Regza 40" LCD TV emits high frequency noise

A few months ago I was lucky to win this television, a 106 cm Regza HD LCD.
I was very pleased because I could never have afforded it myself, and I am very happy with its performance generally.
What I find however is that it emits a high frequency noise that triggers tinitus to my hearing. (Tinitus is a high pitched squealing noise heard by people who have damaged their ears, sometimes called ringing in the ears).
I guess my hearing is already sensitive through listening to lots of live music over the years, but I think that this noise is excessive.
I figure that a monitor this size is using a fair amount of power and that maybe the power supply could be overworking itself.
The monitor emits this noise at a consistent level even before the sound from the tv show begins.
I am interested to find out what suggestion forum users may have for reducing this background noise?
The monitor is still under warranty as it is only 6 months old.
I wanted to be prepared to discuss it with Toshiba warranty people if forum users can suggest first of all what could be causing the noise, and secondly, possible ways of addressing the issue.
Thanks petekey4

Hello Pete
As you can see this is Toshiba computer forum and I don't believe you will find many people here who want to discuss about Toshiba LCD TV.
Anyway, if the TV is new and with valid warranty the best option for you is to contact service people and let them check your new TV.

  • Mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro emits high-frequency noise when engaged for sound

Recently I noticed that when the MacBook Pro activates the sound output device for built-in speakers, a high-pitched whine or noise begins, and does not stop until the card deactivates again.
The sound is not proportional to brightness, hard drive activity, CPU load, or anything else I've been able to try, except for sound output. When I plug in headphones it cuts out when the sound transfers to the headphones (it's on the same slight delay that the sound change is on). This MBP leads a relatively tame life, although it does travel sometimes. I can't figure out what would have started this sound, but I noticed it start within the last month, and I have confirmed that others hear it in the same quiet environment as I hear it in.

Give it two or three more weeks to get below 80% and stay there, then take it to an Apple Store for testing. As long as it's still above 80%, it's going to be considered "within spec," so make sure it's below 80% when you take it in.

  • High Frequency Noise from Headphones Out Jack

I have isolated the following issue to audio that is monitored via the headphones output on the back of my iMac:
I've been encountering a very high-pitched (and at times a cycling through high frequencies) noise when working with headphones to monitor audio. It's not the headphones and the problem is not limited to any single application. The noise is sometimes barely audible, and it comes and goes - but repeatedly and often. Sometimes the frequency of the noise is so high that I can imagine that those with poor or compromised hearing wouldn't even notice it. But the highest frequencies are still detectable - kind of like a faint ringing in the ears or a ringing television set that has its volume turned all the way down.
I've done everything I can imagine to troubleshoot the problem including asking a Mac genius, but nobody seems to have encountered this before. The noise can be triggered off (not masked) by any other incoming audio, but eventually it reappears. I will be editing a file, the noise will appear, and I can literally silence it for the moment by pressing a volume key or playing back a portion of audio.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there a fix? I do a lot of audio engineering and this problem is very distracting. I haven't purchased any outboard gear to monitor with yet, so I don't know if I will hear this noise through an external audio interface or not. Thankfully, this noise isn't being recorded to disk. It appears to be a little monster that is haunting only the playback.

OK, It is very easy to reproduce the problem, just follow this steps:
    (1) Insert any headphones to iMac.
    (2) Do NOT play any iTunes or any application with sound.
    (3) Now, set volume with the volume control keys on your keyboard, set it to the MAX.
    (4) You can keep pressing on the increase volume key and every time you hit the key you should hear a sound.
Just as when the sound stop, you will hear a high pitch. Keep repeat step 4 and wait a while, then occasionally you will hear a high pitch sound that will last to longer than 30 seconds. The high pitch will be even easier to reproduce if you alternate before decreasing volume and increase volume by 1 level, each time, wait and you will hear the high pitch too.
This high pitch sound can be heard on external speaker plug into the headphone jacks too.
BTW, I turned OFF WIFI, Bluetooth, removed all USB devices except keyboard and mouse, adjust monitor brightness, they have no effect on the high pitch, it is still there!
I am going to call the Apple Care tomorrow. Will keep you guys posted.

  • My aux port is making high pitch noises

I have had 2 4s in 2 weeks, both make a high frequency noise while plugged into the auxhillary port in my car.  When I try other devices, iphones, and other phones the noise is gone.  I have switched the aux cord out as well. My first device was tested at an Apple store where they found "no issues" but becuase my self and an associate at Verizon tested phones in my car port and found my phone to be the only one with the noise, they replaced.  The new phone started off just fine, then a day later it is making similiar noises.  Any words of wisdom?
    NAO

    No, not normal at all.
Do you have another charger you can try?
If not, I would recommend you make an appointment at an Apple store and bring your phone & its charger in to be examined and to determine if they need to be replaced.

  • RMBP - high frequency/power noise when doing file operations?

    Hi,
I noticed today that my new rMBP is emitting some strange high pitched noise, especially when doing heavy files operations like spotlight indexing or startup of the computer. It's louder and more prominent when I connect the AC adapter. It sounds like some power interference, a bit like some broken chargers do or Iphone 4s when transmitting 3G data.
It's not very loud but I can hear it clearly, when sitting in a silent room, even without closing my ear to the Macbook.
Has anybody noticed that or can advise something? Is that normal with those machines or some issue that has to be fixed? I really don't want to return it, as it is perfect otherwise...
    Thanks in advance for feedback.

here is the link to a sample of that noise. Please listen from 15 second:

  • Bandpass filter amplifies only noise at high frequencies and saturates the opamp output

I have designed a fourth order bandpass filter using the opamps TL081C. It is designed to operate at a center frequency of 40 kHz with a bandwidth of 2 kHz and a gain of -12.5 . I am using an SCB-68 board for data transmission and reception, one channel each for transmitter and receiver. I have grounded the adjacent channels to both the transmitter and the receiver in order to avoid crosstalk. However, at the output, I get a signal which looks like an amplitude modulated signal and is, most probably, noise. The amplitude of this signal is always around 9V, no matter what is the amplitude of the input (even if the input is 0V, the result is the same). If I scale down the whole BPF to operate at a center frequency of around 20 kHz, everything works fine. Therefore, I think the problem lies not in the design of the BPF but the use of the board at higher frequencies. Please reply as soon as possible.

You have done something wrong. You should read the manual for both the SCB-68 and your DAQ card once more. In such cases I often use MAX, and a battery as source. Then a DAQ input is not connected (floating) you will see measurements like you are doing now. Some high level voltage often modulated with mains frequency.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • ASA5505 emits a very high pitched noise

We just got a new 5505 1 week ago. Upon plugging it in it has a very high pitched noise. Similar to the sound you get when your ears are ringing or a cricket but its constant.
This drives us nuts. Any ideas what it can be since there's no fan or moving parts I can't figure it out.

sounds like the switch mode power supply isn't running fully.
does it do it if you just plug the PSU in but don't connect it to the ASA? or is it just under load of the ASA being connected?
either way id put in for a replacement as its not good

  • H67MA-E35 (B3) emitting high-pitched whine/chirp

I am getting a high-pitched whine or chip coming from the bottom left area of the CPU/Heatsink. It isn't the fan, as I have stopped the fan and it still makes the noise. I was also able to correlate the vcore voltage with the noise. The noise is only present while the vcore is below 1.000v. After throttling over 1.000v it goes away. I am using a i5-2500k. I am not overclocked anything and made very few changes to the Bios (just boot order and things like that).
Is this a problem with the socket, northbridge, or some other part on the board? Or is this a problem with the power supply not supplying the right kind of voltage? Or is the computer throttling too low? Like how a car doesn't run properly if idling too low?
    Thanks in advance,

No, this is a very common issue with chokes since a choke is very similar to a buzzer or speaker coil so if it's a bit loose, it can vibrate and emit high-pitched sounds.  It will not damage anything by itself so if you can get it to stop using settings that are otherwise safe then there is no need to worry about it.
    - D
I believe this is more common with iron chokes.  The ferrite chokes used on this motherboard are far less likely to buzz.  I did look at the board photos and it looks like the CPU PSU is standard FET transistors.  Hmmmm.

  • Strange high pitches noise

So, when I'm doing anything on the computer, I'm getting a really high frequency note, about an f# 8 (not sure about the octave). When i move the scroll bar on a window up or down, the noise goes away but comes back when the movement has stopped, it is really strange and kinda of annoying. Any help?

as a guess, it could be software bug, fan, hard drive or logic board sound controller.
maybe first try booting off OS X CD, see if it still makes noise.
if it does, most likely hardware problem, could be with mentioned components.
if it does not make nose off CD, could be software problem.

  • ITunes high pitch noise when in full screen on 27" iMac11,1

    Hello,
When running iTunes 10.5.1 in full screen mode on Lion 10.7.2, I get a faint, high pitch noise coming from my speakers.  If I run iTunes in a refular window, the noise does not manifest itself.  I can switch back and forth between one full screen app and iTunes, and the noise goes on and off and only manifests itself in iTunes.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I think I've found a workaround.  The problem doesn't only happen in iTunes, but also in the Finder's list view when in full screen.
The workaround is to use Shades, a small utility that creates a uniform black color mask over my screen.  All I had to do was set the brightness of my screen to 100%, run shades and lower the "brightness" using that utility to something comfortable for my eyes.
I think the issue comes from the high frequency flicker that the LED back light uses when the screen is being dimmed.  For some reason, the speakers pick up on it when in list view... Why only list view?  Beats me.
Anyway, the Shades prefpane can be downloaded from the following URL:
    http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades
    I hope this helps.
    All the best!

  • A215-7422 Audio Issue: High-pitched noise

About 2 weeks ago, the audio would suddenly stop.  After restarting the laptop, it would work fine again.  This morning, however, the audio completely died.  Restarting it only gave me a low frequency click upon start up.  Updating the drivers and the system only made the laptop give off a high-pitched noise through the speakers that persists through turning the volumn down/off and plugging in headphones, on top of which it continues not to play an audio.

A quick update if it helps: I went in a disabled "High Definition Audio Device" and the high pitched noise from the speakers stopped.  Not sure if that helps anyone.

  • Help Counting high frequency voltage spikes

Equipment:  NI USB-6229     (250 kS/sec Analog In., 16 bit DAC, 32 bit Counters and internal clocks <= 80 Mhz)
                          LabView 14
    Problem:
I have an experimental application where I need to count voltage spikes (integer #) caused by electrons hitting a sensor. These spikes can be as frequent as 500,000 Counts/sec. The spikes are not going to be the same voltage everytime, but they will be visible above the noise so I need to allow the user to select a Threshold Voltage that triggers a real count rather than noise spikes.
    Attempts:
To count such a high frequency, I deduce that I need to use a Counter Input to read fast enough, HOWEVER, I wasn't able to find a way to set a threshold voltage for a Counter Input because I believe they expect a TTL signal anyways, which I won't have. To set the threshold, I realize that Analog Input reads can be triggered at a selected level which is great but the Analog Input Sampling Rate is only 250kS/sec which won't catch every count in my project.
I have a program that uses the Count Edges channel and it is accurate within 3% of the expected # of counts. I was just testing it with a function generator and the program doesn't count unless the signal's voltage is above 2-3 V which won't work for my application. I will post what I have. Does anybody know of a way to trigger off only at selected Voltage levels using counters, or know of a way to filter through the noise to get real spikes?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply johnsold. I didn't think to use a comparator but that is good to know that I have that option. I was and still am hoping for some kind of trick to do this programmatically.   One other idea that I was playing with is offsetting two or three different Reads on the same signal to read the signal at different times. If this is a possibility, it may be able to double or triple my sample rate to 500k or 750kS / sec. Anyone else have any ideas on this solution?

  • High ISO noise handling

First, I must say thank you for DNG Profile Editor and generic Camera * profiles. You did really outstanding work!
The last part that we need to completely abandon Nikon Capture NX2 is better noise model for high ISO NEFs. Please see following samples how NX2 compares to ACR 5.2. For my eyes the NX2 render noise in very pleasing manner: fine and smooth texture. I didn't find way how to get similar results with ACR.
    ACR 5.2: http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6147/acr52ba7.jpg
    NX2: http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/2139/nx2fi6.jpg
Please see both images in 100% zoom.
Any chance to introduce NX2-like noise look into ACR?

    >Jeff, you can say the same for example about capture sharpening.
No, you can't...noise is supper high frequency texture, edges in an image may or may not be high, medium or low frequency but most images do not contain super high frequency along the lines of the noise. Hence the ability to sharpen the edge and not the noise (and the ability ti reduce the noise) So, ignoring the capture sharpening is leaving image detail on the table, ignoring noise is not.
Some people fall in love with the film grain look of digital camera noise. It ain't film grain. If you like film grain you CAN put it in an image after the fact but noise simply breaks up the continuity of the photographic image.
In your posted example, you had noise eduction off and sharpening at default. Both of which combine to reduce the image quality you can get from that image. Considering the ACR was at default, I think it did pretty darn good against NX.
Again, you really need to understand what you think you are seeing. Everything you see on a computer display is 3-4 times as large as reality at a 100% zoom. It's meaningless if the final result is a print.
