per users

Hello
we are using almost all modules in ECC. So we have 2 kinds of SAP users, the administrative ones and the operational ones.
The administrative ones is using SAP all the day by creating purchase orders, process orders or recording control results by example. When they make an activities in SAP they can completed the task without any interruption.
But we have as well operational users who are using SAP to make physical activities like to place pallet in the warehouse with WM functions and to weight a drum from the PI-sheet in PPPI.
The auto logout is after 15 minutes of inactivity and I don't find how to set it up per users. In deed, the operator in production needs time between each weighing meaning stick label, remove the previous drum, take the new one, write information on the paper batch record, ... The time between 2 actions in SAP is more than 15 minutes. So the operator is automatically logout between each weighing and it takes around 2 minutes to log again and reload the Pi-sheet. By example, to weight 46 drums the operator will lost more than 1,5 hour. It's not acceptable by the production.It increases the production time of 16%.
How can I set up a auto logout time to 15 minutes or less for the administrative users and 1 hour for the production users located in a protected area ( no access by external people) ?

Hi,
You can increase the logout time for the endusers. But the power users, throughout the day they will be using the system. This time increase will not affect much on the power users. If you are saving some productive hours by increasing this time out means, you can do this. But it will act similar for both the users.

[solved] init 5 and logout from Xorg session -- crash

Hi guys and gals!
Hope this is the right forum.
I have a strange issue here with restarting Xorg sessions. As long as I just boot up or use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to start and shutdown X, there's no problem at all, session manager (kdm) comes up properly and everything is just fine. But if I logout from the environment (KDE3), Xorg crashes and I get a black screen with a blinking cursor or even full of strange y" symbols on vc/7.
On the other virtual consoles I'm able to run startx and this is still in runlevel 5!

Of course, I can switch to runlevel 3 and then 5 again to get a session manager, but you have to be root for this and I got other users here. So this is quite stupid.
I can't remember to had this problem before, it seems to be since my update yesterday. Repositories only current, extra and community, pacnew files are all merged with my configs. Don't see any cause.

It's probably a nvidia bug, but there is a workaround given at the end of the other thread.

Auto logout or disconnect of Lync 2013 client after inactivity

Is there any way to configure the Registry or perhaps a GPO so that Lync 2013 clients running on Windows 7 will auto logout or disconnect from the server if they have been inactive after a certain amount of time? Searched around and could not find anything.
I found the link below but it uses Preferences which have undesirable side affects.

[SOLVED] auto-logout of tty1 after logout of desktop env. possible?

I don't know if I am missing something...
I have recently posted here about running X with different screen solutions: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=191255
I now added the auto-login configuration described here and that helps, except that when I logout, I am stuck at the tty1 console again as opposed to going straight back into auto-login and starting X. I know it's just a simple Ctrl+D to logout of the console, but I would prefer to:
- logout of desktop environment
- tty1 auto-logout
- tty1 auto-login
Is there a way to do this?

So let me try to give you all the details of my setup:
I have setup autologin to the console, as described in Automatic login to virtual console.
Once logged in at the console, ~/.bash_profile starts my desktop environment Enlightenment.
Here is my ~/.bash_profile:

As you can probably make out from the comments in that file, this is what happens when I run the script:
- A window with a selection-list pops up where I can choose "hires" or "lowres"
- When I choose either of these, the script rewrites the file ~/.RESOLUTION accordingly
- The script calls Enlightenment's "exit" function, which shuts down Enlightenment
- Restarting Enlightenment now will have ~/.bash_profile and ~/.xinitrc use the value that's set in ~/.RESOLUTION to start Enlightenment with the corresponding xorg.conf or xorg.conf-2k file
Everything works as expected, but what I am trying to accomplish is, that Enlightenment will automatically restart after I use the script above.
A manual logout does that once back at the console (tty1). But I can not seem to trigger that logout from the script.
In other words, everything works as expected, but after the script runs and Enlightenment exits, I have to manually do Ctrl+D to logout, which in turn does the automatic login again.
I know it may sound a bit overkill... but it would really be nice to get this working.
In case you wonder: running a custom xrandr command or script does not work in my case. It did before, when I was running Enlightenment e17, but apparently they changed something—once Enlightenment is in xinerama mode, it stays there, no matter what xrandr sets. I have tried that before, but it didn't work and that's why I came up with the more complicated solution above which uses two different xorg.conf files and a conditional startup command for startx and enlightenment_start
I hope it all makes sense, I would really be happy to find a solution for this...

How to take Auto backup from External Network Drive to Mac pro internal Dri

I have a External Network Drive (Buffalo 1TB) which i use as a server, now i need to take auto backup from that external drive to the Mac i am working on, which has 2TB Internal hard Disk.

If you want something different and don't mind paying SuperDuper! is a great product as well this WebSite will have many options I would stick to carbon copy clone http://www.pure-mac.com/backup.html I also like EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software for the Mac it is a great product but very much on the expensive side for backup utilities although if you need word offers this might be right up your alley.

Error While Downloading "SAP NetWeaver 7.0 JavaTrials" from SDN

I was trying to download "SAP NetWeaver 7.0 JavaTrials" from SDN , a sneak preview version of EP7.0.
i got this error while downloading it ...
"Invalid Archive Directory" and because of that i was not able to save the file.
Can anyone guide me what is the reason for this and whats the solution to it.

The file type is *.tgz instead of .rar.Also im not able to download the entire file,when i starts downloading it completes with no time and when i try to open im getting the error "Invalid Archive Directory".Does this appears because of the file gets corrupted??

HP Laserjet P4014dn won't auto print from tray 1

HP Laserjet P4014dn stopped auto printing from tray 1. Can't manually print from there either. Now it always pulls from tray 2 (bottom tray) even if paper is loaded in tray 1. Auto print is selected in software setting. SN [Personal Information Removed] CB512A. Help!

There may be a couple of reasons why the printer will not auto print from Tray 1.
The following references the User Guide for the printer which you can obtain from here:

Page 18 of the User Guide has the section "Paper Handling Menu".
This section defines the menu items that can be used to set Size and Type for Tray 1.
Page 85 of the User Guide has the start of the Configure Trays Section.
In this section there are two notes. If Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE, the printer will pull from that tray whenever media is loaded in that Tray. If Tray 1 is set to a specific size, it will act like a Cassette. This means that it will follow the paper handling model of Trays 2, 3, etc..
Example: Tray 1 is set to Letter, Tray 2 is set to Letter. When a job is sent from the PC requesting Letter and the Sources is Auto, the printer FW will look for the highest number tray that has letter installed and pull from that tray. Thus, Tray 2 will always be used unless Tray 2 doesn't have paper.
Page 86 has the section "Configure a tray by using the Paper Handling menu".
Follow the steps in this section to validate that Tray 1 is set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE. If not set to ANY SIZE, ANY TYPE then change the setting to be ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE. You may have to scroll through the list of sizes and types to find what you are looking for.
Once possibility is that the printer is not detecting that paper is loaded in Tray 1. One method to verify this is to remove all paper from Tray 2 and lower trays if there are more than just Tray 2 installed. This will force the printer to pull paper from Tray 1 if paper is present. If paper is present and the Tray 1 menu items are set to ANY SIZE and ANY TYPE and the printer prompts for you to load Tray 1 with paper, it is possible that the printer is not detecting that paper is in the tray.
In this case, I would recommend you contact HP Support as the media presence sensor may no longer be working properly.

How do I stop iMovie 11 auto importing from external HD?

Okay, I'm going crazy. I, the intrepid Googler, have so far been unable to find the answer to this question. Please somebody help me!
I have hundreds of video clips stored on an external hard drive. However, when I crank it up, iMovie exceptionally irritatingly starts auto-importing every single clip back onto my MacBook's hard drive. No! No! NOOOO! That's NOT what I want! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! I only want to import ONE video of MY choice at a time to edit and then save it back to the external drive, I don't have enough ROOM for ALL of them on the internal drive, you crazy machine!!!!
So. I go into iMovie preferences, where I'd expect to see an option for turning off auto import. Nope. I cannot see anything there. Do I have menu blindness? Am I losing my mind?
Then I Google 'how to stop iMovie 11 from auto-importing from external hard drive and find nothing. Am I alone in this? Surely not. Am I being a dunce? Possibly.
