Regular Site Cache Recreation Needed
I keep seeing this problem on these boards, and no response
from the developers. Very sad.
It seems that every few days I need to re-create site caches
for my sites, and every few weeks, DW MX simply won't open. I know
how to fix it by monkeying with the Configuration directory, but
that hardly seems like the proper way for such an expensive and
presumably professional software package to operate.
Does any DW user here (or god forbid, a developer!) have a
solution that makes the site cache more stable?
>I have DW MX2004, and I'm afraid to upgrade to 8 because

this one!)
Where are you getting this misinformation? Lack of
improvements? Good
grief - in CSS alone, there are too many dramatic
improvements to count, not
to mention the server-behavior improvements, the PHP support
improvements,
the overall UI improvements, and on and on.

OK - where is your local site physically located? Is it on a
remote network
shared drive?
> I suspect it may have to do with sharing files between 2
sites
Yes - I suspect you are correct. Give me the details of your
setup for
this, please?

CS3 DW freezes recreating site cache
I have a brand new iMac (2GB RAM) and just installed CS3
yesterday. I imported my old sites (exported to .ste files from my
PC) and when I go to point DW to my site's files on my local
fileserver (Windows server) all seems to go well until DW starts
recreating the site cache. It counts all the files in the site,
then on about the 2nd or 3rd file it freezes. I've deleted all the
sites I've created and tried to recreate one at a time, but still
no joy. Anyone else seen this?
Thanks,
WmWm,
DW could be choking on a particular file. Try moving all of
your files
to a different folder to see if you can open the site. If so,
then start
moving them back 1 folder at a time to try to isolate the
problem.

My templates are not updating the children pages and I cannot
recreate my site cache through - site - advanced. It is greyed out.
Is there another way to recreate the site cache?
Can anyone help?Yes. Define a new site that points to the same root folder.

Fix: Recreate site cache hang
You've probably encountered the hang in Dreamweaver when
attempting to "Recreate Site Cache" when the site was on a shared
network drive.
Many messages on the net attempt to explain the reasoning as
a bug in Dreamweaver, or an issue with the network, but in my case
it was a matter of the McAfee Virus protection. As soon as I made
the following adjustment, the "Recreate Site Cache" worked like a
dream (no pun intended).
NOTE: MAKE THESE CHANGES TO YOUR MCAFEE AT YOUR OWN RISK
SINCE IT INVOLVES TURNING OFF SCANING OF NETWORK DRIVES!
To fix:
1) Open McAfee Security Center
2) Choose "Configure"
3) Choose "Computers & Files"
4) Choose "SystemGuard Protection"
5) Choose the "Advanced" button
6) Choose "Realtime Scanning"
7) Uncheck the "Scan Network Drives" checkbox.
Happy coding!I wonder if people have similar issues with Symantec/Norton's
patented "Whole-System Slowdown Engine™"? -
Does anybody know whats the bennefit of recreating site cache (via the option "recreate site cache")?
Hi
The 'recreate site cache' should be used when you insert/delete files using your os file management, (e.g. windows explorer) as it enables DW to track what files/images, etc. are related to other files within the site. Without doing this DW has no way of knowing that a specific file exists or not.

Cookie settings are correct;history, cookies and cache have been cleared.Still some sites say I need to enable cookies.
You need to enable third-party cookies if you want to logout from Hotmail. If you do not want to enable third-party cookies (I don't) then you need to remove the live.login and passport.net cookies yourself.

Crash when updating site cache? MM_Username1?
Hi,
All of a sudden, tonight, DW8.0.2 will no longer open or load
one of my
sites, crashing when "Updating Site Cache". The site is ASP
linked to an SQL
database.
Checking the file that the cache gets to, I notice that the
problem file is
within a sub-directory of the site, called "/admin". Thing is
though, it's
not always the same file, but it IS always a file within the
/admin
sub-directory.
Within this sub-directory I altered, by hand, the Login User
code and
Restrict Access to Page code to create and use the session
variable
MM_Username1 as opposed to the default MM_Username.
Could this be the reason for the sudden trouble with the site
cache? I am
puzzled because the site was working fine for a few weeks
now, with this
sub-directory included, and I didn't create the MM_Username1
issue today
either, it has also been working fine for a good few weeks
now. I've also
not added anything new to the site, that I am aware of.
When I remove the sub-directory from the site, the Updating
Site Cache works
fine, so I am 100% sure there is a problem with the files
within this
sub-directory. How will I know which one though?
I've tried this, as recommended by Adobe, but I still get a
freeze-up when
re-creating the cache:
1. Try renaming the Dreamweaver user configuration folder, so
that
Dreamweaver will automatically generate a new user
configuration folder the
next time Dreamweaver launches. The Configuration folder is
located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration
2. Recreate your Dreamweaver user settings in the registry as
follows:
Launch the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button,
choose Run, then
type "regedit". In the Registry Editor, navigate to this
folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8
Rename the "Dreamweaver 8" key to "DreamweaverOLD", so that
Dreamweaver will
automatically generate a new user settings key the next time
you launch it.
3. Recreate your Dreamweaver site definitions in the registry
as follows.
The steps below will delete your site definitions in
Dreamweaver.
4. Launch the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button,
choose Run, then
type "regedit". In the Registry Editor, navigate to this
folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Common\8\Sites
Rename the "Sites" key to "SitesOLD", so that Dreamweaver
will automatically
generate a new Sites key the next time you launch it.
Any further advice?
Regards
nath.Found it! Jeesh.
I had a querystring value in my UPDATE redirect URL which was
coded
incorrectly!!!
I am frustrated that, rather than just highlighting the error
or, at the
very least, producing an error when opening the specific
file, this type of
thing crashed the entire DW programme.
The time I spent in Notepad today changing MM_Username1 back
to
MM_Username!! Turns out that was nothing to do with it.
<groan> Yeah,
that's right, laugh it up! :o)
Anyway, solved now. A misplaced ", %, ), (, <, >, &
etc can cause you no
end of grief! :o(
Nath.

I'm working in an environment that has multiple users on
different computers that have access to a shared drive that
contains website files.
If I recreate the site cache on my computer does that
recreate the site cache FROM my computer, would this affect the
site cache from other computers that have access to the files?
Thanks in advance.I think it's a recipe for catastrophe to have that many users
sharing the
same local site. But your best bet would be to contact
Macromedia/Adobe
directly to see what they can offer.

ECommerce site vs. 'regular' site
Hi,
Seems like every eStore solution I look at seems to have the same grid / architecture. Does such a web company exist that offers a custom site built as 'responsive design', but with an eShopping experience to also reflect the same responsive, custom-looking experience vs. being the typical cookie cutter and/or segregated from rest of 'regular' site?
I understand this is mainly because of the content management tool, but surely someone out there has broken that typical mold? Or is there no such thing? - The commerce orders need to integrate with CRM.
Any references, or can you point me in the right direction where I should be looking?
Thank you!First of all, to SnakEyez, CRM referrs to customer relationship management, a model for managing a company’s interactions with customers, clients, and sales prospects. You're collecting information about clients and maintaining it in a database so that you can prospect those past clients for future business.
To r_tist, I have tended to "roll my own." I do custom websites that have a sales engine that handles orders. I have not implimented CRM at all because I am concerned about data security on my server and don't want to assume responsibility for the data if my system were to be hacked or cracked. I do, of course, secure my sites with a security certificate. Because I am "rolling my own," I can come up with unique ways to handle sales and have done so.
That can be expensive and I would price a sales engine with CRM at around $5,000 (entry level) to do for someone and I would ask that my customer keep the CRM database on a server that is not 100% live on the Internet, rather than use my server's SQL database handle CRM for the security concerns I have just mentioned. And I think the price is why you're finding lots of sales sites are doing the same thing over and over. Something that is all ready "cooked" may be cheaper than something custom.
I do see Apple doing something unique and I think that is because they have a very good team of code people who work on that unique
architecture. Apple developed their own database engine, which I imagine they use as well as their own web standards, which they promote through Safari.
WebAssist does sell an "online store" that is pretty much as you describe, though I don't know if it has any option to deal with CRM. -
How to Boot DW5 without loading Site Cache?
Is there a way to start/open Dreamweaver 5 without the site cache loading first? I realize it loads because i have the "enable cache" checked, but I'm in a weird situation where the cache takes six hours to load. I need a way to bring up DreamWeaver so i can disable the "eable cache."
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Im runnig Windows 7 professional, if it matters.
Thanksthe cache takes six hours to load
6 hours to load? Literally? How large is the site? What are the computer specs? All the latest updates? 32bit/64bit? Anything more?
I know this isn't a KB article directly related to your problem, but try #12, 4 and 13.

Have a problem with Lightroom 5.4. Since the program crashed yesterday it won't launch, it comes up with the message "Lightroom encountered an error when reading its preview cache and needs to quit". " Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem next time it launches". Except that it doesn't, I keep getting the same message and the program closes. Does anyone know what I can do to repair it? Can't back up, can't do anything.

Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit
A power outage caused my Lightroom 5.2 to shut down without closing. When I powered back up and opened lightroom it gives me an error "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from it preview cache and needs to quit" and then it says it will try to fix it the next time it opens. I have opened it 20 times and it is not fixing it. I removed the program completely and upgraded to 5.5 AND it is still giving me the same error. Is my catalog corrupt or something? I had it set to automatically load the most currently used catalog, so it is not allowing me to open or start a new catalog either. HELP!!!
Search the forum, this has been answered many times.

I'm unable to open up Lightroom 5, I get this message in a pop up box: "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit" Underneath that is "Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time when it launches." It hasn't, what should I do? Thanks Shawn (Irish Se7en) .
Can you try to rename (not delete!) the folder named "YOUR_CATALOG_NAME Previews.lrdata" and restart Lightroom?

"Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"
I keep receiving this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and the app won't open. It said LR would try and fix this error next time I opened it but the error remains. I tried uninstalled and installing the app and the error remains.
Any Ideas here? Is there another app that may be telling it where to look for the cache and it no longer there? I was using a ramdisk for a bit but ditched it. Not sure if that has something to do with it but it seems suspect.
Your thoughts?
