Reinstall Imovie HD

My Imovie will not close I have to force quit or it will just stay open forever. I was told to reinstall imovie off of main disc. How do I do this? Thanks

Hello, rainbowdog!
Welcome to the discussions.
What version of iMovie are you using? iMovie HD can refer to v 5 or 6. How did you get the original iMovie HD? Did it come preinstalled on your computer or did you purchase iLife 5 or 6?
If it came preinstalled, you should have some CD disks that came with your computer. One of them should be a Software Restore disk. You can insert that and opt for a custom install that will allow you to selectively reinstall just one app.
If you purchased iLife separately, you should have the disk, and can reinstall from that.

  • How to Reinstall iMovie

Every time a open iMovie, I get: Missing QuickTime Component: The QuickTime component necessary to view, edit, import, and export high-definition movies is not installed. It is included with the iMovie installer; please re-install.
How do I reinstall iMovie? When I put my install disc 1 ad select Install Bundled Software only, I couldn't select on iMovie, it's "skip" and grayed out.

Try downloading Quicktime from the Apple web site and installing that.

  • Can't reinstall iMovie '11

When I try to reinstall iMovie '11 using a custom install, iMovie (and Garage Band) is grayed out and iPhoto (and iLife Support) cannot be unclicked. Can anyone suggest what to do?

    Yes, that worked. Thanks.
And going back to the non-updated version seems to have solved the synchronization problem.

  • When I have made a movie in Imovie and I want to transfer it to Theater I get the following comments: Imovie is updating your Theater, You can't add or remove movies right now. Please try again in a moment. I have reinstalled,  Imovie to no avail

when I have made a movie in Imovie and I want to transfer it to Theater I get the following comments: "Imovie is updating your Theater, You can't add or remove movies right now. Please try again in a moment". I have uninstalled and reinstalled Imovie to no avail, cleaned with "Onyx" etc.

This simply means it is set to Automatically update and you should not have to do anything with it.
When you put new music in iTunes , it will automatically go on the iPod next time you connect it.
This is the default to make it very simple and very easy to use.
If you want to do it all yourself, iTunes prefs -> iPod.
Set to Manually manage songs and playlists.
You have to drag songs to the iPod and delete them from the iPod.

  • Can't reinstall iMovie revisited

I have the same problem as reported by Jim Mccarty, i.e. can't reinstall iMovie 4 with iTunes 4.7.1 installed. I have followed the instructions given to solve this problem: Log out, log in while holding down Shift key until Finder comes up. But when installing iMovie from the CD I receive the same message as before: "This installation cannot proceed because one of the following applications is running: GarageBand, etc." What am I missing here?--Mike

    "Error: No valid packages (-9997)"
That MIGHT be relevant since iMovie is delivered as a
"package". There are also "packages" in
    /Library/Receipts
You can try to open that folder and delete the iMovie
    receipts.
There are no iMovie receipts in /Library/Receipts. The only packages there are
    JavaSecurityUpdate4.pkg
    PantherJavaStartup.pkg
    SecUpd2005-002Pan.pkg
    SecUpd2005-005Pan.pkg
    SecUpd2005-006Pan.pkg
    SecUpd2005-007Pan.pkg
    SecUpd2005-008Pan.pkg
    SecurityUpdate2004-10-27Pan.pkg
Does the error message say anything about where (in
which folder) it doesn't find any valid packages?
No, it was just in reply to applying the "Verify Permissions" test to the HD.
    This may be of interest:
    http://www.macosx.com/content/faq.php/q684/Verify-Or-R
    epair-Disk-Permissions.html
Yes, interesting. Like the person posting the initial question "Verify-Or-Repair-Disk-Permissions," I also do not have BaseSystem.pkg in /Library/Receipts. And I did a clean install of OS 10.3.9 just 2 days ago!
The BaseSystem.pkg still resides in /Library/Receipts of the system I archived on an external drive prior to most recent reinstallation of the OS. Is it recommended that I copy that into the /Library/Receipts folder on my internal HD?--Mike

  • How to uninstall/reinstall iMovie

I just "upgraded" to iMovie 7.1.1 today and it the program all but totally collapsed. It will still open, slowly, but even though a project is active the Project library shows empty, the event and project windows are sometimes filled correctly and sometimes not, and regardless of that the whole thing has slowed to a jerky crawl.
In short iMovie is, well, I'd say it's toast, but I have Toast and at least it works.
I am in the middle of a project in iMovie '08 which I need to finish. I'd love nothing more than to roll back the clock and slap myself in the face just before I clicked on the OK button to update the software, but that isn't going to happen, so what can I do to un-do what I've done? I tried reinstalling the "bundled software" that came with my OEM OS X Tiger discs and that didn't work (I'm actually running 10.5.1). So my question is: How do I uninstall and then reinstall just iMovie?
    Thanks in advance.
    -John

Thanks for the reply, yes, I did try to repair the permissions, in fact I have run permission repair three times now and when I get home I'll see if it needs to be run again since it seems to come up with additional issues each time I run it, suggesting to me that there are layered permission problems. Whether that has anything to do with the current iMovie issue or not has yet to be proven.
In regard to your reply to Irb07 about Quicktime, I have not received the same error messages about QT, however the update that I installed contained updates to several packages, iMovie and Quicktime were two of them.
So far none of my permission repairing has made a difference in iMovie, it still doesn't work although it will partially load. I'll keep repairing and see what happens, but in case that doesn't work...
Is there a way to actually uninstall and then reinstall iMovie? iLife came packaged on the OEM Tiger disc set with my machine, but it does not appear to allow me to selectively install specific programs, nor does it allow me to remove any.
    Can this be done?
    Thanks.

  • Reinstalling iMovie 4

When trying to reinstall iMovie 4 from iLife CD the error message says the installation can not be made because Garage Band, iDVD, iMovie or iPhoto is running.
Another time when this happened I just erased the HD and started over.
Am in my 8th decade and am retired...so who cares? I have the time.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Like to say that it will be better the next time...but I know better.
    eMac PowerPC G4 (3.3)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   it's junk

This nonsense is infringing on happy hour. (I'll make up for it.) Are you the Sue in The Field Museum Of Natural History on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago?
You only get part of a star.
Suppose you should have the whole star...iMovie was reinstalled.
Was able to reinstall iMovie 4...but...when attempting to open iMovie was advised that the application was damaged.. or some such drivel.
Only iMovie was selected for reinstallation.
Have a self portrait to attach to these missives as soon as I can figure how to do it.
Thanks Sue, for your time and help.
Don't feel bad. When I get new bells and whistles for my Macs, I cut a hole in the bell and put the clapper in the whistle. Then when I correct that, I try to ring the whistle and blow the bell

  • Attempting to reinstall iMovie HD/iLife 05

My machine came with iLife 04 installed and an iLife 05 disk was included. I used iLife 05 until we bought my wife an iBook, which came with iLife 06 installed. I thought I might as well use the install disk on my iMac to get iLife 06 installed on it. It hasn't worked as well as 05 did and some features aren't available on 10.3.9. So, intending to reinstall iLife 05 from the disk, I dragged iMovie 06 to the trash can (along with iDVD 06). After iMovie didn't reinstall, I went into Customize and saw that iMovie HD was unchecked, grayed out, and it showed "disabled" to the right. I fear I made a big mistake in deleting iMovie 06 (and emptying the trash). Can you help?

    Hello Graig,
    try the following:
open a Finder window and type "iMovie" in the search tab. your mac should find a couple of leftovers, e.g. com.apple.iMovie.plist and iMovie.pkg - these are preferences and receipts. there will probably be other stuff from application support.
try trashing them as well, repair permissions with Disc Utility and reboot, then see if you can reinstall iMovie 5 (the same should work for iDVD).
    hope this helps

  • How do you reinstall iMovie when it came pre-installed with the Mac?

    Hi,
I was wondering how you reinstall imovie 11 (i think) when the software came pre-installed on the Mac. I purchased my Mac in August 2011 it is the iMac (Mid 2011 model) I am running Lion. No discs came with the Mac for the option to reinstall.
The reason i wish to reinstall it is because it keeps crashing on startup. I load the application and it opens but then after a few moments of loading up the rainbow wheel appears and never goes away, the app then is none responsive and I have to force quite the app.
    Any help would be appriciated
    Cheers

    Hi Ralph,
I live in the UK and i have called apple support but it is all automated and as i don't have apple care they said that i would need to open an incident which would cost £35. iMovie on the Mac App store is only £10.50!
do you know of another way of contacting them for an issue like this? is there anyone i can speak to on an online chat?

  • Reinstall Imovie Ipad 2

I have an Ipad 2 with Imovie. The program has somehow lost the "edit" button found in the upper left of the display of videos taken. I assume I must reinstall Imovie. How do I get and reinstall to avoid losing all previous video shot on the the I-pad. I do have the IPad synced to my macbook.
    Thanks for any help.

Do a backup, so if the video disappears you can get it back. But I think it should stay there.

  • Reinstalling iMovie

Hi. My iMovie 6.0.3 is acting squirrely and I'm wondering about whether I just need to reinstall it. I actually own on disc iMovie '05 and somehow along the line in the process of doing my updates somehow I ended up with iMovie '06 ver 6.0.3. If I reinstall iMovie 05 from my discs, can I just dowmload the upgrades to make it 6.0.3? I can't seem to find the exact 05 to 06 download on the Apple web site. Thanks for your advice!
    Christine

Wow. I'm pretty freaked out since the only discs I have are for iLife 05 and I keep all my discs together. I tend not to lose things like that, but I've turned my house upside down just in case and I just don't have it... I somehow remember being surprised way back to find that I had an 06 version but I just accepted it (who would argue with Apple?) Very strange.
So I happened to find the download of 6.0.4 from the web site that says I have to own and install iMovie 08. I know I can own 2 versions... but I saw some people unhappy with the dual installations on the discussion boards. I checked out iMovie 08 in the store and I did NOT like it -- they took away a lot of great features like the timeline.I'm still running 10.4.11 -- is there anything special I need to know?
I REALLY appreciate your help and quick answer since, of course, we are having a problem with this right when my daughter has a major project due for a competition!
Thanks so much! (and I'll keep looking for those discs...)

  • Hard Drive Crashed-Reinstalled iMov-can't move Events/Projects

I had to put new Hard drives into my Mac Pro. I did manage to salvage my Projects and Events by copying them temporarily to an external drive. I have since copied them on to a partition of one of the new internal drives.
I then had to reinstall iMovie from my iLife disc.
Now, when I open this new iMovie, I see all the internal and external drives and volumes, but none of my Events or Projects show up. Each drive has a downward triangle and nothing showing under it.
I read instructions and posts and as best I can understand, I am supposed to drag a Project icon, holding down command or copy, onto the icon of the drive I want it on in the Project Library list.
But as soon as I get my curser carrying the Project into the Project Library window, all the drives shift out of reach and it becomes the empty dark grey Project Library panel.
I tried the same with Events but there, the drives don't move but what I am trying to drag and rop does not turn into a plus sign and if I let go it does nothing.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Help? Thanks

Appleman-that was fantastic. Thank you. Copied those folders over to new drive at top level, opened iMovie and viola!
People like you make learning fun.

  • How to reinstall iMovie 08

    Hello everybody
I have a black macbook, that came with Tiger and naturally imovie 08 pre-installed. I have now bought and installed Leopard and upgraded to 10.5.1
Unfortunately iMovie is not working, and i have tried may suggestions from other posts with no success. I would like to try and uninstall iMovie 08 and reinstall it. Any tips for how to properly uninstall iMovie and hopefully all the video files with it would be great. I have everything backed up so i can reload them at a later time.
    Thanks for the help

Chiming in here... not just iMovie, but all of my jingles for iLife did not come in after reinstalling after a new leopard install...
Other things too, little annoyances... Garageband had no software music clips at all, I had to go back and choose them and install them separately. But while doing that I noticed that iLife and the extras choices in options were greyed out and I could not add them. In iMovie I can not see any of the hovering windows for editing. No sound editing window, no color correction window, etc.
I have to teach this on Monday (about 6 days) and need it to work on my machine to use it!

  • Is it possible to reinstall iMovie using the Mac AppStore?

Due to a problem, I had to have my HDD replaced. I reinstalled the system but now, I can't update iMovie. Can I delete it and reinstall it via the MAS?

    Hi Jon,
Micro-stepping is a property of the motor amplifier (motor drive) rather than the controller. It sounds like you are using a 3rd party drive, since you have a UMI. You want to check with your motor amplifier documentation to see if it's supported. Usually, there will be dip-switches on the drive that sets the microstep factor.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
