Regular Screen Vs. Glossy Screen

I wanted to know what people thought about the display options. I heard pros and cons about both and I wanted to get other opinions on the subject. Gonna be using the MBP for editing photos, movies, and things of that nature. Thanks

I just bought a MacBook Pro and went matt screen. My decision was based on a single question. Where do I intend to use it. While I do a lot of Photoshop work and color work, that's done on my Mac Pro 30" monitor yadda yadda. The MacBook will be for accessing the web and mail when traveling, downloading images from digital cameras for eventual sorting and processing later and being able to go to beautiful natural spots and write (I love doing that!). OK so most of my work would not be in a controlled environment, most outdoors. Reflections and glare would be an issue.
Then I went to an Apple Store to check out the screens. All they had out were glossy. I couldn't believe it. The glare from all the lighting systems made trying to use the display laptops and iMacs intolerable from my point of view and I immediately decided against the glossy screen even though I really liked the 'pop' of the colors on a friend's new iMac in a stable environment where there are no noticeable reflections.

Should I get the 15 inch MacBook Pro with HD screen or regular screen?

I'm going to buy a new MacBook Pro 15 inch (I think the highest configuration), but I'm debating whether I should get the HD screen or not (most likely the glossy screen - I know the anti-glare is probably more functional but I think the glossy just looks a lot better.....). I've read that there can be problems with the screen (text too small or things like that). I just want to know, is the HD screen worth it or should I just stick with the regular screen?

I was in the USA last month and decided to get the 15" with the best spec available, so I wouldn't kick myself later. It came with the HD display - I specifically wanted the anti-glare. My previous 15" MBP also had the anti-glare option. Maybe it's a personal choice, but I prefer the anti-glare display - I hate looking into a display, and seeing a reflection of what is behind me on my display.
Anyway, I'm really happy with my purchase, and would make the same purchase if I had to do it again. I'm not too sure I can notice much difference in the HD display compared to my older 15 " though, pictures look pretty much the same (great), but maybe it's only noticeable working with very high quality graphics and images. Regular screen to Glossy screen?

Do you think that there is any way to send in my mac book pro to get a glossy display screen instead of the non-glossy display? Probably not, but I'm just curious.

It depends how long you've had the MBP for. Apple inc have a return policy whereby, if dissatisfied with the product, you can get a refund within 14 days; depending on the type of product. If you're outside of this period, and there is no defect with the product, I'm almost certain they won't swap the machine out for you. I think at best, you would have to take your MBP into your nearest dealer for them to arrange the screen being swapped/replaced, but I'm not sure of costs.

As a side-note, I have a MBP with a matte finish and an HP notebook with a glossy finish. I find I get far too much reflection off the glossy finish, dulling the sharpness of the display and sometimes making it generally more difficult to see the screen; depending on the surrounding light. I personally prefer the matte finish because it doesn't reflect as much light.

I'm assuming your iPhone is not jailbroken?
You likely have an app that's misbehaving. Try restoring as new and see how it runs factory fresh.
Also, maybe your Home button is not functioning correctly. This has been a widely reported problem. Try cleaning under it with a vacuum or compressed air.
Note that you have a 1 year warranty - you may need to use it.

Converting widescreen to regular screen

Hi there. I need help. I've started an iMovie project using an old analog camcorder. I then convert the tape to DV through a canopus ADVC 100. All has worked well in the past with previous projects.
Half way through this project I bought a Sony HDR-HC1 HDV Camcorder. It records in HD or regular DV. I set it to record in DV mode. Unfortunately, I've recorded images for the project in widewcreen mode. I did't reset the aspect ratio for regular DV.
Now I have all the footage I need, but it's in widescreen.
My question is twofold. First can the widescreen video be converted to regular DV? If so how? Secondly, If I use the widescreen video clips as segments in the project, will I be creating a problem when I burn the project to iDVD?
Will iMovie allow me to mix the two with no problems other than the visual differences of the two formats? They're both DV after all.
I'd sure appreciate your comments before I spend more hours on a project that may give me problems if I can do something now to prevent it.

Your suggestions were helpful. I'm happy to report that I've finished the project, and I'm reasonably happy with it. Mish, the plug-ins didn't work as I expected. They seem to introduce a kind of distortion that makes the picture's appearance look strange. Instead. I'll keep them to use as a special effect.
Matti, thank you. Your suggestion to use MPEG Streamclip turned out to be the application I needed. Your advice on how to convert the format was right on mark.
I present the video tomorrow of my son's grade seven class' and year acivities at a special assembly. I think it will go over well. I'll judge my success by the number of parents who weep.

Adding a glossy screen

I bought my Macbook Pro about a year and a half ago with a glossy screen. When I got to finally open it I didn't realize I didn't have a glossy screen until after loading everything on the computer and didn't feel like dealing with it. Every once in a while it irritates me that I didn't get the glossy screen that I want. A few weeks ago I checked my serial number on apple.com and through the serial number it's supposed to be glossy as well. I was wondering if there was any way to get a glossy screen put on over my current screen either for free due to their error or if I have to pay it. Either way I really want the glossy. After all it is only a thin piece that gets put on over the regular screen in the factory anyways. Any help. Does anyone know if it's possible to have the glossy put on after the fact? Thanks.

Since it's been a year and a half, you'd have to buy a new computer. They would have taken responsibility if you had brought it in right after you saw the problem, but they won't now.
After all it is only a thin piece that gets put on over the regular screen in the factory anyways.
That is not true -- it's a completely different top layer of the screen, replacing the matte later rather than resting atop it. You'd be better off selling your current computer and buying a new one with a glossy display.

Glossy Screen Question

I'm looking into getting my wife a MacBook, and it seems it only comes with a glossy screen. I'm not familiar with the glossy screen and would appreciate comments on how it looks. Any problem with reflections, etc? I have a flat screen MacBook Pro, and love it. For traveling, though, she wants the smaller MacBook. I have a MacBook, and the glossy screen looks great. It makes every image "POP" with realism. The internet, photos, pages and keynote looks absolutely gorgeous with the glossy screen. Compared to my old laptop with the regular LCD non-glossy screen; the glossy screen makes everything more vibrant and real looking. Also, the glossy screen looks brighter than traditional LCD computer screens. Like any liqud crystal display, it is a bit hard to see the screen in direct sunlight, that's the only drawback.

Screen mirroring - screen on TV freezes at regular intervals

Hi,I have a strange problem when mirroring the screen of my new Sony Xperia Z3 Compact on a Netgear PTV3000.The phone connects without any problems to the PTV3000 but than regular screen freezes start to appear (sometimes immediately after connecting, sometimes it´s ok for few minutes and then these freezes suddenly start to occur). No matter whether I play a video or just browse photos. The mirrored screen on the TV freezes at regular intervals - every 3-4 seconds the screen freezes for about 2 seconds. These freezes appear only on the TV not on the screen of the phone.The strange thing is that these freezes don´t appear when mirroring the screen of my laptop or of my older Xperia Z1 Compact using the same Netgear PTV3000. This problem only occurs on the new Z3 Compact. I already tried to hard reset the phone, but it didn´t help. I also tried to change the channel and bandwith on my Asus router, but this also din´t solve the problem (I didn´t expect that it would help as the older Z1C and laptop can mirror the screen on the same network without any problems, but anyway I tried). Are you aware of this problem when mirroring the screen of the Xperia Z3 Compact, is there any solution? The phone is running on Android Lollipop 5.0.2, currently there is no update available for my phone. Is there a chance that an update will fix it?

This sounds very strange. However, you have posted that this issue happens sometimes and not every time.
In my opinion I dont think that software could be responsible for this issue.
Maybe a looses cable connection? But believe me; its not easy to say whats wrong without any diagnostic tests.
You have suggested that you have sent the unit to the shop.
I would recommend contacting the Toshiba service partner in your country. The technicians should check the notebook.

Regular and wide screen output viewing

Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to create a project so that
it will be diplayed properly (page nicely filled and not having to
scroll) regardless if the audience is viewing the output on a
regular screen or on a wide screen.
I have a widescreen and at the moment I change the settings
of my computer to a lower resolution to record for 'regular'
screens. But is there a way to record so that I can cater to
widescreen and regular audiences at the same time?

Welcome to our community, Jennifer
You might try simply linking to the .SWF as the output as
opposed to the HTML file. This normally causes the file to scale to
fit the browser size. However, you still may not see it completely
fill the area. There may still be blank areas on the sides or the
top and bottom.
Life is always a trade off, eh? Seems you fix one issue only
to see a different issue arise as a result.
